The fractional Laplacian $(-\Delta )^a$, $a\in(0,1)$, and its generalizations to variable-coefficient $2a$-order pseudodifferential operators $P$, are studied in $L_q$-Sobolev spaces of Bessel-potential type $H^s_q$. For a bounded open set $\Omega \subset \mathbb R^n$, consider the homogeneous Dirichlet problem: $Pu =f$ in $\Omega $, $u=0$ in $ \mathbb R^n\setminus\Omega $. We find the regularity of solutions and determine the exact Dirichlet domain $D_{a,s,q}$ (the space of solutions $u$ with $f\in H_q^s(\overline\Omega )$) in cases where $\Omega $ has limited smoothness $C^{1+\tau }$, for $2a, Comment: 52 pages. We study a free-boundary fluid–structure interaction problem with growth, which arises from the plaque formation in blood vessels. The fluid is described by the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations, while the structure is considered as a viscoelastic incompressible neo-Hookean material. Moreover, the growth due to the biochemical process is taken into account. Applying the maximal regularity theory to a linearization of the equations, along with a deformation mapping, we prove the well-posedness of the full nonlinear problem via the contraction mapping principle.

The bosonic signature operator is defined for Klein-Gordon fields and massless scalar fields on globally hyperbolic Lorentzian manifolds of infinite lifetime. The construction is based on an analysis of families of solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation with a varying mass parameter. It makes use of the so-called bosonic mass oscillation property which states that integrating over the mass parameter generates decay of the field at infinity. We derive a canonical decomposition of the solution space of the Klein-Gordon equation into two subspaces, independent of observers or the choice of coordinates. This decomposition endows the solution space with a canonical complex structure. It also gives rise to a distinguished quasi-free state. Taking a suitable limit where the mass tends to zero, we obtain corresponding results for massless fields. We investigate the Dolbeault cohomology of weakly smooth forms on the Berkovich analytification of abelian varietes over a complete, non-trivially valued, non-archimedean field. In this setting, we give lower bounds for the dimension of the Dolbeault cohomology groups of weakly smooth forms. Furthermore, we prove lower bounds for the dimension of the Dolbeault cohomology groups of strong currents, i.e. of the topological dual of weakly smooth forms, in higher degrees., Wir untersuchen die Dolbeault Kohomologie von schwach-glatten Formen auf der Berkovich Analytifizierung von abelschen Varietäten über vollständigen, nicht-trivial bewerteten nicht-archimedischen Körpern. In diesem Setup geben wir einerseits untere Schranken für die Dimension der Dolbeault Kohomologie Gruppen der schwach-glatten Formen an. Probabilistische Analysen können sich auf eine Vielzahl mathematischer Objekte beziehen. In dieser Dissertation werden Coxeterstatistiken und STIT-Mosaike betrachtet. Der erste Teil der Arbeit beweist mittels Abhängigkeitsgraphen, dass die Coxeterstatistiken (verallgemeinerte) d-inversions und (verallgemeinerte) d-descents asymptotisch normalverteilt sind. Zwischenresultate liefern Zusammenhänge zwischen wahrscheinlichkeitstheoretischen Größen von Zufallsvariablen und kombinatorischen Größen von Coxeter-Gruppen. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit werden spezielle Typen planarer STIT-Mosaike betrachten. Für Mondrians werden wahrscheinlichkeitstheoretische Eigenschaften zweiter Ordnung bewiesen. Dazu gehören u.a. die Varianz und Kovarianz für die Anzahl maximaler Kanten und für die gewichtete Kantenlänge. Für isotrope STIT-Mosaike werden unterschiedliche Arten von Geradensegmente analysiert. Es werden Wahrscheinlichkeiten für verschiedene geometrische und metrische Eigenschaften hergeleitet.

In this thesis we give two applications of Ayoub’s motivic nearby cycles functor: First we give a generalization of Grothendieck’s classical local monodromy theorem. In the same setup we show that the inertia group acts quasi-unipotently on the étale cohomology of sheaves "coming from motives". Second we study the notion of universal local acyclicity for motives and show that for étale motives universal local acyclicity over an excellent 1- dimensional regular base scheme is detected by the motivic nearby cycles functor. Along the way we prove properties of the motivic nearby cycles functor which might be of independent interest., In dieser Arbeit zeigen wir zwei Anwendungen von Ayoubs motivischem Nahe Zyklen Funktor: Zuerst zeigen wir eine Verallgemeinerung von Grothendiecks klassischem lokalen Monodromie Theorem. Given a contact structure on a manifold $V$ together with a supporting open book decomposition, Bourgeois gave an explicit construction of a contact structure on $V \times \mathbb{T}^2$. We prove that all such structures are universally tight in dimension $5$, independent on whether the original contact manifold is itself tight or overtwisted. In arbitrary dimensions, we provide obstructions to the existence of strong symplectic fillings of Bourgeois manifolds. This gives a broad class of new examples of weakly but not strongly fillable contact $5$-manifolds, as well as the first examples of weakly but not strongly fillable contact structures in all odd dimensions. These obstructions are particular instances of more general obstructions for $\mathbb S^1$-invariant contact manifolds. We also obtain a classification result in arbitrary dimensions, namely that the unit cotangent bundle of the $n$-torus has a unique symplectically aspherical strong filling up to diffeomorphism., Comment: v5: Final version of the paper. A group is boundedly acyclic if its bounded cohomology with trivial real coefficients vanishes in all positive degrees. Amenable groups are boundedly acyclic, while the first non-amenable examples were the group of compactly supported homeomorphisms of $\mathbb{R}^n$ (Matsumoto--Morita) and mitotic groups (L\"oh). We prove that binate (alias pseudo-mitotic) groups are boundedly acyclic, which provides a unifying approach to the aforementioned results. Moreover, we show that binate groups are universally boundedly acyclic. We obtain several new examples of boundedly acyclic groups as well as computations of the bounded cohomology of certain groups acting on the circle. In particular, we discuss how these results suggest that the bounded cohomology of the Thompson groups $F$, $T$, and $V$ is as simple as possible., Comment: 33 pages, one figure; v3: refs updated and minor changes. In Directed Feeback Arc Set (DFAS) we search for a set of at most $k$ arcs which intersect every cycle in the input digraph. It is a well-known open problem in parameterized complexity to decide if DFAS admits a kernel of polynomial size. We consider $\mathcal{C}$-Arc Deletion Set ($\mathcal{C}$-ADS), a variant of DFAS where we want to remove at most $k$ arcs from the input digraph in order to turn it into a digraph of a class $\mathcal{C}$. In this work, we choose $\mathcal{C}$ to be the class of funnels. Funnel-Arc Deletion Set is NP-hard even if the input is a DAG, but is fixed-parameter tractable with respect to $k$. So far no polynomial kernels for this problem were known. Our main result is a kernel for Funnel-Arc Deletion Set with $\mathcal{O}(k^6)$ many vertices and $\mathcal{O}(k^7)$ many arcs, computable in $\mathcal{O}(nm)$ time, where $n$ is the number of vertices and $m$ the number of arcs in the input digraph., Accepted at IPEC 2020

In dieser Arbeit geht es um eine bemerkenswerte Beziehung zwischen zwei scheinbar nicht miteinander verbundenen Größen. Diese sind: Die asymptotische Wirkung und die asymptotische Windungszahl. Beide Größen entstehen als Birkhoff-Durchschnitte. Die erste Größe ist ein Durchschnitt aus der Hamiltonschen Wirkung in der symplektischen Geometrie und die zweite aus der Windungs- oder Verknüpfungszahl, die bei der Untersuchung dynamischer Systeme auf der Scheibe und dem Kreisring auftritt. Diese Beziehung, obwohl sie neu ist, ist inspiriert durch ein Theorem von Albert Fathi aus seiner Doktorarbeit (1980)., This thesis focuses on a neat relation between two seemingly unrelated quantities. These are: The asymptotic action and, the asymptotic Winding number. Both of these quantities arise as Birkhoff averages. The first one, is an average of the Hamiltonian action in symplectic geometry and the second from the winding or linking number which appears in the study of dynamical systems on the disk and the annulus.This relation even though its new, its inspired in a theorem of Albert Fathi present in his doctoral thesis(1980).

Die vorliegende Dissertation widmet sich der theoretischen Untersuchung zweier neuer Algorithmen für Clustering und Community Detection: AWC (Adaptive Weights Clustering) und AWCD (Adaptive Weights Community Detection). Ein zentraler Aspekt sind dabei die Raten der Konsistenz. Bei der Betrachtung von AWC steht die Tiefe Lücke zwischen den Clustern, also die relative Differenz der jeweiligen Dichten, im Vordergrund. Bis auf logarithmische Faktoren ist die erreichte Konsistenzrate optimal. Dies erweitert die niedrigdimensionalen Ergebnisse von Efimov, Adamyan and Spokoiny (2019) auf das Mannigfaltigkeitenmodell und berücksichtigt darüber hinaus viel allgemeinere Bedingungen an die zugrunde liegende Dichte und die Form der Cluster. Insbesondere wird der Fall betrachtet, bei dem zwei Punkte des gleichen Clusters nahe an dessen Rand liegen. Zudem werden Ergebnisse für endliche Stichproben und die optimale Wahl des zentralen Parameters λ diskutiert. Bei der Untersuchung von AWCD steht die Asymptotik der Differenz θ − ρ zwischen den beiden Bernoulli Parametern eines symmetrischen stochastischen Blockmodells im Mittelpunkt. Es stellt sich heraus, dass das Gebiet der starken Konsistenz bei weitem nicht optimal ist. Es werden jedoch zwei Modifikationen des Algorithmus vorgeschlagen: Zum einen kann der Bias der beteiligten Schätzer minimiert werden. Zum anderen schlagen wir vor, die Größe der initialen Schätzung der Struktur der Gruppen zu erhöhen, indem auch längere Pfade mit berücksichtigt werden. Mithilfe dieser Modifikationen erreicht der Algorithmus eine nahezu optimale Konsistenzrate. Teilweise können diese Ergebnisse auch auf allgemeinere stochastische Blockmodelle erweitert werden. Für beide Probleme illustrieren und validieren wir außerdem die theoretischen Resultate durch umfangreiche Experimente. Abschließend lässt sich sagen, dass die vorliegende Arbeit die Lücke zwischen theoretischen und praktischen Ergebnissen für die Algorithmen AWC und AWCD schließt. Insbesondere sind beide Algorithmen nach einigen Modifikationen auf relevanten Modellen konsistent mit einer nahezu optimalen Rate. This thesis presents a theoretical study of two novel algorithms for clustering and community detection: AWC (Adaptive Weights Clustering) and AWCD (Adaptive Weights Community Detection). Most importantly, we discuss rates of consistency. For AWC, we focus on the asymptotics of the depth ε of the gap between clusters, i.e. the relative difference between the density level of the clusters and the density level of the area between them. We show that AWC is consistent with a nearly optimal rate. This extends the low-dimensional results of Efimov, Adamyan and Spokoiny (2019) to the manifold model while also considering much more general assumptions on the underlying density and the shape of clusters. In particular, we also consider the case of two points in the same cluster that are relatively close to the boundary. Moreover, we provide finite sample guarantees as well as the optimal tuning parameter λ. For AWCD, we consider the asymptotics of the difference θ − ρ between the two Bernoulli parameters of a symmetric stochastic block model. As it turns out, the resulting regime of strong consistency is far from optimal. However, we propose two major modifications to the algorithm: Firstly, we discuss an approach to minimize the bias of the involved estimates. Secondly, we suggest increasing the starting neighborhood guess of the algorithm by taking into account paths of minimal path length k. Using these modifications, we are able to show that AWCD achieves a nearly optimal rate of strong consistency. We partially extend these results to more general stochastic block models. For both problems, we illustrate and validate the theoretical study through a wide range of numerical experiments. To summarize, this thesis closes the gap between the practical and theoretical studies for AWC and AWCD. In particular, after some modifications, both algorithms exhibit a nearly optimal performance on relevant models.

