This study provides a systematic literature review of creative industries using bibliometric and scientometric approaches. The objective of the study is to offer an intellectual structure for this emerging field. The study maps related networks and thematically related clusters using sophisticated visualization techniques. It also provides an understanding of the development path of the field. The paper discusses emerging research trends and relational structure among thematic areas, prominent authors, and the field's geographic concentration. The findings of the study suggest that the field is in its infancy and has been dominated by a select few authors, sources, and countries. The results of this study suggest that there are significant unexplored areas that have potential in the creative industries' research domain.

Over the two last decades, coronaviruses have affected human life in different ways, especially in terms of health and economy. Due to the profound effects of novel coronaviruses, growing tides of research are emerging in various research fields. This paper employs a co-word analysis approach to map the intellectual structure of the coronavirus literature for a better understanding of how coronavirus research and the disease itself have developed during the target timeframe. A strategic diagram has been drawn to depict the coronavirus domain’s structure and development. A detailed picture of coronavirus literature has been extracted from a huge number of papers to provide a quick overview of the coronavirus literature. The main themes of past coronavirus-related publications are (a) “Antibody- Virus Interactions,” (b) “Emerging Infectious Diseases,” (c) “Protein Structure-based Drug Design and Antiviral Drug Discovery,” (d) “Coronavirus Detection Methods,” (e) “Viral Pathogenesis and Immunity,” and (f) “Animal Coronaviruses.” The emerging infectious diseases are mostly related to fatal diseases (such as Middle East respiratory syndrome, severe acute respiratory syndrome, and COVID-19) and animal coronaviruses (including porcine, turkey, feline, canine, equine, and bovine coronaviruses and infectious bronchitis virus), which are capable of placing animal-dependent industries such as the swine and poultry industries under strong economic pressure. Although considerable research into coronavirus has been done, this unique field has not yet matured sufficiently. Therefore, “Antibody-virus Interactions,” “Emerging Infectious Diseases,” and “Coronavirus Detection Methods” hold interesting, promising research gaps to be both explored and filled in the future.

PurposeThe Journal of Intellectual Capital (JIC) celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2020. Therefore, the present study aims to provide a general overview of the history and key trends in this journal during 2000–2019.Design/methodology/approachTwo types of citation and textual data during a 20-year journal period were retrieved from the Scopus database. The citation structures and contents were explored based on a combination of bibliometric analysis, altmetric analysis and text mining. The journal themes and trends of their changes were analyzed through citation bursts, mapping and topic modeling. To make a better comparison, the text mining process for the topic modeling of the IC field was performed in addition to the topic modeling of JIC.FindingsBibliometric analysis indicated that JIC has experienced a remarkable growth in terms of the number of publications and citations over the last 20 years. The results indicated that JIC plays a significant role among IC researchers. Additionally, a large number of researchers, institutes and countries have made contributions to this journal and cited its research papers. Altmetric analysis showed that JIC has been shared in different social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Wikipedia, Mendeley, Citeulike, news and blogs. Text mining abstract of JIC articles indicated that “measurement,” “financial performance” and “IC reporting” have the relative prevalence with increasing trends over the past 20 years. In addition, “research trends” and “national and international studies” had a stable trend with low thematic share.Research limitations/implicationsThe findings have important implications for the JIC editorial team in order to make informed decisions about the further development of JIC as well as for IC researchers and practitioners to make more valuable contributions to the journal.Originality/valueUsing bibliometric analysis, altmetric analysis and text mining, this study provided a systematic and comprehensive analysis of JIC. The simultaneous use of these methods provides an interesting, unique and suitable capacity to analyze the journals by considering their various aspects.

This study presents a retrospective on Journal of International Marketing using bibliometrics. The study finds that the journal’s run has been characterized by continuous growth in publications and citations, with a dominant contribution base of authors from the United States. Authors have consistently shown a strong preference for quantitative research, with a decline in preference for qualitative research and a negligible increase in preference for mixed-methods research in recent years. The major themes in the journal include global branding, internationalization, cross-cultural marketing, and international relationship marketing. An exploration of the factors affecting article citations reveals that article attributes such as the conceptual method, empirical method, article length, title length, article age, and number of keywords play significant roles in increasing the number of citations. Authors affiliated with nonacademic institutions also have a significant and positive influence on total citations. The article concludes with directions for further research.

Over the years, Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) researchers have continued to examine foundational topics, while also expanding and adding new ones. Given that the field has changed a great deal, it seems valuable to examine the evolution of OSCM's intellectual structure over its 70 years of academic communications. Using bibliometrics methods, we analyze 96,125 articles containing 1,047,468 references from 31 representative OSCM journals. Our study defines primary topic areas represented in the most co-cited documents, while tracing past and current research trends. We include analyses of recent bursts in research attention and comparisons of trends in academic and practitioner literatures. The results from an inclusive analysis suggest that OSCM researchers have been responsive to methodological advances and to some of the dynamics in the operating environments of businesses. However, a product/manufacturing focus seems to persist, and inconsistencies between researchers’ and practitioners’ interests suggest that relevance of OSCM could be further improved. Current hot topics are quite different from those of the past. Trend data suggest that studies of supply chain management and data analytics issues will continue to figure largely in shaping the future research agenda. Our analysis quantifies trends and identifies subtopics that are growing in prominence. In addition, the findings provide a benchmark for evaluating the progress of the OSCM field, while highlighting opportunities for shaping its development and directions.

