RESUMO Os testes de leitura brasileiros se propõem a avaliar as dificuldades da leitura, mas não subtipos de dislexia. No presente trabalho, foram investigados os estímulos de seis testes de leitura brasileiros comercializados (TDE, TDE II, ANELE 1, ANELE 4, PROLEC, PROADE) com vistas a identificar estímulos sensíveis para a identificação de sete subtipos de dislexia (Identidade de letra, posição de letra, negligência, visual, superfície, vogal, profunda). Foram encontrados estímulos potenciais para esses subtipos, desde que seja feita a devida análise dos erros. Apesar desses estímulos sensíveis, nos manuais dos testes, não há proposta de análise de erros específica para subtipos de dislexia. Para um diagnóstico preciso, é necessário o desenvolvimento de testes mais sensíveis para os subtipos tratados.

Deciphering breast cancer treatment resistance remains hindered by the lack of models that can successfully capture the four-dimensional dynamics of the tumor microenvironment. Here, we show that microextrusion bioprinting can reproducibly generate distinct cancer and stromal compartments integrating cells relevant to human pathology. Our findings unveil the functional maturation of this millimeter-sized model, showcasing the development of a hypoxic cancer core and an increased surface proliferation. Maturation was also driven by the presence of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) that induced elevated microvascular-like structures complexity. Such modulation was concomitant to extracellular matrix remodeling, with high levels of collagen and matricellular proteins deposition by CAF, simultaneously increasing tumor stiffness and recapitulating breast cancer fibrotic development. Importantly, our bioprinted model faithfully reproduced response to treatment, further modulated by CAF. Notably, CAF played a protective role for cancer cells against radiotherapy, facilitating increased paracrine communications. This model holds promise as a platform to decipher interactions within the microenvironment and evaluate stroma-targeted drugs in a context relevant to human pathology.

Medulloblastoma, a malignant pediatric brain tumor, has a poor prognosis upon relapse, highlighting a critical clinical need. Our previous research linked medulloblastoma cell radioresistance to integrin-αvβ3 expression. β3-depleted (β3_KO) medulloblastoma cells exhibit lipid hydroxyperoxide accumulation after radiotherapy, indicating ferroptosis, a regulated cell death induced by ROS and inhibited by antioxidants such as cysteine, glutathione (GSH), and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPx4). However, the link between αvβ3 expression, ferroptosis inhibition, and sensitivity to radiotherapy remains unclear. We showed that irradiated β3_KO medulloblastoma cells primarily die by ferroptosis, with β3-subunit expression correlating with radiotherapy sensitivity and anti-ferroptotic protein levels. Our findings suggest that integrin-αvβ3 signaling boosts oxidative stress resilience via mTORC1. Thus, targeting integrin-αvβ3 could enhance radiotherapy efficacy in medulloblastoma by inducing ferroptotic cell death.

Objetivo: Verifi car a associação entre a religiosidade e o sentimento de solidão em idosos viúvos. Métodos: Participaram 200 idosos viúvos com idade ≥ 60 anos que frequentam o ambulatório do Instituto de Geriatria e Gerontologia da PUC-RS. Os instrumentos utilizados foram a escala de solidão da Ucla e a Escala de Frequência de Práticas Religiosas e a Escala de Religiosidade Intrínseca/Extrínseca. Resultados: Os resultados obtidos demonstraram um alto nível de solidão da amostra, tendo uma média de 48,4%. Para a estimativa da escala da solidão, 36,7% das variações ocorridas podem ser explicadas pela renda, em que quanto maior a renda maior o nível de solidão. Ainda foi encontrada signifi cância na correlação entre solidão e sexo, mostrando que viúvos demonstram maior satisfação social do que viúvas. A maior parte dos idosos apresentou tendência à religiosidade intrínseca (média = 25,5%). Outra relação signifi cativa encontrada foi entre a religiosidade e a faixa etária, sendo que quanto mais idoso, maior a tendência para a prática da religiosidade intrínseca. Foi encontrada diferença signifi cativa na relação entre a escala de solidão e a escala de religiosidade social. Conclusão: De modo geral, verifi cou-se que a renda é um fator preditivo para o sentimento de solidão e a faixa etária é um fator preditivo para a prática da religiosidade intrínseca entre idosos viúvos. Além disso, identifi cou-se que a prática da religiosidade social pode diminuir o sentimento de solidão de idosos viúvos.

