Abstract Research has posited that social media use during the day may be reflected in nighttime dreams. Nevertheless, no prior studies have explored frightening, unpleasant dreams arising from social media use. This study introduces the construct of the social media-related nightmare by (a) developing and validating a scale capturing negative-valenced dreams with themes of helplessness, loss of control, inhibition, victimization, and making mistakes in social media, and (b) examining relationships between social media use, social media-related nightmares, sleep quality, and affective well-being. A convenience sample of 595 Iranian adult social media users (M age = 27.45, SD age = 11.42) reported on social media-related nightmare, social media use integration, anxiety, peace of mind, sleep quality, and nightmare distress. The Social Media-Related Nightmare Scale (SMNS) demonstrated a unidimensional structure with sound psychometric properties. The most common nightmares involved the inability to log in to social media and the disruption of relationships with other users. Social media use intensity predicted frequency of social media-related nightmares. These nightmares were correlated with increased anxiety, lower peace of mind, poor sleep quality, and nightmare distress. Importantly, social media-related nightmares mediated the relationship between social media use intensity and low affective well-being (i.e., anxiety and peace of mind), poor sleeping, and nightmare distress. The findings suggest that social media-related nightmares could be a potential pathway through which social media engagement may lead to affective distress and sleep difficulties.

Introduction: Thirst is one of the main complaints during Islamic fasting. As bread is the staple food among most Muslims, evaluating its impact on thirst is important. In this study, we investigated the effect of licorice-enriched barley bread compared to barley bread and white wheat bread. Methods: This clinical trial was performed on three consecutive days during Itikaf ceremony. Data were garnered by using a checklist including items on demographic data, weight, height, waist circumference, blood pressure, and pulse rate. Blood pressure and pulse rate measurements were repeated at the end of the study. The participants were divided into three groups receiving functional barley bread enriched with licorice, barley bread, and white wheat bread. The thirst sensation was assessed by Fan visual analogue scale. Also, 24-hour dietary recall was obtained on all the three days. Results: Overall, 273 people participated in this study. Thirst sensation in the functional barley bread was lower than that in the wheat bread and barley bread groups, but there were no significant differences between wheat and barley bread groups in this regard. During the fasting period, the greatest increase in thirst was observed during the first five hours of fasting in all the three groups, which was significantly lower in the functional barley bread group than the wheat and barley bread groups; however, there was no significant difference between wheat and barley bread groups in this respect. Finally, similar results were attained following fluid intake adjustment.Conclusion: This study showed that licorice enrichment of barley bread might alleviate thirst sensation among fasting individuals.

Breast cancer represents the most common malignancy in women worldwide and the ErbB/PI3K pathway has been found to play a crucial role in regulation of the cancer cell growth. MicroRNAs have been implicated in regulating diverse cellular pathways and therefore, understanding the link between the regulatory microRNAs and the ErbB/PI3K signaling pathway could potentially be helpful for breast cancer prevention and treatment. The aim of this study is to examine the regulatory effect of miR-326 on ErbB/PI3K signaling pathway in breast cancer development and progression. The results of qRT-PCR, RNA seq, and array data indicated that miR-326 was remarkably down-regulated in breast tumor tissues and correlated with poor survival outcome. Importantly, very low levels of miR-326 expression were found in aggressive breast cells compared to less-aggressive cell types. Mechanistically, a gene network including EGFR, ErbB2, ErbB3, AKT1, AKT2, and AKT3 targeted by miR-326, thereby providing suppression of ErbB/PI3K pathway, detected by RT-qPCR, and dual luciferase assay. In addition, Western blot analysis revealed that miR-326 upregulation decreased PI3K signaling activity by decreasing total AKT and p-AKT protein level in SKBR3 cell lines. Interestingly, up regulation of ErbB2 rescued the effect of miR-326 on miR-326 target genes. Further functional assays demonstrated that up regulation of miR-326 significantly suppressed cell growth as evidenced by cell cycle, cell cycle associated genes expression, colony formation and MTT assays and induced apoptosis, detected by Annexin V-PI. In addition, EMT markers RT-qPCR, scratch, and Transwell assays showed inhibited cellular migration and invasion following miR-326 upregulation. Altogether, our results revealed that miR-326 play a tumor-suppressive role in breast cancer through inhibiting ErbB/PI3K pathway and miR-326 may serve as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of patients with breast cancer.