This current review of research tells a richly detailed story of the evolving intellectual structure of teacher emotion research during 35 years starting from 1985 until 2019, through identifying 812 articles and using a descriptive quantitative analysis approach. The developmental trend reveals a substantial change in the volume of publications recently, although the overall volume of research is still relatively low. Findings identify that, although quantitative methods were the most commonly used, qualitative and mixed methods of research have undergone a marked increase in the past ten years. However, as the majority of articles have been exploratory-oriented, intervention and experimental studies are largely lacking, resulting in the “so-what” story being missing. A functionalist perspective suggests that knowledge production in teacher emotion research is either at a late first stage or an emerging second stage. This effort lays a foundation on which to interpret the evolution of the teacher emotion literature.

Although Citizen Relationship Management (CiRM) has been adopted worldwide to enhance the relationship between governments and citizens, little is known about the scientific field of CiRM. This article uses a literature review to analyze the scientific field of CiRM to understand its intellectual structure and set a research agenda. We analyzed 24 articles published from 2005 to 2020, revealing that CiRM is an emergent concept in scientific literature, context-dependent, and divided into three categories: the development of integrative models; the relationship between government and citizens; and the evaluation of public services. Research on CiRM is predominantly empirical, lacking the conceptual maturity that enables contributive theoretical and empirical developments. We propose a research agenda addressing the main gaps: adoption, implementation, and efficiency of CiRM strategies, as well as the integration of such strategies in different government levels. This is the first comprehensive review about CiRM, shedding light on the knowledge of CiRM, understanding its past, and the current panorama. We contribute to the development of CiRM knowledge, guiding the researchers’ efforts in the fields of relationship between governments and citizens; CiRM adoption and implementation processes; public managerial practice; and efficiency in public service provision. Resumen Aunque el Citizen Relationship Management (CiRM) ha sido adoptado en todo el mundo para mejorar la relación entre gobiernos y ciudadanos, se sabe poco sobre el campo científico del CiRM. Este artículo reporta una revisión de la literatura con el objetivo principal de analizar el campo científico del CiRM para comprender su estructura intelectual y establecer una agenda de investigación. Analizamos 24 artículos, publicados entre 2005 y 2020, que revelan que el CiRM es un concepto emergente en la literatura científica, dependiente del contexto y dividido en tres categorías: el desarrollo de modelos integradores; la relación entre gobierno y ciudadanos; y la evaluación de los servicios públicos. La investigación sobre CiRM es predominantemente empírica y carece de una madurez conceptual que permita desarrollos teóricos y empíricos contribuyentes. Sobre esa base, proponemos una agenda de investigación que aborde las principales brechas: adopción, implementación y eficiencia de las estrategias del CiRM, además de la integración de dichas estrategias en los diferentes niveles de gobierno. Purpose This study aims to map out the ways in which the intellectual structure and research trends of scientific publications come together in business-to-business (B2B) marketing strategies in the health-care sector. More specifically, it aims first to identify the fundamental contributions of research in this area of knowledge and second to determine the lines of research that constitute the most prominent intellectual contribution to the development of a solid future research agenda. Design/methodology/approach The statistical and analytical methods include bibliometric, co-citation and cluster analysis techniques. To identify useful patterns of information within the paper, this study sought paid special attention to scholarship that was jointly cited. This study then applied hierarchical cluster analysis to the totality of the co-cited paper and then grouped the interrelated paper into distinct sets. Findings This study were able to systematically identify and classify various theoretical perspectives of B2B marketing strategies within the health-care sector into four main approaches, namely, decision-making strategies; relational marketing; co-creation; new challenges. Originality/value By systematically identifying, exploring and analyzing the key priorities of B2B marking within the health-care sector, this study contributes positively to the existing literature. The added value is that the work will help to further improve the international standards of excellence within the health-care sector and its marking apparatuses.

Purpose This study aims to conduct a literature review on factors that influence the implementation and design of performance measurement systems in nonprofit organizations. Design/methodology/approach The research strategy is conceived through a literature review focused on the analysis of authorship, supported by bibliometric techniques such as citation, co-citation and co-authorship social networks. Findings Models and theories proposed for measuring performance in non-profit organizations are being researched, starting to form an intellectual structure related to performance measurement systems and nonprofits. Three main research topics have been given more attention: strategic performance and public service performance, health-care performance and nonprofit operations strategy and performance measurement. Research limitations/implications The study is limited to scientific journal papers and could benefit from the addition of new sources of information such as conference papers, books and standards. The body of knowledge of this topic could also benefit from an in-depth investigation through a comprehensive review of models and theories, as a proposal for a future research agenda. Practical implications As practical applications are identified, groups of researchers in different countries and subjects that can generate research agendas, scientific communities used to investigate issues related to performance in nonprofit activities. Originality/value Performance measurement in nonprofit organizations is a topic of study that has been receiving considerable attention in recent years, to the point that the literature is revealing specific models for measuring performance in this type of organizations. Particular models and theories are being conceived, specializing existing models and theories related to performance measurement and management.

