Abstract Background Early diagnosis of HIV infection decreases the time from HIV diagnosis to viral suppression and reduces further HIV transmission. The Chinese Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of HIV/AIDS (2021 edition) state that an HIV RNA level > 5,000 copies/mL is the threshold for diagnosing HIV infection. The impact of low viral load values on HIV diagnosis needs to be investigated. Methods There were 3455 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV1 + 2) antibody results (immunoblotting method) and 65,129 HIV viral load values at Beijing Youan Hospital from 2019 to 2022. A total of 2434 patients had both antibody confirmatory results and viral load results. The confirmatory antibody results and HIV viral load results of 2434 patients were analyzed to investigate the impact of low viral load values on HIV diagnosis. Results Of the 2434 patients who had both confirmatory antibody results and viral load results, the viral load values of 140 patients (5.8%) had viral loads ranging from 40 copies/mL to 5,000 copies/mL before positive confirmatory antibody result, and of these 140 patients, the sample receipt time for the viral load tests of 96 (66.7%) individuals was 1 to 6 days earlier than the corresponding sample receipt time for the confirmatory antibody test. In addition, 34 patients (1.4%) had low viral loads ranging from 40 copies/mL to 1,000 copies/mL before positive confirmatory antibody result. Conclusion This study revealed that there is a risk of missed diagnosis if a threshold of 5000 copies/mL is used for the diagnosis of HIV infection. These data provide valuable information for the early diagnosis of HIV infection, and our findings have potential benefits for decreasing HIV transmission.

To assess the viability and effectiveness of bioretention cell in enhancing rainwater resource utilization within sponge cities, this study employs field monitoring, laboratory testing, and statistical analysis to evaluate the water purification capabilities of bioretention cell. Findings indicate a marked purification impact on surface runoff, with removal efficiencies of 59.81% for suspended solids (SS), 39.01% for chemical oxygen demand (COD), 37.53% for ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), and 30.49% for total phosphorus (TP). The treated water largely complies with rainwater reuse guidelines and tertiary sewage discharge standards. Notably, while previous research in China has emphasized water volume control in sponge city infrastructures, less attention has been given to the qualitative aspects and field-based evaluations. This research not only fills that gap but also offers valuable insights and practical implications for bioretention cell integration into sponge city development. Moreover, the methodology and outcomes of this study serve as a benchmark for future sponge city project assessments, offering guidance to relevant authorities. Abstract Background With the increasing prevalence of colorectal cancer (CRC), optimizing perioperative management is of paramount importance. This study investigates the potential of stellate ganglion block (SGB), known for its stress response-mediating effects, in improving postoperative recovery. We postulate that preoperative SGB may enhance the postoperative recovery of patients undergoing laparoscopic CRC surgery. Methods We conducted a randomized controlled trial of 57 patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery at a single center. Patients, aged 18–70 years, were randomly assigned to receive either preoperative SGB or standard care. SGB group patients received 10 mL of 0.2% ropivacaine under ultrasound guidance prior to surgery. Primary outcome was time to flatus, with secondary outcomes encompassing time to defecation, lying in bed time, visual analog scale (VAS) pain score, hospital stays, patient costs, intraoperative and postoperative complications, and 3-year mortality. A per-protocol analysis was used. Results Twenty-nine patients in the SGB group and 28 patients in the control group were analyzed. The SGB group exhibited a significantly shorter time to flatus (mean [SD] hour, 20.52 [9.18] vs. 27.93 [11.69]; p = 0.012), accompanied by decreased plasma cortisol levels (mean [SD], postoperatively, 4.01 [3.42] vs 7.75 [3.13], p = 0.02). Notably, postoperative pain was effectively managed, evident by lower VAS scores at 6 h post-surgery in SGB-treated patients (mean [SD], 4.70 [0.91] vs 5.35 [1.32]; p = 0.040). Furthermore, patients in the SGB group experienced reduced hospital stay length (mean [SD], day, 6.61 [1.57] vs 8.72 [5.13], p = 0.042). Conclusions Preoperative SGB emerges as a promising approach to enhance the postoperative recovery of patients undergoing laparoscopic CRC surgery. ObjectiveSphingosine-1-phosphate receptor (S1PR) modulators have recently attracted increasing attention for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). Despite their preference in the clinic, multiple adverse events (AEs) continue to be reported every year. This study aimed to investigate the potential AEs as well as related important medical events (IMEs) signal associated with S1PR modulators, including fingolimod, siponimod and ozanimod in a real-world study using the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database.MethodsAll data were collected from the FAERS database, spanning from the fourth quarter of 2010(2010Q4) to the second quarter of 2023 (2023Q2). Potential AE and IME signals of S1PR modulators were identified based on a disproportionality analysis using the reporting odds ratio (ROR), proportional reporting ratio (PRR), and the bayesian confidence propagation neural network of information components (IC).ResultsOverall, 276,436 reports of fingolimod, 20,972 reports of siponimod and 10,742 reports of ozanimod were analyzed from the FAERS database. Among reports, females were more prone to develop AEs (73.71% for females vs. 23.21% for males), and more than 50% of patients suffered from AEs were between 18 and 64 years. Subsequently, we investigated the top 20 AEs associated with the signal strength of S1PR modulators at the preferred term (PT) level, and identified 31 (8 vs. 11 vs. 12, respectively) unlabeled risk signals such as thrombosis, uterine disorder and reproductive system and breast disorders. Furthermore, we discovered that the S1PR modulator reported variations in the possible IMEs, and that the IMEs associated with ocular events were reported frequently. It’s interesting to note that infection and malignancy are prominent signals with both fingolimod and siponimod in the top 20 PTs related to mortality reports.ConclusionThe present investigation highlights the possible safety risks associated with S1PR modulators. The majority of AEs are generally consistent with previous studies and are mentioned in the prescribing instructions, however, several unexpected AE signals have also been observed. Ozanimod showed the lowest signal intensity and a better safety profile than the other S1PR modulators. Due to the short marketing time of drugs and the limitations of spontaneous reporting database, further research is required to identify potential AEs related to S1PR modulators.