Spatial models are used in a variety of research areas, such as environmental sciences, epidemiology, or physics. A common phenomenon in such spatial regression models is spatial confounding. This phenomenon is observed when spatially indexed covariates modeling the mean of the response are correlated with a spatial random effect included in the model, for example, as a proxy of unobserved spatial confounders. As a result, estimates for regression coefficients of the covariates can be severely biased and interpretation of these is no longer valid. Recent literature has shown that typical solutions for reducing spatial confounding can lead to misleading and counterintuitive results. In this article, we develop a computationally efficient spatial model that explicitly correlates a Gaussian random field for the covariate of interest with the Gaussian random field in the main model equation and integrates novel prior structures to reduce spatial confounding. Starting from the univariate case, we extend our prior structure also to the case of multiple spatially confounded covariates. In simulation studies, we show that our novel model flexibly detects and reduces spatial confounding in spatial datasets, and it performs better than typically used methods such as restricted spatial regression. These results are promising for any applied researcher who wishes to interpret covariate effects in spatial regression models. In this note, we prove that the moduli stack of vector bundles on a curve with a fixed determinant is A1-connected. We obtain this result by classifying vector bundles on a curve up to A1- concordance. Consequently, we classify Pn-bundles on a curve up to A1-weak equivalence, extending a result in [3] of Asok-Morel. We also give an explicit example of a variety which is A1-h-cobordant to a projective bundle over P2 but does not have the structure of a projective bundle over P2, thus answering a question of Asok-Kebekus-Wendt [2].

The aim of this thesis is to contribute towards the theory of higher and quantum invariants of knots. It is divided into two parts. The first part deals with higher invariants, in which we derive a lower bound on the stable 4-genus of knots using Casson-Gordon invariants, and use it to study knot concordance. The second part is concerned with contributions towards quantum invariants. We use a variation of Khovanov homology called Z[G]-homology to define a new knot invariant that takes non-negative integer values and provides a lower bound on the proper rational unknotting number of a knot, which in turn is a lower bound for the ordinary unknotting number. Alongside, we provide detailed introductions to the mathematical theories and tools used in both parts of the thesis., Die vorliegende Dissertation stellt einen Beitrag zu der Theorie der höheren und Quanteninvarianten von Knoten dar. Die Arbeit ist in zwei Teile gegliedert. Der erste Teil handelt von höheren Invarianten, in welchem wir eine untere Schranke für das stabile 4-Geschlecht eines Knotens mittels Casson-Gordon Invarianten herleiten, und diese nutzen um Konkordanz von Knoten zu studieren. Der zweite Teil befasst sich mit Quanteninvarianten. Censored quantile regression provides an important supplement as well as variable selection methods due to large numbers of irrelevant covariates in practice. In this paper, we study variable selection procedures based on penalized weighted quantile regression for competing risks models, which is conveniently applied by researchers. Asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators, including consistency and asymptotic normality of non-penalized estimator and consistency of variable selection, are established. Monte Carlo simulation studies are conducted, showing that the proposed methods are considerably stable and efficient. Real data about bone marrow transplant (BMT) are also analyzed to illustrate the application of the proposed procedure. In wire-arc additive manufacturing, a wire is molten by an electrical or laser arc and deposited droplet-by-droplet to construct the desired workpiece, given as a set of two-dimensional layers. The weld source can move freely over a substrate plate, processing each layer, but there is also the possibility of moving without welding. A primary reason for stress inside the material is the large thermal gradient caused by the weld source, resulting in lower product quality. Thus, it is desirable to control the temperature of the workpiece during the process. One way of its optimization is the trajectory of the weld source. We consider the problem of finding a trajectory of the moving weld source for a single layer of an arbitrary workpiece that maximizes the quality of the part and derive a novel mixed-integer PDE-constrained model, including the calculation of a detailed temperature distribution measuring the overall quality. The resulting optimization problem is linearized and solved using the state-of-the-art numerical solver IBM CPLEX. Wir betrachten das Problem, eine Trajektorie der sich bewegenden Schweißquelle für eine einzelne Schicht eines beliebigen Werkstücks zu finden, die die Qualität des Teils maximiert, und leiten ein neuartiges gemischt-ganzzahliges PDE-beschränktes Modell ab, einschließlich der Berechnung einer detaillierten Temperaturverteilung, welche zur Beurteilung der Gesamtqualität benötigt wird. Gegenstand dieser Dissertation ist die non-parametrische Schätzung der Kovarianz in multi-dimensionalen Lévy-Prozessen auf der Basis von Hochfrequenzbeobachtungen. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit wird eine modifizierte Version der von Jacod und Reiß vorgeschlagenen Methode der Hochfrequenzbeobachtung für die Ermittlung der Kovarianz multi-dimensionaler Lévy-Prozesse gegeben. Es wird gezeigt, dass der Kovarianzschätzer optimal im Minimaxsinn ist. Darüber hinaus demonstrieren wir, dass die Indexaktivität der co-jumps durch das harmonische Mittel der Sprungaktivitätsinzidenzen der Komponenten von unten beschränkt wird. Der zweite Teil behandelt das Problem der adaptiven Schätzung. Ausgehend von einer Familie asymptotischer Minimax-Schätzer der Kovarianz, erhalten wir einen datenbasierten Schätzer. Wir wenden Lepskii’s Methode an, um die Kovarianz an die unbekannte Aktivität des co-jumps Indexes des Sprungteils anzupassen. Da wir es mit einem Adaptierungsproblem zu tun haben, müssen wir eine Schätzung der charakteristischen Funktion des multi-dimensionalen Lévy-Prozesses konstruieren, damit die charakteristische Funktion weder von einer semiparametrischen Annahme abhängt noch schnell abfällt. Aus diesem Grund wird auf Basis von Neumanns Methode ein trunkierter Schätzer für die empirische charakteristische Funktion konstruiert. Die Anwesenheit der trunkierten, empirischen charakteristischen Funktion im Zähler führt jedoch zu einer Situation, die auch bei der Deconvolution auftritt, d.h. einem irregulären Verhalten des stochastischen Fehlers. Dieser U-förmige stochastische Fehler verhindert die Anwendung von Lepskii’s Grundsatz. Um diesem Problem, entgegenzuwirken, entwickeln wir eine Strategie, welche zu einem Orakelstart von Lepskii's Methode führt, mit deren Hilfe ein monoton steigender stochastischer Fehler konstruiert wird. Dies erlaubt uns, ein Balancing Principle einzuführen und einen adaptiven Schätzer für die Kovarianz zu erhalten, der fast-optimale Raten erzeugt., In this thesis, we consider the problem of nonparametric estimation for the continuous part of the covariation of a multi-dimensional Lévy process from high-frequency observations. This continuous part of covariation is also called covariance. The first part modifies the high-frequency estimation method, proposed by Jacod and Reiss, to cover estimation of the covariance of multi-dimensional Lévy processes. The covariance estimator is shown to be optimal in the minimax-sense. Moreover, the co-jump index activity is proved to be bounded from below by the harmonic mean of the jump activity indices of the components. In the second part, we address the problem of the adaptive estimation. Starting from an asymptotically minimax family of estimators for the covariance, we derive a data-driven estimator. Lepskii's method is applied to adapt the covariance to the unknown co-jump index activity of the jump part. Faced with an adaptation problem, we need to secure an estimation for the characteristic function of the multi-dimensional Lévy process so that it does not depend on a semiparametric assumption and, at the same time, does not decay fast. For this reason, a truncated estimator for the empirical characteristic function is constructed based on Neumann's method. The presence of the truncated empirical characteristic function in the denominator leads to a situation similar to the deconvolution problem, i.e., an irregular behavior of the stochastic error. This U-shaped stochastic error does not permit us to apply Lepskii's principle. To counteract this problem, we establish a strategy to obtain an oracle start of Lepskii's method, according to which a monotonically increasing stochastic error is constructed. This enables us to apply a balancing principle and build an adaptive estimator for the covariance which obtains near-optimal rates.

We give a rigorous construction of the path integral in N=1/2 supersymmetry as an integral map for differential forms on the loop space of a compact spin manifold. It is defined on the space of differential forms which can be represented by extended iterated integrals in the sense of Chen and Getzler-Jones-Petrack. Via the iterated integral map, we compare our path integral to the non-commutative loop space Chern character of G\"uneysu and the second author. We suppose that a Lévy process is observed at discrete time points. Starting from an asymptotically minimax family of estimators for the continuous part of the Lévy Khinchine characteristics, i.e., the covariance, we derive a data-driven parameter choice for the frequency of estimating the covariance. We investigate a Lepskiĭ-type stopping rule for the adaptive procedure. Consequently, we use a balancing principle for the best possible data-driven parameter. The adaptive estimator achieves almost the optimal rate. Numerical experiments with the proposed selection rule are also presented.

In this paper, we study quasilinear elliptic equations driven by the double phase operator along with a reaction that has a singular and a parametric superlinear term and with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition of critical growth. Based on a new equivalent norm for Musielak–Orlicz Sobolev spaces and the Nehari manifold along with the fibering method, we prove the existence of at least two weak solutions, provided the parameter is sufficiently small.

Die Anwenung von Operator-Splitting-Methoden auf gewöhnliche Differentialgleichungen ist gut etabliert. Für Differential-algebraische Gleichungen und partielle Differential-algebraische Gleichungen unterliegt sie jedoch vielen Einschränkungen aufgrund des Vorhandenseins von Nebenbedingungen. Die räumliche Diskretisierung reduziert PDAEs und lenkt unseren Fokus auf das Konzept der DAEs. Um eine reibungslose Übertragung des Operator-Splittings von ODEs auf DAEs durchzuführen, ist es wichtig, eine geeignete entkoppelte Struktur für das gewünschte Differential-algebraische System zu haben. In dieser Arbeit betrachten wir ein Modell, das partielle Differentialgleichungen für elektromagnetische Bauelemente - modelliert durch die Maxwell-Gleichungen - mit Differential-algebraischen Gleichungen koppelt, die die elementaren Schaltungselemente beschreiben. Nach der räumlichen Diskretisierung der klassischen Formulierung der Maxwell-Gleichungen mit Hilfe der finiten Integrationstechnik formulieren wir das resultierende gekoppelte System als Differential-algebraische Gleichung. Um eine geeignete Entkopplung zu bekommen, verwenden wir den zweigorientierten Loop-Cutset-Ansatz für die Schaltungsmodellierung. Daraus folgt, dass wir in der Lage sind, eine geeignete Operatorzerlegung so zu konstruieren, dass wir eine natürliche topologisch entkoppelte Port-Hamiltonsche DAE-Struktur erhalten. Wir schlagen einen Operator-Splitting-Ansatz für die Schaltungs-DAEs und gekoppelten Feld-Schaltungs-DAEs in entkoppelter Form vor und analysieren seine numerischen Eigenschaften. Darüber hinaus nutzen wir das Hamiltonsche Verhalten der inhärenten gewöhnlichen Differentialgleichung durch die Verwendung expliziter und energieerhaltender Zeitintegrations-methoden. Schließlich führen wir numerische Tests, um das mathematische Modell zu illustrieren und die Konvergenzergebnisse für das vorgeschlagene DAE-Operator-Splitting zu demonstrieren., The application of operator splitting methods to ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is well established. However, for differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) and partial differential-algebraic equations (PDAEs), it is subjected to many restrictions due to the presence of constraints. In constrained dynamical problems as electrical circuits or energy transport networks, DAEs arise. In order to perform a smooth transfer of the operator splitting from ODEs to DAEs, it is important to have a suitable decoupled structure for the desired differential-algebraic system. In this thesis, we consider a model which couples partial differential equations for electro- magnetic devices -modeled by Maxwell’s equations- with differential-algebraic equations describing the basic circuit elements. After spatially discretizing the classical formulation of Maxwell’s equations using the finite integration technique, we formulate the resulting coupled system as a differential-algebraic equation. To perform an appropriate decoupling, we use the branch oriented loop-cutset approach for circuit modeling. It follows that we are able to construct a suitable operator decomposition such that we obtain a natural topologically decoupled port-Hamiltonian DAE structure. We propose an operator splitting approach for the decoupled circuit and coupled field- circuit DAEs using the Lie-Trotter and Strang splitting algorithms and analyze its numerical properties. Furthermore, we exploit the Hamiltonian behavior of the system’s inherent ordinary differential equation by the utilization of explicit and energy-preserving time integration methods. Based on the convergence analysis of the ODE operator splitting method, we derive convergence results for the proposed approach that depends on the index of the system and thus on its topological structure. Finally, we perform numerical tests, to underline the mathematical model and to demonstrate the convergence results for the proposed DAE operator splitting.