Background & aim: Fertility issues after cancer have recently received great attention. This study was designed to review the impacts of breast cancer treatment on fertility. Methods: This study is a narrative review. Textbooks as well as electronic databases including ProQuest, Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, and MEDLINE were comprehensively searched for scientific literature. The search strategy was based on keywords: "Fertility", "Childbearing", "Breast Cancer Survivorship", "Reproductive Issues". A total of 270 titles and abstracts were recognized through searching. Studies, which focused on medical or biological consequences and included premenopausal women or subjects younger than 50 years, were eligible for review. After removing duplicates, studies focused on patients who were not in their reproductive age, and studies with stereotyped results, 30 articles met the inclusion criteria. The articles were screened with regard to their titles and types. The abstracts which best fitted the inclusion criteria were checked for eligibility, and then their full texts were read. To guarantee the consistency of the retrieved information, the data was independently extracted from each study by all the authors, and then was entered to the standardized tables. Results: Long-term fertility dysfunctions happen in most patients under cancer treatment. Also, breast cancer survivors of the reproductive age suffered greater distress over cancer-related infertility. Conclusion: Counseling methods to obtain information about the risk of treatment on fertility and ways to preserve fertility should be presented early in the treatment.

Abstract Background The current corona virus pandemic is acting as a stressor or trauma, which not only threats physical health status, but also threats mental health status and well-being of people. Currently, COVID-19 pandemic is a life-threatening unpredictable condition accompanied with a large number of uncertainties. The present study has mainly aimed to assess mental health and the relevant social factors during this pandemic in Fars province. Methods This cross-sectional study was performed on 922 participants in Fars province, Iran, using internet-based data collection technique. All the included participants filled out the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28). Moreover, demographic variables and some social factors were evaluated by asking some questions. All the participants were ensured of the confidentiality of the collected data, and willingly completed the questionnaire. Results Among the participants, there were 629 women (68.2%) and 293 men (31.2%). The mean age of the participants was 36.98 ± 11.08 years old. Four hundred twenty-five subjects (46.1%) obtained GHQ-28 scores above the cut-off point, and accordingly, they were suspected of having poor mental health statuses. Women, in comparison to men (OR = 2.034, 95%:1.62–3.28), and individuals aged 50 years old (OR: 4.01 95%:2.15–7.50), have poorer mental health statuses. Mental health disorders are prevalent in children in all societies. The onset of most mental disorders is in youth (12–24 years of age), but most of the time they are first detected later in life. Poor mental health is strongly related to other health and development concerns so it is common to show high grade of stress, substance use, violence, and depression. The effectiveness of some interventions has been strongly established, although more researches are needed to improve the range of affordable and feasible interventions. The shortage of educational and fiscal policies and the fairly low attention to this subject is the main challenge addressing mental-health needs. Therefore, universal or early intervention programs are needed to develop protective factors by increasing competence or skills, to reduce existing negative behaviors. Moreover child discipline problems can be reduced by school multicomponent intervention strategies and as a result promotion in student’s achievement becomes evident.

Background: Intrauterine Device (IUD) is an effective and long term method of contraception that can be used without continued effort by the user to prevent pregnancy perfectly. Pain during IUD insertion is one of the obstacles to properly using the device. Thus, using different methods of analgesia and anesthesia to alleviate this pain has been studied by many researchers. This review article also aimed to assess different methods of analgesia and anesthesia to achieve a comprehensive result regarding the issue. The present study was a review of more than 50 articles on the methods of analgesia during IUD insertion. The articles are available in PubMed, Elsevier, and Google scholar databases. Unfortunately, no acceptable and ideal way has been found for reducing pain during IUD insertion. Although para-cervical block showed satisfactory results, more studies and clinical trials are required to be conducted in this area.

Introduction: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of high-fiber diet on sexual hormones in obese and overweight female adolescents. Methods: This randomized crossover clinical trial was conducted among 56 obese or overweight girls in Shiraz, Iran. All subjects were randomly divided into two groups. A list containing high (25 g/day green leafy vegetables or fresh fruits) and low fiber diets were prepared for case and control groups, respectively. Each group consumed their special diet for two months. After a month of cleanup period, the intended diet was replaced between the two groups. Blood sample of participants were taken in third to fifth day of the spontaneous menstrual cycle. After the end of each step, the serum levels of SHBG, DHEA, estradiol and testosterone were measured. Data was analyzed by SPSS (V.19) using paired International Electronic Journal of Medicine (IEJM) June 2014, Volume 3, Issue 1, Pages: 3-11 ISSN: 2251-8304 www.iejm.net sample t-test and independent t-test. Significant level was considered below 0.05 IRCT ID 2012120811699N1. Results: The results showed that high-fiber diet significantly reduced the serum levels of testosterone, estradiol, and DHEA compared to low fiber diet (P = 0.0001). Nevertheless, the changes of SHBG level were not significant between the two diets (P > 0.05). Conclusions: This study demonstrated that the use of high-fiber diet can decrease the sex hormones in adolescent girls. Consuming a high fiber diet is recommended for obese and overweight patients.

