Providing appropriate feedback is important when learning to program. However, it is still unclear how different feedback strategies affect learning outcomes in programming. This study designed four different two-step programming feedback strategies and explored their impact on novice programmers' academic achievement, learning motivations, and self-efficacy. A quasi-experimental study was conducted for four classes of freshmen (261 students, average age = 19) in computer science over six weeks. The students received four different feedback strategies including "programming template and correct code without comments", "programming template and correct code with comments", "flowchart and correct code without comments", and "flowchart and correct code with comments" during their C language programming course. The results showed that none of the feedback strategies can promote novice programmers' learning motivations and self-efficacy, but using "programming template and correct code without comments" can improve academic achievement of these novice programmers. Further analysis of students' reflection demonstrated that providing "programming template and correct code without comments" had advantage in helping students interpret code, thereby guiding the students to think comprehensively and face challenges positively, as well as promoting student success when learning to program.

Previous research in alphabetic languages has shown that both position (external, internal) and distance (adjacent, nonadjacent) modulate letter position encoding during reading. To examine the generality of this pattern for a comprehensive model of word recognition and reading, we examined these effects during Chinese reading (i.e., an unspaced logographic language). Participants in two experiments read intact sentences and sentences containing transposed-character nonwords while their eye movements were monitored. Experiment 1 manipulated the distance between the transposed characters (adjacent vs. nonadjacent) within three-character words. Reading times were longer when nonadjacent characters were transposed compared with adjacent characters. Also, for adjacent character transpositions, a word-beginning character transposition led to longer reading times than a word-ending character transposition. Experiment 2 manipulated orthogonally character transposition distance (adjacent vs. nonadjacent) and position within four-character words, including the beginning versus the last character. Reading times were longer when the transposition involves the first character than when involves the ending character. Fixation durations on the target regions in the nonadjacent character transposition condition were longer than those in the adjacent character transposition condition. Taken together, these results reveal robust effects of both the initial character position and transposed-character distance in Chinese reading. Thus, the privileged status of the initial character is intrinsically related to how we access lexical information.

Objective To investigate the effect of MDM2 inhibitor RG-7388 on the proliferation, cell cycle, and apoptosis of diffuse large B-lymphoma (DLBCL) cells. Methods DLBCL cell strains SUDHL2 and HBL1 were treated with 2, 4, and 8 μmol/LRG7388, respectively. Cell proliferation was detected by CCK8 and EdU methods. Apoptosis was measured by Annexin V–FITC/PI double staining and Caspase 3/7-Glo enzyme activity methods. Cell cycle was assessed by flow cytometry. Changes in the expression of cell cycle and apoptosis-related proteins were determined by Western blot. Results The IC50 of RG7388 for inhibiting SUDHL2 and HBL1 cells were 3.36 and 3.76 μmol/L, respectively, and the inhibitory effect of RG7388 was dose dependent. In the present article, we report two eye-tracking experiments on how Chinese readers segment incremental words while reading Chinese. Incremental words are multicharacter words containing a subset of characters that constitute another word (referred to as the "embedded word"). For example, in a word containing three characters ABC (e.g., "[Chinese characters omitted]," meaning landlady), the first two characters AB ("[Chinese characters omitted]," meaning boss) constitute an embedded word. In the two experiments, Chinese readers read sentences with 3-character incremental words. In Experiment 1, the incremental words were always plausible, and the verbs prior to the target words were manipulated so that the embedded word of the incremental word was either plausible or implausible as an independent word. The eye-movement data showed that the plausibility manipulation did not influence the reading times on the incremental words nor their embedded words. In Experiment 2, we manipulated the plausibility of both incremental and embedded words. No plausibility effect of the embedded word was observed when the incremental words were plausible. However, the plausibility effect of the embedded word was obtained when the incremental words were implausible. These results suggest that Chinese readers tend to segment and integrate incremental words as a whole unit when they are plausible. However, when incremental words are implausible, the embedded words are segmented as independent words.