Abstract We attempt to present an unified description of the light meson spectra and the light diquark spectra by applying the Regge trajectory approach. However, we find that the direct application of the linear Regge trajectory formula for the light mesons and baryons fails. To address this issue, we fit the experimental data of light meson spectra and the light diquark spectra obtained by other theoretical approaches. By considering the light quark mass and the parameter C in the Cornell potential, we provide a provisional Regge trajectory formula. We also crudely estimate the masses of the light diquarks (ud), (us), and (ss), and find that they agree with other theoretical results. The diquark Regge trajectory not only becomes a new and very simple approach for estimating the spectra of the light diquarks, but also can explicitly show the behavior of the masses with respect to l or $$n_r$$ n r . Moreover, it is expected that the diquark Regge trajectory can provide a simple method for investigating the $$\rho $$ ρ -mode excitations of baryons, tetraquarks and pentaquarks containing diquarks.

Abstract Background Basic public health services for diabetes play an essential role in controlling glycemia in patients with diabetes. This study was conducted to understand the urban-rural disparities in the utilization of basic public health services for people with diabetes and the factors influencing them. Methods The data were obtained from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) with 2976 diabetes patients. Chi-square tests were used to examine the disparities in the utilization of diabetes physical examination and health education between urban and rural areas. Logistic regression was performed to explore the factors associated with the utilization of diabetes public health services. Results Among all participants, 8.4% used diabetes physical examination in the past year, and 28.4% used diabetes health education services. Abstract Background Chronic primary pain (CPP) is an intractable pain of unknown cause with significant emotional distress and/or dysfunction that is a leading factor of disability globally. The lack of a suitable animal model that mimic CPP in humans has frustrated efforts to curb disease progression. 2R, 6R-hydroxynorketamine (2R, 6R-HNK) is the major antidepressant metabolite of ketamine and also exerts antinociceptive action. However, the analgesic mechanism and whether it is effective for CPP are still unknown. Methods Based on nociplastic pain is evoked by long-term potentiation (LTP)-inducible high- or low-frequency electrical stimulation (HFS/LFS), we wanted to develop a novel CPP mouse model with mood and cognitive comorbidities by noninvasive low-frequency percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (LF-PENS). Single/repeated 2R, 6R-HNK or other drug was intraperitoneally (i.p.) or intrathecally (i.t.) injected into naïve or CPP mice to investigate their analgesic effect in CPP model. A variety of behavioral tests were used to detect the changes in pain, mood and memory. Immunofluorescent staining, western blot, reverse transcription-quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and calcium imaging of in cultured dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons by Fluo-8-AM were used to elucidate the role and mechanisms of 2R, 6R-HNK in vivo or in vitro. Results Intrathecal 2R, 6R-HNK, rather than intraperitoneal 2R, 6R-HNK or intrathecal S-Ketamine, successfully mitigated HFS-induced pain. Importantly, intrathecal 2R, 6R-HNK displayed effective relief of bilateral pain hypersensitivity and depressive and cognitive comorbidities in a dose-dependent manner in LF-PENS-induced CPP model. Mechanically, 2R, 6R-HNK markedly attenuated neuronal hyperexcitability and the upregulation of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) or vanilloid-1 (TRPV1), and vesicular glutamate transporter-2 (VGLUT2) in peripheral nociceptive pathway. In addition, 2R, 6R-HNK suppressed calcium responses and CGRP overexpression in cultured DRG neurons elicited by the agonists of TRPA1 or/and TRPV1. Strikingly, the inhibitory effects of 2R, 6R-HNK on these pain-related molecules and mechanical allodynia were substantially occluded by TRPA1 antagonist menthol. Conclusions In the newly designed CPP model, our findings highlighted the potential utility of intrathecal 2R, 6R-HNK for preventing and therapeutic modality of CPP. TRPA1-mediated uprgulation of CGRP and neuronal hyperexcitability in nociceptive pathways may undertake both unique characteristics and solving process of CPP.