We prove regularity estimates in weighted Sobolev spaces for the $L^2$-eigenfunctions of Schr\"odinger type operators whose potentials have inverse square singularities and uniform radial limits at infinity. In particular, the usual $N$-body Hamiltonians with Coulomb-type singular potentials are covered by our result: in that case, the weight is $\delta_{\mathcal{F}}(x) := \min \{ d(x, \bigcup \mathcal{F}), 1\}$, where $d(x, \bigcup \mathcal{F})$ is the usual euclidean distance to the union $\bigcup\mathcal{F}$ of the set of collision planes $\bigcup\mathcal{F}$. The proof is based on blow-ups of manifolds with corners and Lie manifolds. More precisely, we start with the radial compactification $\overline{X}$ of the underlying space $X$ and we first blow-up the spheres $\mathbb{S}_Y \subset \mathbb{S}_X$ at infinity of the collision planes $Y \in \bigcup\mathcal{F}$ to obtain the Georgescu-Vasy compactification. Then we blow-up the collision planes $\bigcup\mathcal{F}$. Unterwortkomplexe (Uwk) für Coxeter-Systeme endlichen Typs sind abstrakte Simplizialkomplexe, induziert durch reduzierte Wörter eines Elements in der assoziierten Gruppe, die in einem Wort Q, geschrieben in den einfachen Erzeugern des Systems, vorkommen. Diese Dissertation umfasst 5 Kapitel. Die ersten 3 behandeln die Resultate zweier veröffentlichter Arbeiten und die letzten 2 behandeln neue Inhalte. In Kapitel 3 wird die Theorie vom Bruhat-Kegeln erweitert um diese in Kapitel 4 mit Uwk zu verbinden und die Theorie von Brick-Polytopen auf Brick-Polyeder zu erweitern. In Kapitel 5 wird die Verbindung von Uwk und Cluster-Algebren erweitert und die unzerlegbaren Minkowski-Summanden des Assoziaeders bestimmt. In Kapitel 6 wird mittels einer Verallgemeinerung von Uwk gezeigt, wie man bestimmte nicht sphärische Uwk zu einem sphärischen Komplex zusammenkleben kann. In Kapitel 7 werden Coxeter-Permutaeder mittels Uwk erhalten. Es werden Gitterpunkte des Brick-Polytops mit SSYT verbunden.

We prove a short time existence result for a system consisting of a geometric evolution equation for a hypersurface and a parabolic equation on this evolving hypersurface. More precisely, we discuss a mean curvature flow scaled with a term that depends on a quantity defined on the surface coupled to a diffusion equation for that quantity. The proof is based on a splitting ansatz, solving both equations separately using linearization and a contraction argument. Our result is formulated for the case of immersed hypersurfaces and yields a uniform lower bound on the existence time that allows for small changes in the initial value of the height function., Comment: 40 pages

Organische Halbleiterbauelemente sind eine vielversprechende Technologie, die das Spektrum der optoelektronischen Halbleiterbauelemente erweitert und etablierte Technologien basierend auf anorganischen Halbleitermaterialien ersetzen kann. Für Display- und Beleuchtungsanwendungen werden sie z. B. als organische Leuchtdioden oder Transistoren verwendet. Eine entscheidende Eigenschaft organischer Halbleitermaterialien ist, dass die Ladungstransporteigenschaften stark von der Temperatur im Bauelement beeinflusst werden. Insbesondere nimmt die elektrische Leitfähigkeit mit der Temperatur zu, so dass Selbsterhitzungseffekte, einen großen Einfluss auf die Leistung der Bauelemente haben. Mit steigender Temperatur nimmt die elektrische Leitfähigkeit zu, was wiederum zu größeren Strömen führt. Dies führt jedoch zu noch höheren Temperaturen aufgrund von Joulescher Wärme oder Rekombinationswärme. Eine positive Rückkopplung liegt vor. Im schlimmsten Fall führt dieses Verhalten zum thermischen Durchgehen und zur Zerstörung des Bauteils. Aber auch ohne thermisches Durchgehen führen Selbsterhitzungseffekte zu interessanten nichtlinearen Phänomenen in organischen Bauelementen, wie z. B. die S-förmige Beziehung zwischen Strom und Spannung. In Regionen mit negativem differentiellen Widerstand führt eine Verringerung der Spannung über dem Bauelement zu einem Anstieg des Stroms durch das Bauelement. Diese Arbeit soll einen Beitrag zur mathematischen Modellierung, Analysis und numerischen Simulation von organischen Bauteilen leisten. Insbesondere wird das komplizierte Zusammenspiel zwischen dem Fluss von Ladungsträgern (Elektronen und Löchern) und Wärme diskutiert. Die zugrundeliegenden Modellgleichungen sind Thermistor- und Energie-Drift-Diffusion-Systeme. Die numerische Diskretisierung mit robusten hybriden Finite-Elemente-/Finite-Volumen-Methoden und Pfadverfolgungstechniken zur Erfassung der in Experimenten beobachteten S-förmigen Strom-Spannungs-Charakteristiken wird vorgestellt., Organic semiconductor devices are a promising technology to extend the range of optoelectronic semiconductor devices and to some extent replace established technologies based on inorganic semiconductor materials. For display and lighting applications, they are used as organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) or transistors. One crucial property of organic semiconductor materials is that charge-transport properties are heavily influenced by the temperature in the device. In particular, the electrical conductivity increases with temperature, such that self-heating effects caused by the high electric fields and strong recombination have a potent impact on the performance of devices. With increasing temperature, the electrical conductivity rises, which in turn leads to larger currents. This, however, results in even higher temperatures due to Joule or recombination heat, leading to a feedback loop. In the worst case, this loop leads to thermal runaway and the complete destruction of the device. However, even without thermal runaway, self-heating effects give rise to interesting nonlinear phenomena in organic devices, like the S-shaped relation between current and voltage resulting in regions where a decrease in voltage across the device results in an increase in current through it, commonly denoted as regions of negative differential resistance. This thesis aims to contribute to the mathematical modeling, analysis, and numerical simulation of organic semiconductor devices. In particular, the complicated interplay between the flow of charge carriers (electrons and holes) and heat is discussed. The underlying model equations are of thermistor and energy-drift-diffusion type. Moreover, the numerical approximation using robust hybrid finite-element/finite-volume methods and path-following techniques for capturing the S-shaped current-voltage characteristics observed in experiments are discussed.

Diese Dissertation behandelt arithmetische Eigenschaften von Familien algebraischer Varietäten und deren speziellen Untervarietäten. Im ersten Kapitel definieren wir sogenannte absolut spezielle Untervarietäten mithilfe von Delignes Begriff der absoluten Hodgeklassen. Ausgehend von der Vermutung, dass alle Hodgeklassen absolute Hodgeklassen sind, erwarten wir, dass alle speziellen Untervarietäten absolut speziell sind. Wir beweisen diese Erwartung für Untervarietäten, die eine bestimmte Monodromiebedingung erfüllen. Das zweite Kapitel führt eine l-adische Version von speziellen Untervarietäten ein, die wir l-Galois spezielle Untervarietäten nennen. Wir studieren bewiesene und vermutete Eigenschaften dieser Untervarietäten und deren Zusammenhang zur Struktur des l-Galois exzeptionellen Locus und zur Mumford-Tate Vermutung. Im dritten Kapitel beweisen wir eine Rapoport-Zink Uniformisierung für den Modulraum der primitiv polarisierten K3 Flächen und kubischen Vierfaltigkeiten mit supersingulärer Reduktion. In beiden Fällen ist der Modulraum uniformisiert von einer explizit definierten rigid analytischen Untervarietät einer lokalen Shimura-Varietät von orthogonalem Typ., This thesis studies arithmetic aspects of families of algebraic varieties and their special subvarieties. In the first part, we use Deligne's framework of absolute Hodge classes to define a notion of absolutely special subvarieties. The conjecture that all Hodge classes are absolute Hodge predicts that every special subvariety is absolutely special. We prove this prediction for subvarieties satisfying a certain monodromy condition. The second part introduces an l-adic analog of special subvarieties that we call l-Galois special subvarieties. We study the properties of these subvarieties and discuss how known and unknown properties of l-Galois special subvarieties are related to the structure of the l-Galois exceptional locus and to the Mumford-Tate conjecture. In the third chapter, we prove a Rapoport-Zink type uniformization result for the moduli space of polarized K3 surfaces and cubic fourfolds. We show that in both cases, the tube over the supersingular locus of the moduli space is uniformized by an explicitly described rigid analytic open subvariety of a local Shimura variety of orthogonal type.

Gliomas are one of the most common types of primary brain tumors. Among those, high grade astrocytomas - so-called glioblastoma multiforme - are the most aggressive type of cancer originating in the brain, leaving patients a median survival time of 15 to 20 months after diagnosis. The invasive behavior of the tumor leads to considerable difficulties regarding the localization of all tumor cells, and thus impedes successful therapy. Here, mathematical models can help to enhance the assessment of the tumor’s extent. In this thesis, we set up a multiscale model for the evolution of a glioblastoma. Starting on the microscopic level, we model subcellular binding processes and velocity dynamics of single cancer cells. From the resulting mesoscopic equation, we derive a macroscopic equation via scaling methods. Combining this equation with macroscopic descriptions of the tumor environment, a nonlinear PDE-ODE-system is obtained. We consider several variations of the derived model, amongst others introducing a new model for therapy by gliadel wafers, a treatment approach indicated i.a. for recurrent glioblastoma. We prove global existence of a weak solution to a version of the developed PDE-ODE-system, containing degenerate diffusion and flux limitation in the taxis terms of the tumor equation. The nonnegativity and boundedness of all components of the solution by their biological carrying capacities is shown. Finally, 2D-simulations are performed, illustrating the influence of different parts of the model on tumor evolution. The effects of treatment by gliadel wafers are compared to the therapy outcomes of classical chemotherapy in different settings., Unter den primären Hirntumoren stellen Gliome eine der häufigsten Arten dar. Die Unterart der hochgradigen Astrozytome - so genannte Glioblastome - sind dabei die aggressivste Form von Hirntumoren. Die mediane Überlebenszeit nach der Diagnose eines Glioblastoms beträgt nur etwa 15 bis 20 Monate. Insbesondere das stark invasive Verhalten dieser Tumorart führt zu erheblichen Schwierigkeiten bei der korrekten Lokalisation des Tumors und erschwert somit eine erfolgreiche Therapie. Mathematische Modelle können hier helfen, eine bessere Einschätzung der Ausbreitung des Tumors zu geben. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit entwickeln wir ein Multiskalenmodell für die Entwicklung eines Glioblastoms. Beginnend auf der Mikroskala modellieren wir subzelluläre Bindungs- sowie Geschwindigkeitsdynamiken einzelner Krebszellen. Mit Hilfe von Skalierungsmethoden leiten wir aus der resultierenden mesoskopischen Gleichung für die einzelnen Krebszellen eine makroskopische Gleichung her. Zusammen mit makroskopischen Gleichungen für die Beschreibung der Tumorumgebung erhalten wir ein nichtlineares PDE-ODE-System. Wir betrachten verschiedene Modellierungsvarianten; dabei entwickeln wir auch ein neues Modell für die Therapie mit Gliadel Wafern, die unter anderem bei der Behandlung von Rezidiven zur Anwendung kommen. Für eine Abwandlung des entwickelten Modells zeigen wir die Existenz einer globalen schwachen Lösung. Das hierbei betrachtete PDE-ODE-System beinhaltet degenerierte Diffusion sowie Flusslimitierung in den Taxistermen der Tumorgleichung. Wir zeigen die Beschränktheit der Lösungskomponenten durch die jeweilige biologische Tragfähigkeit. Abschließend illustrieren wir in 2D-Simulationen den Einfluss verschiedener Modellbestandteile auf die Entwicklung des Tumors. Außerdem vergleichen wir die Auswirkungen der Therapie mit Gliadel Wafern mit denen der klassischen Chemotherapie in unterschiedlichen Einstellungen.