In this paper, an end-to-end system framework is proposed for the Digital Twin study of spaceborne ATI-SAR ocean current velocity inversion. Within this framework, a fitting inversion approach is proposed to enhance the conventional spaceborne ATI-SAR ocean current velocity inversion algorithm. Consequently, the issue of possible local inversion errors stemming from the mismatch between the traditional spaceborne ATI-SAR inversion algorithm and various dual-antenna configurations is resolved to a certain extent. A simulated spaceborne ATI-SAR system, featuring a dual-antenna configuration comprising a baseline direction perpendicular to the track and a squint angle, is presented to validate the efficacy of the Digital Twin methodology. Under the specified simulation parameters, the average inversion error for the final ocean current velocity is recorded at 0.0084 m/s, showcasing a reduction of 0.0401 m/s compared with the average inversion error prior to optimization. An asymmetrical wound dressing functions akin to human skin by serving as a protective barrier between a wound and its immediate environment. However, significant challenges persist concerning the robust adhesion and asymmetrical adhesion properties of hydrogels, particularly when applied in emergency hemostasis and wound healing contexts. Herein, the study has successfully synthesized hydrogel patches with Janus asymmetric‐adhesion, denoted as HGO‐C, exclusively comprised of natural polymers. This achievement is realized through the assembly of adhesive hydrogel (HGO) and non‐adhesive hydrogel (CGC), thereby amalgamating their distinct functionalities. The non‐adhesive hydrogel component served as a physical shield and safeguarding the wound against contamination, while the adhesive hydrogel, when in contacted with the wound surface, firmly adhered to it, swiftly arresting bleeding and facilitating wound healing. Cytocompatibility tests, hemolysis tests, antibacterial assays, and coagulation assays demonstrated excellent biocompatibility, antibacterial, and hemostatic properties of HGO‐C. Finally, the in vivo experiments, including a liver hemorrhage assay and a wound healing assay, unequivocally showed the rapid hemostatic and enhanced wound healing capabilities of HGO‐C. Consequently, these distinctive hydrogel patches, derived from natural polymers and characterized by their asymmetric adhesion properties, may have great potential for real‐life usage in clinical patients. Low-value care is associated with increased healthcare costs and direct harm to patients. We sought to develop and validate a simple diagnostic intensity index (DII) to quantify hospital-level diagnostic intensity, defined by the prevalence of advanced imaging among patients with selected clinical diagnoses that may not require imaging, and to describe hospital characteristics associated with high diagnostic intensity. We utilized State Inpatient Database data for inpatient hospitalizations with one or more pre-defined discharge diagnoses at acute care hospitals. We measured receipt of advanced imaging for an associated diagnosis. Candidate metrics were defined by the proportion of inpatients at a hospital with a given diagnosis who underwent associated imaging. Candidate metrics exhibiting temporal stability and internal consistency were included in the final DII. Hospitals were stratified according to the DII, and the relationship between hospital characteristics and DII score was described. Multilevel regression was used to externally validate the index using pre-specified Medicare county-level cost measures, a Dartmouth Atlas measure, and a previously developed hospital-level utilization index. This novel DII, comprised of eight metrics, correlated in a dose-dependent fashion with four of these five measures. The strongest relationship was with imaging costs (odds ratio of 3.41 of being in a higher DII tertile when comparing tertiles three and one of imaging costs (95 % CI 2.02–5.75)). A small set of medical conditions and related imaging can be used to draw meaningful inferences more broadly on hospital diagnostic intensity. In real-world applications, feature selection is crucial for enhancing the performance of data science and machine learning models. Typically, feature selection is a complex combinatorial optimization problem and a multi-objective optimization problem. Its primary goals are to reduce the dimensionality of the dataset and enhance the performance of machine learning algorithms. The selection of features in high-dimensional datasets is challenging due to the intricate relationships between features, which pose significant challenges to the performance and computational efficiency of algorithms. This paper introduces a Knowledge-Guided Competitive Co-Evolutionary Algorithm (KCCEA) for feature selection, especially for high-dimensional features. In the proposed algorithm, we make improvements to the foundational dominance-based multi-objective evolutionary algorithm in two aspects. First, the use of feature correlation as knowledge to guide evolution enhances the search speed and quality of traditional multi-objective evolutionary algorithm solutions. Second, a dynamically allocated competitive–cooperative evolutionary mechanism is proposed, integrating the improved knowledge-guided evolution with traditional evolutionary algorithms, further enhancing the search efficiency and diversity of solutions. Through rigorous empirical testing on various datasets, the KCCEA demonstrates superior performance compared to basic multi-objective evolutionary algorithms, providing effective solutions to multi-objective feature selection problems while enhancing the interpretability and effectiveness of prediction models. In the current study, we report two eye movement experiments investigating how Chinese readers process incremental words during reading. These are words where some of the component characters constitute another word (an embedded word). In two experiments, eye movements were monitored while the participants read sentences with incremental words whose first two characters (Experiment 1) or last two characters (Experiment 2) constituted a word (referred to respectively as "head-embedded" and "tail embedded"). Reading times on these words were longer when the frequencies of the embedded words were lower. However, this was only seen on first fixation duration for head-embedded words. These results suggest that embedded words are activated when Chinese readers process incremental words, and that this activation is earlier for a head-embedded word than for a tail-embedded word. These results support a hierarchical model which assumes that the representation for whole word is activated via the representation of its constituent morphemes.