The Pyrenean Platform for Observation of the Atmosphere (P2OA) is a coupled plain–mountain instrumented platform in southwestern France. It is composed of two physical sites: the “Pic du Midi” mountaintop observatory (2877 m a.s.l.) and the “Centre de Recherches Atmosphériques” (600 m a.s.l). Both sites are complementarily instrumented for the monitoring of climate-relevant variables and the study of meteorological processes in a mountainous region. The scientific topics covered by P2OA include surface–atmosphere interactions in heterogeneous landscapes and complex terrain, the physics and chemistry of atmospheric trace species at a large scale, the influence of local- and regional-scale emissions and transport on the atmospheric composition, and transient luminous events above thunderstorms. With a large number of instruments and a high hosting capacity, P2OA contributes to atmospheric sciences through (i) building long-term series of atmospheric observations, (ii) hosting experimental field campaigns and instrumental tests, and (iii) educational training in atmospheric observation techniques. In this context, P2OA is part of the French component of the Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure (ACTRIS-Fr) and also contributes to the Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) research infrastructure and to several European or international networks. Here, we present the complete instrumentation of P2OA and the associated datasets, give a meteorological characterization of the platform, and illustrate the potential of P2OA and its dataset with past or ongoing studies and projects.

Abstract Objective: The average age of patients with vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) has been reported to have declined. Human papilloma virus (HPV)-related lesions have been shown to be associated with the expression of the immunohistochemical (IHC) marker p16. Non-HPV-related tumors have been characterized by p53 abnormal expression and PDL1 expression. We aimed to evaluate the correlation between these markers and vulvar SCC and to relate it to the clinical and pathological characteristics. Methods: Histopathologic assessments and IHC analyses of p16, p53, and PDL1 were performed in 41 samples of vulvar SCC collected between 2016 and 2021. The data were correlated with clinical and pathological characteristics of the patients. Results: The mean age of the patients was 72.1 years. Positive p16 and PDL1 staining was detected in 24.4% and 17.1% of the samples, respectively. p53 expression was negative in 19.5% of the samples, whereas it was overexpressed in 24.4%. p16-positive tumors showed a smaller depth of invasion (DOI) (p = 0.014), while tumors with p53 abnormal expression showed greater DOI (p = 0.041). PDL1 expression was correlated with increased number of inflammatory cells (p = 0.055). In addition, lesions with lymphovascular space invasion were p16-negative. Conclusion: In our sample, regarding to the SCC incidence the patients’ mean age did not change. The expression of p16 was inversely correlated with p53 results. Tumors with p53 abnormal expression and absence of p16 showed a greater DOI. Our data suggest an association between PDL1 expression and increased inflammatory infiltrates in vulvar SCC.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptomatology has historically been considered a psychic ailment that is part of a mental disorder. However, it has often been proposed that it could play an adaptive role, in that it would prevent individuals from being exposed to content or situations that they would not be prepared to process. Within the literature on emotional regulation (ER), PTSD symptomatology has commonly been linked to the concept of emotional dysregulation (ED). However, some definitions open the possibility that traumatic symptomatology could be considered ER, from which delicate conclusions would follow. To resolve this dilemma, we turn to interdisciplinary dialogue, specifically with the aid of Thomistic anthropology, whose concepts allow us to understand precisely the relationship between voluntary and involuntary processes and the close relationship between the concepts of reason and regulation. Even though part of the PTSD symptomatology involves psychic mechanisms aimed at modifying emotional states, it is concluded that it is necessary to continue conceptualizing it as ED. The theoretical and practical implications of this discussion are reviewed.

Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is a malignant primary brain tumor. Drop metastasis is an intradural extramedullary spinal lesion that originates from an intracranial site. It is rare to have the incidence of drop metastases in a patient diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme. We present and discuss a case report on a 35-year-old patient treated for GBM who presented drop metastases after the surgical procedure.