Purpose Knowledge and its management and, more recently, strategic knowledge management (SKM) represent major challenges for the organisations of the 21st century. Despite the importance of this knowledge field, and the significant quantity of research that has focussed on this theme, there is a dearth of studies in the literature undertaking a systematic SKM review. This study aims to provide a currently complete and systematic SKM review to stimulate and contribute to furthering this academic field and correspondingly set out an agenda for future research. Design/methodology/approach This paper sourced the data from the science citation index expanded (SCI-expanded), the social sciences citation index (SSCI) and the arts and humanities citation index (A&H CI) databases. This research spanned references published in journals belonging to the categories of management, business and economics without any chronological filter. The search returned a total of 99 references with their dates of publication between 1995 (1 reference) and 2018 (7 references). Findings The results included the identification of three core approaches to this study field: SKM models and competitive advantage, SKM implementation and the Systematic SKM approach. Practical implications This current study seeks to undertake the mapping of the scientific publications, the intellectual structure and research trends in the SKM field to: identify the fundamental contributions to the SKM research field; determine the research pathways establishing its intellectual structure and the scientific journals with the greatest impact on the field and identify the SKM research field geographical distribution and its collaborative structure. Originality/value This study defines a roadmap for an informed research agenda that proposes multiple directions: the usage and development of an innovative theory that may open new paths for future research and theoretical construction; a more sophisticated understanding of the concept and its applicability; approaching the shortcomings interrelated with the content across different levels of analysis; and the application of relevant and appropriate methodologies for operationalizing SKM.

Consumer complaining behavior (CCB) is an important field of research and practice, as it links the streams of service failure and service recovery. Despite extensive work, gaps persist in the understanding of CCB, for its intricate multi-dimensional nature. In this paper, we present a bibliometric analysis of CCB research published since 2000. Specifically, we analyze 729 articles containing 46,134 references, using citation and co-citation analysis. Our study reveals influential works in the CCB domain and identifies their clustering pattern. We supplement the exercise with social network analysis to decipher the centrality features of CCB research. We clarify the scholarly dialogue prevalent in the domain by interpreting the results through the process, valence, and actor perspective. Our review adds to theory by delineating the intellectual structure of CCB research and identifying future research potential. We contribute to practice by suggesting a four-pronged prescriptive approach toward CCB.

This study provides a retrospective of the Journal of Forecasting (JoF) between 1982 and 2019. Evidence shows a considerable increase in JoF's productivity and influence since 1982. For example, a JoF article, on average, receives more than 18 citations, and contributions from 65 nations appear in the journal. All articles have a forecasting implication, but JoF encourages a wide range of contexts recently featuring value‐at‐risk and financial econometrics. Factors with a positive association with JoF citations include the number of references, article length, article age, special issue, and number of authors.

O objetivo deste estudo exploratório é recolher e mapear a estrutura intelectual da Avaliação de Pesquisa. Usando citações de redes, capturamos os blocos de construção latentes e as linhas condutoras deste tema. A visualização e análise de dados foram úteis para fazer uma exploração dos antecedentes da literatura; observando as redes de citação e seus agrupamentos, identificamos artigos-chave (artigos seminais e artigos relevantes) que suportam as diferentes áreas de Avaliação de Pesquisa. O principal resultado é o mapa de citações organizado em seis grupos (clusters), fornece uma visão geral rápida desses territórios interligados, dando uma compreensão dessas diferentes áreas de conhecimento. Using networks citations we capture the latent building blocks and drivers of this theme. Data visualization and visual analytics were helpful to make an exploration of literature background; by observing citation networks and its clusters we identify key papers (seminal and highest papers) that support different areas of Research Evaluation. Main result is the Citation map with six clusters, where each cluster gives us a quick overview of those interlinked territories that provide an understanding of those different knowledge areas. This is a clear picture of this topic, useful for academic scholars, novice researchers and the practical stakeholders, interest in research evaluation policy or assessing the quality of research and its implementation. PurposeThis study aims to explore the evolutionary trajectories of technological innovation using 1,361 documents to determine the most cited documents, influential authors, prominent journals and leading countries in the field of technological innovation research.Design/methodology/approachIn this paper, the intellectual structure of technological innovation literature was studied using bibliometric co-occurrence and co-citation analyses. The authors focused on the 1,361 documents in this research stream published between 1961 and 2019.FindingsThe findings show that researchers do not appropriately draw on theoretical perspectives external to the field to study different dimensions of technological innovation. This study reveals six distinct areas within the literature: sources of innovation, environmental innovation and technological innovation, investment, economic growth of countries, technological innovation systems for sustainable development, innovation system, research and development and competitiveness.Originality/valueThis study investigates the foundations of the conception, themes and research communities within the technological innovation domain. This paper found strong evidence that technological innovation is one of the keys to the research area in innovation studies.

