The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, we characterize the existence of binary self-orthogonal codes meeting the Griesmer bound by employing Solomon-Stiffler codes and some related residual codes. Second, using such a characterization, we determine the exact value of $d_{so}(n,7)$ except for five special cases and the exact value of $d_{so}(n,8)$ except for 41 special cases, where $d_{so}(n,k)$ denotes the largest minimum distance among all binary self-orthogonal $[n, k]$ codes. Currently, the exact value of $d_{so}(n,k)$ $(k \le 6)$ was determined by Shi et al. (2022). The purpose of this paper is to solve the two conjectures on the largest minimum distance $d_{so}(n,5)$ of a binary self-orthogonal $[n,5]$ code proposed by Kim and Choi (IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, 2022). The determination of $d_{so}(n,k)$ has been a fundamental and difficult problem in coding theory because there are too many binary self-orthogonal codes as the dimension $k$ increases. Recently, Kim et al. (2021) considered the shortest self-orthogonal embedding of a binary linear code, and many binary optimal self-orthogonal $[n,k]$ codes were constructed for $k=4,5$. Kim and Choi (2022) improved some results of Kim et al. (2021) and made two conjectures on $d_{so}(n,5)$. In this paper, we develop a general method to determine the exact value of $d_{so}(n,k)$ for $k=5,6$ and show that the two conjectures made by Kim and Choi (2022) are true.

A linear code is linear complementary dual (LCD) if it meets its dual trivially. LCD codes have been a hot topic recently due to Boolean masking application in the security of embarked electronics (Carlet and Guilley, 2014). Additive codes over $\F_4$ are $\F_4$-codes that are stable by codeword addition but not necessarily by scalar multiplication. An additive code over $\F_4$ is additive complementary dual (ACD) if it meets its dual trivially. The aim of this research is to study such codes which meet their dual trivially. All the techniques and problems used to study LCD codes are potentially relevant to ACD codes. Interesting constructions of ACD codes from binary codes are given with respect to the trace Hermitian and trace Euclidean inner product. The former product is relevant to quantum codes.

A code $C = \Phi(\mathcal{C})$ is called $\mathbb{Z}_p \mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-linear if it's the Gray image of the $\mathbb{Z}_p \mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive code $\mathcal{C}$. In this paper, the rank and the dimension of the kernel of $\mathcal{C}$ are studied. Both of the codes $\langle \Phi(\mathcal{C}) \rangle$ and $\ker(\Phi(\mathcal{C}))$ are proven $\mathbb{Z}_p \mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive cyclic codes, and their generator polynomials are determined. In the paper, we firstly study the algebraic structures of $\mathbb{Z}_p \mathbb{Z}_{p^k}$-additive cyclic codes and give the generator polynomials and the minimal spanning set of these codes. Secondly, a necessary and sufficient condition for a class of $\mathbb{Z}_p\mathbb{Z}_{p^2}$-additive codes whose Gray images are linear (not necessarily cyclic) over $\mathbb{Z}_p$ is given. Moreover, as for some special families of cyclic codes over $\mathbb{Z}_{9}$ and $\mathbb{Z}_3 \mathbb{Z}_{9}$, the linearity of the Gray images is determined.

A code $C$ is called $\Z_p\Z_{p^2}$-linear if it is the Gray image of a $\Z_p\Z_{p^2}$-additive code, where $p>2$ is prime. In this paper, the rank and the dimension of the kernel of $\Z_p\Z_{p^2}$-linear codes are studied. Two bounds of the rank of a $\Z_3\Z_{9}$-linear code and the dimension of the kernel of a $\Z_p\Z_{p^2}$-linear code are given, respectively. For each value of these bounds, we give detailed construction of the corresponding code. Finally, pairs of rank and the dimension of the kernel of $\Z_3\Z_{9}$-linear codes are also considered.

There is a local ring $E$ of order $4,$ without identity for the multiplication, defined by generators and relations as $E=\langle a,b \mid 2a=2b=0,\, a^2=a,\, b^2=b,\,ab=a,\, ba=b\rangle.$ We study a special construction of self-orthogonal codes over $E,$ based on combinatorial matrices related to two-class association schemes, Strongly Regular Graphs (SRG), and Doubly Regular Tournaments (DRT). We construct quasi self-dual codes over $E,$ and Type IV codes, that is, quasi self-dual codes whose all codewords have even Hamming weight. All these codes can be represented as formally self-dual additive codes over $\F_4.$ The classical invariant theory bound for the weight enumerators of this class of codesimproves the known bound on the minimum distance of Type IV codes over $E.$, Comment: 18 pages

In this paper, two different Gray-like maps from $Z_p^\alpha\times Z_{p^k}^\beta$, where $p$ is prime, to $Z_p^n$, $n={\alpha+\beta p^{k-1}}$, denoted by $\phi$ and $\Phi$, respectively, are presented. We have determined the connection between the weight enumerators among the image codes under these two mappings. We show that if $C$ is a $Z_p Z_{p^k}$-additive code, and $C^\bot$ is its dual, then the weight enumerators of the image $p$-ary codes $\phi(C)$ and $\Phi(C^\bot)$ are formally dual. This is a partial generalization of [On $Z_{2^k}$-dual binary codes, arXiv:math/0509325], and the result is generalized to odd characteristic $p$ and mixed alphabet. Additionally, a construction of $1$-perfect additive codes in the mixed $Z_p Z_{p^2} ... Z_{p^k}$ alphabet is given.

We show that regular homogeneous two-weight $\mathbb{Z}_{p^k}$-codes where $p$ is odd and $k\geqslant 2$ with dual Hamming distance at least four do not exist.