Abstract Background Depression, anxiety, and insomnia are prevalent in older people and are associated with increased risk of mortality, dependency, falls and reduced quality of life. Prior to or whilst seeking treatment, older people often manage these symptoms or conditions using products purchased over the counter (OTC), such as medication or herbal products. This review aims to map the evidence available for OTC medications, herbal medicines and dietary supplements for depression, anxiety and insomnia in older adults. Methodology We carried out a scoping review, including searches of five databases to identify relevant randomised controlled trials (inception-Dec 2022). We took an inclusive approach to products to represent the wide range that may be available online. Trials were summarised according to condition and product. Results We included 47 trials and 10 ongoing trial protocols. Most targeted insomnia (n = 25), followed by depression (n = 20), and mixed conditions (n = 2). None evaluated products targeted at anxiety alone. Where reported, most products appeared to be safe for use, but studies rarely included people with multiple comorbidities or taking concomitant medication. Some types of melatonin for insomnia (n = 19) and omega-3 fatty acids for depression (n = 7) had more substantive evidence compared to the other products. Conclusion There is a substantial gap in evidence for OTC products for anxiety in older people. This should be addressed in future trials. Research should also focus on products that are widely used, and these need to be tested in older populations that are similar to those who would use them in practice.

Introducción: en el contexto de la implementación de la herramienta de gestión y financiamiento de Grupos Relacionados a Diagnóstico (GRD) en Chile y el aumento de las cirugías por artrosis en Chile; el objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la estancia hospitalaria en pacientes con prótesis de cadera y rodilla en Chile entre el 2019 y 2021 y sus factores asociados. Metodología: se realizó un estudio observacional retrospectivo con datos obtenidos de la base de datos del Grupo Relacionado de Diagnóstico (GRD) de FONASA. Se seleccionaron pacientes con egresos con procedimiento quirúrgico nomenclatura CIE-9 de prótesis y se consideró como criterio de exclusión diagnóstico principal con codificado con nomenclatura CIE-10 relacionada a fracturas. Se recogió información sobre el año de la cirugía, edad, sexo y procedimiento. Se describieron los GRD encontrados y la mediana de estancia para cada uno. Resultados: durante el periodo hubo 7.148 egresos hospitalarios con procedimiento de prótesis de cadera y 4.090 de rodilla. El promedio de edad fue de 66,2 ± 11,9 años y el 62% de las pacientes son de sexo femenino. Introdução Um estrito controle da glicemia nos pacientes com Diabetes Mellitus Tipo 1(DM1) demonstra capacidade de prevenir episódios de hipoglicemia e então retardar o início das complicações diabéticas macrovasculares e microvasculares. O Freestyle® Libre é um sistema de monitoramento de glicose que utiliza um sensor aderido ao braço do indivíduo que faz leituras intermitentes da glicose no líquido intersticial, deste modo, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar sua segurança e eficácia em pacientes diabéticos tipo 01 e identificar qual seria o nicho de pacientes com DM1 que mais se beneficiaria com a tecnologia. Métodos A busca de evidências foi realizada nas bases de dados Pubmed/ Medline, Embase e BVS utilizando o acrônimo PICOS, sendo a população, indivíduos com diabetes mellitus tipo 1, a intervenção o Freestyle libre comparado com o automonitoramento da glicose através de glicemia capilar convencional. Os desfechos primários foram a redução de episódios de hipoglicemia e melhor tempo no alvo e os desfechos secundários, a hemoglobina glicada (HbA1c) e internação por complicações da diabetes (incluindo hipoglicemia ou cetoacidose diabética). Já para segurança analisou-se os eventos adversos. O único desenho de estudo elegível foi ensaio clínico randomizado. Os títulos incluídos foram submetidos a ferramenta de viés da Cochrane, RoB2. Já a certeza da evidência para o desfecho principal foi avaliada pela ferramenta GRADE. Resultados 172 artigos foram recuperados e apenas 6 incluídos. Os resultados foram extraídos de acordo com a população e desfecho: a. Para a população de crianças, adolescentes e adultos com diabetes mellitus tipo 1 – DM1 foi incluído um estudo, Zang et. al., 2021 que demonstrou redução da hemoglobina glicada intra grupo comparando a semana 24 com a semana 48. Entretanto, o estudo apresentou alto risco de viés global para o desfecho principal (hemoglobina glicada) e não publicou a diferença entre o grupo intervenção e o grupo controle e sim o resultado dentro de cada grupo. b. Para a população de adolescentes e jovens com DM1 o estudo de Boucher et. al., 2020 apontou que não houve entre os grupos uma diferença significativa de HbA1c, qualidade de vida aos 6 meses, e nem nos eventos adversos. c. Para a população de adultos com diabetes mellitus tipo 1 incluiu-se os estudos de Bolinder et. al., 2016; Oskarsson et. al., 2018 e Ichia, 2023, todos demonstraram que a intervenção reduziu o tempo de hipoglicemia e que não houve diferenças em relação aos eventos adversos, inclusive os graves. Oskarsson et. al., 2018 e Ichia, 2023 apontaram uma elevação no tempo no intervalo alvo em horas em que a glicemia se mantém entre 70–180 mg/dL e Bolinder et. al., 2016 e Oskarsson et. al., 2018 não encontraram diferenças em relação a HbA1. A Lei 13.415/2017 tornou obrigatório, a partir do 6º ano do Ensino Fundamental, o ensino de inglês, relegando outras línguas estrangeiras, como o espanhol, ao status de optativas. Isso gerou a crescente exclusão do espanhol tanto nas escolas públicas quanto nas privadas. Este estudo visa a analisar a presença do espanhol nos currículos do Ensino Médio Integrado (EMI) do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia Sul-rio-grandense (IFSul). O IFSul oferta educação profissional e tecnológica em diferentes níveis e modalidades de ensino da educação básica à superior, e possui catorze campi, recebendo reconhecimento, assim como outros Institutos Federais (IFs), por sua inovação e autonomia pedagógica. Para conhecer a realidade de oferta de línguas estrangeiras dos campi do IFSul, foi realizada uma pesquisa documental, através de coleta dos dados a partir dos registros institucionais disponíveis publicamente na intranet de cada campus. Assim, foi feita a análise dos currículos de cada campus dos cursos de EMI, da legislação vigente quanto à autonomia curricular dos IFs e das leis atuais que regulamentam a oferta de línguas estrangeiras na educação básica. Os resultados evidenciam que, embora o espanhol seja escolhido pelos estudantes, como no Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio como alternativa ao inglês, esse componente curricular é oferecido em apenas seis campi do IFSul, excluído até mesmo em cidades de fronteira com países falantes de espanhol. A exclusão da língua espanhola do currículo limita oportunidades dos estudantes da educação básica de ampliarem seus repertórios de participação em outras línguas e de ingressarem na universidade no idioma de sua preferência. Este trabalho é relevante, pois apresenta um panorama da oferta de línguas estrangeiras na rede de ensino do IFSul e pode contribuir para debates sobre o tema em instâncias deliberativas, como em reuniões do Conselho Superior.

