Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based object detection methods are widely used in traffic detection due to their high flexibility and extensive coverage. In recent years, with the increasing complexity of the urban road environment, UAV object detection algorithms based on deep learning have gradually become a research hotspot. However, how to further improve algorithmic efficiency in response to the numerous and rapidly changing road elements, and thus achieve high-speed and accurate road object detection, remains a challenging issue. Given this context, this paper proposes the high-efficiency multi-object detection algorithm for UAVs (HeMoDU). HeMoDU reconstructs a state-of-the-art, deep-learning-based object detection model and optimizes several aspects to improve computational efficiency and detection accuracy. To validate the performance of HeMoDU in urban road environments, this paper uses the public urban road datasets VisDrone2019 and UA-DETRAC for evaluation. With the rapid development of adversarial example technologies, the concept of adversarial patches has been proposed, which can successfully transfer adversarial attacks to the real world and fool intelligent object detection systems. However, the real-world environment is complex and changeable, and the adversarial patch attack technology is susceptible to real-world factors, resulting in a decrease in the success rate of attack. Existing adversarial-patch-generation algorithms have a single direction of patch initialization and do not fully consider the impact of initial diversification on its upper limit of adversarial patch attack. Therefore, this paper proposes an initial diversified adversarial patch generation technology to improve the effect of adversarial patch attacks on the underlying algorithms in the real world. The method uses YOLOv4 as the attack model, and the experimental results show that the attack effect of the adversarial-patch-attack method proposed in this paper is higher than the baseline 8.46%, and it also has a stronger attack effect and fewer training rounds. In order to address the challenges of identifying, detecting, and tracking moving objects in video surveillance, this paper emphasizes image-based dynamic entity detection. It delves into the complexities of numerous moving objects, dense targets, and intricate backgrounds. Leveraging the You Only Look Once (YOLOv3) algorithm framework, this paper proposes improvements in image segmentation and data filtering to address these challenges. These enhancements form a novel multi-object detection algorithm based on an improved YOLOv3 framework, specifically designed for video applications. Experimental validation demonstrates the feasibility of this algorithm, with success rates exceeding 60% for videos such as "jogging", "subway", "video 1", and "video 2". Notably, the detection success rates for "jogging" and "video 1" consistently surpass 80%, indicating outstanding detection performance. Although the accuracy slightly decreases for "Bolt" and "Walking2", success rates still hover around 70%. Comparative analysis with other algorithms reveals that this method's tracking accuracy surpasses that of particle filters, Discriminative Scale Space Tracker (DSST), and Scale Adaptive Multiple Features (SAMF) algorithms, with an accuracy of 0.822. This indicates superior overall performance in target tracking. Therefore, the improved YOLOv3-based multi-object detection and tracking algorithm demonstrates robust filtering and detection capabilities in noise-resistant experiments, making it highly suitable for various detection tasks in practical applications. This paper thoroughly explores the role of object detection in smart cities, specifically focusing on advancements in deep learning-based methods. Deep learning models gain popularity for their autonomous feature learning, surpassing traditional approaches. Despite progress, challenges remain, such as achieving high accuracy in urban scenes and meeting real-time requirements. The study aims to contribute by analyzing state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms, identifying accurate models for smart cities, and evaluating real-time performance using the Average Precision at Medium Intersection over Union (IoU) metric. The reported results showcase various algorithms' performance, with Dynamic Head (DyHead) emerging as the top scorer, excelling in accurately localizing and classifying objects. Its high precision and recall at medium IoU thresholds signify robustness. The object detection task is to locate and classify objects in an image. The current state‐of‐the‐art high‐accuracy object detection algorithms rely on complex networks and high computational cost. These algorithms have high requirements on the memory resource and computing capability of the deployed device, and are difficult to apply to mobile and embedded devices. Through the depthwise separable convolution and multiple efficient network structures, this paper designs a lightweight backbone network and two different multiscale feature fusion structures, and proposes a lightweight one‐stage object detection algorithm—MiniYOLO. With the model size of only 4.2 MB, MiniYOLO still maintains a high detection accuracy, realizing the trade‐off between the model size and detection accuracy. Experimental results on MS COCO 2017 data set show that compared to the state‐of‐the‐art PP‐YOLO‐tiny, MiniYOLO achieves higher mAP with the same model size. Aiming at the problems of the difficult