Abstract We attempt to apply the Regge trajectory approach to the heavy-light diquarks composed of one heavy quark and one light quark. However, we find that the direct application of the usual Regge trajectory formula for the heavy-light mesons and baryons fails. In order to correctly estimate the masses of the heavy-light diquarks, it is needed to consider the light quark mass correction and the parameter C in the Cornell potential within the Regge trajectory formula. By using the modified Regge trajectory formulas, we are able to estimate the masses of the heavy-light diquarks (cu), (cs), (bu) and (bs), which agree with other theoretical results. It is illustrated that the heavy-light diquarks satisfy the universal descriptions irrespective of heavy quark flavors, similar to other heavy-light systems such as the heavy-light mesons, the heavy-light baryons composed of one heavy quark (diquark) and one light diquark (quark), and the heavy-light tetraquarks composed of one heavy diquark (antidiquark) and one light antidiquark (diquark). The diquark Regge trajectory provides a new and very simple approach for estimating the spectra of the heavy-light diquarks.

Abstract Due to environmental hypoxia on the Tibetan Plateau, local residents often exhibit a compensative increase in hemoglobin concentration to maintain the body’s oxygen supply. However, increases in hemoglobin and hematocrit (Hct) pose a serious challenge to the quality of stored suspended red blood cells (SRBCs) prepared from the blood of high-hemoglobin populations, especially populations at high altitude with polycythemia in Tibet. To explore the difference in storage quality of SRBCs prepared from plateau residents with a high hemoglobin concentration, blood donors were recruited from Tibet (> 3600 m) and Chengdu (≈ 500 m) and divided into a high-altitude control (HAC) group, high-altitude polycythemia (HAPC) group and lowland control (LLC) group according to their hemoglobin concentration and altitude of residence. The extracellular acidification rate (ECAR), pyruvate kinase (PK) activity and band 3 tyrosine phosphorylation were analyzed on the day of blood collection. Then, whole-blood samples were processed into SRBCs, and storage quality parameters were analyzed aseptically on days 1, 14, 21 and 35 of storage. Overall, we found that tyrosine 21 phosphorylation activated glycolysis by releasing glycolytic enzymes from the cytosolic domain of band 3, thus increasing glucose consumption and lactate accumulation during storage, in the HAPC group. In addition, band 3 tyrosine phosphorylation impaired erythrocyte deformability, accompanied by the highest hemolysis rate in the HAPC group, during storage. We believe that these results will stimulate new ideas to further optimize current additive solutions for the high-hemoglobin population in Tibet and reveal new therapeutic targets for the treatment of HAPC populations.

Logistics companies are increasingly adopting private blockchains for enhanced data management because of the trends in cooperation. Nevertheless, this practice poses new challenges concerning the security and sharing of data. The real-time nature and diversity of logistics data increase the difficulty of protecting the data. Additionally, when transportation information changes, downstream enterprises must promptly adjust their production plans to accommodate these alterations. The strict access controls of private blockchains can obstruct downstream enterprises from obtaining data, posing a challenge to the overall operational efficiency. In this paper, we propose an innovative logistics data protection scheme that employs private set intersection (PSI) and blockchain cross-chain technology to achieve data security. In our scheme, logistics companies within the logistics consortium are added as trusted agents to the public blockchain, enabling downstream enterprises to acquire logistics data integration from the public blockchain. Utilizing an RSA-based PSI protocol, our approach enhances exchange efficiency while protecting private data without transmitting additional information. We evaluate the performance of the proposed solution through a series of experiments, and the results demonstrate that our solution can achieve secure and efficient logistics data exchange.

In order to better improve the level and quality of rural family education, this paper adopts text mining technology to interpret the relevant data of rural family education under the background of deep learning. On the basis of deep learning algorithms, web crawler technology is used to obtain rural family education research data. It is found that there are null values and repetitive values in the acquired research data, so it is necessary to further clean the research data. After washing, the combined Bi-LSTM-CRF algorithm is used to process the data for Chinese word segmentation, and at the same time, the stop word list is improved in order to achieve the best word segmentation effect. The LDA thematic model was used to determine the influencing factors of rural family education, and then the linear regression algorithm was used to analyze rural family education empirically. Rural teachers with different education levels were not significantly different in Q1 (1.608), Q2 (0.117), Q3 (2.019), Q4 (1.733), and Q5 (2.042), according to the results. The adjusted R2 is 0.133, indicating a fair fit between the model obtained from the regression analysis and the actual data, and the regression coefficient of family education is 0.411 after eliminating the confounding interference of grade and political appearance. This study purposefully proposes a path for the innovative development of rural family education, which can provide a theoretical reference program for the development and construction of modern rural family education.

Neuroblastoma is one of the most common tumors in children. Cases where an isolated soft-tissue metastasis mass is the initial symptom are rare, with only four such cases reported to date. We describe the imaging findings of ten cases of neuroblastoma patients in our hospital with superficial soft tissue mass (SSTM) as the primary symptom. The main ultrasound finding of SSTM was hypoechoic masses or scattered speck-like hyperechoic masses. However, when this type of SSTM is caused by soft tissue metastasis, the location is often atypical, and ultrasound findings are difficult to distinguish from other benign diseases. Therefore, this research should remind clinicians to recognize atypical presentations of this common childhood malignant tumor. Radiologists should also consider the possibility of neuroblastoma when finding this type of SSTM with atypical ultrasound features.

