Coaches rely on the information detected in the performance environment to regulate the quantity and quality of the decisions made during matches. This study used an expert-novice paradigm to describe coaches' gaze behavior in offensive and defensive game moments of futsal. Twenty coaches (ten expert and ten novices) participated in the study. The experimental conditions contrasted their gaze behavior when watching 71 video clips of the game, both when the team was attacking and when the team was defending. The dependent variables for gaze behaviour were organized in game moments and described using biplots from multiple correspondence analysis. Overall, the results revealed a relationship between the coaches' level of expertise and the visual information searched at each futsal game moment. Expert coaches focused more on the information related to the players without the ball and the space, while novice coaches tended to focus their attention in the ball and in the attacker with the ball. It seemed clear that the process of visual exploration is specific for each game moment and that the level of coaches' expertise shapes the visual information searched. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to understand the level of agreement between different methods of observation and assessment of the performance of football referees carried out by Referee Match Observers: (i) live; (ii) live + video and (iii) single video. A total of 34 Referee Match Observers from the 1st category of the Portuguese Football Association (FA) participated in the study. The evaluation followed the official assessment guidelines according to three criteria: (a) general evaluation; (b) game difficulty and general performance; and (c) disciplinary actions and game management. Results revealed different levels of agreement in the judgement and evaluation of the referee's performance between live, live + video and video only. Results suggest that the combination of live and video analysis allow RMOs to be more perceptually attuned to the events that convey relevant information to better support the assessment of referee's performance. This work offers evidence for the redesign of official observation procedures and policies of football governing bodies that are in charge in charge of referee's match evaluations. The aim of this study was to identify the importance and meaning of goals using the goalkeeper as an outfield player in elite futsal according to critical and situational variables. The sample consisted of 11,446 actions corresponding to 1,325 matches from the 1st division Spanish Futsal League during the seasons from 2010 to 2015. Multinomial logistic regression and classification tree multivariate models were used to identify the best predictor variables related to the likelihood of scoring goals, receiving goals, or no goals. Results from Multinomial logistic regression emphasised goals scored in balanced matches and playing with the goalkeeper as an outfield player before the last eight minutes. When the teams were drawing or losing, finished with goals received or without goals. The classification tree results identified a greater likelihood of scoring goals when the teams were winning, in balanced matches, and within the last eight minutes. Conversely, a greater likelihood of suffering goals was observed using the goalkeeper as an outfield player when the teams were losing, in unbalanced matches and in the last eight minutes. The identified trends will allow futsal coaches to recognise the most suitable situations for achieving efficacy when using the goalkeeper as an outfield player strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main aims of the present study were: a) to evaluate speed and technical skills, and b) to examine the relationship between those measures. Thirty-seven junior soccer players under 19 years of age from three amateur soccer teams were evaluated using vertical and horizontal jump tests, 30m sprint speed test, change of direction test, dribble test and the kicking speed test.
