Examines whether differences between adolescent adjustment problems in divorced families and intact families can be explained by parental conflicts and parents' level of involvement. Determined the quality of mother's parenting and father's involvement explained the association between divorce and boys' externalizing problems; the quality of mother's parenting and post-divorce conflict explained the relationship between divorce and girls' externalizing problems. Several theoretical perspectives regarding the manner in which parental behavior might increase the probability that an adolescent will engage in dating violence were tested using 113 adolescent males. Frequent exposure to corporal punishment increased the risk of dating violence; interparental aggression did not. Low support and involvement by parents was associated with adolescent delinquency and drug use, which, in turn, predicted involvement in dating violence. (Author/MKA)