Abstract Background Assisted reproductive technology (ART) has brought good news to infertile patients, but how to improve the pregnancy outcome of poor ovarian response (POR) patients is still a serious challenge and the scientific evidence of some adjuvant therapies remains controversial. Aim Based on previous evidence, the purpose of this systematic review and network meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of DHEA, CoQ10, GH and TEAS on pregnancy outcomes in POR patients undergoing in vitro fertilization and embryo transplantation (IVF-ET). In addition, we aimed to determine the current optimal adjuvant treatment strategies for POR. Methods PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library and four databases in China (CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed) were systematically searched up to July 30, 2022, with no restrictions on language. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of adjuvant treatment strategies (DHEA, CoQ10, GH and TEAS) before IVF-ET to improve pregnancy outcomes in POR patients, while the control group received a controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) regimen only. This study was reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) was used to provide a pooled measure of cumulative ranking for each outcome. Results Sixteen RCTs (2323 women) with POR defined using the Bologna criteria were included in the network meta-analysis. Compared with the control group, CoQ10 (OR 2.22, 95% CI: 1.05 to 4.71) and DHEA (OR 1.92, 95% CI: 1.16 to 3.16) had obvious advantages in improving the clinical pregnancy rate. CoQ10 was the best in improving the live birth rate (OR 2.36, 95% CI: 1.07 to 5.38). DHEA increased the embryo implantation rate (OR 2.80, 95%CI: 1.41 to 5.57) and the high-quality embryo rate (OR 2.01, 95% CI: 1.07 to 3.78) and number of oocytes retrieved (WMD 1.63, 95% CI: 0.34 to 2.92) showed a greater advantage, with GH in second place. Several adjuvant treatment strategies had no significant effect on reducing the cycle canceling rate compared with the control group. TEAS was the least effective of the four adjuvant treatments in most pooled results, but the overall effect appeared to be better than that of the control group. Conclusion Compared with COS regimen, the adjuvant use of CoQ10, DHEA and GH before IVF may have a better clinical effect on the pregnancy outcome of POR patients. TEAS needs careful consideration in improving the clinical pregnancy rate. Future large-scale RCTs with direct comparisons are needed to validate or update this conclusion. Abstract Sperm is essential for successful artificial insemination in dairy cattle, and its quality can be influenced by both epigenetic modification and epigenetic inheritance. The bovine germline differentiation is characterized by epigenetic reprogramming, while intergenerational and transgenerational epigenetic inheritance can influence the offspring’s development through the transmission of epigenetic features to the offspring via the germline. Therefore, the selection of bulls with superior sperm quality for the production and fertility traits requires a better understanding of the epigenetic mechanism and more accurate identifications of epigenetic biomarkers. We have comprehensively reviewed the current progress in the studies of bovine sperm epigenome in terms of both resources and biological discovery in order to provide perspectives on how to harness this valuable information for genetic improvement in the cattle breeding industry.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the level of knowledge, attitude and self-management behaviors of diabetic patients, to explore the mediating role of attitude in the relationship between knowledge and self-management behaviors.Methods: 900 diabetes patients were randomly selected from the eastern, central and western regions of Shandong Province, China, and recovered 863 valid questionnaires. Path analysis was used to examine the mediating role of attitude in the relationship between knowledge and self-management behaviors in patients with diabetes.Results: The mean score (SD) of the diabetes self-management questionnaire (DSMQ) in this study was 35.01 (6.87). The direct effect value of knowledge level on self-management behaviors was 0.357, accounting for 62.09% of the total effect. The indirect effect value of knowledge on self-management behaviors through attitude was 0.218, accounting for 37.91%.Conclusion: Level of knowledge has a significant direct impact on self-management behaviors and an indirect impact on self-management behaviors through attitude. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen health education on diabetes to improve awareness, ameliorate attitudes toward diabetes, and change self-management behaviors.

Objectives To quantify the preference of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) for primary healthcare (PHC) institutions in China to redirect the patient flow and improve health outcomes.Design Cross-sectional study. Discrete choice experiment (DCE) surveys asked patients with DM to choose between hypothetical institutions that differed in the medical service capacity, out-of-pocket (OOP) medical costs per month, travel time, the attitude of medical staff and the availability of diabetes drugs.Setting Shandong province, China.Participants The participants were 887 patients with DM from 36 urban communities and 36 rural villages in Shandong province. One participant did not provide any DCE answers and a further 57 patients failed the internal consistency test. 829 fully completed surveys were included in the final data analysis.Main outcomes and measures A mixed logit model was used to calculate the willingness to pay and predict choice probabilities for PHC institution attributes. Preference heterogeneity was also investigated.Results All five attributes were associated with the preferences of patients with DM. The OOP medical costs and the medical service capacity were the most influential attributes. Improvements simultaneously in the attitude of medical staff, drug availability and travel time increased the likelihood of a patient’s PHC institution choice. Preferences differed by region, annual household income and duration of diabetes.Conclusions Our patient preference data may help policymakers improve health services and increase acceptance of choosing PHC institutions. The OOP medical costs and medical service capacity should be regarded as a priority in decision-making.