This thesis bridges two areas of mathematics, algebra on the one hand with the Milnor-Moore theorem (also called Cartier-Quillen-Milnor-Moore theorem) as well as the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem, and analysis on the other hand with Shintani zeta functions which generalise multiple zeta functions. The first part is devoted to an algebraic formulation of the locality principle in physics and generalisations of classification theorems such as Milnor-Moore and Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorems to the locality framework. The locality principle roughly says that events that take place far apart in spacetime do not infuence each other. The algebraic formulation of this principle discussed here is useful when analysing singularities which arise from events located far apart in space, in order to renormalise them while keeping a memory of the fact that they do not influence each other. We start by endowing a vector space with a symmetric relation, named the locality relation, which keeps track of elements that are "locally independent". The pair of a vector space together with such relation is called a pre-locality vector space. This concept is extended to tensor products allowing only tensors made of locally independent elements. We extend this concept to the locality tensor algebra, and locality symmetric algebra of a pre-locality vector space and prove the universal properties of each of such structures. We also introduce the pre-locality Lie algebras, together with their associated locality universal enveloping algebras and prove their universal property. We later upgrade all such structures and results from the pre-locality to the locality context, requiring the locality relation to be compatible with the linear structure of the vector space. This allows us to define locality coalgebras, locality bialgebras, and locality Hopf algebras. Finally, all the previous results are used to prove the locality version of the Milnor-Moore and the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorems. It is worth noticing that the proofs presented, not only generalise the results in the usual (non-locality) setup, but also often use less tools than their counterparts in their non-locality counterparts. The second part is devoted to study the polar structure of the Shintani zeta functions. Such functions, which generalise the Riemman zeta function, multiple zeta functions, Mordell-Tornheim zeta functions, among others, are parametrised by matrices with real non-negative arguments. It is known that Shintani zeta functions extend to meromorphic functions with poles on afine hyperplanes. We refine this result in showing that the poles lie on hyperplanes parallel to the facets of certain convex polyhedra associated to the defining matrix for the Shintani zeta function. Explicitly, the latter are the Newton polytopes of the polynomials induced by the columns of the underlying matrix. We then prove that the coeficients of the equation which describes the hyperplanes in the canonical basis are either zero or one, similar to the poles arising when renormalising generic Feynman amplitudes. For that purpose, we introduce an algorithm to distribute weight over a graph such that the weight at each vertex satisfies a given lower bound., Diese Arbeit schlägt eine Brücke zwischen zwei Bereichen der Mathematik, einerseits der Algebra mit dem Milnor-Moore-Theorem (auch Cartier-Quillen-Milnor-Moore-Theorem genannt) sowie dem Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt-Theorem und andererseits der Analysis mit den Shintani-Zetafunktionen, die eine Verallgemeinerung der Mehrfach-Zetafunktionen darstellen. Der erste Teil ist einer algebraischen Formulierung des Lokalitätsprinzips in der Physik und Verallgemeinerungen von Klassifikationstheoremen wie dem Milnor-Moore- und dem Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt-Theorem auf den Lokalitätsrahmen gewidmet. Das Lokalitätsprinzip besagt grob, dass Ereignisse, die in der Raumzeit weit voneinander entfernt stattfinden, sich nicht gegenseitig beeinflussen. Die hier erörterte algebraische Formulierung dieses Prinzips ist nützlich bei der Analyse von Singularitäten, die aus weit voneinander entfernten Ereignissen im Raum entstehen, um sie zu renormalisieren und dabei die Tatsache im Gedächtnis zu behalten, dass sie sich nicht gegenseitig beeinflussen. Wir beginnen damit, dass wir einen Vektorraum mit einer symmetrischen Relation, der so genannten Lokalitätsrelation, ausstatten, die die "lokal unabhängigen" Elemente festhält. Das Paar aus einem Vektorraum und einer solchen Relation wird als Vorlokalitäts-Vektorraum bezeichnet. Dieses Konzept wird auf Tensorprodukte erweitert, die nur Tensoren aus lokal unabhängigen Elementen zulassen. Wir erweitern dieses Konzept auf die Lokalitäts-Tensor-Algebra und die symmetrische Lokalitäts-Algebra eines Vorlokalitäts-Vektorraums und beweisen die universellen Eigenschaften jeder dieser Strukturen. Wir führen auch die Vorlokalitäts-Lie-Algebren zusammen mit den zugehörigen universellen Hüllalgebren der Lokalität ein und beweisen ihre universelle Eigenschaft. Später übertragen wir alle diese Strukturen und Ergebnisse aus dem Kontext der Vorlokalität in den Kontext der Lokalität, wobei die Lokalitätsbeziehung mit der linearen Struktur des Vektorraums kompatibel sein muss. Auf diese Weise können wir Lokalitäts-Kohlengebren, Lokalitäts-Bialgebren und Lokalitäts-Hopf-Algebren definieren. Schließlich werden alle vorherigen Ergebnisse verwendet, um die Lokalitätsversionen des Milnor-Moore- und des Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt-Theorems zu beweisen. Der zweite Teil ist der Untersuchung der polaren Struktur der Shintani-Zeta-Funktionen gewidmet. Diese Funktionen, die u.a. die Riemman-Zetafunktion, die multiplen Zetafunktionen und die Mordell-Tornheim-Zetafunktionen verallgemeinern, werden durch Matrizen mit reellen, nicht-negativen Argumenten parametrisiert. Es ist bekannt, dass Shintani-Zetafunktionen sich zu meromorphen Funktionen mit Polen auf affinen Hyperebenen erweitern. Wir verfeinern dieses Ergebnis, indem wir zeigen, dass die Pole auf Hyperebenen liegen, die parallel zu den Facetten bestimmter konvexer Polyeder verlaufen, die mit der Definitionsmatrix für die Shintani-Zeta-Funktion assoziiert sind. Letztere sind explizit die Newton-Polytope der Polynome, die durch die Spalten der zugrunde liegenden Matrix induziert werden. Wir beweisen dann, dass die Koeffizienten der Gleichung, die die Hyperebenen in der kanonischen Basis beschreibt, entweder Null oder Eins sind, ähnlich wie die Pole, die bei der Renormierung generischer Feynman-Amplituden entstehen. Zu diesem Zweck führen wir einen Algorithmus ein, um die Gewichte über einen Graphen so zu verteilen, dass das Gewicht an jedem Knoten eine gegebene untere Schranke erfüllt.

Mechanical tests form one of the pillars in development and assessment of modern materials. In a world that will be forced to handle its resources more carefully in the near future, development of materials that are favorable regarding for example weight or material consumption is inevitable. To guarantee that such materials can also be used in critical infrastructure, such as foamed materials in automotive industry or new types of concrete in civil engineering, mechanical properties like tensile or compressive strength have to be thoroughly described. One method to do so is by so called in situ tests, where the mechanical test is combined with an image acquisition technique such as Computed Tomography. The resulting time series of volume images comprise the delicate and individual nature of each material. The objective of this thesis is to present and develop methods to unveil this behavior and make the motion accessible by algorithms. The estimation of motion has been tackled by many communities, and two of them have already made big effort to solve the problems we are facing. Digital Volume Correlation (DVC) on the one hand has been developed by material scientists and was applied in many different context in mechanical testing, but almost never produces displacement fields that allocate one vector per voxel. Medical Image Registration (MIR) on the other hand does produce voxel precise estimates, but is limited to very smooth motion estimates. The unification of both families, DVC and MIR, under one roof, will therefore be illustrated in the first half of this thesis. Using the theory of inverse problems, we lay the mathematical foundations to explain why in our impression none of the families is sufficient to deal with all of the problems that come with motion estimation in in situ tests. We then proceed by presenting a third community in motion estimation, namely Optical flow, which is normally only applied in two dimensions. Nevertheless, within this community algorithms have been developed that meet many of our requirements. Strategies for large displacement exist as well as methods that resolve jumps, and on top the displacement is always calculated on pixel level. This thesis therefore proceeds by extending some of the most successful methods to 3D. To ensure the competitiveness of our approach, the last part of this thesis deals with a detailed evaluation of proposed extensions. We focus on three types of materials, foam, fibre systems and concrete, and use simulated and real in situ tests to compare the Optical flow based methods to their competitors from DVC and MIR. By using synthetically generated and simulated displacement fields, we also assess the quality of the calculated displacement fields - a novelty in this area. We conclude this thesis by two specialized applications of our algorithm, which show how the voxel-precise displacement fields serve as useful information to engineers in investigating their materials., Mechanische Tests repräsentieren eine der wichtigsten Säulen in der Entwicklung und Bewertung moderner Materialien. Um neu entwickelte Materialien auch zuverlässig in kritischer Infrastruktur verwenden zu können, wie etwa der Automobilindustrie oder dem Baugewerbe, bedarf es einer gründlichen Charakterisierung insbesondere in Bezug auf Druck- und Zugfestigkeit. Ein Hilfsmittel hierfür ist durch die sogenannten In Situ Tests gegeben. In diesen Tests werden mechanische Prüfung und ein Bildgebungsverfahren wie Computertomographie kombiniert. Das Resultat ist eine Zeitreihe von Volumenbildern, in der die individuelle, oft filigrane Reaktion des jeweiligen Material auf Belastungs verborgen ist. Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Offenlegung dieses Verhaltens und der algorithmischen Auswertung der resultierenden Bewegungsfelder. Bewegungsschätzung ist ein klassisches Problem der Bildverarbeitung. Insbesondere in zwei Gebieten gibt es bereits umfangreiche Vorarbeiten in 3D. Einerseits sind hier Methoden zu nennen, die sich unter dem Namen Digitale Volumenkorrelation (DVC) zusammenfassen lassen. Entwickelt im Gebiet der Materialwissenschaften existieren bereits diverse Anwendungen auf Bildserien von mechanischen Tests. In der Regel sind diese Methoden aber nicht voxel-präzise, was letztendlich bedeutet, dass Verschiebungen, die nur wenige Voxel betreffen, nicht akkurat geschätzt werden können. Andererseits löst die medizinische Bildregistrierung (MIR) genau dieses Problem, indem sie jedem Voxel Bewegungsinformation zuordnet. Um eine Lösung zu berechnen werden allerdings oft starke Glattheitsannahmen getroffen, die, bezogen auf In Situ Tests, nicht erfüllbar sind. Beide Ansätze zu vereinheitlichen wird ein Teil dieser Arbeit sein. Die Theorie der inversen Probleme stellt für uns einen ausgezeichneten Rahmen dar um zu argumentieren, warum beide Methoden nicht unseren Ansprüchen an Algorithmen zur Bewegungschätzung in In Situ Tests genügen. Wir greifen deswegen auf eine weitere Gruppe von Algorithem zurück, nämlich die des Optischen Flusses. Ursprünglich ausschließlich in 2D entwickelt, lassen sich trotzdem viele vorteilhafte Eigenschaften ausmachen: Strategien für große Verschiebungen, Abbilden von Sprüngen und Berechnung auf Pixelbasis sind hier nur kurz genannt und werden in der Arbeit ausführlich erläutert. Diese Arbeit beinhaltet deswegen eine Erweiterung einiger besonders geeigneter Algorithmen auf 3D. Der letzte Teil der Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit einer ausführlichen Analyse und Auswertung inklusive eines Vergleiches mit Konkurrenzansätzen. Hierbei konzentrieren wir uns auf drei Materialtypen: Schäume, Fasersyteme und Beton. Wir verwenden synthetische und echte Bilder von In Situ Tests, um unsere Erweiterungen mit Mitbewerbern aus DVC und MIR zu vergleichen. Des weiteren wird auch die Qualität des berechneten Verschiebungsfeldes auf Basis simulierter Daten ausgewertet -- ein Novum in diesem Bereich. Abschließend präsentieren wir zwei spezialisierte Anwendungen unserer Erweiterungen, in denen wir zeigen wie unsere Algorithmen IngenieurInnen in der Erforschung ihrer Materialien unterstützen können.