Introduction: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of high fiber diet on lipid profile of obese adolescent girls. Methods: This randomized cross over clinical trial was conducted in southern Iran. A total of 56 patients were randomly assigned into two groups. In the first phase, the experiment group had a high fiber diet while the control group consumed their usual diet for 2 months. Then, both groups returned to their usual diet for a month (clean phase) and after that, the diet was replaced for 2 months again (third phase). Serum LDL, HDL, TG and cholesterol were assessed before the intervention, after first phase, clean phase and third phase. Results: The mean reduction of cholesterol, TG, LDL and HDL were significantly lower in high fiber regimens compared to common diet. Conclusion: The results showed that high fiber dietary can significantly reduce lipid profile of obese patients. Consumption of high fiber diet is recommended in order to reduce the adverse effects of obesity.

Background: Hysterosalpingography is a vital diagnostic method for identifying anatomical causes of infertility, often used as a cost-effective screening test. This study aimed to investigate hysterosalpingography results in infertile women.Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, and analytic cross-sectional study was conducted on 180 infertile couples referred to Ghadir Maternal and Child Hospital in Shiraz, Iran between February and July 2015-2016. Data were collected from patient records and hysterosalpingography findings. A questionnaire encompassing demographic information and hysterosalpingography results was utilized. Qualitative and quantitative variables were described using frequency and mean± standard deviation. Data were analyzed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Chi-square, and generalized linear models via IBM SPSS version 22.Results: Hysterosalpingography (HSG) revealed that 145 women (80.6%) exhibited normal uterine and tubal findings, while 35 women (19.4%) displayed abnormal results (classified as normal and abnormal HSG findings). Women with abnormal hysterosalpingography were observed to have a higher likelihood of primary infertility (OR=3.8, 95%CI (1.427-10.10), P=0.008). Furthermore, the study assessed the impact of Body Mass Index (BMI) and identified that women in the abnormal HSG group had a higher body mass index (OR=0.89, 95%CI (0.794-0.992), P=0.035).Conclusions: Tubal adhesion stemming from undiagnosed and untreated sexual infections can lead to primary infertility. Limited resources may hinder timely detection and treatment access, exacerbating the issue. The correlation between obesity and infertility could be attributed to an unhealthy lifestyle in low-income families. Encouraging health education within low to middle-income communities is recommended to prevent sexually transmitted infections and promote healthier lifestyles, ultimately reducing the incidence of primary infertility.

Background and Aim: The prevalence of cancer in women under 50 years of age has been increased in recent years. Cancer treatment methods can lead to infertility in women with cancer. Fertility and childbearing, as the most important conflicts in the life of women with breast cancer, significantly affect their quality of life. Materials and Methods: This research is a qualitative study of content analysis type. Purposeful sampling and semi-structured individual interviews were performed for data collection. The participants were women with breast cancer referred to the Breast Disease Research Center of Shahid Motahari Clinic in Shiraz. The data were saturated after 15 interviews. To assess the validity and reliability, we used the four criteria provided by Lincoln and Guba. The conventional qualitative data analysis and MAXQDA10 software were used to analyze the qualitative data. Results: Explaining the conflicts which women with breast cancer are faced has led to the extraction of four main categories: (1) paradox of decision-making to childbearing, (2) fear, (3) sinister emotions, and (4) challenges. The results showed that the paradox of decision-making on childbearing is the most important challenge with which the patients with breast cancer are faced, causing a state of fear, anxiety, and the emergence of sinister emotions in them. Conclusion: It seems that paying more attention to preserving reproductive capacity before starting the treatment plays an important role in solving the biggest conflict in the life of breast cancer patients.

Introduction and Aim: Researchers and specialists believe that health maintenance and improvement through university students, as a part of society, play a crucial role in community configuration which should not be ignored. Since there was a few studies in these fields, researchers have sought to explore how mentioned workshops is related to cognitive emotion regulation, anxiety, depression, and sleep quality for the student volunteers of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: In a randomized controlled trial, 152 students were allocated into the 3 equal groups (study1: “perseverance workshop” study2:”sleep and wakefulness workshop” and control group). Data collection instruments were the Granovsky cognitive emotion regulation scale, the Beck depression and anxiety inventories and Pittsburgh sleep Quality Index (PSQI-P) Questionnaire. Results: The results of comparing the anxiety and depression between groups showed that there was a decreasing and significant trend in the two intervention groups, before and after the two workshops (P < 0.001). For PSQ analysis, within-group comparisons in those who have participated sleep and wakefulness workshop showed that the change trend was significant and in linear form. In addition, to compare those who have participated in perseverance workshop with the control group, there was a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results in the Cognitive Emotion Regulation subgroups. Conclusion: It can be said that the implementation of the workshops could improve the emotional state of the participants in comparison to the control group.