Authigenic carbonates that form at hydrocarbon seeps, known as seep carbonates, are direct records of past fluid flow close to the seafloor. Stable carbon isotopes of seep carbonates (δ13Ccarb) have been widely used as a proxy for determining fluid sources and seepage mode. Although the spatial heterogeneity of δ13C in seep carbonates is increasingly understood, the temporal heterogeneity of δ13C in seep carbonates is not well studied. In this study, we report δ13C values of different components (clasts, matrix, and pore-filling cements) for 124 subsamples drilled across an authigenic carbonate block from Green Canyon block 140 (GC140) of the northern Gulf of Mexico continental slope. High-Mg calcite is the dominant mineral regardless the types of components. The δ13Ccarb values range from −39.6‰ to 3.6‰, indicating multiple dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) sources that include methane carbon (13C-depleted), seawater DIC, and residual CO2 from methanogenesis (13C-enriched). Specifically, the clasts show large variability in δ13C values (−39.6‰ to 2.3‰; mean: −27.6‰, n = 71), demonstrating the dominance of methane-derived fluids during formation at the initial seepage stage. The δ13C values of the matrix vary between −29.4‰ and 3.4‰ (mean: −11.6‰, n = 21). The carbon isotopes of pore-filling cements that formed most recently vary narrowly, with δ13C values of −3.2‰ to 3.6‰ (mean: 1.7‰, n = 28). Isotopic variations within individual samples were observed in seep carbonate. However, common trends occur across components of carbonates that formed during different seepage stages. This suggests that the temporal evolution of local fluid sources may play an important role in determining carbonate isotope geochemistry. Studies regarding seeps must take into account the highly variable fluids that leave their geochemical imprints on the seep carbonate.

In order to obtain the optimal vibration response of a seven-axle elevated platform vehicle with hydro-pneumatic suspension（HPS）, a hybrid coupling scheme of parallel connection ＆ contralateral cross-linked for HPS was designed. The dynamic model with 20 degrees of freedom which can comprehensively reflect vehicle coupling vibration including vertical-lateral-longitudinal-transverse was established. The vibration response characteristics of the vehicle and the influence of key parameters were analyzed by joint simulation. A single objective function contains two evaluation indices of vehicle ride comfort and stability was established through analytic hierarchy process（AHP） and range transformation standardization. The parameters optimization calculation of HPS was carried out. The model reference adaptive control, based on the principle of global vibration, applying Lyapunov design adaptive law, was carried on the HPS. The simulation results show that the evaluation index of vehicle vibration response is significantly improved after parameter optimization and superposition adaptive control.

Abstract Appropriate biomarkers may help distinguish the biological behavior of different types of lymphoma and their response to traditional chemotherapy. Extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) belong to different subtypes of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, the biological behavior and prognosis of them are very different, programmed cell death receptor 1 (PD-1) and its ligand (PD-L1) have been investigated in these two types of diseases. (1) Background: Preclinical as well as population studies have connected general anesthesia and surgery with a higher risk of abnormal cognitive development, including emotional development. Gut microbiota dysbiosis in neonatal rodents during the perioperative period has been reported, however, the relevance of this to human children who undergo multiple anesthesia for surgeries is unknown. Given the emerging role of altered gut microbes in propagating anxiety and depression, we sought to study whether repeated infantile exposures to surgery and anesthesia affect gut microbiota and anxiety behaviors later in life. (2) Methods: This is a retrospectively matched cohort study comparing 22 pediatric patients of less than 3 years of age with multiple exposures (≥3) to anesthesia for surgeries and 22 healthy controls with no history of exposure to anesthesia. The parent report version of the Spence Children’s Anxiety Scale (SCAS-P) was applied to evaluate anxiety in children aged between 6 and 9 years old. Additionally, the gut microbiota profiles of the two groups were compared using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. (3) Results: In behavioral tests, the p-SCAS score of obsessive compulsive disorder and social phobia were significantly higher in children with repeated anesthesia exposure relative to the controls. There were no significant differences between the two groups with respect to panic attacks and agoraphobia, separation anxiety disorder, physical injury fears, generalized anxiety disorder, and the total SCAS-P scores. In the control group, 3 children out of 22 were found to have moderately elevated scores, but none of them had abnormally elevated scores. In the multiple-exposure group, 5 children out of 22 obtained moderately elevated scores, while 2 scored as abnormally elevated. However, no statistically significant differences were detected in the number of children with elevated and abnormally elevated scores. The data show that repeated anesthesia and surgical exposures in children led to long-lasting severe gut microbiota dysbiosis. (4) Conclusions: In this preliminary study, our findings demonstrated that early repeated exposures to anesthesia and surgical predisposes children to anxiety as well as long-term gut microbiota dysbiosis. We should confirm these findings in a larger data population size and with detailed analysis. However, the authors cannot confirm an association between the dysbiosis and anxiety.