Local to global phenomena are omnipresent in mathematics, and since the appearance of the work of Grothendieck and his school it has been settled that the best way to treat such problems formally is via the theory of sheaves. It has been noticed already many years ago that sheaves are natural coefficients for cohomology theories defined on geometric objects of any kind, which means that they show their full power when set within a homotopical context. Therefore, one is somehow forced to move to the world of higher categories to work efficiently on the subject. This thesis essentially revolves around the theory of sheaves with values in infinity-categories, with a particular attention to its manifestations in topology and differential geometry. The initial sparkle that paved the way for the making of the present work was the intuition that Lurie's version of Verdier duality, expressed as an equivalence between sheaves and cosheaves, would have to be the starting point in the setup of the whole theory. The term Verdier duality is also often used in more classical literature to refer to an equivalence between some derived categories of constructible sheaves and their opposite: we will conclude this thesis by providing a generalization of this result. For these two reasons, we felt obliged to pay tribute to Jean-Louis Verdier in the choice of the title of this work. Verdier duality will make its initial appearence in the first chapter, which is devoted to the construction of the six functor formalism for sheaves on locally compact Hausdorff spaces. We will use it to transport the pushforward and pullback of cosheaves to sheaves, thus providing an abstract description of the well-known pushforward with proper support and exceptional pullback. Alongside with this interaction between sheaves and cosheaves, we will consider Lurie's tensor product of cocomplete infinity-categories as a second fundamental tool to build our six operations. This will allow us to work with a surprisingly vast class of stable coefficients, and to formulate Kunneth and projection formulas in a both unusual and convenient way. In the second chapter, Verdier duality will be used to produce an actual duality on certain infinity-categories of constructible sheaves. More precisely, we will consider stratified spaces equipped with conically smooth atlases, an extension of smooth atlases to the setting of singular spaces introduced by Ayala, Francis and Tanaka. The theory of conically smooth structures provides a procedure that allows to functorially resolve singularities to smooth manifolds with corners. We will make use of this procedure to perform some computations of exit path infinity-categories needed to obtain the aforementioned duality theorem. The reader who is not familiar with conically smooth spaces might wonder how our results interplay with more classical approaches to smoothly stratified spaces. To resolve this reasonable doubt, we also provide a proof of a conjecture of Ayala, Francis and Tanaka written in collaboration with Guglielmo Nocera, which asserts that any Whitney stratified space admits a conically smooth structure., Lokale bis globale Phänomene sind in der Mathematik allgegenwärtig, und seit dem Erscheinen der Arbeiten von Grothendieck und seiner Schule steht fest, dass der beste Weg, solche Probleme formal zu behandeln, die Garbentheorie ist. Schon vor vielen Jahren wurde festgestellt, dass Garben natürliche Koeffizienten für Kohomologietheorien sind, die auf geometrischen Objekten aller Art definiert sind, was bedeutet, dass sie ihre volle Kraft entfalten, wenn sie in einen homotopischen Kontext gesetzt werden. Daher ist man irgendwie gezwungen, sich in die Welt der höheren Kategorien zu begeben, um effizient an dem Thema zu arbeiten. Diese Dissertation dreht sich im Wesentlichen um die Theorie von Garben mit Werten in Unendlichkeitskategorien, mit besonderem Augenmerk auf ihre Manifestationen in Topologie und Differentialgeometrie. Der anfängliche Funke, der den Weg für die Entstehung der vorliegenden Arbeit ebnete, war die Intuition, dass Luries Version der Verdier-Dualität, ausgedrückt als Äquivalenz zwischen Garben und Cogarben, der Ausgangspunkt für die Aufstellung der gesamten Theorie sein müsste. Der Begriff Verdier-Dualität wird auch oft in der klassischeren Literatur verwendet, um auf eine Äquivalenz zwischen einigen abgeleiteten Kategorien konstruierbarer Garben und ihrem Gegenteil hinzuweisen: Wir werden diese Arbeit abschließen, indem wir eine Verallgemeinerung dieses Ergebnisses liefern. Aus diesen beiden Gründen fühlten wir uns verpflichtet, Jean-Louis Verdier bei der Wahl des Titels dieser Arbeit zu würdigen. Die Verdier-Dualität wird ihren ersten Auftritt im ersten Kapitel haben, das der Konstruktion des Sechs-Funktor-Formalismus für Garben auf lokal kompakten Hausdorff-Räumen gewidmet ist. Wir werden es verwenden, um den Pushforward und Pullback von Cogarben zu Garben zu transportieren und so eine abstrakte Beschreibung des bekannten Pushforward mit angemessener Unterstützung und außergewöhnlichem Pullback bereitzustellen. Neben dieser Wechselwirkung zwischen Garben und Cogarben betrachten wir Luries Tensorprodukt kovollständiger Unendlichkeitskategorien als zweites grundlegendes Werkzeug zum Aufbau unserer sechs Operationen. Dies wird es uns ermöglichen, mit einer überraschend großen Klasse stabiler Koeffizienten zu arbeiten und Kunneth- und Projektionsformeln auf ungewöhnliche und bequeme Weise zu formulieren. Im zweiten Kapitel wird die Verdier-Dualität verwendet, um eine tatsächliche Dualität auf bestimmten Unendlichkeitskategorien von konstruierbaren Garben zu erzeugen. Genauer gesagt werden wir geschichtete Räume betrachten, die mit konisch glatten Atlanten ausgestattet sind, eine Erweiterung glatter Atlanten zur Einstellung von singulären Räumen, die von Ayala, Francis und Tanaka eingeführt wurden. Die Theorie der konisch glatten Strukturen stellt ein Verfahren zur Verfügung, das es erlaubt, Singularitäten funktoriell in glatte Mannigfaltigkeiten mit Ecken aufzulösen. Wir werden von diesem Verfahren Gebrauch machen, um einige Berechnungen von Austrittspfad-Unendlichkeitskategorien durchzuführen, die benötigt werden, um das oben erwähnte Dualitätstheorem zu erhalten. Der Leser, der mit konisch glatten Räumen nicht vertraut ist, mag sich fragen, wie unsere Ergebnisse mit klassischeren Ansätzen für glatt geschichtete Räume zusammenspielen. Um diesen begründeten Zweifel auszuräumen, liefern wir auch einen Beweis für eine Vermutung von Ayala, Francis und Tanaka, die in Zusammenarbeit mit Guglielmo Nocera geschrieben wurde und die behauptet, dass jeder geschichtete Whitney-Raum eine konisch glatte Struktur zulässt.

Die vorliegende Dissertation entwickelt Theorie für die empirische Distance Covariance von schwach abhängigen Daten. In einem ersten Teil wird das asymptotische Verhalten der empirischen Distance Covariance von Daten in separablen metrischen Räumen unter Mischungsannahmen untersucht und verschiedene Konvergenzresultate hergeleitet. Aufbauend hierauf wird ein Bootstrap-Verfahren für die schwache Grenzverteilung der empirischen Distance Covariance vorgestellt und dessen Basis ein Test auf Unabhängigkeit von Zeitreihen konstruiert. Zum Beweis der Bootstrap-Konsistenz wird eine neue Schranke für den Wassersteinabstand eines empirischen Maßes zu seiner Limesverteilung unter Mischungsannahmen hergeleitet. Schließlich wird das genannte Bootstrap-Verfahren in einer abgewandelten Form verwendet um asymptotische Konfidenzintervalle für die Distance Covariance zu konstruieren.

Let F: C → Vect be a functor from a category C to vector spaces over a normed field. A functorial semi-norm on F is a factorization of F over the forgetful functor snVect → Vect, where snVect denotes the corresponding category of semi-normed vector spaces. Functorial semi-norms, in particular the ℓ¹-semi-norm, on singular homology were introduced by Gromov in his study of simplicial volume of manifolds. The latter is a homotopy invariant that, roughly speaking, measures the complexity of the fundamental class of an oriented closed connected manifold. In the present thesis, we investigate three aspects of functorial semi-norms: Universal functorial semi-norms (joint work with Clara Löh). For a fixed functor, we define a relation among all its functorial semi-norms, whose minimal elements we call universal. We then prove certain existence results of such universal functorial semi-norms. Inflexibility from a computational perspective. Crowley and Löh established a bidirectional correspondence between functorial semi-norms on singular homology and so-called inflexible manifolds. The construction of such manifolds is based on the construction and study of certain differential graded algebras, which are purely algebraic objects. As such they are very amenable to computations, not only by humans but also via computer programs. We present fragments of a software that facilitates such computations, some new examples that we found in this way, and two results about algorithmic decidability. Excisive approximation of ℓ¹-homology. It is a well-known fact, that ℓ¹-homology does not satisfy the excision axiom in the sense of Eilenberg and Steenrod. On the other hand, the fact that singular homology satisfies excision is already visible at the level of the singular chain complex functor, namely the latter is excisive in the sense of Goodwillie calculus. The latter, however, also provides the framework for constructing a universal (or best) excisive approximation to a given functor. We apply this theory to the ℓ¹-chain complex functor and show that its excisive approximation vanishes. In appendices, we include a proof of the fact that the singular chain complex functor is excisive in the sense of Goodwillie calculus, and we relate this abstract form of excision to the classical one in the form of Mayer-Vietoris sequences., Sei F: C → Vect ein Funktor von einer Kategorie C in eine Kategorie von Vektorräumen über einem normierten Körper. This dissertation presents a generalization of the generalized grey Brownian motion with componentwise independence, called a vector-valued generalized grey Brownian motion (vggBm), and builds a framework of mathematical analysis around this process with the aim of solving stochastic differential equations with respect to this process. Similar to that of the one-dimensional case, the construction of vggBm starts with selecting the appropriate nuclear triple, and construct the corresponding probability measure on the co-nuclear space. The study of analysis around vggBm starts with accessibility to Appell systems, so that characterizations and tools for the analysis of the corresponding distribution spaces are established. Then, explicit examples of the use of these characterizations and tools are given: the construction of Donsker's delta function, the existence of local times and self-intersection local times of vggBm, the existence of the derivative of vggBm in the sense of distributions, and the existence of solutions to linear stochastic differential equations with respect to vggBm.

Existence and uniqueness of solutions for a class of models for stress-modulated growth is proven in one spatial dimension. The model features the multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient F into an elastic part and a growth-related part G. After the transformation due to the growth process, governed by G, an elastic deformation described by is applied in order to restore the Dirichlet boundary conditions and, therefore, the current configuration might be stressed with a stress tensor S. The growth of the material at each point in the reference configuration is given by an ordinary differential equation for which the right-hand side may depend on the stress S and the pull-back of a nutrient concentration in the current configuration, leading to a coupled system of ordinary differential equations.

