Codes JEL : L26, M13, M31

Following an integrative re-membering in relation to the nexus of ‘self-other-things’ and an enfleshed integral being in organization Merleau-Ponty ’s concept of Flesh is presented as elemental carnality and formative medium. Furthermore, this contribution discusses implications of an enfleshed spirituality in relation to an inter-practice and inter-be(com)ing in ‘organic-izations ’.

We investigate the effects of different regulatory policies directed towards high-frequency trading (HFT) through an agent-based model of a limit order book able to generate flash crashes as the result of the interactions between low- and high-frequency (HF) traders. We analyze the impact of the imposition of minimum resting times, of circuit breakers (both ex-post and ex-ante types), of cancellation fees and of transaction taxes on asset price volatility and on the occurrence and duration of flash crashes. In the model, low- frequency agents adopt trading rules based on chronological time and can switch between fundamentalist and chartist strategies. In contrast, high-frequency traders activation is event-driven and depends on price fluctuations. In addition, high-frequency traders employ low-latency directional strategies that exploit market information and they can cancel their orders depending on expected profits. Monte-Carlo simulations reveal that reducing HF order cancellation, via minimum resting times or cancellation fees, or discouraging HFT via financial transaction taxes, reduces market volatility and the frequency of flash crashes. However, these policies also imply a longer duration of flash crashes. Furthermore, the introduction of an ex-ante circuit breaker markedly reduces price volatility and removes flash crashes. In contrast, ex-post circuit breakers do not affect market volatility and they increase the duration of flash crashes. Our results show that HFT-targeted policies face a trade-off between market stability and resilience. Policies that reduce volatility and the incidence of flash crashes also imply a reduced ability of the market to quickly recover from a crash. The dual role of HFT, as both a cause of the flash crash and a fundamental actor in the post-crash recovery underlies the above trade-off.

Online October 2016; International audience; Many OECD countries are reforming their pension systems. We investigate how pension eligibility affects labor supply in couples. Inspired by a theoretical framework, we measure how the sharp change in the pension eligibility of both partners affects labor force participation. We find that both partners leave the labor force as they become eligible for a pension. The effect of their own pension eligibility is 12 percentage points for women and 28 percentage points for men. Women also reduce their labor force participation by 2 to 3 percentage points as their partner reaches pension eligibility. For men, the effect of their partner's eligibility is smaller and not significantly different from zero. For women and men with low education, the effect of their own eligibility is strong. Regardless of education level, the partner eligibility effect is strong in homogamous couples. Studying joint labor supply, we find that pension eligibility reduces labor supply in couples by 44 percentage points, approximately 4 percentage points more than in a model that ignores partner eligibility effects.

International audience; As organizational success depends on the commitment of employees, supervisors inevitably attempt to influence task commitment of their subordinates in many ways. Previous research suggests that supervisor-subordinate influence tactics are culture-sensitive. With the internationalization of human resources in organizations, greater sensitivity is required to understand how the rules of the game may differ according to the national culture in question. In this study, a comparison of leadership behaviors of managers in Mexico and the United States is carried out. The results of our study indicate that the influence tactics of rational persuasion and personal appeals are more strongly correlated with task commitment in the US sample, while legitimating, pressure, and organizational appeal are more strongly associated with task commitment in the Mexican sample. The results also indicated that the quality of the supervisor and subordinate relationship, as measured by Leader-Member Exchange (LMX), plays a moderating role in the effectiveness of influence tactics used in both cultural settings to elicit task commitment. However, in the Mexican sample, LMX moderates pressure, legitimating, and organizational appeal while for the US sample, LMX moderates rational persuasion and inspirational appeal.

This study examines the effect of cultural diversity related to nationality on team performance in the North American Basketball League (NBA). Controlling for managerial capacity, the quality and the heterogeneity of players, we find that there is no significant relationship between nationality diversity and team performance. This result does not reflect positive or negative effects of the cultural diversity related to nationality as suggested by the literature (Harrison et Klein, 2007).

International audience; This book aims at providing a broad overview of topics relating to the Asset Management Industry. Even though, there exist many books about Asset Management, most of them analyse potential trading strategies, but there is not much focus on the Industrial Organization of the Asset Management Industry. This Industrial Organization and the focus on Funds as legal vehicles leads to interesting governance issues that might be more important than the risks implied by a given investment strategy. The book consists of 5 Parts: Asset Management: Theoretical Foundations, Risk Management for Funds, Structured Finance and Valuation of Financial Products, The Economics of the Mutual Fund Industry and Specific Topics relating to Alternative Investment Funds. From an academic viewpoint, the text tries to rationalize the existence of the existing business models through behavioural aspects. From a more professional viewpoint, the conclusion is that investors should put more emphasis on the analysis of incentives implicit in the different business models, rather than a focus on fashionable trading strategies. In that sense, the book can be used as a guide to develop Due Diligence approaches.

The purpose of this article consists in getting a better understanding of the status concept as a classification system. Several approaches to organizational status have been developed in the academic literature. However, its influence as it has been rarely investigated in the literature. We particularly analyze the economic (price) and social (legitimacy) advantages of organizational status. Our findings contribute to the literature on institutional and competitive pressures that organizations are facing. The results show that organizational status brings economic benefits, but not social ones.

International audience; This paper study a supply chain system composed of a machine, a purchase warehouse, a vehicle and customers that demand a random quantity of products. We assume that the customers are located in urban areas and the demands are delivered by a green vehicle. Two cases of green transport are considered: in the first case the transport is ensured by an electric vehicle and the second case by a photovoltaic vehicle. The objective of this paper is to provide a performance evaluation system that allows choosing the suitable case according to the indicators of interest such as transport costs or the maintenance costs of vehicle. To describe both cases, a discrete flow model is adopted that takes into account the machine and vehicle failures, the quantity to deliver and the vehicle maintenance actions. Both cases of the green vehicle are simulated and the total cost of the supply chain of each case is determined. Numerical results are presented to discuss the choice of the suitable case. Also an optimization study of the supply chain system in the second case is presented.
