The study assesses the determinants of the financial stability of the Czech commercial insurance companies within the period 2004-2019. The eight macroeconomic determinants of the financial stability of insurance are analysed for both insurers, i.e., with predominated life and non-life insurance. The generalized method of moments is used for empirical analysis. The results show four macroeconomic variables were statistically significant determinants of financial stability in the case of non-life insurers and three determinants influenced the financial stability of life insurers. The study concludes that the determinants of the financial stability of non-life insurers were different that in the case of life insurers. Moreover, the impact of several determinants is also different in case life and non-life insurers in the Czech Republic.

The present work is an attempt to examine the macro-prudential measures with capital flows, exchange rate, stock prices and GDP of Asian emerging economies. This research is the extension of the developing the early warning signal as Financial Stability Index by Kaur and Gupta (in Conference proceedings in global trends in business & sustainability research, IIT Rourkee, 2017). The study acknowledges the importance of macro-prudential policy intervention for bringing in financial stability in the system. By synthesizing and visualizing information based on the past performance (using panel regression), it can be stated that this paper may be used to facilitate strategic decision-making at the policy level (government) of emerging economies and ensure building up of financial stability framework. This study aims to develop a financial stability index for the Pakistani financial sector by using the financial reports for the period of 2001−2011. Specifically, we constructed three different classes of indices in this study based on a variance-equal weighted approach, a linear probability approach, and a logistic approach. We also assessed the prediction accuracy of the financial stability index. All indices indicated that profitability, liquid liability to the liquid asset, non-performing loan, uncovered liabilities, interest spread and inter-fund to liquid liabilities variables contribute significantly to the determination of financial stress of commercial banks. We also compared the results of indices computed with different methodologies—among them was the index constructed by employing coefficients of the logistic model and which performed outstandingly in predicting distressed and non-distressed banks. Moreover, the findings of this study suggest that in regard to return on assets and return on equity, when employed in a stepwise manner for developing the financial stability index, the results are similar in the sense that both profitability indicators have the same behavior. Finally, we conclude that the financial stability indices developed in this study could help decision makers to detect and avoid instability in the future.
