Abstract

The article reports that the Board of Regents of the University of California is considering a proposal to remove requirements requiring SAT subject tests, also called SAT II's, for applicants to the 10 campuses in the University of California system. Such a decision would increase the number applicants eligible for admission. The university's president, Mark G. Yudof, indicated he could be in favor of the plan. Standardized testing, such as the SAT, which focus on identifying "general reasoning" for potential college students has been found to be biased based upon students' socioeconomic background.