Resumen Este artículo compara la producción científica de Perú y Ecuador entre 2009 y 2018. Se recuperaron documentos con al menos una afiliación peruana o ecuatoriana desde el Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index y Emerging Sources Citation Index de la base de datos Web of Science. Se evaluaron la tendencia y el crecimiento exponencial de la producción científica, se identificaron instituciones y áreas temáticas más productivas. Se estudió la estructura intelectual de la producción científica peruana y ecuatoriana mediante el análisis de acoplamiento bibliográfico de autores (AABA) y el análisis de cocitación de autores (ACA). Los resultados muestran que Perú tiene mayor producción acumulada que Ecuador. Sin embargo, Ecuador tiene mayor producción en los tres últimos años, incluso con pronóstico de seguir produciendo más que Perú. Las instituciones más productivas en ambos países son las universidades, y las categorías temáticas más productivas para Perú son salud ocupacional y ambiental y, para Ecuador son investigación educativa y ciencias ambientales. Abstract This article compares the scientific production of Peru and Ecuador between 2009 and 2018. Documents with at least one Peruvian or Ecuadorian affiliation were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index and Emerging Sources Citation Index of the Web of Science database. The trend and exponential growth of scientific production were evaluated, more productive institutions and thematic areas were identified. The intellectual structure of the Peruvian and Ecuadorian scientific production was studied by means of the authors bibliographic-coupling analysis (ABCA) and the authors co-citation analysis (ACA). The results show that Peru has greater accumulated production than Ecuador. However, Ecuador has more production in the last three years, even with a forecast to continue producing more than Peru. The most productive institutions in both countries are the universities, and the most productive subject categories for Peru are occupational and environmental health, and for Ecuador they are educational research and environmental sciences.

The International Journal of Knowledge Management (IJKM) has been providing a platform for research in knowledge management since 2005. This study assesses its 15-year milestone and lends insight into the major trends in the establishment and development of the journal. The primary objective of this paper is to present an overview of the intellectual structure of the IJKM using bibliometric analysis. The paper focuses on the leading trends of the journal over the years and traces the subsequent developments. Using the Scopus database, the bibliographic data of the journal was extracted in order to highlight the major influences in its growth history and the central themes of the journal employing different bibliometric tools. Analysis of the content and context of the journal illustrates the inclusive nature of knowledge management research in the journal. The IJKM provides an important context for interdisciplinary and international research and draws attention from a wide section of the academic community for the research it showcases.

PurposeThe authors evaluate the evolution of the intellectual structure of strategic management (SM) by employing a document co-citation analysis through a network analysis for academic citations in articles published in theStrategic Management Journal (SMJ).Design/methodology/approachThe authors employed the co-citation analysis through the social network analysis.FindingsThe authors outlined the evolution of the academic foundations of the structure and emphasized several domains. The economic foundation of SM research with macro and micro perspectives has generated a solid knowledge stock in the literature. Industrial organization (IO) psychology has also been another dominant foundation. Its robust development and extension in the literature have focused on cognitive issues in actors' behaviors as a behavioral foundation of SM. Methodological issues in SM research have become dominant between 2004 and 2011, but their influence has been inconsistent. The authors concluded by recommending future directions to increase maturity in the SM research domain.Originality/valueThis is the first paper to elucidate the intellectual structure of SM by adopting the co-citation analysis through the social network analysis.

Gender, Work and Organization (GWO) is a highly reputed journal specializing in gender and development‐based research. In 2018, the journal celebrated its 25th anniversary, presenting the perfect opportunity to conduct a retrospective analysis of its content. Using bibliometric analysis on the GWO documents retrieved from the Scopus database, this study documents evidence of the research activities of the journal between 1994 and 2018. The article reports its publication and citation structure, leading trends and its increasing drive towards co‐authorship. It also identifies the most prominent topics, prolific articles and authors, and discusses the impact of the state of collaboration among the various GWO scholars. The study also maps the intellectual structure of the scholar network in the journal and finds the most influential scholars and leading institutions to be the most central in the collaboration network. The findings of the research include implications for researchers, practitioners and policymakers.

What is being researched and which is the sources of knowledge? Those are questions that researchers ask in the construction of new scientific advances. Research on legitimacy and higher education has grown in recent years. This make difficult to get a current view of the situation in which this field of research is. The purpose of this research is to identify and visualize the current state of research in the field of legitimacy and higher education. Through a bibliometric methodology based on co-citations, the current intellectual structure of this research field is analyzed. Furthermore, the main research areas, the main contributors and the means of dissemination of this knowledge are identified. This work contributes to the development of the field of legitimacy and higher education by providing an integral vision of the situation of this domain, a starting point and an adequate theoretical basis for researchers to build new advances.

Studies around public–private partnerships (PPPs) have shaped a complex and colorful research field. A series of review studies have been performed to explore the knowledge base of this field. Despite their significant contributions, bibliometric research on the PPPs literature is still needed to capture more comprehensive, diverse and detailed information in this area from a holistic perspective, for reducing subjectivity and one-sidedness. Under this situation, this paper continues the bibliometric journey by conducting a comprehensive metrological and content analysis of the PPPs research field. By applying a newly developed Bibliometrix R-package tool, the overview of PPPs research is presented via metrological analysis using a series of indexes. The intellectual structure of this domain is then explored via content analysis using the methods of keywords analysis and citation analysis from both static and dynamic perspectives. Consequently, the panoramic view including the overview, pivotal points of topics, thematic evolution and research focuses of this domain are depicted visually and intuitively via a set of science maps. This new attempt crystallizes out key findings and valuable information of PPPs research, which can consolidate and broaden the bibliometric findings of previous PPPs literature studies and act as a guidance for analyzing the knowledge base of other research fields.