In der vorliegenden Dissertation wird das asymptotische Verhalten von Maxima und Punktprozessen von abhängigen Zufallsvariablen betrachtet, die durch das Anwenden von Funktionen auf hochdimensionale Punkte definiert sind. Im ersten Teil wird Konvergenz in Verteilung des maximalen Abstands zwischen unabhängigen und identisch verteilten, hochdimensionalen Punkten gegen die Gumbel-Verteilung gezeigt. Ein verallgemeinertes Resultat für maximale abhängige zufällige Irrfahrten wird hergeleitet. Im zweiten Teil werden Resultate bezüglich der Konvergenz des Maximums abhängiger Zufallspunkte im Sinne von schwacher Punktprozess Konvergenz gegen einen Poisson-Prozess verallgemeinert. Im dritten Teil werden das asymptotische Verhalten des Punktprozesses der außer-diagonalen Einträge und der Frobenius-Norm der Stichproben-Kovarianzmatrix von hochdimensionalen Zufallsvektoren betrachtet. Die asymptotische Unabhängigkeit des Punktprozesses und der Frobenius Norm wird bewiesen.

We show a conditional exactness statement for the Nisnevich Gersten complex associated to an $$\mathbb {A}^1$$ A 1 -invariant cohomology theory with Nisnevich descent for smooth schemes over a Dedekind ring with only infinite residue fields. As an application we derive a Nisnevich analogue of the Bloch–Ogus theorem for étale cohomology over a henselian discrete valuation ring with infinite residue field.

Emission trading systems (ETS) represent a widely used instrument to control greenhouse gas emissions, while minimizing reduction costs. In an ETS, the desired amount of emissions in a predefined time period is fixed in advance; corresponding to this amount, tradeable allowances are handed out or auctioned to companies which underlie the system. Emissions which are not covered by an allowance are subject to a penalty at the end of the time period. Emissions depend on non-deterministic parameters such as weather and the state of the economy. Therefore, it is natural to view emissions as a stochastic quantity. This introduces a challenge for the companies involved: In planning their abatement actions, they need to avoid penalty payments without knowing their total amount of emissions. We consider a stochastic control approach to address this problem: In a continuous-time model, we use the rate of emission abatement as a control in minimizing the costs that arise from penalty payments and abatement costs. In a simplified variant of this model, the resulting Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation can be solved analytically. Taking the viewpoint of a regulator of an ETS, our main interest is to determine the resulting emissions and to evaluate their compliance with the given emission target. Additionally, as an incentive for investments in low-emission technologies, a high allowance price with low variability is desirable. Both the resulting emissions and the allowance price are not directly given by the solution to the stochastic control problem. Instead we need to solve a stochastic differential equation (SDE), where the abatement rate enters as the drift term. Due to the nature of the penalty function, the abatement rate is not continuous. This means that classical results on existence and uniqueness of a solution as well as convergence of numerical methods, such as the Euler-Maruyama scheme, do not apply. Therefore, we prove similar results under assumptions suitable for our case. By applying a standard verification theorem, we show that the stochastic control approach delivers an optimal abatement rate. We extend the model by considering several consecutive time periods. This enables us to model the transfer of unused allowances to the subsequent time period. In formulating the multi-period model, we pursue two different approaches: In the first, we assume the value that the company anticipates for an unused allowance to be constant throughout one time period. We proceed similarly to the one-period model and again obtain an analytical solution. In the second approach, we introduce an additional stochastic process to simulate the evolution of the anticipated price for an unused allowance. The model so far assumes that allowances are allocated for free. Therefore, we construct another model extension to incorporate the auctioning of allowances. Then, additionally the problem of choosing the optimal demand at the auction needs to be solved. We find that the auction price equals the allowance price at the beginning of the respective time period. Furthermore, we show that the resulting emissions as well as the allowance price are unaffected by the introduction of auctioning in the setting of our model. To perform numerical simulations, we first solve the characteristic partial differential equation derived from the HJB equation by applying the method of lines. Then we apply the Euler- Maruyama scheme to solve the SDE, delivering realizations of the resulting emissions and the allowance price paths. Simulation results indicate that, under realistic settings, the probability of non-compliance with the emission target is quite large. It can be reduced for instance by an increase of the penalty. In the multi-period model, we observe that by allowing the transfer of allowances to the subsequent time period, the probability of non-compliance decreases considerably., Emissionshandelssysteme (ETS) sind ein weit verbreitetes Instrument zur Steuerung von Treibhausgasemissionen. In einem ETS wird für eine feste Zeitperiode die Menge der zulässigen Emissionen festgelegt und anschließend eine entsprechende Anzahl an Zertifikaten ausgegeben oder versteigert, die je zur Emission von einer Tonne Kohlenstoffdioxid berechtigen. Für Emissionen, die nicht durch ein Zertifikat gedeckt sind, wird am Ende der Zeitperiode eine Strafgebühr fällig. Treibhausgasemissionen hängen von zufälligen Einflüssen wie dem Wetter oder der wirtschaftlichen Lage ab. Daher ist es naheliegend, Emissionen als stochastische Größe zu betrachten. Dies stellt die Unternehmen, die dem ETS unterliegen, vor eine Herausforderung: Sie müssen eventuelle Emissionsreduktionen planen, ohne die gesamten Emissionen des entsprechenden Zeitraums zu kennen. Wir lösen dieses Problem mit Methoden der stochastischen Steuerung: In einem zeitstetigen Modell verwenden wir die Emissionsvermeidungsrate als Kontrolle, um die Kosten zu minimieren, die durch Strafzahlungen oder die Vermeidung von Emissionen entstehen. In einer einfachen Variante des Modells kann die sich ergebende Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-(HJB)-Gleichung analytisch gelöst werden. Aus der Perspektive der zuständigen regulatorischen Instanz ist von wesentlichem Interesse, wie viele Emissionen anfallen und ob die Emissionsvorgabe erfüllt wird. Zusätzlich ist ein hoher und stabiler Zertifikatspreis erstrebenswert, um einen Anreiz zur Investition in emissionsarme Technologien zu liefern. Diese Größen erhalten wir nicht direkt aus der Lösung des Steuerungsproblems. Stattdessen müssen wir eine stochastische Differentialgleichung (SDE) lösen, deren Drift die Vermeidungsrate ist. Aufgrund der Struktur der Straffunktion ist die Vermeidungsrate nicht stetig. Daher sind klassische Resultate zur Existenz und Eindeutigkeit einer Lösung sowie zur Konvergenz numerischer Methoden, wie etwa dem Euler-Maruyama-Schema, nicht anwendbar. Wir beweisen analoge Aussagen unter Verwendung von Annahmen, die an die im Modell auftretende SDE angepasst sind. Mithilfe eines klassischen Verifikationssatzes zeigen wir, dass die HJB-Gleichung eine optimale Vermeidungsrate liefert. In einer Erweiterung des Modells betrachten wir mehrere aufeinanderfolgende Zeitperioden. Dies ermöglicht uns, die Übertragung von ungenutzten Zertifikaten auf die nachfolgende Zeitperiode zu modellieren. Für die Formulierung des Mehr-Perioden-Modells verfolgen wir zwei verschiedene Ansätze: Im ersten nehmen wir an, dass die Unternehmen im ETS im Laufe einer Zeitperiode einem ungenutzten Zertifikat einen konstanten Wert zuweisen. In einem zweiten Ansatz definieren wir einen zusätzlichen stochastischen Prozess, um die Entwicklung des für ein ungenutztes Zertifikat angenommenen Preises zu simulieren. Bis hierhin haben wir in unserem Modell angenommen, dass die Zertifikate kostenlos ausgegeben werden. In einer Modellerweiterung bilden wir zusätzlich die Auktion von Zertifikaten ab. Dies erfordert die Bestimmung der optimalen Nachfrage nach Zertifikaten bei der Auktion. Wir stellen fest, dass der Auktionspreis gleich dem Marktpreis für Zertifikate zu Beginn der Zeitperiode ist. Darüber hinaus zeigen wir, dass die Versteigerung von Zertifikaten anstelle einer kostenlosen Zuteilung die anfallenden Emissionen sowie den Zertifikatspreis nicht beeinflussen. Um Simulationen in unserem Modell durchzuführen, lösen wir zunächst die partielle Differentialgleichung, die wir aus der HJB-Gleichung erhalten, unter Verwendung der vertikalen Linienmethode. Anschließend wenden wir das Euler-Maruyama-Schema an, um die SDE zu lösen. Dies liefert eine Realisierung der anfallenden Emissionen und des Preispfads. Die Ergebnisse der Simulationen weisen darauf hin, dass die Wahrscheinlichkeit, die Emissionsvorgabe zu verletzen, relativ hoch ist. Diese Wahrscheinlichkeit kann beispielsweise durch eine Erhöhung der Strafgebühr reduziert werden. Im Mehr-Perioden-Modell stellen wir fest, dass die Übertragbarkeit von Zertifikaten diese Wahrscheinlichkeit beträchtlich senkt.

In this thesis, a new concept to prove Mosco convergence of gradient-type Dirichlet forms within the \(L^2\)-framework of K.~Kuwae and T.~Shioya for varying reference measures is developed. The goal is, to impose as little additional conditions as possible on the sequence of reference measure \({(\mu_N)}_{N\in \mathbb N}\), apart from weak convergence of measures. Our approach combines the method of Finite Elements from numerical analysis with the topic of Mosco convergence. We tackle the problem first on a finite-dimensional substructure of the \(L^2\)-framework, which is induced by finitely many basis functions on the state space \(\mathbb R^d\). These are shifted and rescaled versions of the archetype tent function \(\chi^{(d)}\). For \(d=1\) the archetype tent function is given by \[\chi^{(1)}(x):=\big((-x+1)\land(x+1)\big)\lor 0,\quad x\in\mathbb R.\] For \(d\geq 2\) we define a natural generalization of \(\chi^{(1)}\) as \[\chi^{(d)}(x):=\Big(\min_{i,j\in\{1,\dots,d\}}\big(\big\{1+x_i-x_j,1+x_i,1-x_i\big\}\big)\Big)_+,\quad x\in\mathbb R^d.\] Our strategy to obtain Mosco convergence of \(\mathcal E^N(u,v)=\int_{\mathbb R^d}\langle\nabla u,\nabla v\rangle_\text{euc}d\mu_N\) towards \(\mathcal E(u,v)=\int_{\mathbb R^d}\langle\nabla u,\nabla v\rangle_\text{euc}d\mu\) for \(N\to\infty\) involves as a preliminary step to restrict those bilinear forms to arguments \(u,v\) from the vector space spanned by the finite family \(\{\chi^{(d)}(\frac{\,\cdot\,}{r}-\alpha)\) \(|\alpha\in Z\}\) for a finite index set \(Z\subset\mathbb Z^d\) and a scaling parameter \(r\in(0,\infty)\). In a diagonal procedure, we consider a zero-sequence of scaling parameters and a sequence of index sets exhausting \(\mathbb Z^d\). The original problem of Mosco convergence, \(\mathcal E^N\) towards \(\mathcal E\) w.r.t.~arguments \(u,v\) form the respective minimal closed form domains extending the pre-domain \(C_b^1(\mathbb R^d)\), can be solved by such a diagonal procedure if we ask for some additional conditions on the Radon-Nikodym derivatives \(\rho_N(x)=\frac{d\mu_N(x)}{d x}\), \(N\in\mathbb N\). The essential requirement reads \[\frac{1}{(2r)^d}\int_{[-r,r]^d}|\rho_N(x)- \rho_N(x+y)|d y \quad \overset{r\to 0}{\longrightarrow} \quad 0 \quad \text{in } L^1(d x),\, \text{uniformly in } N\in\mathbb N.\] As an intermediate step towards a setting with an infinite-dimensional state space, we let $E$ be a Suslin space and analyse the Mosco convergence of \(\mathcal E^N(u,v)=\int_E\int_{\mathbb R^d}\langle\nabla_x u(z,x),\nabla_x v(z,x)\rangle_\text{euc}d\mu_N(z,x)\) with reference measure \(\mu_N\) on \(E\times\mathbb R^d\) for \(N\in\mathbb N\). The form \(\mathcal E^N\) can be seen as a superposition of gradient-type forms on \(\mathbb R^d\). Subsequently, we derive an abstract result on Mosco convergence for classical gradient-type Dirichlet forms \(\mathcal E^N(u,v)=\int_E\langle \nabla u,\nabla v\rangle_Hd\mu_N\) with reference measure \(\mu_N\) on a Suslin space $E$ and a tangential Hilbert space \(H\subseteq E\). The preceding analysis of superposed gradient-type forms can be used on the component forms \(\mathcal E^{N}_k\), which provide the decomposition \(\mathcal E^{N}=\sum_k\mathcal E^{N}_k\). The index of the component \(k\) runs over a suitable orthonormal basis of admissible elements in \(H\). For the asymptotic form \(\mathcal E\) and its component forms \(\mathcal E^k\), we have to assume \(D(\mathcal E)=\bigcap_kD(\mathcal E^k)\) regarding their domains, which is equivalent to the Markov uniqueness of \(\mathcal E\). The abstract results are tested on an example from statistical mechanics. Under a scaling limit, tightness of the family of laws for a microscopic dynamical stochastic interface model over \((0,1)^d\) is shown and its asymptotic Dirichlet form identified. The considered model is based on a sequence of weakly converging Gaussian measures \({(\mu_N)}_{N\in\mathbb N}\) on \(L^2((0,1)^d)\), which are perturbed by a class of physically relevant non-log-concave densities.

