Abstract

The paper deals with a study of relations between the measured Ra, Rq, Rz surface roughness parameters, the traverse speed of cutting head v and the vibration parameters, PtP, RMS, vRa, generated during abrasive water jet cutting of the AISI 309 stainless steel. Equations for prediction of the surface roughness parameters were derived according to the vibration parameter and the traverse speed of cutting head. Accuracy of the equations is described according to the Euclidean distances. The results are suitable for an on-line control model simulating abrasive water jet cutting and machining using an accompanying physical phenomenon for the process control which eliminates intervention of the operator.

7. Effect of rotation direction, traverse speed, and abrasive type during the hydroabrasive disintegration of a rotating Ti6Al4V workpiece.

Abstract

In this study, a new methodology is considered for determining the rotational senses (clockwise or anti-clockwise) of a workpiece during the hydroabrasive disintegration of rotating samples. The rotational directions are taken with respect to the position of the abrasive jet, that is, keeping it on the right side of the rotating workpiece when viewed from the free end in the cartesian coordinate system. Measurements were carried out for diameter deviation, material removal rate and surface roughness as a response to machining parameters such as traverse speed, workpiece rotation direction and abrasive grain. Final diameter of the workpiece (10.28–14.12 mm), material removal rate (1154–3936 mm3/min) and surface roughness (6.65–25.43 µm) values increase with increasing value of traverse speed (5–25 mm/min) using anti-clockwise rotation with Australian garnet abrasive grains. ANOVA analysis of the responses shows that traverse speed (p = 0.000) is a statistically significant parameter for predicting all the machining responses. Abrasive type and rotational direction were statistically significant for determining diameter deviation (p = 0.017, 0.006) and material removal rate (p = 0.000, 0.000) but insignificant for surface roughness (p = 0.373, 0.367). Scanning electron microscopy provided information on the surface morphology, depicting the characteristics of the disintegrated surface. Disintegrated features, like peak and valley formations, craters, holes, cutting traces and embedded abrasive particles on the surface were observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Paper deals with advanced closed-loop on-line control model for simulation of abrasive waterjet cutting and machining using accompayning physical phenomenon for surface quality control. Experimentally, a relationship was tested between surface roughness parameter Ra, traverse speed v mm/min and vibration parameter PtP, RMS and vRa generated during experimental cutting of AISI 309. Accuracy newly derived equations for surface roughness parameter prediction is described by Euclidean distances.

Abstract

The article deals with the impact of mass flow rate of abrasive in a water jet when penetrating into a material by using the vibration analysis. The vibrations of material were recorded by sensors placed on the experimental material. Values that were studied were amplitude and FFT (Fast FourierTransform) spectrum of signal. The stainless steel AISI309 was used as the experimental material. Data recorded during the cutting process of theAWJ cutting were analysed by the LabVIEWprogramming environment. The paper outlines the course of the recorded data and the FFTspectrum of this signal. Presented here is only a part of the basic research focused on the application of vibrations as a feedback for on-line control of abrasive water jet.

Abstract

The abrasive waterjet technology is used today mainly for cutting metal materials. However, it is possible to use this technology also for cutting non-metal materials like marble or other materials whose surface must comply with specific parameters. Cutting non-metal materials using the abrasive waterjet technology is quite rare at present and we can find it mainly in laboratories. The main reason can be complicated settings of technological parameters. Technicians working with these mechanisms can predict these parameters based on their previous experience. Without such experience or when using new materials they have to make a lot of experiments to find the right technological parameters. The main task of this paper is to show how to use modern small computers to apply the automated system for the prediction of necessary parameters for the abrasive water jet cutting system which is developed at our university. This automated system can be helpful especially for the technicians who works with the abrasive waterjet technology or it may be part of robotized workplaces in future. V dnešní době je technologie hydro-abrazivního paprsku (AWJ) užívána zejména pro dělení kovových materiálů. Avšak tuto technologii je možné také využít pro dělení nekovových materiálů např. mramor nebo jiných materiálů, u kterých je důležité získat povrch s určitými parametry. Využití této technologie pro dělení nekovových materiálů je v dnešní době zatím ojedinělé, protože nastavení technologických parametrů je velice komplikované. Technici, kteří pracují s tímto zařízením, obvykle nastavují technologické parametry podle předchozích zkušeností. Pokud však nemají předchozí zkušenosti nebo pracují s novým materiálem, musí provést mnoho testů, tak aby byli schopni nalézt odpovídající technologické parametry. Článek je zaměřen na seznámení s automatizovaným systémem pro návrh technologických parametrů technologie AWJ a využití malých počítačových systémů. Tento automatizovaný systém je použitelný zejména pro techniky pracující s technologii AWJ a nebo v budoucnu může být součástí robotizovaných pracovišť v dolech.

This article deals with measurement of the thermal gradient on material during abrasive water jet cutting. The temperature was measured by thermocamera before the technological process started, during the abrasive water jet cutting process technology, and just after the cutting process. We performed measurements on several types of materials. We calculated the approximate amount of energy during the abrasive water jet cutting process technology that changes into thermoenergy, which is the current water pressure drained in a catcher tank. Abstract

The paper compares the quality of machined surface of graphite and aluminium alloy by abrasive water jet using the focusing tube with a diameter of df1 = 0.5 mm and df2 = 0.78 mm. The machining was carried out using the technology of rotating workpiece disintegration by abrasive water jet. Abrasive tangential water jet was used to carry out the experiment (water pressure p = 400 MPa). Workpieces were clamped in the rotating chucking appliance with rotation frequency n = 300 min-1. The change in focusing tube diameter caused the change in values of roughness parameters, and also caused the change of resulting shape of workpieces. Values of roughness parameters were measured using the MicroProf FRT optic profilometer.
