- Abstract
Purpose. The purpose of the paper is to present the development of the project From Library to Graduation during five years, from its implementation in 2013 until 2018, pointing to the importance of library programs and services aimed at satisfying and developing educational, cultural and informational needs and interests of high school students. Methodology. The introduction includes the project design and launch incentives as well as the theoretical framework, which served as guidelines for project development. It is followed by the chronological overview of the project, from the description of the pilot project to the results of the survey conducted on the students and associates after its completion in 2013. At the end of the paper, the examples of the programs within the project are described and the final considerations are listed. Results. The results of the conducted survey have shown that there is a great interest for the project From Library to Graduation. The project has developed and changed according to the expressed needs and interests of high school students, and the programs were realized in cooperation with other individuals and institutions from the fields of education and culture. Practical implications. The project From Library to Graduation is an example of good practice, which can be implemented in other libraries in order to collaborate with other cultural and educational institutions for the benefit of young people and their lifelong learning. Social implications. Since the participants of the project are mostly the students from the high school dorms in Zagreb, the goal has been to inform them about the city's cultural events, to improve their knowledge of the city and to develop a greater sense of their belonging to the local community in which they reside during their schooling. All project participants are encouraged to use library services for the purpose of better education, better quality of leisure time, reading and expanding their interests. Originality. The originality of this work is reflected in the fact that it is the first presentation of a five-year practice of the project From Library to Graduation. The project is designed for high school students and carried out in order to meet the educational, cultural and informational needs of young people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Postojeći mehanizmi obrazovne politike kojima se nastoji adresirati nepovoljniji položaj učenika strukovnih škola su nedostatni za ujednačavanje mogućnosti učenika iz različitih srednjoškolskih programa., The paper presents the results of a qualitative exploratory study of secondary school principals’ perspectives on the State Matura model, and the issues of equality and equity of access to higher education for vocational and grammar school pupils. These questions are analysed in the context of increasing aspirations of young people towards higher education, the massification of higher education, and the strategic positioning of the Republic of Croatia towards increasing the share of highly educated citizens. Equality of access to higher education implies that all pupils who wish to study have the right to access the State Matura, a prerequisite for entering tertiary education, under equal conditions and criteria. The issue of equity means that every pupil has an equal opportunity to access tertiary education. The results point to generally positive attitudes regarding the State Matura as a uniform system of external exams that enables assessment of the acquired knowledge and skills in the same manner and using the same criteria for all pupils. Principals’ critical perspectives include questioning the suitability of the certification function of the State Matura for grammar school pupils and the weakening of the selective function due to additional testing of pupils’ knowledge and skills by tertiary education institutions. The perspectives of grammar school and vocational school principals on equality and equity of access to tertiary education are distinctly different. While grammar school principals view equity through the prism of providing equal conditions and criteria for all, vocational school principals recognise that the lack of equity arises from a different educational experience and the scope of what is taught in vocational programmes. Existing educational policy mechanisms aimed at addressing the less favourable status of vocational school pupils are insufficient to equalise the opportunities of pupils from various secondary school programmes.

GEOGRAPHY education in elementary schools , *SCHOOL children , *ELEMENTARY school curriculum , *STUDENT attitudes , *ACADEMIC achievement - Abstract
The paper analyses the achievements in the Geography of Croatia among 8th Grade Elementary School pupils, and the final grades at comprehensive schools and four-year vocational schools. The results of the external evaluation exams were compared through the two dimensional matrix: elementary school - secondary school, 2008 - 1988. At the end of primary education, the average level of pupils' achievements on the geographical position, natural-geographic and socio-economic characteristics of the Republic of Croatia was 49.1% and 47.9% at the end of the Secondary education. The realized level of achievements that was by 1.2% lower at the end of the Secondary education is not statistically significant but, in relation to the selected sample and the expected cumulative impact of learning and teaching, the result is too low. The paper analyses results for the comprehensive completely comparable test items and confirms the notion that there is no cumulative effect, and that no progress in the level of achievements is made by using the new teaching curriculum. The paper also presents the result of researches conducted in 1988, 2003 and 2008 on pupils' opinions on Geography as a subject in Elementary school. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Također se iznose rezultati istraživanja stavova učenika o geografiji kao nastavnom predmetu u osnovnoj školi provedenih 1988., 2003. i 2008., The paper analyses the achievements in the Geography of Croatia among 8th Grade Elementary School pupils, and the final grades at comprehensive schools and four-year vocational schools.
