Olive pomace has been the subject of significant scientific research, yet studies specifically focusing on the circular economy (CE) are less frequent. To address this gap, a bibliometric analysis was conducted on 1,835 articles from the Scopus database, covering the period from 1993 to 2023. This analysis examined the interrelationships among countries, authors, organizations, and journals using Bibliometrix and VOSViewer software. The results show a growing trend in publications since 2010, peaking at 245 publications. Initially, research was focused on olive oil, but over the past decade, interest has shifted towards olive pomace and circular economy. Italy, Spain, and Portugal are the leading countries in this field, with Spain standing out for its number of publications and active research organizations. The University of Jaén, particularly its Department of Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering, is the most productive organization. The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry is the most prominent journal, and authors Castro E., Perego P., and Aliakbarian B. are the most influential. Key research trends in the circular economy include the optimization of biomass conversion processes for energy generation, the extraction of bioactive compounds and enzymes, the application of biofertilizers in organic farming, and the valorization of waste as building materials. Further studies are needed to assess the scalability of these research areas and to promote sustainability through the development of more efficient and ecofriendly technologies and practices.
