Ketogenic diet (KD) has been proven to be an optional avenue in weight control. However, the impacts of KD on muscle strength and exercise endurance remain unclear. In this study, mice were randomly allocated to normal diet and KD groups to assess their exercise tolerance and transcriptomic changes of the gastrocnemius. KD suppressed body-weight and glucose levels and augmented blood ketone levels of mice. The total cholesterol, free fatty acids, and β-hydroxybutyric acid levels were higher and triglycerides and aspartate aminotransferase levels were lower in KD group. There was no notable difference in running distance/time and weight-bearing swimming time between the two groups. Furthermore, KD alleviated the protein levels of PGC-1α, p62, TnI FS, p-AMPKα, and p-Smad3, while advancing the LC3 II and TnI SS protein levels in the gastrocnemius tissues. RNA-sequencing found that 387 differentially expressed genes were filtered, and Cpt1b, Acadl, Eci2, Mlycd, Pdk4, Ptprc, C1qa, Emr1, Fcgr3, and Ctss were considered to be the hub genes. Our findings suggest that KD effectively reduced body weight but did not affect skeletal muscle strength and exercise endurance via AMPK/PGC-1α, Smad3, and p62/LC3 signaling pathways and these hub genes could be potential targets for muscle function in KD-treated mice.

Bacteria are the causative agents of various infectious diseases; however, the anti‐tumor effect of some bacterial species has attracted the attention of many scientists. The human oral cavity is inhabited by abundant and diverse bacterial communities and some of these bacterial communities could play a role in tumor suppression. Therefore, it is crucial to find oral bacterial species that show anti‐tumor activity on oral cancers. In the present study, we found that a high abundance of Porphyromonas gingivalis, an anaerobic periodontal pathogen, in the tumor microenvironment (TME) was positively associated with the longer survival of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). An in vitro assay confirmed that P. gingivalis accelerated the death of OSCC cells by inducing cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase, thus exerting its anti‐tumor effect. We also found that P. gingivalis significantly decreased tumor growth in a 4‐nitroquinoline‐1‐oxide‐induced in situ OSCC mouse model. The transcriptomics data demonstrated that P. gingivalis suppressed the biosynthesis of mucin O‐glycan and other O‐glycans, as well as the expression of chemokines. Validation experiments further confirmed the downregulation of mucin‐1 (MUC1) and C‐X‐C motif chemokine 17 (CXCL17) expression by P. gingivalis treatment. Flow cytometry analysis showed that P. gingivalis successfully reversed the immunosuppressive TME, thereby suppressing OSCC growth. Energy management strategies for hydrogen fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles (FCHEVs) are a key factor in achieving real-time vehicle energy optimization control, vehicle driving economy, and fuel cell durability. In this paper, for an FCHEV equipped with a fuel cell and supercapacitor, the quantitative information, logic rules, and operational constraints are transformed into linear integer inequalities according to its different operating modes, and the Hysdel language is used to establish its mixed logic dynamic model (MLD). Then, the energy management strategy based on model predictive control (MPC) is developed using the MLD model as the prediction model and the equivalent hydrogen consumption and the performance degradation of the fuel cell as the optimization performance indexes. Finally, under the World Light Vehicle Test Cycle, a joint simulation was carried out with Advisor and Simulink to verify the proposed strategy's superiority by comparing it with the power following control strategy (PFCS) and the compound fuzzy control strategy (CFCS). The results show that the strategy not only ensures real-time FCHEV energy control, but also reduces hydrogen consumption by 10.98% and 1.98% and the number of start/stop times of a fuel cell by six and four, compared to PFCS and CFCS, respectively, which improves the economy of the whole vehicle as well as the durability of the fuel cell. Objectives: Our study elucidates the prognostic role of cluster of differentiation (CD) 24 expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and determines whether targeting CD24 enhances the anti‐tumor immune response by inhibiting tumor‐associated macrophages (TAMs). Materials and Methods: The expression of