Moderne Technologien erzeugen immer größere Datenmengen. Einerseits geht es bei hochdimensionalen Statistiken um den Einsatz von Regularisierung, um statistische Garantien zu verbessern. Andererseits sind auch rechnerische Aspekte von regularisierten Schätzern wichtig. Typischerweise werden die statistischen und rechnerischen Aspekte getrennt behandelt. In dieser Arbeit schlagen wir einen Ansatz vor, um diese beiden Aspekte im Kontext einer regularisierten Schätzung in einem Regressionssetting zu vereinen. Dann bewegen wir uns in Richtung komplexerer Modelle, die als "neuronale Netze" bezeichnet werden. In dieser Arbeit entwickeln wir eine allgemeine statistische Garantie für Schätzer, die aus einem Term der kleinsten Quadrate und einem Regularisierer bestehen. Wir entwickeln statistische Garantien für einfache neuronale Netze, die bis auf logarithmische Faktoren mit den globalen Optima übereinstimmen, aber für stationäre Punkte und die Punkte in der Nähe gelten.

Non-local boundary conditions – for example the Atiyah–Patodi–Singer (APS) conditions – for Dirac operators on Riemannian manifolds are rather well-understood, while not much is known for such operators on Lorentzian manifolds. Recently, Bär and Strohmaier [15] and Drago, Große, and Murro [27] introduced APS-like conditions for the spin Dirac operator on Lorentzian manifolds with spacelike and timelike boundary, respectively. While Bär and Strohmaier [15] showed the Fredholmness of the Dirac operator with these boundary conditions, Drago, Große, and Murro [27] proved the well-posedness of the corresponding initial boundary value problem under certain geometric assumptions. In this thesis, we will follow the footsteps of the latter authors and discuss whether the APS-like conditions for Dirac operators on Lorentzian manifolds with timelike boundary can be replaced by more general conditions such that the associated initial boundary value problems are still wellposed. We consider boundary conditions that are local in time and non-local in the spatial directions. More precisely, we use the spacetime foliation arising from the Cauchy temporal function and split the Dirac operator along this foliation. This gives rise to a family of elliptic operators each acting on spinors of the spin bundle over the corresponding timeslice. The theory of elliptic operators then ensures that we can find families of non-local boundary conditions with respect to this family of operators. Proceeding, we use such a family of boundary conditions to define a Lorentzian boundary condition on the whole timelike boundary. By analyzing the properties of the Lorentzian boundary conditions, we then find sufficient conditions on the family of non-local boundary conditions that lead to the well-posedness of the corresponding Cauchy problems. The well-posedness itself will then be proven by using classical tools including energy estimates and approximation by solutions of the regularized problems. Moreover, we use this theory to construct explicit boundary conditions for the Lorentzian Dirac operator. More precisely, we will discuss two examples of boundary conditions – the analogue of the Atiyah–Patodi–Singer and the chirality conditions, respectively, in our setting. For doing this, we will have a closer look at the theory of non-local boundary conditions for elliptic operators and analyze the requirements on the family of non-local boundary conditions for these specific examples., Über nicht-lokale Randbedingungen – zum Beispiel dieAtiyah–Patodi–Singer (APS)-Bedingungen – für Dirac Operatoren auf Riemannschen Mannigfaltigkeiten ist recht viel bekannt, während für die hyperbolischen Dirac Operatoren auf Lorentz-Mannigfaltigkeiten dies noch nicht der Fall ist. Kürzlich haben Bär und Strohmaier [15] und Drago, Große und Murro [27] APS-ähnliche Bedingungen für den Spin Dirac Operator auf Lorentz-Mannigfaltigkeiten mit raumartigen bzw. zeitartigen Rand eingeführt. Während Bär und Strohmaier [15] zeigten, dass der Dirac Operator mit diesen Randbedingungen Fredholm ist, bewiesen Drago, Große und Murro [27] die Wohlgestelltheit des entsprechenden Anfangsrandwertproblems unter bestimmten geometrischen Annahmen. In dieser Arbeit werden wir in die Fußstapfen der letztgenannten Autoren treten und diskutieren, ob die APS-ähnlichen Bedingungen für Dirac Operatoren auf Lorentz-Mannigfaltigkeiten mit zeitartigen Rand durch allgemeinere Bedingungen ersetzt werden können, sodass die zugehörigen Anfangsrandwertprobleme immer noch wohlgestellt sind. Wir betrachten Randbedingungen, die in der Zeit lokal und in den Raumrichtungen nicht-lokal sind. Genauer gesagt verwenden wir die Raumzeitblätterung, die sich aus der Cauchy Zeitfunktion ergibt, und spalten den Dirac Operator entlang dieser Foliation auf. Daraus ergibt sich eine Familie elliptischer Operatoren, die jeweils auf Spinoren des Spinbündels über den entsprechenden Zeitschnitt wirken. Die Theorie der elliptischen Operatoren stellt dann sicher, dass wir Familien von nichtlokalen Randbedingungen bezüglich dieser Familie von Operatoren finden können. Im weiteren Verlauf verwenden wir solche Familien von Randbedingungen, um eine Lorentzsche Randbedingung auf dem gesamten zeitartigen Rand zu definieren. Durch das Analysieren der Lorentzschen Randbedingungen finden wir dann hinreichende Bedingungen für die Familie der nicht-lokalen Randbedingungen, die zur Wohlgestelltheit der entsprechenden Cauchy-Probleme führen. Die Wohlgestelltheit selbst wird dann mit Hilfe klassischer Methoden bewiesen, einschließlich Energieabschätzungen und Annäherung durch Lösungen der regularisierten Probleme. Außerdem verwenden wir diese Theorie, um explizite Randbedingungen für den Lorentzschen Dirac Operator zu konstruieren. Genauer gesagt werden wir zwei Beispiele für Randbedingungen diskutieren - das Analogon der Atiyah-Patodi-Singer- bzw. Chiralitäts-Bedingungen für unseren Fall. Dazu werden wir uns die Theorie der nicht-lokalen Randbedingungen für elliptische Operatoren genauer ansehen und die Anforderungen an die Familie der nicht-lokalen Randbedingungen für diese Beispiele analysieren.

Optimization under uncertainty is one field of mathematics which is strongly inspired by real world problems. To handle uncertainties several models have arisen. One of these is the probust model where a combination of probabilistic and worst-case uncertainty is considered. So far, just problem instances with a special structure can be dealt with. In this thesis, we introduce solving techniques applicable for any probust optimization problem. On the one hand, we create upper bounds for the solution value by solving a sequence of chance constrained optimization problems. These bounds are based on discretization schemes which are inspired by semi-infinite optimization. On the other hand, we create lower bounds by solving a sequence of set-approximation problems. Here, we substitute the original event set by an appropriate family of sets. We examine the performance of the corresponding algorithms on simple packing problems where we can provide the probust solution analytically. Afterwards, we solve a water reservoir and a distillation problem and compare the probust solutions with solutions arising from other uncertainty models.

This thesis is primarily motivated by a project with Deutsche Bahn about offer preparation in rail freight transport. At its core, a customer should be offered three train paths to choose from in response to a freight train request. As part of this cooperation with DB Netz AG, we investigated how to compute these train paths efficiently. They should be all "good" but also "as different as possible". We solved this practical problem using combinatorial optimization techniques. At the beginning of this thesis, we describe the practical aspects of our research collaboration. The more theoretical problems, which we consider afterwards, are divided into two parts. In Part I, we deal with a dual pair of problems on directed graphs with two designated end-vertices. The Almost Disjoint Paths (ADP) problem asks for a maximum number of paths between the end-vertices any two of which have at most one arc in common. In comparison, for the Separating by Forbidden Pairs (SFP) problem we have to select as few arc pairs as possible such that every path between the end-vertices contains both arcs of a chosen pair. The main results of this more theoretical part are the classifications of ADP as an NP-complete and SFP as a Sigma-2-P-complete problem. In Part II, we address a simplified version of the practical project: the Fastest Path with Time Profiles and Waiting (FPTPW) problem. In a directed acyclic graph with durations on the arcs and time windows at the vertices, we search for a fastest path from a source to a target vertex. We are only allowed to be at a vertex within its time windows, and we are only allowed to wait at specified vertices. After introducing departure-duration functions we develop solution algorithms based on these. We consider special cases that significantly reduce the complexity or are of practical relevance. Furthermore, we show that already this simplified problem is in general NP-hard and investigate the complexity status more closely.