The purpose of this research is to map and analyse the conceptual and thematic structure of library and information science (LIS) research from the perspective of the co-word analysis. The bibliographical records consist of all the research papers published in the LIS core journals between 1990 and 2016 and indexed in Web of Science. ‘CiteSpace’ was used to visualise the co-word network of LIS studies. The frequency of co-occurrence and centrality scores in the overall structure of the field showed that the word ‘Science’ is the most significant and pivotal keyword among the nodes in the co-word network of LIS literature, and in this respect, the word ‘Library’ is in the second place. However, the results of the social network analysis uncovered that in spite of the high frequency of the word ‘library’, the pivotal role of the term has been exposed to decline over the time. The results of the analysis of co-word clusters showed that ‘information seeking and retrieval’ is the most important research focus in the intellectual structure of LIS literature during 1990–2016. Also, analysis of the hot spots of the LIS research based on Kleinberg algorithm indicated that the words ‘Internet’ and ‘World Wide Web’ have attracted the most attention by LIS scholars during the years under study.

PurposeThis paper aims to present a longitudinal and visualizing study using scientometric approaches to depict the historical changes in the academic community, intellectual base and research hotspots within the business domain.Design/methodology/approachTwo mapping methods are used, namely, co-citation analysis and co-occurrence analysis. Both the co-citation analysis and co-occurrence analysis in this study are conducted using CiteSpace, a Java-based scientific visualization software.FindingsThis paper detects changes in academic communities in 24 business journals chosen by the University of Texas at Dallas as leading journals (UTD24) and identifies the research hotspots such as corporate governance, organizational research and capital research. Many authors and academic communities appear in two or even three periods, which indicates the lasting academic vitality of scholars in this field. This paper determines the evolution of scholars' research interests by identifying high-frequency keywords during the entire period.Originality/valueThis paper reveals a systematic and holistic picture of the developmental landscape of the business domain, which can provide a potential guide for future research. Furthermore, based on empirical data and knowledge visualization, the intellectual structure and evolution of the business domain can be identified more objectively.

This study analyzes the intellectual structure of the sharing economy (SE) in the hospitality and tourism industry, starting from a sample of 189 papers. A co-citation analysis was performed on the 99 most frequently cited studies. The analysis carried out identified five clusters. These groups include the following: (i) the constituent elements of sharing, (ii) the SE and the sharing phenomenon, (iii) noncommercial website platforms and the social impact generated by sharing firms, (iv) economic impacts, and (v) some negative impacts. This research concerns determining authors’ scientific influence in library and information science research and their impact on the intellectual structure of the discipline by means of integrative indicators of the Scholarly Capital Model and co-authorship patterns. Research records comprised articles published from 1945 to 2016 in library and information science core journals and indexed in Web of Science. CiteSpace (software for visualization of scientific patterns and trends) was employed to map the intellectual structure of library and information science research based on co-authorship patterns. The results showed that the top 10 authors of library and information science research with the highest scores in terms of influence indicators (except for one person) were mostly concerned with the field of scientometrics which can be considered as the special impact of scientometric authors on the intellectual structure of library and information science research especially in recent years. Based on the results of the research, integrative use of scientometric indicators for measuring authors’ level of scholarly influence may grant a more precise perspective for decision makers in the field of library and information science.

These are the basis for constructing the corresponding knowledge, and co-citation patterns among them are shown graphically.

As a result of growing interest in the relationship between organizational legitimacy and survival, the flow of publications in the field makes it difficult to maintain a birds-eye view of the multiple lines of research. The purpose of this study is to map the intellectual structure of current scholarship on organizational legitimacy. Through the study of bibliometric co-citations, we identify the most active research areas in organizational legitimacy, their sub-disciplinary composition, patterns of interrelationship, the most influential subject matters and transformative discoveries. This paper contributes to the literature on organizational legitimacy by facilitating quick understanding of the intellectual structure of the field and identifying future lines of research.

Online social networks (OSNs), comprised of varying types of relations among actors that interact through social technologies, are widespread in today’s media environment. However, questions remain whether we are moving towards convergence within the sub-disciplines of communication and with other disciplines in OSN research. This article pursues two interrelated goals. First, it performs a bibliometric analysis of existing scholarship on OSNs in the past 20 years, highlighting both the convergence and divergence of inquiry on OSNs in computer-mediated communication (CMC) research. Second, based on the results of the bibliometric analysis, it articulates an agenda for future CMC research. Specifically, we advocate for a social network approach that will bridge various theoretical frameworks and disciplinary/sub-disciplinary boundaries, for employing the communication network taxonomy, for greater effort to integrate traditional and computational approaches within and beyond social network analysis, and for addressing a greater diversity of institutional contexts.