Debates concerning the reliability and validity of operationalized criteria and diagnostic tools have surrounded the issue of schizophrenia diagnosis and clinical decision-making related to the disorder. The notion of the praecox feeling (PF) has played a prominent role in the discussions as an example of the possibility of a rapid and potentially valid diagnosis based solely on “intuition” or a peculiar emotional experience or impression arising in a physician during an interaction with a patient with schizophrenia. In this paper, we argue that PF is enabled by the (phenomenologically understood) intercorporeal dimension of the clinical encounter. Intercorporeality in this sense denotes intertwinement between embodied expressions that may lead to feelings of connection but also, as in the case of PF, of disconnection and strangeness—the experience of alienness. Following Waldenfels, alienness ranges from the average social encounter to more extreme and peculiar forms—such as PF. To prove our point, we analyze the metaphors used by physicians in various cultural contexts (the United States, the United Kingdom, and Poland) to express the apparently ineffable experience of the PF. We focus on two dominant metaphors of distance: the first expressing spatial distance by referring to an “object in-between” the physician and the patient and the second expressing mental distance by referring to the “other-worldliness” of the patient. We interpret the object in-between metaphors as reflecting the sense of separateness and the other-worldliness metaphors as reflecting the sense of strangeness, with both meanings unified in the notion of “close remoteness.” Such unsettling but speculation-provoking feeling of close remoteness may be rendered by the concept of “the eerie” (Mark Fisher). We conclude that metaphor and phenomenological analysis facilitate an understanding of the experiential profile of PF in the clinical encounter, outlining relevant clinical implications.

