The article discusses the effect of rising sea levels on the Everglades, a wetlands preserve in South Florida. Topics include the imminent threat of floods and saltwater encroachment, the history of the Everglades' decreasing freshwater-saltwater transition zone and the effects of changing soil chemistry. Efforts by ecologists and hydrogeologists to develop ways to restore the freshwater flow through the region are also discussed.