Background: M-type phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) is a major auto-antigen of primary membranous nephropathy(PMN). Anti-PLA2R antibody levels are closely associated with disease severity and therapeutic effectiveness. Analysis of PLA2R antigen epitope reactivity may have a greater predictive value for remission compared with total PLA2R-antibody level. This study aims to elucidate the relationship between domain-specific antibody levels and clinical outcomes of PMN. Methods: This retrospective analysis included 87 patients with PLA2R-associated PMN. Among them, 40 and 47 were treated with rituximab (RTX) and cyclophosphamide (CTX) regimen, respectively. The quantitative detection of -immunoglobulin G (IgG)/-IgG4 targeting PLA2R and its epitope levels in the serum of patients with PMN were obtained through time-resolved fluorescence immunoassays and served as biomarkers in evaluating the treatment effectiveness. A predictive PMN remission possibility nomogram was developed using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Discrimination in the prediction model was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC).Bootstrap ROC was used to evaluate the performance of the prediction model. Results: After a 6-month treatment period, the remission rates of proteinuria, including complete remission and partial remission in the RTX and CTX groups, were 70% and 70.21% (P = 0.983), respectively. However, there was a significant difference in immunological remission in the PLA2R-IgG4 between the RTX and CTX groups (21.43% vs. 61.90%, P = 0.019). Furthermore, we found differences in PLA2R-CysR-IgG4(P = 0.030), PLA2R-CTLD1-IgG4(P = 0.005), PLA2R-CTLD678-IgG4(P = 0.003), and epitope spreading (P = 0.023) between responders and non-responders in the CTX group. Multivariate logistic analysis showed that higher levels of urinary protein (odds ratio [OR], 0.49; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.26–0.95; P = 0.035) and higher levels of PLA2R-CTLD1-IgG4 (OR, 0.79; 95%CI,0.62–0.99; P = 0.041) were independent risk factors for early remission. A multivariate model for estimating the possibility of early remission in patients with PMN is presented as a nomogram. The AUC-ROC of our model was 0.721 (95%CI, 0.601–0.840), in consistency with the results obtained with internal validation, for which the AUC-ROC was 0.711 (95%CI, 0.587–0.824), thus, demonstrating robustness. Conclusions: Cyclophosphamide can induce immunological remission earlier than rituximab at the span of 6 months. The PLA2R-CTLD1-IgG4 has a better predict value than total PLA2R-IgG for remission of proteinuria at the 6th month. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Various forms of malignancies have been linked to Helicobacter pylori. Despite advancements in chemotherapeutic and surgical approaches, the management of cancer, particularly at advanced stages, increasingly relies on the integration of immunotherapy. As a novel, safe therapeutic modality, immunotherapy harnesses the immune system of the patient to treat cancer, thereby broadening treatment options. However, there is evidence that H. pylori infection may influence the effectiveness of immunotherapy in various types of cancer. This association is related to H. pylori virulence factors and the tumor microenvironment. This review discusses the influence of H. pylori infection on immunotherapy in non-gastrointestinal and gastrointestinal tumors, the mechanisms underlying this relationship, and directions for the development of improved immunotherapy strategies.
