The article is an attempt to outline some problems regarding the literary and non-literary factors which are at work in the formation of the canon. The central example used in this analysis is the interactions between aesthetic and ideological principles in the treatments of Estonian literature of the Soviet period. As this example shows, these principles intertwine on many levels -- from interpretation of single texts to the factors constituting the understanding of literary history and the literary canon -- which makes the interactions of different principles a complicated sphere indicating the need for reviewing the national canons in the comparative context and especially for further comparative studies of the literatures that share a similar historical experience from the 20th century. An ordinary reader (that is anyone but a literary critic) watches in perplexity the years after 1989: it would be difficult for him to say what happened. I have often been asked to give an answer, as short as possible, to such a query: How should we understand the state of Romanian literature in the Post-December period? Where do these disturbances come from? What has changed? What specific tendencies have emerged? How can one draw the diagram of aesthetic tensions and how can one describe the tectonic of the literary genres and values, without going into the specific problems of the prose, poetry, theatre, literary criticism or history? This article argues for the inclusion of santafesina (of Santa Fe, Argentina) poets Marilyn Contardi and Estela Figueroa in the canon of 1980s Argentinean literature. The essay examines both the established names from the Argentinean literary field of the era, as well as current research agendas. Attention is placed mainly on the quality of the writing in the aesthetic dispute, not on the rhythms of the market, the publishing house parameters, or the rituals and places that assure a reputation to an author. The article analyzes the aesthetic strangeness of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, with an emphasis on the process of canonization. The article notes that one of the strongest, and perhaps most significant reaffirmations of Ibsen's canonicity during recent decades highlights a much overlooked controversy in the early phase of Ibsen's reception in the English-speaking world. It should initially be noted that the perception of Ibsen's provincialism seems to have been a general feature of his reception in many countries.
