Abstract

It has been recently proved that in the presence of a rectilinear signal of interest (SOI) and a co-channel interference (CCI), received on a single antenna, the rejection of a strong interference can be greatly improved by the use of a MMSE third-order complex Volterra filter in place of a MMSE widely linear filter (WL). This improvement is achieved by exploiting both the non-Gaussiannity and the non-circularity of the signals up to the 6th-order, rather than the second-order non-circularity exploited by the WL filters. This makes it possible, at least for BPSK signals, the exploitation of the amplitude discrimination in addition to the phase discrimination between the signals. The aim of this contribution is to examine whether these properties remain valid for second-order circular signals, ubiquitous in radiocommunications, Il a été démontré récemment qu'en présence de signaux rectilignes, respectivement utile (SOI) et interférant (CCI), captés par une seule antenne, la réjection d'une interférence forte peut être fortement améliorée par l'utilisation d'un filtre de Volterra complexe du 3ème ordre MMSE à la place d'un filtre widely linear (WL) MMSE. Cette amélioration est obtenue en exploitant à la fois la non gaussiannité et la non circularité des signaux aux ordres 2, 4 et 6 plutôt que la seule non-circularité à l'ordre 2 exploitée par les filtres WL. Cela permet, au moins pour des signaux BPSK, l'exploitation d'une discrimination d'amplitude en plus d'une discrimination de phase entre les signaux. Le but de cette contribution est d'examiner si ces propriétés restent valables pour des signaux circulaires au second-ordre, omniprésents en radiocommunications

Abstract

International audience; Widely linear (WL) receivers are able to fulfill single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) of one rectilinear (R) or quasi-rectilinear (QR) co-channel interference (CCI), a function which is operational in GSM handsets in particular. However, SAIC requires enhancements for QR signals, for both VAMOS standard, an evolution of GSM/EDGE standard, and FBMC-OQAM networks, which are candidate for 5G mobile networks. In this context, the purpose of this paper is twofold. The first one is to show that, contrary to what is accepted as true in the literature, QR signals are less efficient than R ones for conventional WL filtering in the presence of CCI. From this result and for QR signals, the second purpose is to propose a SAIC/MAIC enhancement, based on WL frequency shifted (FRESH) filtering, making QR signals almost equivalent to R ones

International audience; This paper presents a performance analysis of the single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) and the multiple antenna interference cancellation (MAIC) techniques in the presence of non null frequency offsets of both the signal of interest (SOI) and interference, that are neither corrected nor compensated, in terms of signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and bit error rate (BER). General theoretical expressions of the SINR and BER are given for BPSK SOI and interference. To obtain engineering insight, the particular case of the SAIC with no return to zero (NRZ) pulse shape filters is considered, where simple expressions are given and analyzed. It is proved in particular that the performance more deteriorates for non null frequency offset of the interference than for non null frequency offset of the SOI. Finally illustrative examples are presented in order to specify the validity domain of our approximations and to quantify the obtained results in the context of the global system for mobile communication (GSM) standard

Abstract

This paper proposes a new Frequency-Domain (FD) receiver based on Expectation Propagation (EP) for Faster-Than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling. Our system model is based on a circular convolution of the shaping filter leading to a Circular FTN (CFTN) waveform allowing a FD process at reception without cyclic prefix. We solve a Maximum A Posteriori criterion using EP combined with an original Gaussian family yielding a low-complexity FD Minimum Mean-Square Error (MMSE) equalizer combined with a Constellation Matcher in charge of realigning the symbol estimates with respect to the constellation. This new FD-EP receiver for FTN signaling is compared to RS-BCJR and M*-BCJR receivers as well as the MMSE equalizer. The proposed FD-EP receiver is shown to perform slightly better than MMSE at 1.5 bits/s/Hz, and represents a low complexity alternative compared to RS-BCJR or M*-BCJR. Furthermore, while existing receivers are not able to handle higher spectral efficiencies, our FD-EP allows FTN signaling to almost achieve its matched-filter bound at 3 bits/s/Hz with channel coding.