Inorganic Bi-based double perovskite oxide, Bi2FeCrO6 (BFCO), has offered new opportunities for applications in burgeoning fields of optoelectronic and photovoltaic, due to its unique multiferroic properties at room temperature. The P-type direct-bandgap semiconductor Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) was adopted to couple with BFCO as hole transport layer, in order to construct BFCO/CZTS heterostructure. Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique was used to deposit above-mentioned polynary compound films on different substrates (i.e. FTO conductive glass, Nb-doped SrTiO3 and Si/SiO2/Ti/Pt). For the preparation of heterojunctions, the interfacial defects and impurities could be effectively restrained by in-situ layer-by-layer deposition technique. The systematical analysis according to SEM, AFM, EDS and XRD measurements verified that the morphology of the achieved stoichiometric films was basically uniform and dense. The impacts of deposition temperature on the product performance were emphatically investigated. The bandgap of obtained BFCO and CZTS films (i.e. 2.23 eV and 1.49 eV, respectively) was estimated by using Tauc method based on visible absorption spectroscopy measurements. The results show that BFCO/CZTS heterojunction has a favorable rectifying characteristic; the leakage current mechanism is consistent with Schottky emission model when the electric field intensity spans from 0.5 kV/cm to 2.0 kV/cm.

The Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam demonstrates great potential for optical communication due to its orthogonality between different eigenstates, and has gained increased research interest in recent years. Here, we propose a dual-output mode analysis method based on deep learning that can accurately obtain both the mode weight and phase information of multimode LG beams. We reconstruct the LG beams based on the result predicted by the convolutional neural network. It shows that the correlation coefficient values after reconstruction are above 0.9999, and the mean absolute error (MAE) of the mode weights and phases are about 1.4 × 10−3 and 2.9 × 10−3, respectively. The model still maintains relatively accurate prediction for the associated unknown data set and the noise-disturbed samples. In addition, the computation time of the model for a single test sample takes only 0.975 ms on average. These results show that our method has good abilities of generalization and robustness and allows for nearly real-time modal analysis.

BackgroundDeveloping brain is highly plastic and can be easily affected. Growing pediatric usage of anesthetics during painless procedures has raised concerns about the effect of low-dose anesthetics on neurodevelopment. It is urgent to ascertain the neuronal effect of low-dose Propofol, a widely used anesthetic in pediatrics, on developing brains.MethodsThe behavioral tests after neonatal exposure to low-dose/high-dose Propofol in mice were conducted to clarify the cognitive effect. The nascent cells undergoing proliferation and differentiation stage in the hippocampus and cultured neural stem cells (NSCs) were further identified. In addition, single-nuclei RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq), NSCs bulk RNA-seq, and metabolism trials were performed for pathway investigation. Furthermore, small interfering RNA and stereotactic adenovirus injection were, respectively, used in NSCs and hippocampal to confirm the underlying mechanism.ResultsBehavioral tests in mice showed enhanced spatial cognitive ability after being exposed to low-dose Propofol. Activated neurogenesis was observed both in hippocampal and cultured NSCs. Moreover, transcriptome analysis of snRNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq, and metabolism trials revealed a significantly enhanced oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) level in NSCs. Furthermore, PGC-1α, a master regulator in mitochondria metabolism, was found upregulated after Propofol exposure both in vivo and in vitro. Importantly, downregulation of PGC-1α remarkably prevented the effects of low-dose Propofol in activating OXPHOS and neurogenesis.ConclusionsTaken together, this study demonstrates a novel alteration of mitochondrial function in hippocampal neurogenesis after low-dose Propofol exposure, suggesting the safety, even potentially beneficial effect, of low-dose Propofol in pediatric use.

BackgroundParkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease affecting the movement of elderly patients. Environmental exposures are the risk factors for PD; however, gut environmental risk factors for PD are critically understudied. The proof-of-concept study is to identify gut metabolites in feces, as environmental exposure risk factors, that are associated with PD and potentially increase the risk for PD by using leverage of known toxicology results.Materials and methodsWe collected the data regarding the gut metabolites whose levels were significantly changed in the feces of patients with PD from the original clinical studies after searching the following databases: EBM Reviews, PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, and Elsevier ClinicalKey. We further searched each candidate metabolite-interacting PD gene set by using the public Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD), identified and validated gut metabolites associated with PD, and determined gut metabolites affecting specific biological functions and cellular pathways involved in PD by using PANTHER tools.ResultsSixteen metabolites were identified and divided into the following main categories according to their structures and biological functions: alcohols (ethanol), amino acids (leucine, phenylalanine, pyroglutamic acid, glutamate, and tyrosine), short-chain fatty acids (propionate and butyrate), unsaturated fatty acids (linoleic acid and oleic acid), energy metabolism (lactate, pyruvate, and fumarate), vitamins (nicotinic acid and pantothenic acid), and choline metabolism (choline). Finally, a total of three identified metabolites, including butyrate, tyrosine, and phenylalanine, were validated that were associated with PD.ConclusionOur findings identified the gut metabolites that were highly enriched for PD genes and potentially increase the risk of developing PD. The identification of gut metabolite exposures can provide biomarkers for disease identification, facilitate an understanding of the relationship between gut metabolite exposures and response, and present an opportunity for PD prevention and therapies.