CD24 and CD68 was analyzed immunohistochemically via tissue microarrays constructed using 56 cohorts of patients with OSCC and 20 control specimens. Further, CD24 was inhibited in an allograft squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) related mouse model with CD24mAb to determine the tumor volume and weight. Changes in immune cells such as TAMs and T cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) were analyzed by Flow cytometry. The expression of CD4, CD8, and Ki67 was analyzed via immunohistochemistry. The inhibition of CD24 was confirmed by Western blot and immunohistochemistry. Results: CD24 was overexpressed in OSCC. High expression of CD24 indicated poor survival in patients with OSCC (p = 0.0334). CD24 expression was significantly correlated with CD68 (p = 0.0424). The inhibition of CD24 delayed tumor growth in vivo. A decrease in TAMs number and an increase in T cell number were confirmed, while the ability of tumor proliferation was impaired. Arabidopsis PHYTOALEXIN DEFICIENT 4 (PAD4) has an essential role in pathogen resistance as a heterodimer with ENHANCED DISEASE SUSCEPTIBILITY 1 (EDS1). Here we investigated an additional PAD4 role in which it associates with and promotes the maturation of the immune-related cysteine protease RESPONSIVE TO DEHYDRATION 19 (RD19). We found that RD19 and its paralog RD19c promoted EDS1- and PAD4-mediated effector-triggered immunity to an avirulent Pseudomonas syringae strain, DC3000, expressing the effector AvrRps4 and basal immunity against the fungal pathogen Golovinomyces cichoracearum. Overexpression of RD19, but not RD19 protease-inactive catalytic mutants, in Arabidopsis transgenic lines caused EDS1- and PAD4-dependent autoimmunity and enhanced pathogen resistance. In these lines, RD19 maturation to a pro-form required its catalytic residues, suggesting that RD19 undergoes auto-processing. In transient assays, PAD4 interacted preferentially with the RD19 pro-protease and promoted its nuclear accumulation in leaf cells. Our results lead us to propose a model for PAD4-stimulated defense potentiation. PAD4 promotes maturation and nuclear accumulation of processed RD19, and RD19 then stimulates EDS1–PAD4 dimer activity to confer pathogen resistance. This study highlights potentially important additional PAD4 functions that eventually converge on canonical EDS1–PAD4 dimer signaling in plant immunity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As the parent compound of a promising solid electrolyte material Li3xLa2/3−xTiO3, the perovskite La2/3TiO3 has potential for advancing research on Li-intercalated ionic conductors. Epitaxial La2/3TiO3 films have been grown by molecular beam epitaxy using a growth process consisting of deposition and annealing cycles, with in situ monitoring by electron diffraction. X-ray absorption spectroscopy confirms the tetravalent state of Ti in La2/3TiO3, and the as-grown films are insulating. X-ray diffraction reveals the presence of half-order peaks, indicating a doubling of the pseudocubic perovskite unit cell due to the ordering of La vacancies in alternating A-site layers. These results demonstrate that single-phase, vacancy-ordered epitaxial films of La2/3TiO3 can be stabilized with excellent crystalline and electronic properties over wafer-sized areas, making possible Li-ion intercalation studies in films with well-defined domain boundary properties. Such boundaries are known to profoundly influence Li-ion conduction within the material. Understanding the effects of domain boundaries on Li-ion conduction could lead to improvements in solid-state battery technology and pave the way for the development of more efficient and safer energy storage devices. Oral disease, as a class of diseases with very high morbidity, brings great physical and mental damage to people worldwide. The increasing burden and strain on individuals and society make oral diseases an urgent global health problem. Since the treatment of almost all oral diseases relies on materials, the rapid development of advanced materials and technologies has also promoted innovations in the treatment methods and strategies of oral diseases. In this review, we systematically summarized the application strategies in advanced materials and technologies for oral diseases according to the etiology of the diseases and the comparison of new and old materials. Finally, the challenges and directions of future development for advanced materials and technologies in the treatment of oral diseases were refined.