The storage mechanisms of solid-solid supercapacitors based on graphene oxide (rGO/GO/rGO) were explored by Zhang Q et al. (Zhang et al., 2014) [1], using Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to elucidate the unusual capacitive behavior of GO sandwich films. Their study revealed alternating charged layers without diffusion zones. Analysis of complex impedance (Z*) data, ranging from 10−3 to 3.106 Hz, was conducted using an equivalent circuit, though this was limited to Nyquist plot data.To further investigate charge storage mechanisms, the current study delved deeper into complex impedance (Z*) and conductivity (σ*). A theoretical approach identified relaxation processes in the imaginary parts of (Z″) and (σ'') across frequencies. Extrapolation up to 3.10^9 Hz and deconvolution confirmed three distinct relaxation processes in Z* and σ*, similar to Cole-Cole relaxation, which describes Maxwell-Wagner-Sillars (MWS) relaxation. This reflects local electrical interactions between active sites on molecular chains and counterions, creating induced dipolar moments or diffusion processes.The identified relaxations at low, medium, and high frequencies correspond well with DFT results, attributed to specific regions: graphene oxide (GO), the (rGO/GO) interface, and reduced graphene (rGO). Key parameters extracted from each relaxation, such as relaxation time, ionic strength, and conductivity values at different frequencies, showed good correlation. This approach, based on deep conductivity (σ*) analysis, effectively highlighted the charge conduction and storage mechanisms in rGO/GO/rGO supercapacitor films.

IntroductionThe development of reading and complex executive functions is fundamental for achieving social, academic, and professional success. So far, there is no single neuropsychological instrument that comprehensively assesses the domains of inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, working memory, and reading comprehension. To assess executive functions related to reading, the “Assessment of Reading and Executive Functions” (AREF) was developed. In this study, we show initial evidence of validity and reliability for four subtests - Graphophonological-Semantic Flexibility, Inhibitory Control, Flexibility, and Working Memory.MethodsA total of 93 students from 4th to 9th grade, aged 8-14, in public (n = 61) and private (n = 32) schools were evaluated. Tasks from the AREF instrument, as well as measures of reading comprehension, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, working memory, and intelligence, were administered. Correlations between AREF scores and the other measures were performed to assess external construct validity. Performance differences between school groups on AREF subtests were analyzed using ANOVA, t-test, and Mann-Whitney tests, and the internal consistency of the instrument’s tasks was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient.ResultsThe scores of the AREF subtests demonstrated significant positive correlations with reading measures (ranging from 0.339 to 0.367) and executive functions (ranging from 0.209 to 0.396). Significant differences were found in the performance of some AREF tasks when comparing individuals from public and private schools, as well as between 4th and 5th graders compared to students in higher grades. The internal consistency of the tasks was low for Graphophonological-Semantic Flexibility (Cronbach’s α = 0.566), moderate for Inhibitory Control and Flexibility (Cronbach’s α = 0.768), and high for Working Memory (Cronbach’s α = 0.881).DiscussionThe results provide initial evidence of construct validity and reliability for the AREF subtests. It is expected that this new neuropsychological test will contribute to the assessment of reading skills and executive functions, assisting in guiding clinical and educational interventions for individuals with and without neurodevelopmental disorders.

A região Centro-Oeste possui diversas espécies de frutas nativas consideradas boas fontes nutricionais e potentes antioxidantes, fato que tem despertado interesse da comunidade científica. Visando a valorização de espécies encontradas no Pantanal mato-grossense e considerando a escassez de estudos relacionados ao potencial antioxidante do mesocarpo de Attalea phalerata Mart. ex Spreng (Arecaceae), este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar a composição proximal do mesocarpo de A. phalerata e o efeito antioxidante dos frutos colhidos no campus da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso. Para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho foram feitas análises de amostras do mesocarpo (polpa) da A. phalerata, coletada no campus de Cuiabá, localizado no Estado de Mato Grosso, Brasil. Após a despolpa, foram analisados os teores de umidade, lipídeos, proteínas e cinzas. A concentração de fenólicos totais foi determinada por método espectrofotométrico e a avaliação do potencial antioxidante foi determinada pelo método de redução do ferro. A composição da polpa de A.phalerata analisada neste estudo é composta majoritariamente por água (45,56%), seguido de carboidratos (27,18%) e lipídeos (19,39%). O mesocarpo apresentou teores de fenólicos totais de 77,15 ± 7,17 mg EAG/ 100g de amostra e 112,04 ± 1,05 µM de sulfato ferroso/ 100g de amostra. Em síntese, os mesocarpos de A. phalerata colhidas no campus da UFMT possuem elevados teores de carboidratos, água e lipídeos e menores teores de cinzas e proteínas. Além disso, o mesocarpo apresentou elevada capacidade antioxidante apesar da concentração obtida de compostos fenólicos serem intermediários aos valores encontrados na literatura.

