Abstract

This article traces the identity development of a young adult against the background of adolescence and migration. After the discussion of psychoanalytic theories on this topic, I use excerpts from protocols of a long-term psychotherapy in order to show significant processes of change. By doing so, I show the importance of both the pre-migratory personality and the provision of »transitional spaces« in order to enable necessary identity adjustments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
