Summary: The problem of practical predefined‐time tracking control is con sidered for high‐order strict‐feedback nonlinear systems subject to unknown mismatched disturbances. The exact bound of the mismatched disturbances is unknown in this study. A novel adaptive predefined‐time tracking control strategy based on backstepping is proposed by applying a predefined time stability theory. Using the designed tracking controller, all signals are bounded, and a user‐defined bound on the tracking error is ensured in a predefined interval, independent of initial states. The estimation parameters associated with the upper bound of the disturbances are updated adaptively, making the system robust to the disturbances. In this note, we address the output regulation problem for a class of large-scale nonlinear systems with a neurally stable uncertain exosystem via a decentralized error feedback adaptive control strategy. The problem of bearing-based formation control with disturbance rejection has been studied by quite a few papers under various assumptions on the disturbances such as constant disturbances, trigonometric polynomial disturbances or bounded uniformly continuous disturbances with known bounds. In this paper, we further study the same problem with the disturbances being bounded piecewise continuous time functions. We first consider the case where the bounds of the disturbances are known. We show that the problem can be solved by a distributed static state feedback control law. Then we further consider the case where the bounds of the disturbances are unknown. We manage to solve this problem by introducing the adaptive control technique to deal with the unknown bounds of the disturbances. Our results include all the existing results on the bearing-based formation control with disturbance rejection as special cases. In this paper, we study the cooperative output regulation problem of linear heterogeneous multi-agent systems subject to an uncertain leader system. A key component of our control law is the adaptive distributed observer for an uncertain leader system proposed recently by ourselves. We first show that this adaptive distributed observer is capable of estimating the unknown parameter vector of the leader system exponentially as long as the leader's signal is persistently exciting. Then, we further solve our problem by both distributed state feedback control law and distributed measurement output feedback control law utilising the adaptive distributed observer. In this paper, we study the asymptotic output tracking problem for a class of minimum phase uncertain linear discrete-time multi-agent systems over jointly connected digraphs. As the systems contain arbitrarily large uncertain parameters, the robust feedback control technique does not work. We develop a distributed adaptive control law composed of a distributed observer and a purely decentralised adaptive control law. We first establish a stability result for a class of linear switched systems, which extends the existing results. This stability result leads to a novel distributed observer for the leader system which estimates the leader's signal using the output of the leader system locally and passes the estimated leader's signal to each follower. We then further show that the distributed adaptive control law solves our problem under some mild conditions. An example is used to illustrate the effectiveness and generality of our approach. In this paper, we first propose a self-tuning distributed observer for a multi-agent system, which is capable of providing the estimation of the leader's signal to various followers without assuming all the followers know the system matrix of the leader. We then further develop a novel adaptive distributed control law to solve the cooperative output regulation problem for linear heterogeneous multi-agent systems. This control law offers two advantages in that it makes less use of the information of the network as well as the information of the leader and external disturbances, and it avoids calculating the observer gain. The problem of distributed cooperative control for networked multiagent systems is investigated in this paper. Each agent is modeled as an uncertain nonlinear high-order system incorporating with model uncertainty, unknown external disturbance, and actuator fault. The communication network between followers can be an undirected or a directed graph, and only some of the follower agents can obtain the commands from the leader. To develop the distributed cooperative control algorithm, a prefilter is designed, which can derive the state-space representation to a newly constructed plant. Then, a set of distributed adaptive neural network controllers are designed by making certain modifications on traditional backstepping techniques with the aid of adaptive control, neural network control, and a second-order sliding mode estimator. Rigorous proving procedures are provided, which show that uniform ultimate boundedness of all the tracking errors can be achieved in a networked multiagent system. The leader-following consensus problem for multiple Euler-Lagrange systems has been extensively studied for various scenarios. Under the assumption that the communication graph is jointly connected, one of our recent papers gave the solution for the case where the leader system can generate a combination of arbitrary step signal, arbitrary ramp signal, and arbitrary sinusoidal signals. In practice, it is desirable to enable the control law the capability of maintaining the connectivity of the communication graph, thus achieving the leader-following consensus without assuming the connectivity of the communication graph. We call such a problem as leader-following consensus with connectivity preservation. By combining the adaptive control technique and potential function technique, we will show that such a problem is solvable. This paper studies the leader-following rendezvous with connectivity preservation problem for multiple double-integrator systems subject to external disturbances via a self-tuning adaptive distributed observer approach. This approach offers two advantages over the existing approach. First, it removes the existing assumption that all the followers know the system matrix of the leader system. Second, the difficult task of calculating the observer gain is avoided by the employment of the dynamic observer gain. A rigorous analysis shows that our control law is capable of maintaining the connectivity of any initial connected communication network, and achieving the asymptotic tracking and disturbance rejection for a class of leader's signals and external disturbances, which can be the algebraic sum or multiplication of any polynomial functions with any unknown coefficients and sinusoidal functions with arbitrary unknown amplitudes, initial phases, and any frequencies. In this paper, we study the leader-following consensus problem for a class of uncertain nonlinear multi-agent systems under jointly connected directed switching networks. The uncertainty includes constant unbounded parameters and external disturbances. We first extend the recent result on the adaptive distributed observer from global asymptotical convergence to global exponential convergence. Then, by integrating the conventional adaptive control technique with the adaptive distributed observer, we present our solution by a distributed adaptive state feedback control