The surface properties and the hierarchical pore structure of carbon materials are important for their actual application in supercapacitors. It is important to pursue an integrated approach that is both easy and cost-effective but also challenging. Herein, coal-based hierarchical porous carbon with nitrogen doping was prepared by a simple dual template strategy using coal as the carbon precursor. The hierarchical pores were controlled by incorporating different target templates. Thanks to high conductivity, large electrochemically active surface area (483 m2 g−1), hierarchical porousness with appropriate micro-/mesoporous channels, and high surface nitrogen content (5.34%), the resulting porous carbon exhibits a high specific capacitance in a three-electrode system using KOH electrolytes, reaching 302 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 and 230 F g−1 at 50 A g−1 with a retention rate of 76%. At 250 W kg−1, the symmetrical supercapacitor assembled at 6 M KOH shows a high energy density of 8.3 Wh kg−1, and the stability of the cycling is smooth. The energy density of the symmetric supercapacitor assembled under ionic liquids was further increased to 48.3 Wh kg−1 with a power output of 750 W kg−1 when the operating voltage was increased to 3 V. This work expands the application of coal-based carbon materials in capacitive energy storage.

The Wufeng–Longmaxi Formation in northern Guizhou Province is the dominant shale gas exploration and development strata in China. This study investigates the Shixi and Daozhen synclines, which are located in the basin margin transition zone. This region experienced complex tectonic stages and superimposed transformations, resulting in heterogeneous preservation conditions and shale reservoir pressure evolution in different tectonic units of the Wufeng–Longmaxi Formation. Based on fluid inclusion analysis, the types of fluid inclusion and the fluid filling stages of the Wufeng–Longmaxi shale reservoir were determined by laser Raman analysis and homogenization temperature and salinity tests. It was found that the fluid inclusion density and paleopressure in each filling stage were then restored. The results confirm that: ① Both the Shixi syncline and Daozhen syncline Wufeng–Longmaxi shale reservoirs experienced two fluid filling phases, in the early Yanshanian and late Yanshanian–Himalayan, respectively. In the course of tectonic evolution, the Wufeng–Longmaxi Formation in the Shixi and Daozhen synclines experienced pressure relief to some extent during the two aforementioned key fluid charging periods but remained in overpressurized states overall; ② The Wufeng–Longmaxi Formations of the Shixi and Daozhen synclines are characterized by high-density methane inclusions; ③ Based on the differences in the structural preservation conditions, the pressure evolution mechanisms of the Wufeng–Longmaxi Formation Shales during the important tectonic evolution period in northern Guizhou Province were revealed. Furthermore, differential enrichment and accumulation models of shale gas were established and named “facing thrust structural sealing type (Shixi syncline)” and “reverse fault lateral blocking type (Daozhen syncline)”.

BackgroundDreams can be affected by recent life events and long-term life experiences. Previous evidence has shown that childhood adverse experiences are associated with sleep quality and dream experiences.ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to explore the relationship between childhood adverse experiences and dream content in adults.Participants and SettingA total of 163 participants without current or past physical or mental disorders aged between 18 and 35 were screened in the hospital. Among them, 120 subjects who completed a dream content record at home and whose anxiety and depression levels and sleep quality were within the normal range were included in the data analysis.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted from June 2017 to December 2019. Dream content for 10 consecutive days was recorded by the participants and coded by the Hall and Van de Castle coding system. Childhood adversity was assessed by the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ). In the end, 719 dreams out of 626 nights for 120 participants (44 female) were included in the data analysis, gender differences between groups were analyzed using t-tests or U tests, and Spearman’s partial correlation and multiple linear regression were used to investigate the relationship between childhood trauma and dream content.ResultsChildhood adversity was associated with characters, friendly interactions, and objects in dream content. Regression models of childhood adversity predicting characters and objects in dream content were constructed. There were no gender differences in general demographic data, sleep quality, emotional state, childhood adversity, dream recall frequency, or dream content.ConclusionChildhood adversity is associated with adult dream content.

Abstract Background Stem cell transplantation has been reported as one of the promising strategies to treat retinal degenerative diseases. But, the application and the role of retina stem cells (RSCs) in the treatment of patients with retinal degenerative diseases have not been fully revealed. This study aimed to investigate the potential role of transplantation of the embryo-derived RSCs into the vitreous cavity in repairing the damaged retina in mice. Methods RSCs were isolated from Kunming mice E17 embryonic retina and ciliary body tissues, and labeled with 5-bromo-2’-deoxyuridin (BrdU). Retinal optic nerve crush injury was induced in left eyes in male Kunming mice by ring clamping the optic nerve. The 6th -generation of BrdU-labeled RSCs were transplanted into the damaged retina by the intravitreal injection, and saline injected eyes were used as the control. Hematoxylin and eosin histological staining, and BrdU, Nestin and Pax6 immunostaining were performed. Electroretinogram (ERG) was used for assessing the electrical activity of the retina. Results Embryo-derived RSCs were identified by the positive stains of Pax6 and Nestin. BrdU incorporation was detected in the majority of RSCs. The damaged retina showed cellular nuclear disintegration and fragmentation in the retinal tissue which progressed over the periods of clamping time, and decreased amplitudes of a and b waves in ERG. In the damaged retina with RSCs transplantation, the positive staining for BrdU, Pax6 and Nestin were revealed on the retinal surface. Notably, RSCs migrated into the retinal ganglion cell layer and inner nuclear. Transplanted RSCs significantly elevated the amplitudes of a waves in retina injured eyes. Conclusions Embryonic RSCs have similar characteristics to neural stem cells. Transplantation of RSCs by intravitreal injection would be able to repair the damaged retina.