It is shown that the theory of causal fermion systems gives rise to a novel mechanism for dark matter and dark energy. This mechanism is first worked out for cubical subsets of Minkowski space with periodic boundary conditions. Then it is studied in Friedmann-Lema\^itre-Roberson-Walker spacetimes. The magnitude of the effect scales like one over the lifetime of the universe squared. In contrast to most models of dark matter and dark energy, our mechanism does not postulate any new particles. This thesis deals with the simulation of large insurance portfolios. On the one hand, we need to model the contracts' development and the insured collective's structure and dynamics. On the other hand, an important task is the forward projection of the given balance sheet. Questions that are interesting in this context, such as the question of the default probability up to a certain time or the question of whether interest rate promises can be kept in the long term, cannot be answered analytically without strong simplifications. Reasons for this are high dependencies between the insurer's assets and liabilities, interactions between existing and new contracts due to claims on a collective reserve, potential policy features such as a guaranteed interest rate, and individual surrender options of the insured. As a consequence, we need numerical calculations, and especially the volatile financial markets require stochastic simulations. Despite the fact that advances in technology with increasing computing capacities allow for faster computations, a contract-specific simulation of all policies is often an impossible task. This is due to the size and heterogeneity of insurance portfolios, long time horizons, and the number of necessary Monte Carlo simulations. Instead, suitable approximation techniques are required. In this thesis, we therefore develop compression methods, where the insured collective is grouped into cohorts based on selected contract-related criteria and then only an enormously reduced number of representative contracts needs to be simulated. We also show how to efficiently integrate new contracts into the existing insurance portfolio. Our grouping schemes are flexible, can be applied to any insurance portfolio, and maintain the existing structure of the insured collective. Furthermore, we investigate the efficiency of the compression methods and their quality in approximating the real life insurance portfolio. For the simulation of the insurance business, we introduce a stochastic asset-liability management (ALM) model. Starting with an initial insurance portfolio, our aim is the forward projection of a given balance sheet structure. We investigate conditions for a long-term stability or stationarity corresponding to the idea of a solid and healthy insurance company. Furthermore, a main result is the proof that our model satisfies the fundamental balance sheet equation at the end of every period, which is in line with the principle of double-entry bookkeeping. We analyze several strategies for investing in the capital market and for financing the due obligations. Motivated by observed weaknesses, we develop new, more sophisticated strategies. In extensive simulation studies, we illustrate the short- and long-term behavior of our ALM model and show impacts of different business forms, the predicted new business, and possible capital market crashes on the profitability and stability of a life insurer., In dieser Dissertation beschäftigen wir uns mit der Simulation von großen Lebensversicherungsbeständen. Hierzu müssen zum einen die betrachteten Verträge, die Struktur des Bestandes sowie Zu- und Abgänge modelliert werden. Zum anderen besteht eine wichtige Aufgabe darin, die gegebene Versicherungsbilanz zeitlich fortzuschreiben. In diesem Zusammenhang interessante Fragestellungen, wie die Frage nach der Höhe der Insolvenzwahrscheinlichkeit bis zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt oder die Frage, ob Zinsversprechen langfristig eingehalten werden können, lassen sich ohne grobe Vereinfachungen analytisch nicht beantworten. Gründe hierfür sind starke Abhängigkeiten zwischen Verbindlichkeiten und Vermögenspositionen des Versicherers, Interdependenzen zwischen Alt- und Neubestand über Ansprüche auf eine gemeinsame Reserve, bestimmte Vertragscharakteristiken wie eine garantierte Mindestverzinsung und individuelle Kündigungsrechte seitens der Versicherungsnehmer. Aus diesem Grund sind numerische Berechnungen und angesichts schwankender Finanzmärkte stochastische Simulationen unabdingbar. Eine vertragsgenaue Simulation mit akzeptabler Laufzeit ist jedoch aufgrund der Größe von Versicherungsbeständen, den langen Betrachtungszeiträumen von teilweise mehreren Jahrzehnten und der Anzahl der notwendigen (Monte-Carlo-) Simulationen selbst bei fortschreitender Technik mit wachsenden Rechenkapazitäten und Geschwindigkeiten moderner Computer eine oft unmögliche Herausforderung. Stattdessen benötigt man approximierende Simulationsmethoden. In dieser Arbeit entwickeln wir daher ein Verfahren zur Bestandsverdichtung, bei dem aufgrund gewählter Gruppierungsmerkmale das Versicherungskollektiv in Kohorten eingeteilt und dann lediglich eine enorm verringerte Anzahl repräsentativer Verträge simuliert werden muss. Zudem zeigen wir, wie neue Verträge in bestehende Kohorten integriert werden können, wodurch Effizienz auch bei laufendem Neugeschäft gewährleistet ist. Das Verfahren ist sehr flexibel, lässt sich auf jeden Versicherungsbestand anwenden und behält die gegebene Struktur des Bestandes bei. Ferner betrachten wir verschiedene Möglichkeiten zur Erzeugung der Kohorten und überprüfen die Approximationsgenauigkeit anhand geeigneter Gütekriterien. Für die Simulation des gesamten Versicherungsgeschäfts führen wir ein stochastisches Bilanzstrukturmodell ein. Ziel ist die Projektion der gegebenen Bilanzstruktur über den gesamten Betrachtungszeitraum. Wir untersuchen Kriterien für eine langfristige Stabilität, entsprechend der Vorstellung eines soliden und gesunden Versicherungsunternehmens. Ferner ist eines der Hauptresultate der Beweis, dass unser Modell die fundamentale Bilanzgleichung am Ende jeder Periode erfüllt. Dies steht im Einklang mit dem Prinzip der doppelten Buchführung. Wir analysieren mehrere Strategien zur Kapitalanlage und zur Finanzierung fälliger Verbindlichkeiten und nehmen beobachtete Schwächen als Anlass, neue Strategien zu entwickeln. Eine Vielzahl an Simulationsstudien illustriert das kurz- und langfristige Verhalten unseres Bilanzstrukturmodells und zeigt Auswirkungen von verschiedenen Geschäftsmodellen, des prognostizierten Neugeschäfts und möglicher Börsencrashs auf die Rentabilität und Stabilität eines Lebensversicherers.

We derive a novel thermodynamically consistent Navier–Stokes–Cahn–Hilliard system with dynamic boundary conditions. This model describes the motion of viscous incompressible binary fluids with different densities. In contrast to previous models in the literature, our new model allows for surface diffusion, a variable contact angle between the diffuse interface and the boundary, and mass transfer between bulk and surface. In particular, this transfer of material is subject to a mass conservation law including both a bulk and a surface contribution. The derivation is carried out by means of local energy dissipation laws and the Lagrange multiplier approach. Next, in the case of fluids with matched densities, we show the existence of global weak solutions in two and three dimensions as well as the uniqueness of weak solutions in two dimensions.

To study coisotropic reduction in the context of deformation quantization we introduce constraint manifolds and constraint algebras as the basic objects encoding the additional information needed to define a reduction. General properties of various categories of constraint objects and their compatiblity with reduction are examined. A constraint Serre-Swan theorem, identifying constraint vector bundles with certain finitely generated projective constraint modules, as well as a constraint symbol calculus are proved. After developing the general deformation theory of constraint algebras, including constraint Hochschild cohomology and constraint differential graded Lie algebras, the second constraint Hochschild cohomology for the constraint algebra of functions on a constraint flat space is computed., Um koisotrope Reduktion im Kontext der Deformationsquantisierung zu betrachten, werden constraint Mannigfaltigkeiten und constraint Algebren als grundlegende Objekte definiert. Wichtige Eigenschaften verschiedener zugehöriger Kategorien, sowie deren Kompatibilität mit Reduktion werden untersucht. Nach der Entwicklung der allgemeinen Deformationstheorie von constraint Algebren mithilfe von constraint Hochschild Kohomologie und constraint differentiell gradierten Lie-Algebren, wird die zweite constraint Hochschild Kohomologie im Fall eines endlich dimensionalen constraint Vektorraums berechnet.

Due to its performance, the field of deep learning has gained a lot of attention, with neural networks succeeding in areas like \( \textit{Computer Vision} \) (CV), \( \textit{Neural Language Processing} \) (NLP), and \( \textit{Reinforcement Learning} \) (RL). However, high accuracy comes at a computational cost as larger networks require longer training time and no longer fit onto a single GPU. To reduce training costs, researchers are looking into the dynamics of different optimizers, in order to find ways to make training more efficient. Resource requirements can be limited by reducing model size during training or designing more efficient models that improve accuracy without increasing network size. This thesis combines eigenvalue computation and high-dimensional loss surface visualization to study different optimizers and deep neural network models. Eigenvectors of different eigenvalues are computed, and the loss landscape and optimizer trajectory are projected onto the plane spanned by those eigenvectors. A new parallelization method for the stochastic Lanczos method is introduced, resulting in faster computation and thus enabling high-resolution videos of the trajectory and second-order information during neural network training. Additionally, the thesis presents the loss landscape between two minima along with the eigenvalue density spectrum at intermediate points for the first time. Secondly, this thesis presents a regularization method for \( \textit{Generative Adversarial Networks} \) (GANs) that uses second-order information. The gradient during training is modified by subtracting the eigenvector direction of the biggest eigenvalue, preventing the network from falling into the steepest minima and avoiding mode collapse. The thesis also shows the full eigenvalue density spectra of GANs during training. Thirdly, this thesis introduces ProxSGD, a proximal algorithm for neural network training that guarantees convergence to a stationary point and unifies multiple popular optimizers. Proximal gradients are used to find a closed-form solution to the problem of training neural networks with smooth and non-smooth regularizations, resulting in better sparsity and more efficient optimization. Experiments show that ProxSGD can find sparser networks while reaching the same accuracy as popular optimizers. Lastly, this thesis unifies sparsity and \( \textit{neural architecture search} \) (NAS) through the framework of group sparsity. Group sparsity is achieved through \( \ell_{2,1} \)-regularization during training, allowing for filter and operation pruning to reduce model size with minimal sacrifice in accuracy. By grouping multiple operations together, group sparsity can be used for NAS as well. This approach is shown to be more robust while still achieving competitive accuracies compared to state-of-the-art methods.

In group theory, a big and important family of infinite groups is given by the algebraic groups. These groups and their structures are already well-understood. In representation theory, the study of the unipotent variety in algebraic groups - and by extension the study of the nilpotent variety in the associated Lie algebra - is of particular interest. Let \( G \) be a connected reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field \(\mathbf{k}\), and let \(\operatorname{Lie}(G)\) be its associated Lie algebra. By now, the orbits in the nilpotent and unipotent variety under the action of \(G\) are completely known and can be found for example in a book of Liebeck and Seitz. There exists, however, no uniform description of these orbits that holds in both good and bad characteristic. With this in mind, Lusztig defined a partition of the unipotent variety of \(G\) in 2011. Equivalently, one can consider certain subsets of the nilpotent variety of \(\operatorname{Lie}(G)\) called the nilpotent pieces. This approach appears in the same paper by Lusztig in which he explicitly determines the nilpotent pieces for simple algebraic groups of classical type. The nilpotent pieces for the exceptional groups of type \(G_2, F_4, E_6, E_7,\) and \(E_8\) in bad characteristic have not yet been determined. This thesis gives an introduction to the definition of the nilpotent pieces and presents a solution to this problem for groups of type \(G_2, F_4, E_6\), and partly for \(E_7\). The solution relies heavily on computational work which we elaborate on in later chapters., In der Gruppentheorie bilden sogenannte algebraische Gruppen eine große und wichtige Familie von unendlichen Gruppen. Algebraische Gruppen und ihre Strukturen sind in der Vergangenheit bereits sehr ausführlich untersucht worden. Insbesondere die Struktur der unipotenten Varietät - und damit der nilpotenten Varietät in der asoziierten Lie-Algebra - ist von großem Interesse in der Darstellungstheorie. Sei \( G \) eine zusammenhängende reduktive algebraische Gruppe über einem algebraisch abgeschlossenem Körper \(\mathbf{k}\). Sei weiterhin \(\operatorname{Lie}(G)\) die zu \( G \) asoziierte Lie-Algebra. Zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt sind alle unipotenten und nilpotenten Bahnen unter der Operation einer algebraischen Gruppe bekannt. Diese sind beispielsweise ausführlich in dem Werk von Liebeck und Seitz beschrieben. Allerdings gibt es keine uniforme Beschreibung der Bahnen, die sowohl in guter als auch in schlechter Charakteristik gilt. In Betracht dieser Tatsache definierte Lusztig in 2011 eine Partition der unipotenten Varietät von \( G \). Es ist möglich, stattdessen auch bestimmte Teilmengen der nilpotenten Varietät von \(\operatorname{Lie}(G)\) zu betrachten, welche die „nilpotenten pieces“ genannt werden. Auch dieser Ansatz wird von Lusztig beschrieben. In demselben Artikel bestimmt Lusztig außerdem die nilpotenten pieces für die klassischen algebraischen Gruppen. In den exzeptionellen Gruppen vom Typ \(G_2, F_4, E_6, E_7\) und \(E_8\) müssen die nilpotenten pieces noch bestimmt werden. Diese Dissertation gibt eine Einführung in die Definition der nilpotenten pieces und stellt eine Lösung für Gruppen vom Typ \(G_2, F_4, E_6\) und teilweise \(E_7\) vor. Die Lösung hängt großteils von programmiertechnischen Verfahren ab, welche in späteren Kapiteln beleuchtet werden.

The dominant energy condition imposes a restriction on initial value pairs found on a spacelike hypersurface of a Lorentzian manifold. In this article, we study the space of initial values that satisfy this condition strictly. To this aim, we introduce an index difference for initial value pairs and compare it to its classical counterpart for Riemannian metrics. Recent non-triviality results for the latter will then imply that this space has non-trivial homotopy groups., Comment: Final version. Published in Mathematische Annalen
