This paper is focusing on the improvement of the accuracy of WEDM process for machining the precision-die angular stainless-steel parts. The controllable parameters are studied and analyzed by using Response Surface Method technique with respect to the responses of dimensional accuracy and surface quality. Then, these models are optimized by using the multi-objective optimization technique to realize optimal processing parameters. These optimal controllable parameters are ready for WEDM operating technicians’ use.

Two Point Incremental Forming technology (TPIF) is one forming method of incremental sheet forming technology (ISF) which is an innovation sheet forming process with potential advantages such as simplicity, less-time consumption, and high flexibility. This technology using a hemispherical-end tool under CNC movement deforms a metal sheet which is fixed on simple frame. The sheet metal clamped between movable plate and clamp plate, under the metal sheet has a support die which is fixed on bottom plate. The lower plate is firmly positioned on the CNC machine table in while upper plate (included sheet material, movable plate and clamp plate) is able to move easily up and down along guide bars. The sheet material is plastically deformed layer by layer until final-shape product by CNC tool path. This technology is very suit for the rapid prototyping process and the low batch production. In this research, formability of the TPIF process due to operating parameters was investigated with aluminum sheet at room temperature. Four operating parameters such as depth step, feed rate, tool diameter, and spindle speed, was considered their effects on the formability of TPIF process through DOE strategy. The forming results showed that TPIF process for metal sheet material at room temperature has potential applicability in the metal sheet-product manufacturing.

Gas-liquid cylindrical cyclone (GLCC) separator is widely used in the petroleum industry with potential field applications. Its performance is strongly influenced by the inlet configuration. The 27° optimal inclined inlet angle has been experimentally observed for GLCC with the same diameter of body and inlet. For other GLCCs, the effect of inlet angle on flow pattern and their performances have not been investigated. The main target of the current study is to deeply understand the changes of flow pattern with respect to different inclined angles and flow conditions. Twelve GLCCs with different inclined angles were numerically investigated by using the Reynold stress turbulence model to predict the flow pattern with GLCC. The distribution of radial, axial, and tangential velocity profiles and their maximum magnitudes with respect to the change of inlet angle were carefully considered in this study. This article presents the use of an electrically assisted manufacturing method in the incremental sheet forming process to improve formability, surface quality, and geometric accuracy. This system utilizes a direct current source connected directly to a metal sheet through two electrodes at opposite edges to conduct heat based on Joule’s effect. The approach produces a homogeneous heating zone in the whole metal sheet with very short ramping time. In this work, the heating system is designed to serve the investigation of formability, geometric accuracy, and surface roughness of the hot incremental forming technology. Three main results expected from this system are the influence of the processing parameters on the formability, the ability to improve accuracy and formability, and the reduction or elimination of springback effects in the deformation of high-strength aluminum alloy sheets (AA5055) and magnesium alloy sheets (AZ31).
