Dysfunction of the intestinal mucosa is a significant pathophysiological mechanism and clinical manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, current therapies for IBD primarily focus on suppressing inflammation, and no disease-modifying treatments specifically target the epithelial barrier. Given the side effects associated with chronic immunotherapy, effective alternative therapies that promote mucosal healing are highly attractive. In this review, we examined the function of intestinal epithelial barrier function and the mechanisms of behind its disruption in IBD. We illustrated the complex process of intestinal mucosal healing and proposed therapeutic approaches to promote mucosal healing strategies in IBD. These included the application of stem cell transplantation and organ-like tissue engineering approaches to generate new intestinal tissue. Finally, we discussed potential strategies to restore the function of the intestinal barrier as a treatment for IBD.Keywords: inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal barrier, pathophysiology, treatment

All samples were screened by cluster sampling among those who underwent tests of sex hormones at Beijing Jingcheng Skin Hospital from July 2021 to June 2022. A gender stratified analysis was performed to classify acne grades I–IV. Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationship between age, sex hormones, ratio of androgen to estrogen and acne grades, with multinomial logistic regression to analyze the association of sex hormones with acne grades in patients with acne.Results: (1) The testosterone levels were mostly within normal reference values for both males and females with varying degrees of acne. For females, the serum follicle-stimulating hormone, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, and ratio of androgen to estrogen were significantly different between acne grades. For males, there were significant differences in serum estradiol, testosterone, and ratio of androgen to estrogen across acne grades. (2) The acne grade was negatively correlated with estradiol and positively correlated with the ratio of androgen to estrogen; the female acne grade was also negatively correlated with age and progesterone, but positively correlated with follicle-stimulating hormone. (3) Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the ratio of androgen to estrogen was independently correlated with the grade of acne and that acne grade worsened as the ratio increased.Conclusion: The increase in the ratio of androgen to estrogen may aggravate the acne grade in patients with acne vulgaris.Keywords: acne vulgaris, sex hormones, testosterone, estradiol, ratio of androgen to estrogen

Training (70%) and validation (30%) sets were created by random allocation of data, and a new nomogram model was developed. The model’s discrimination and calibration were measured by calculating the area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) and creating calibration charts. The performance of the nomogram model was compared with that of the Prediction for ASCVD Risk in China (China-PAR) and Framingham models by decision curve analysis. An optimal cutoff point for the risk score in the training set was computed to stratify patients.Results: In the nomogram model, the AUCs for predicting CHD at 5, 7 and 9 years in the training set were 0.706 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.649– 0.763), 0.703 (95% CI 0.655– 0.751) and 0.669 (95% CI 0.593– 0.744), respectively. The respective AUCs were 0.682 (95% CI 0.607– 0.758), 0.689 (95% CI 0.618– 0.760) and 0.664 (95% CI 0.539– 0.789) in the validation set. The calibration chart showed that the predicted events from the nomogram score were close to the observed events. Decision curve analysis indicated that the nomogram score was slightly better than the Prediction for ASCVD Risk in China (China-PAR) and Framingham models for predicting the risk of CHD in snorers with hypertension. A cutoff point was identified for being CHD-free (a nomogram score of ≤ 121), which could be helpful for the early identification of individuals at high-risk of CHD.Conclusion: The nomogram score predicts the risk probability of CHD in snorers with hypertension at 5, 7 and 9 years, and shows good capability in terms of discrimination and calibration. In this study, we examined the dMMR and PD-1/PD-L1 expression, as well as explored the correlation of dMMR status with PD-1/PD-L1 expression in cervical cancer patients, in order to optimize cervical cancer patient selection for PD-1/PD-L1 antibody drug treatment, which is helpful to avoid adverse effects and keep costs manageable. Methods: Sixty-six tissue samples from patients with squamous cell carcinoma were collected, and data of their clinical characteristics were also gathered. Based on these samples, the expression levels of MLH1, MSH2, and PD-L1 in cancer cells were tested by immunohistochemical assay (IHC). Moreover, PD-1/PD-L1 expression in tumor-invading lymphocytes (TILs) was detected by IHC as well. Six single-nucleotide-repeat markers of microsatellite instability (MSI), including NR-27, MONO-27, BAT-25, NR-24, NR-21, and BAT-26, were tested by capillary electrophoresis sequencer analysis. According to expression of MLH1, MSH2 and the MSI test, all 66 cases were divided into dMMR or proficient DNA mismatch repair (pMMR) groups. The comparisons of dMMR and PD-L1 in cancer cells and of PD-1/PD-L1 in TILs were conducted categorized by age, childbearing history, history of abortion, ethnicity, and cancer cell differentiation subgroup. Furthermore, PD-L1 levels in cancer cells and PD-1/PD-L1 in TILs were analyzed and compared in both dMMR and pMMR subgroups. Results: Of the patient samples, 25.8% were associated with dMMR. PD-L1 in cancer cells, PD-L1 in TILs, and PD-1 in TILs took up 59.1%, 47.0%, and 60.6%, respectively. The data indicated that both dMMR and PD-L1 overexpression resulted from lower cancer differentiation, more incidences of childbearing, and a history of abortion. Abortion could significantly increase PD-1 expression levels in TILs. Additionally, more incidence of childbearing or older age (35–55 years) was able to upregulate PD-L1 expression in TILs. Statistical difference of PD-L1 in cancer cells could be observed between dMMR and pMMR subgroups. In the dMMR group, PD-L1 in cancer cells and PD-1 in TILs had no correlation (rs=0.161, p=0.537), but in the pMMR group, they had good correlation (rs=0.645, p