Purpose There is an increased interest in e-tailing research in the literature, along with the development of new technologies and e-tailing platforms based on consumer and industry perspective. The purpose of this paper is to examine the periodic changes within the content of e-tailing literature. Design/methodology/approach The data set of this study includes academic papers cited in the Web of Science, which was published between 2000 and 2017. In this context, a co-word analysis was conducted using SciMat software based on the keywords, including “online retailing,” “e-tailing,” “e-store,” “online store,” “e-tail” and “online retail,” found in the titles of published academic articles. Findings In this study, three different periods of the e-tailing study field were examined, major and emerging themes for each period were determined with a comparative bibliometric analysis. In this regard, consumer acceptance, choice and satisfaction were found as the major themes in the conceptualization of e-tailing research. Originality/value Understanding the transition from traditional marketing channels to online channels is an essential factor for retailers as well as consumers’ use and the acceptance of new technologies. This study contributes to the effective execution of the e-tailing systems.

Purpose This study aims to build the intellectual structure of knowledge sharing (KS) research by objectively and systematically capturing and sketching the content of research papers published in the KS research area. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a systematic literature review for data collection, and content analysis and bibliometric techniques of citation and co-citation analysis for data analyses and interpretation. Findings Based on the study, the intellectual structure of KS research consisting of five themes has emerged. The five themes identified are: models, frameworks and understanding for KS, the behaviour-oriented perspective of KS, technology-oriented perspective of KS, KS barriers and KS and firm’s performance. Research limitations/implications This study has used published literature extracted from selected journals using the web of science database. More journals and databases may be included in future studies. Practical implications This study will give future researchers a comprehensive understanding of KS discipline and serve as a quick reference and resource for those interested in KS research. It identifies major areas of KS for the practitioners to enable them to focus and apply various organizational interventions to derive a competitive advantage. The identified themes in the intellectual structure of KS will also provide a holistic view and give multiple perspectives to practitioners so that they can better manage KS in their organizations. Originality/value This is among early studies aiming to extract the intellectual structure of KS in the broad area of knowledge management research.

Constructing academic networks to explore intellectual structure realize academic community detection, which can promote scientific research innovation and discipline progress, constitutes an important research topic. In this study, tripartite citation is fused with co-citation and coupling relations as a way of weighting the strength of direct citations, and all-author tripartite citation networks were constructed due to the contributions of all authors to the resulting publications. For purpose of exploring the potential of the all-author exclusive and inclusive tripartite citation networks, gene editing is taken as a case study. The extensive experimental comparisons are conducted with the traditional author single-citation networks and first-author tripartite citation network in terms of network structure characteristics, identifying core scholars, and exploring intellectual structures. The following conclusions can be drawn as follows: our all-author tripartite citation networks are able to help identify the most influential scholars in the field of gene editing, and the intellectual structures from exclusive tripartite citation networks are optimal.

From the initial idea, writing, submitting, and reviewing to the online presentation of a research paper takes a long time. The identified intellectual structure of a research paper may have a certain time lag. In view of this problem, scholars have suggested that research grants may be an alternative way to identify intellectual structure as early as possible. However, these comments are mentioned qualitatively. Few researchers have verified the research grant by early identification of the intellectual structure of a field with a quantitative method. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method framework to confirm the lead-lag relationship quantitatively between intellectual structures identified by the research grant and the research paper. In empirical analysis, Operations Research and Management Science in China was selected as a specific research area. The results show that the intellectual structure identified by the research grant leads the intellectual structure of a research paper by approximately 1–2 years. These discoveries, to some extent, confirm the early identification of intellectual structure based on the research grant. In addition, the results also indicate that there is high similarity between intellectual structure identified by the research grant and that in the research paper in the previous year.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the leading topics and developmental trends of archival information resource research in China by visualizing the intellectual structure and evolution patterns of archival information resource research. Design/methodology/approach This study took China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) as the data source and extracted keywords from relevant articles in archival information resource research as the sample. First, the frequency and co-occurrence of keywords were calculated by using SCI2. Second, this study analyzed the co-word network indicators by using Pajek. Then, topic community detection was conducted by using a VOS viewer, as well as the visualization of intellectual structures. Next, this study developed a graphical mapping of the evolution of research topics over time by using Cortext. Findings The research topics of archival information resources in China were unbalanced but distinct. Researchers focus on the construction and utilization of archival information resource, which consist of five evident research directions. The phenomena of fusion and differentiation coexist in research topic evolution. There were both continuities of traditional research and innovations in emerging research. The archival information resource research tended to be systematized and extended, reflecting the vertical and horizontal extension of the research content. Originality/value Based on a large number of previous studies, this study adopted quantitative methods to reveal the intellectual structure and evolution patterns of archival information resource research in China, providing guidance for researchers and institutions to grasp research status and developmental trends.