Background and aimPost-COVID-19 condition (PCC) encompasses long-lasting symptoms in individuals with COVID-19 and is estimated to affect between 31–67% of patients, with women being more commonly affected. We report the detection of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) in Corsica, France. We identified CCHFV African genotype I in ticks collected from cattle at 2 different sites in southeastern and central-western Corsica, indicating an established CCHFV circulation. Healthcare professionals and at-risk groups should be alerted to CCHFV circulation in Corsica.

Overload of fluoride ions in water is observed in several regions of southern Tunisia, mainly the regions close to the mining basin of Gafsa: Metlaoui, Omlarayes and Redayef. This study concerns fluoride removal from Metlaoui's tap water by electrocoagulation (EC) using aluminum electrodes in a batch reactor. This water contains 3.5 mg·L−1 of fluoride, the highest concentration observed in these basins. The effect of the operating conditions of EC treatment on tap water defluoridation was analyzed, namely, current density, temperature and interelectrode distance. Hydroxide aluminum flocs, formed with different durations of EC, were used as sorbents in fluorinated deionized water ([F−] = 3.5 mg·L−1) and Metlaoui's tap water. Flocs formed after 30 min of EC, produced by dissolving (79 ± 1) mg·L−1 of aluminum and adjusted at pH = 6.5, allowed the adsorption of (98 ± 1)% of fluoride ions from deionized fluorinated water. Flocs adjusted at different pH, from 5 to 9, were used as sorbents in fluorinated deionized water and Metlaoui's tap water. Acidic and neutral flocs allowed the best yields of fluoride adsorption. Contrary to the literature, this work highlighted the absence of ion exchange of hydroxide anion by fluoride anion in water, highlighting a mechanism of physical adsorption on aluminum hydroxide flocs. HIGHLIGHTS Electrocoagulation (EC) was studied for the defluoridation of Tunisian groundwater.; Defluoridation was also evaluated through adsorption onto Al(OH)3 flocs generated by EC.; Fluorides in synthetic water were predominantly removed through physical adsorption.; In Tunisian groundwater, the adsorption of F− competed with the adsorption of other anions.; The EC defluoridation process could be scaled up at a constant current/volume ratio.;

Long time series of observations of atmospheric dynamics and composition are collected at the French Pyrenean Platform for Observation of the Atmosphere (P2OA). Planetary boundary layer depth is a key variable of the climate system, but it remains difficult to estimate and analyse statistically. In order to obtain reliable estimates of the convective boundary layer height (Zi) and to allow long-term series analyses, a new restitution algorithm, named CALOTRITON, has been developed. It is based on the observations of an ultra-high-frequency (UHF) radar wind profiler (RWP) from P2OA with the help of other instruments for evaluation. Estimates of Zi are based on the principle that the top of the convective boundary layer is associated with both a marked inversion and a decrease in turbulence. Those two criteria are respectively manifested by larger RWP reflectivity and smaller vertical-velocity Doppler spectral width. With this in mind, we introduce a new UHF-deduced dimensionless parameter which weighs the air refractive index structure coefficient with the inverse of vertical velocity standard deviation to the power of x. We then search for the most appropriate local maxima of this parameter for Zi estimates with defined criteria and constraints such as temporal continuity. Given that Zi should correspond to fair-weather cloud base height, we use ceilometer data to optimize our choice of the power x and find that x=3 provides the best comparisons. The estimates of Zi by CALOTRITON are evaluated using different Zi estimates deduced from radiosounding according to different definitions. The comparison shows excellent results with a regression coefficient of up to 0.96 and a root-mean-square error of 71 m, which is close to the vertical resolution of the UHF RWP of 75 m, when conditions are optimal. In more complex situations, that is when the atmospheric vertical structure is itself particularly ambiguous, secondary retrievals allow us to identify potential thermal internal boundary layers or residual layers and help to qualify the Zi estimations. Frequent estimate errors are observed nevertheless; for example, when Zi is below the UHF RWP first reliable gate or when the boundary layer begins its transition to a stable nocturnal boundary layer.