Advances in the brightness, efficiency, and dynamic range of emissive displays are made possible by integrating microLEDs inside every pixel. Economical realization of these displays demands a diverse set of process technologies and device designs to accommodate the characteristics of microLEDs in large‐area formats. Here, we present advancements in stamp‐based mass transfer. We present schemes for packaging microLEDs into multi‐color emitter structures that interface readily with backplane materials. The structures reduce mass transfer cost by increasing parallelism of the process. We demonstrate their utility in active pixel arrays that use microICs as drivers. We introduce a coverglass with light trap film stacks for enhancing contrast in microLED displays. Finally, we present a surface mountable device that incorporates these technologies into a format that is applicable to videowalls and digital signage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BTKi was administered to patients with newly diagnosed, relapsed, refractory primary PCNSL and high-risk/refractory systemic DLBCL, and the effectiveness and PFS were evaluated. A common approach to implementing the Monte Carlo method for the calculation of brachytherapy radiation dose deposition is to use a phase space file containing information on particles emitted from a brachytherapy source. However, the loading of the phase space file during the dose calculation consumes a large amount of computer random access memory, imposing a higher requirement for computer hardware. In this study, we propose a method to parameterize the information (e.g., particle location, direction and energy) stored in the phase space file by using several probability distributions. This method was implemented for dose calculations of a commercial Ir-192 high dose rate source. Dose calculation accuracy of the parameterized source was compared to the results observed using the full phase space file in a simple water phantom and in a clinical breast cancer case. The results showed the parameterized source at a size of 200 kB was as accurate as the phase space file represented source of 1.1 GB. By using the parameterized source representation, a compact Monte Carlo job can be designed, which allows an easy setup for parallel computing in brachytherapy planning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A randomized, multicentre, open-label, phase II study compared temozolomide (TMZ), an oral second-generation alkylating agent, and procarbazine (PCB) in 225 patients with glioblastoma multiforme at first relapse. Primary objectives were to determine progression-free survival (PFS) at 6 months and safety for TMZ and PCB in adult patients who failed conventional treatment. Secondary objectives were to assess overall survival and health-related quality of life (HRQL). TMZ was given orally at 200 mg/m(2)/day or 150 mg/m(2)/day (prior chemotherapy) for 5 days, repeated every 28 days. PCB was given orally at 150 mg/m(2)/day or 125 mg/m(2)/day (prior chemotherapy) for 28 days, repeated every 56 days. HRQL was assessed using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30 [+3]) and the Brain Cancer Module 20 (BCM20). The 6-month PFS rate for patients who received TMZ was 21%, which met the protocol objective. The 6-month PFS rate for those who received PCB was 8% (P = 0.008, for the comparison). Overall PFS significantly improved with TMZ, with a median PFS of 12.4 weeks in the TMZ group and 8.32 weeks in the PCB group (P = 0.0063). The 6-month overall survival rate for TMZ patients was 60% vs. 44% for PCB patients (P = 0.019). Freedom from disease progression was associated with maintenance of HRQL, regardless of treatment received. Background According to early clinical trials, vascular brachytherapy performed prior to or shortly after angioplasty is very effective in reducing restenosis rates. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a novel radioactive catheter that allows simultaneous balloon angioplasty and beta-particle irradiation in the prevention of restenosis.Material and Methods The balloon surface of an angioplasty catheter was impregnated with the radioisotope32P. Dosimetry calculations using a Monte Carlo method were performed at a radial distance of 0·2mm from the balloon surface. Rabbit iliac arteries were dilated and simultaneously irradiated with a dose of 20Gy delivered to the adventitia. Control arteries were only dilated and not irradiated. Neointimal areas, cell numbers and the perimeter of the arteries were measured by histomorphometry after 6 weeks.Results Neointima formation was reduced after balloon dilatation and simultaneous beta-particle irradiation using the32P impregnated angioplasty catheter as compared to balloon dilatation alone with a non-impregnated catheter (0·09±0·06 vs 0·27±0·09mm2neointimal area and 168±45 vs 360±133 cells/0·05mm2neointima, P<0·001 vs control, respectively). In addition, balloon dilatation with the32P impregnated angioplasty catheter increased the vessel perimeter as compared to balloon dilatation with a non-impregnated catheter (4·7±0·2 vs 3·9±0·3mm, P<0·001 vs control).Conclusions Simultaneous balloon dilatation and vascular brachytherapy with a novel32P impregnated angioplasty catheter markedly reduces restenosis in vivo by preventing neointimal hyperplasia and constrictive vascular remodelling. Purpose: To evaluate the interfractional reproducibility of respiration-induced lung tumors motion, defined by their centroids and the intrafractional target motion range. Methods and Materials: Twentythree pairs of four-dimensional/computed tomography scans were acquired for 22 patients. Gross tumor volumes were contoured, Clinical target volumes (CTVs) were generated. Geometric data for CTVs and lung volumes were extracted. The motion tracks of CTV centroids, and CTV edges along the cranio-caudal, anterior-posterior, and lateral directions were evaluated. The Pearson correlation coefficient for motion tracks along the cranio-caudal direction was determined for the entire respiratory cycle and for five phases about the end of expiration. Results: The largest motion extent was along the cranio-caudal direction. The intrafractional motion extent for five CTVs was <0.5 cm, the largest motion range was 3.59 cm. Three CTVs with respiration-induced displacement >0.5 cm did not exhibit the similarity of motion, and for 16 CTVs with motion >0.5 cm the correlation coefficient was >0.8. The lung volumes in corresponding phases for cases that demonstrated CTVs motion similarity were reproducible. No correlation between tumor size and mobility was found. Conclusion: Target motion reproducibility seems to be present in 87% of cases in our dataset. Three cases with dissimilar motion indicate that it is advisable to verify target motion during treatment. The adaptive adjustment to compensate the possible interfractional shifts in a target position should be incorporated as a routine policy for lung cancer radiotherapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
