8. Oxidative Desulfurization of Benzothiophene by Persulfate and Cu-Loaded g-C3N4via the Polymerization Pathway

Abstract

Turning aromatic sulfur impurities to value-added polymers is a promising technology for fuel desulfurization. In this study, Cu(I,II)@g-C3N4plates prepared via facile calcination show high reactivity in catalytic oxidation of benzothiophene (BT) by persulfate in a mixture of MeCN/H2O (v/v = 50/50). Quenching experiments rule out the primary contributions of SO4•–, •OH, and O2•–to BT oxidation and confirm the presence of carbon-centered radicals during the desulfurization process. XPS and Raman analyses reveal that Cu(I) and graphitic-Nare reactive sites for persulfate activation, accompanied with moderate activation of the peroxo group in persulfate via the nonradical pathway. Solid characterizations indicate the formation of polybenzothiophene S,S-dioxide during the oxidation process, which further reveals that the moderately activated persulfate abstracts H from BT to form a BT radical cation, followed by subsequent polymerization of BT radical cations to a BT tetramer, and then the BT tetramer is further oxidized to a BT S,S-dioxide tetramer. The high electrochemical stability and pseudo-capacitive properties of the obtained polymers also imply their high potential to be used for capacitors. This work provides new insight on turning aromatic sulfur impurities in fuels to “treasures”.

Abstract

In order to identify vehicle driving cycle by monocular camera and then offer automotive active safety systems such as ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) system, accurate condition identification signal, a difference screening method based on haar feature is put forward to identify the vehicle and a method based on coordinate mapping is improved to eliminate the impact that the changes of pitch angle make on the accuracy of positioning the vehicle, then combine with Karman filter technology to track vehicles. Finally, the studied method is used to track the vehicle in an actual video and the test results show that the method can correctly identify the image of vehicle, and accurately track the spatial position of vehicle. As a result, the studied method can be used to offer an active safety system like ACC accurate condition identification signal.

Abstract

Occupant restraint system design is very important for passenger vehicles to improve passive safety performance. In this paper, an optimisation approach using MADYMO simulation is put forward for occupant restraint system design. Based on multi-body dynamics theory and the finite element method, an occupant restraint system model is built for the driver protection in a mini-bus subject to frontal impact. The model validation is also considered against the full size impact test. Then, a new parameter optimisation approach, called the three-step optimisation method, is proposed and applied to the model established. Simulations are conducted to investigate the system performance. The results indicate significant safety performance improvements for the mini-bus occupant restraint system.

Abstract

A mathematical occupant restraint model of a PR China-made mini-bus was established by using MADYMO software. The validity of the MADYMO model was evaluated against the head and chest responses from a crash test performed in accordance with the Chinese frontal impact regulation - CMVDR294. In this paper, the collapse load, stroke distance and mount angle of an energy absorbing steering system (EASS) were analysed and optimised in order to reduce the head and chest injury values of the occupant. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the EASS was analysed at different impact velocities. Robustness of the design with different configurations was also investigated using stochastic simulation.

28. Fast and sensitive ultraviolet spectrum detection based on 32-anode photomultiplier tube array

Abstract

In view of low sensitivity of CCD arrays in the ultraviolet range, a new measuring method for ultraviolet spectrum with a 32-anode linear photomultiplier tube (PMT) array is presented. A spectrum measurement system that includes a spectroscopic design and data acquisition circuits, together with the system-controlling software, has been developed for the PMT array. Compared with a spectrometer which employs a back-thinned CCD with the highest ultraviolet sensitivity, experiments indicate that the system has the same sensitivity as the spectrometer which works at the integration time of about 2 s, while requiring less than 7 ms for one single measurement. It is able to perform timeresolved measurements even in weak light applications where CCD spectrometers need to work at long integration times.

Abstract

ABSTRACTAdenovirus E1A proteins influence cell growth and phenotype through physical interactions with cellular proteins that regulate basic processes such as cell cycle progression, DNA synthesis, and differentiation. p120E4Fis a low-abundance cellular transcription factor that represses the adenovirus E4 promoter and is regulated by E1A, through a phosphorylation-induced reduction of its DNA binding activity, to permit activation of the E4 promoter during early infection. To determine the normal biological role of p120E4F, we assessed its ability to influence fibroblast cell growth and transformation. p120E4Fsuppressed NIH 3T3 fibroblast colony formation but had little effect when coexpressed with E1A and/or activated ras. Cells that overexpressed p120E4Fwere inhibited in their ability to enter S phase, had elevated levels of the cdk inhibitor p21WAF1, and reduced cyclin D-cdk4/6 kinase activity. The increase of p21WAF1levels occurred through a p53-independent posttranscriptional mechanism that included a three- to fourfold increase in the half-life of p21WAF1protein. Coexpression of activatedraswith p120E4Fstimulated cyclin D1 expression, elevated cyclin D-cdk4/6 kinase activity, and accelerated cell growth. These data suggest an important role for p120E4Fin normal cell division and demonstrate that p21WAF1can be regulated by protein turnover.

30. The Prognostic Biomarker RAB7A Promotes Growth and Metastasis of Liver Cancer Cells by Regulating Glycolysis and YAP1 Activation.

Abstract

Activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6) and its downstream genes are involved in progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Herein, we demonstrated that sulfhydration of Ras-related protein Rab-7a (RAB7A) was regulated by ATF6. High expression of RAB7A indicated poor prognosis of HCC patients. RAB7A overexpression contributed to proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion of HepG2 and Hep3B cells. Furthermore, we found that RAB7A enhanced aerobic glycolysis in HepG2 cells, indicating a higher degree of tumor malignancy. Mechanistically, RAB7A suppressed Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1) binding to 14-3-3 and conduced to YAP1 nuclear translocation and activation, promoting its downstream gene expression, thereby promoting growth and metastasis of liver cancer cells. In addition, knocking down RAB7A attenuated the progression of orthotopic liver tumors in mice. These findings illustrate the important role of RAB7A in regulating HCC progression. Thus, RAB7A may be a potential innovative target for HCC treatment., (© 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)