law. Recently, we studied the problem of estimating the unknown frequencies of discrete-time multi-tone sinusoidal signals. However, the result has two limitations. The first one is that the result is not global and the second one is that the algorithm works only if the constant adaptation gain of the adaptive law is sufficiently small. In this paper, by replacing the constant adaptation gain of our previous design with a time-varying adaptation gain, we overcome the two limitations in our previous result. The surface-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor is a two-input, two-output nonlinear system. The multi-input, multi-output nature of the system has posed some specific challenges to various control methods. Recently, the robust output regulation problem of the system subject to a known neutrally stable exosystem was studied. The problem came down to a global robust stabilization problem of an augmented system composed of the original plant and an internal model. In this paper, we will further study the robust output regulation problem of the system subject to an unknown neutrally stable exosystem. Like in the case where the exosystem is known, the current problem can be solved by globally stabilizing an augmented system. But unlike in the case where the exosystem is known, the augmented system takes a much more complicated form because of uncertainty in the exosystem than the case where the exosystem is known. In particular, the dynamic uncertainty in the current augmented system contains linearly parameterized uncertainty, and hence is not input-to-state stable. By utilizing some dynamic coordinate transformation technique, and combining some robust control and adaptive control techniques, we will solve the problem via a recursive approach. SUMMARY The asymptotic rejection of spacecraft systems under multi-tone sinusoidal disturbances has been studied recently for the case where the frequencies of the disturbance are known. In this paper, we further consider the case where the frequencies of the disturbance are unknown. We show that this case can be solved by an adaptive regulation technique. Abstract: This paper generalizes our recent results on global robust output regulation of output feedback systems with integral input-to-state stable (iISS) inverse dynamics in two aspects. First, we consider the general relative degree case instead of the unity relative degree case. For this purpose, the one step approach proposed previously has to be generalized to a recursive approach. Second, we allow the exosystem to be uncertain. For this purpose, we need to introduce an adaptive control technique to estimate the unknown parameter vector in the exosystem. Abstract: In this paper, we study the cooperative global adaptive output regulation problem for a class of nonlinear uncertain multi-agent systems subject to an uncertain leader system. In comparison with the case where the leader system is known exactly, we need to combine adaptive control and robust control techniques to deal with the unknown parameters in the leader system. By employing a distributed internal model for the multi-agent system, we first convert the problem into a global adaptive robust stabilization problem of a distributed augmented system. Then we further solve the global adaptive stabilization problem of the augmented system by a distributed adaptive control law. A new decoder architecture for nonbinary low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes is presented in this paper to reduce the hardware operational complexity in VLSI implementations. The low decoding complexity is achieved by employing adaptive message control (AMC) that dynamically trims the message length of belief information to reduce the amount of memory accesses and arithmetic operations. To implement the proposed AMC, we develop the architecture of a horizontal sequential nonbinary LDPC decoder. Key components in the architecture have been designed with the consideration of variable message lengths to leverage the benefit of the proposed AMC. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed nonbinary LDPC decoder architecture can significantly reduce hardware operations and power consumption as compared with existing work with negligible performance degradation. Abstract: The global robust stabilization problem of cascaded systems with dynamic uncertainty has been approached by the small gain theorem. This method, however, does not produce an explicit Lyapunov function for the closed-loop system. In this paper, we develop a Lyapunov''s direct method based recursive approach to solving the global robust stabilization problem for the mentioned systems. This method also produces an explicit Lyapunov function for the closed-loop system which is a superposition of those of individual subsystems. The dynamic surface control (DSC) technique was developed recently by Swaroop et at This technique simplified the backstepping design for the control of nonlinear systems in strict-feedback form by overcoming the problem of "explosion of complexity?' It was later extended to adaptive backstepping design for nonlinear systems with linearly parameterized uncertainty. In this paper, by incorporating this design technique into a neural network based adaptive control design framework, we have developed a backstepping based control design for a class of nonlinear systems in strict-feedback form with arbitrary uncertainty. Our development is able to eliminate the problem of "explosion of complexity" inherent in the existing method. In addition, a stability analysis is given which shows that our control law can guarantee the uniformly ultimate boundedness of the solution of the closed-loop system, and make the tracking error arbitrarily small. A procedure is developed for the design of adaptive neural network controller for a class of SISO uncertain nonlinear systems in pure-feedback form. The design procedure is a combination of adaptive backstepping and neural network based design techniques. While the estimation problem of the unknown frequencies for a continuous-time multi-tone sinusoidal signal was thoroughly solved in the early 2000s, the discrete-time version of this problem was studied only recently via a nonlinear control approach. In this paper, we present a simpler approach to the estimation problem of the unknown frequencies for a discrete-time multi-tone sinusoidal signal. Our approach only involves the design of two linear filters together with a linear adaptation law. As a result, the implementation of our two linear filters is easier than that of nonlinear ones. Moreover, the linear form of our filters lends itself to the establishment of the exponential convergence of the estimated frequencies to their actual values. In addition, we obtain an interesting exponential stability result for a class of discrete-time linear time-varying systems that can be viewed as a discrete-time counterpart of a well-known stability result arising from continuous-time adaptive identification. Abstract: The parameter convergence of nonlinear adaptive control systems is an important yet not well addressed issue. In this paper, using the global robust output regulation problem of output feedback systems with unknown exosystems as a platform, we will show that the well known persistency of excitation (PE) condition still guarantees the convergence of the estimated parameter vector to the true parameter vector.