This study investigates the intellectual structure of strategic management (SM) research in the hospitality industry through co-citation analysis. This study analyzes the evolution of SM research from related SM articles inclusively published in hospitality- and tourism-focused journals as well as business- and management-focused journals from 1971 to 2016. This study is the first to map the intellectual structure of SM research in the hospitality industry to analyze the changes in the influence of the most significant studies, journals, and disciplines/fields as well as the relationships among the subfields on SM research in the hospitality industry. This study suggests that marketing is a dominant subfield in SM research within the hospitality industry. In addition, the resource-based view is a dominant approach in the field, although the positioning school was dominant during the field’s early stages.

Objective of the study: to identify the intellectual structure of research on Internal Stickiness (IS) from the references existing in publications on this topic.Methodology / Approach: a bibliometric analysis of quotation and quotation was used, as well as a network analysis. The sample, after worked and free of articles that were not part of the theme, was composed of 152 articles from 1994 to 2018.Originality / Relevance: The transfer of knowledge and best practices among members of the organization has attracted considerations from academia and organizations, because the company's competitiveness is directly linked to the knowledge acquired and its sharing. The difficulty of transferring knowledge and best practices in organizations is represented by the term Internal Stickiness (IS).Main results: three fields were identified that guide research on (IS): Knowledge Transfer; Knowledge transfer as a positive factor for the organization; Knowledge Transfer and Strategic Innovation.Theoretical / methodological contributions: it was possible to identify that there was no review article on the topic (IS). So, this study was able to contribute with the theory and show the existing works that had a greater influence on (IS).Social / management contributions: it is noticed that the existing articles deal with (IS) as the difficulty of knowledge transfer. The aim of this article is to map the intellectual structure of scholarship on economic and social value in the sport industry. Given that bibliometric techniques are specially appropriate for identifying the intellectual structures of a field of knowledge and complement traditional literature reviews, a co-citation bibliometric analysis has been applied. This kind of analysis identifies networks of interconnections. Therefore, we aim to detect both the most and the least active research areas in this field, as well as their sub-disciplinary composition. There is an abundance of literature on sport efficiency and economic efficiency in the sport industry, our main conclusion is the identification of a literature gap in regard to social value in sport organisations, which is expected to be a research opportunity for scholars. This is in line with the lack of standardisation in the measurement for social value in sport organisations. In fact, similar to analysis undertaken in the past few decades of other industries with contributions to stakeholders and the multi-fiduciary theory of stakeholders, both the creation of social value indicators for sport entities and the empirical analysis of social efficiency in sport institutions, are identified and outlined as future areas of research. Rockfall is one of the main phenomena in mountainous environments due to its fast and high speed of movement, its unpredictability, and, therefore, the difficulty of identifying signs of instability and detachment of the blocks. Compared to other types of sliding, the proportion of rockfall research is smaller and sometimes little known, but, in the last five years, rapid growth in this area has been shown. Therefore, this research aimed to review the intellectual structure of rockfall, through analysis of scientific production using bibliometric techniques that allow its analysis, knowledge, global evolution, and future trends in rockfall. The research methodology consists of three steps: (1) data compilation, (2) software and data cleaning, and (3) analysis, interpretation, and visualization. This analysis focuses on the period from 1975 to 2019. For the data, a total of 811 academic publications were retrieved from the Scopus database. The results indicate an increasing trend of annual publications on rockfall. This analysis reveals the main topics, countries, and most influential institutions in the world that have carried out relevant research in scientific publications, it also shows the journals that have the most publications. VOSviewer software was adopted to evaluate the co-occurrence of author keywords. Currently, the hotspots rockfall issues mainly include: hazard-risk assessment, remote sensing, and rockfall monitoring. Finally, this article analyzes the limitations of current research and proposes a future direction for the development of new research.

Since its inception in 1987, the ISO 9000 standards series has received remarkable appreciation as a quality management system as well as a prolific field of research. The substantial amount of ISO standards scholarly research has contributed over the years to the accumulation of sound scientific knowledge. This article aims to develop a better view of ISO 9000 standards, as a field of research, by investigating the intellectual structures of summative knowledge, underlying dynamics, temporal progression, current development, and future evolution of research dimension. The Elsevier Scopus Bibliometric database searched for journal articles largely focused on ISO 9000 series, published during 1987–2015 period. The synchronised use of Bibliographic Coupling Technique and Factor Analysis yields eight prominent research streams. The study suggests that within the domain of ISO 9000 standards, some issues have been more frequently researched, such as organisational motives behind seeking ISO 9000 certification, perceived operational, marketing, business outcomes, and cultural transformation essential for successful adaption of ISO 9000 standards. Secondly, research is still inconclusive about some other well-researched issues: comprehended performance outcomes, challenges in acquiring, registering, and maintaining certification, lessons learned, and effectiveness of certification, internal and external challenges, and the trade-off between cost and benefits.

International Journal of Computers Communications & Control (IJCCC) is an open access peer-reviewed journal publishing original research papers and it is considered by professionals, academics and researches as one of the main sources of knowledge in the integrated solutions in computer-based control and communications, computational intelligence methods and soft computing, and advanced decision support systems fields. With this in mind, this research conducts a bibliometric performance and intellectual structure analysis of the IJCCC from 2015 to 2019. It provides a framework to support computer, communication and control researchers and professionals in the development and direction of future researches identifying core, transversal, emerging and declining themes. For this purpose, the IJCCC’s intellectual structure and thematic networks are analyzed according to the data retrieved from Web of Science Core Collection, putting the focus on the main research themes and its performance. Finally, this analysis has been developed using SciMAT, an open source (GPLv3) bibliometric software tool developed to perform a science mapping analysis under a longitudinal framework.