Arsenic is a dangerous metalloid-material which is known to cause liver injury in many animals and humans. However, little is known about the underlying mechanism of arsenic-induced hepatotoxicity in poultry. This study was executed to systematically investigate the potential role of mitochondrial biogenesis, mitophagy and apoptosis in duck hepatotoxicity caused by arsenic. Results showed that the body weight and liver coefficient of duck had distinct changed after arsenic-exposure, and the arsenic content in serum and liver also increased significantly in a dose-dependent manner. Meanwhile, histopathological examination and metabolomics results showed that arsenic-exposure caused severe steatosis and metabolism disorder in liver tissues. Furthermore, arsenic-exposure significantly inhibited AMPK/PGC-1α-mediated mitochondrial biogenesis, determined by the ultrastructure observation and down-regulation of p-AMPKα/AMPKα, PGC-1α, NRF1, NRF2, TFAM, TFB1M, TFB2M and COX-Ⅳ expression levels. Besides, arsenic-treatment obviously increased the levels of mitophagy (PINK1, Parkin, LC3, P62) and pro-apoptotic (Caspase-3, Caspase-9, Cleaved Caspase-3, Cytc, Bax, P53) indexes, and simultaneously resulted in reductions in anti-apoptosis index (Bcl-2). Overall, our findings provided evidences that arsenic-induced duck hepatotoxicity may be caused by a combination of impaired mitochondrial biosynthesis, mitophagy, and mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis. To our knowledge, this is the first report to systematically investigate the potential mechanism of arsenic-induced hepatotoxicity in poultry.

Abstract Backgrounds The aim of this study is investigating the benefits and harms of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Methods We comprehensively searched PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane library for randomized controlled trials comparing NMBAs to any other comparator. We pooled data using relative risk (RR) for dichotomous outcomes and weighted mean difference (WMD) for continuous outcomes, with 95% confidence intervals. We assessed the quality of included studies using the Cochrane tool and levels of evidence using the GRADE method. Results Finally, six RCTs (n = 1557 patients) were eligible for analysis. The results showed NMBAs use was not associated with reduced 28 days mortality (RR 0.78; 95% CI, 0.58 to 1.06; P = 0.11), 90 days mortality (RR, 0.92; 95% CI, 0.81 to 1.04; P = 0.16), and intensive care unit (ICU) mortality (RR, 0.90; 95% CI, 0.79 to 1.03; P = 0.13) in patients with ARDS. However, 21–28 days mortality was slightly lower in patients received NMBAs (RR 0.73; 95% CI, 0.54 to 0.99; P = 0.04; I2 = 53%). Besides, NMBAs use could improve the PaO2/FiO2 ratio at 48 and 72 h, decrease plateau pressure and PEEP at 72 h. Additionally, NMBAs had no significant effects on days free of ventilation at day 28 (WMD, 0.55; 95% CI, − 0.46 to 1.57; P = 0.29), days not in ICU at day 28 (WMD, 0.12; 95% CI, − 0.85 to 1.08; P = 0.82), ICU-acquired weakness (RR, 1.23; 95% CI, 0.99 to 1.93; P = 0.06). Finally, NMBAs use was associated with a lower risk of barotrauma (RR, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.35 to 0.85; P = 0.007). Conclusion In patients with respiratory distress syndrome, NMBAs may be beneficial in reverse refractory hypoxemia and may be associated with reduced short-term mortality and incidence of barotrauma. However, there is no significant effects of NMBAs on mid-term and long-term mortality, and further studies are required.

A photonic method to generate hybrid binary digitally modulated radio frequency (RF) signals (i.e. ASK, PSK, and FSK) by using a polarization-division-multiplexed Mach-Zehnder modulator (PDM-MZM) is proposed. The PDM-MZM is driven by two RF signals with different carrier frequencies and two multiplied digital signals. By properly controlling the offsets and the amplitudes of the digital signals, ASK, PSK, and FSK signals can be generated and switched fastly. RF signals at 4/6 GHz and 10/15 GHz with switchable modulation formats are experimentally generated. Moreover, the performances of the generated signals are evaluated in a wireless transmission system and corresponding bit error rate (BER) curves of the signals are presented.

AIM: To explore the mechanism of action of nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor 3(NLRP3)/interleukin-1β(IL-1β)pathway in proliferative diabetic retinopathy.METHODS: Totally 49 cases(49 eyes)of proliferative diabetic retinopathy(study group)and 41 cases(41 eyes)of idiopathic macular hole(control group)in ophthalmology department of our hospital from September 2015 to March 2018 were selected. The expression of NLRP3, the levels of reactive oxygen species(ROS), malondialdehyde(MDA)and the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD)in proliferative epiretinal membrane and macular epiretinal membrane were measured. The concentrations of IL-1β and interleukin-18(IL-18)in the vitreous of the two groups were also determined. RESULTS: The positive expression rate of NLRP3 protein in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group(90% vs 5%, Pvs(4.63±0.92);(97.61±15.73)pg/mL vs(52.07±11.38)pg/mL, PPPCONCLUSION: NLRP3 and IL-1β are highly expressed in proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The NLRP3/IL-1β pathway can up-regulate the expression levels of inflammatory and oxidative factors and promote disease progression.