This paper uses bibliometric methods to examine the knowledge network underpinning the Education for All initiative. Specifically, through an analysis of the references listed in the Education for All Global Monitoring Reports (EFA GMRs) published between 2002 and 2015, this paper focuses on the elite group of 89 authors referenced 10 or more times across the report series, and the underlying patterns of influence wielded by these authors over the EFA GMR knowledge network. This study contributes new insight into global trends in knowledge production and dissemination in this field, and highlights the value of bibliometric approaches in helping us better understand the increasingly complex and interconnected intellectual structure informing and shaping the global education agenda.

As análises de citação e cocitação são indicadores bibliométricos que fornecem dados objetivos para a compreensão da estrutura intelectual de um domínio do conhecimento. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo caracterizar, a partir da análise de citações e cocitações, a estrutura intelectual dos estudos da competência informacional com enfoque na abordagem fenomenográfica ou relacional. Especificamente, mapeou-se os autores mais produtivos, autores mais citados, sua filiação institucional, países que mais produzem sobre a temática e criou-se, por meio do software Ucinet, a rede de cocitação indicando a frequência de cocitação entre os autores. A coleta de dados foi feita por meio de um levantamento na base de dados internacional – SCOPUS, - utilizando a seguinte expressão de busca ("information literacy") AND ("phenomenographic" OR "relational*"). A pesquisa retornou apenas 18 trabalhos válidos, todos na língua inglesa, maioritariamente, produzidos por autores da Austrália, de onde provém o trabalho seminal sobre a abordagem fenomenográfica da competência informacional. Isto mostra que esta perspectiva teórico-metodológica ainda está em busca de sua penetração no campo da Ciência da Informação. Conclui-se que é necessário que sejam feitos estudos futuros, englobando outras bases de dados internacionais para se ter o contexto global sobre a estrutura intelectual deste objeto.

In this study, we sought to apply recent advances in informetrics to the analysis of literature related to big data in the field of medicine. Our aim was to elucidate research trends, identify knowledge clusters and decipher the links between them. We also sought to ascertain the theories most commonly applied in the processing of medical data and identify potential research gaps. The most important keywords over the last 10 years have been ‘big data’, ‘data mining’, ‘healthcare’, ‘cloud computing’, ‘machine learning’ and ‘electronic health record system’. These could be viewed as the core issues of research associated with big data in the field of medicine. We also identified a number of keywords that are expected to play a pivotal role in this field in the near future. These terms include the ‘internet of things’, ‘e-health’, ‘sensors’, ‘predictive modeling’, ‘quantified self’, ‘smart city’, ‘wearable device’ and ‘m-health’. Finally, we compiled co-word networks indicating the degree of connectivity between keywords, for use in locating knowledge gaps by revealing the overall context of issues commonly encountered when investigating big data. Our findings form a solid academic foundation on which to develop medical technologies, managerial strategies and theory related to big data.

The purpose of this article is to portray the knowledge evolution paths of business-IT alignment (BITA) research and identify a set of important papers in the development of BITA, and elucidate the intellectual structure of this field. This study collected 309 papers published during the period 1983-2015 from the Web of Science (WOS) database. Using a variety of bibliometric and visualization analytic techniques such as citation analysis, co-citation analysis and main path analysis, this article (1) delineates the significant knowledge flows of BITA research and identifies 15 important papers in this field; (2) graphically maps the influential countries, institutions, and journals of BITA research; (3) identifies four major research themes: BITA model, measurement, antecedents, and dynamics, and visualizing the relationships among them. Based on these findings, recommendations for the future research directions have suggested. This article provides IT practitioners, executives, and scholars with a new perspective to get a better understanding of BITA.

Over the past 50 years, the American Behavioral Scientist has become one of the most representative journals within the social and behavioral sciences field. The journal has disseminated large amounts of knowledge, which has increased the complexity of having a global picture of its contributions. The aim of this research is to identify and visualize the intellectual structure of this journal in order to appreciate the changes that have taken place over the five decades since its establishment. Following a bibliometric methodology, the most active research areas of the journal, the main contributors, knowledge sources, dissemination paths, as well as the emerging tendencies are identified within this article.

This study aims to review the scientific research on born global firms' phenomena to date. Based on a bibliometric analysis of 453 scientific papers on born global firms from the Thompson Reuters's Web of Science™ Core Collection database for the period 1994–2016, the authors discuss the results from the following perspectives: general results, number of publications per year, the articles that other authors cite most, most eminent authors, journals with the highest citation per article, institutions with the highest citation per document, and countries with the highest productivity. This analysis provides networks of co-cited references, journals, and first authors, and their respective clusters, revealing their rankings in terms of contributions to the born global firms' literature. The results of the analysis can be used to enhance our understanding of born global firms' research and support further research in this area.