extraction of small target feature information, complex background, and variable target scale in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) aerial photography images. In this paper, an anchor-free target detection algorithm based on fully convolutional one-stage object detection (FCOS) for UAV aerial photography images is proposed. For the problem of complex backgrounds, the global context module is introduced in the ResNet50 network, which is combined with feature pyramid networks (FPN) as the backbone feature extraction network to enhance the feature representation of targets in complex backgrounds. To address the problem of the difficult detection of small targets, an adaptive feature balancing sub-network is designed to filter the invalid information generated at all levels of feature fusion, strengthen multi-layer features, and improve the recognition capability of the model for small targets. To address the problem of variable target scales, complete intersection over union (CIOU) Loss is used to optimize the regression loss and strengthen the model's ability to locate multi-scale targets. The algorithm of this paper is compared quantitatively and qualitatively on the VisDrone dataset. The experiments show that the proposed algorithm improves 4.96% on average precision (AP) compared with the baseline algorithm FCOS, and the detection speed is 35 frames per second (FPS), confirming that the algorithm has satisfactory detection performance, real-time inference speed, and has effectively improved the problem of missed detection and false detection of targets in UAV aerial images. Object detection is one of the core technologies for autonomous driving. Current road object detection mainly relies on visible light, which is prone to missed detections and false alarms in rainy, night-time, and foggy scenes. Multispectral object detection based on the fusion of RGB and infrared images can effectively address the challenges of complex and changing road scenes, improving the detection performance of current algorithms in complex scenarios. However, previous multispectral detection algorithms suffer from issues such as poor fusion of dual-mode information, poor detection performance for multi-scale objects, and inadequate utilization of semantic information. To address these challenges and enhance the detection performance in complex road scenes, this paper proposes a novel multispectral object detection algorithm called MRD-YOLO. In MRD-YOLO, we utilize interaction-based feature extraction to effectively fuse information and introduce the BIC-Fusion module with attention guidance to fuse different modal information. We also incorporate the SAConv module to improve the model's detection performance for multi-scale objects and utilize the AIFI structure to enhance the utilization of semantic information. Finally, we conduct experiments on two major public datasets, FLIR_Aligned and M3FD. Intelligent gangue sorting with high precision is of vital importance for improving coal quality. To tackle the challenges associated with coal gangue target detection, including algorithm performance imbalance and hardware deployment difficulties, in this paper, an intelligent gangue separation system that adopts the elevated YOLO-v5 algorithm and dual-energy X-rays is proposed. Firstly, images of dual-energy X-ray transmission coal gangue mixture under the actual operation of a coal mine were collected, and datasets for training and validation were self-constructed. Then, in the YOLOv5 backbone network, the EfficientNetv2 was used to replace the original cross stage partial darknet (CSPDarknet) to achieve the lightweight of the backbone network; in the neck, a light path aggregation network (LPAN) was designed based on PAN, and a convolutional block attention module (CBAM) was integrated into the BottleneckCSP of the feature fusion block to raise the feature acquisition capability of the network and maximize the learning effect. Subsequently, to accelerate the rate of convergence, an efficient intersection over union (EIOU) was used instead of the complete intersection over union (CIOU) loss function. Finally, to address the problem of low resolution of small targets leading to missed detection, an L2 detection head was introduced to the head section to improve the multi-scale target detection performance of the algorithm. The experimental results indicate that in comparison with YOLOv5-S, the same version of the algorithm proposed in this paper increases by 19.2% and 32.4% on mAP @.5 and mAP @.5:.95, respectively. The number of parameters decline by 51.5%, and the calculation complexity declines by 14.7%. With the increasingly maturing technology of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), their applications are becoming more and more widespread. In order to meet operational requirements in complex scenarios, the real-time interaction and linkage of a large amount of information is required between USVs, between USVs and mother ships, and between USVs and shore-based monitoring systems. Visual images are the main perceptual information gathered from USVs, and their efficient transmission and recognition directly affect the real-time performance of information exchange. However, poor maritime communication signals, strong channel interference, and low bandwidth pose great challenges to efficient image transmission. Traditional image transmission methods have difficulty meeting the real-time and image quality requirements of visual image transmissions from USVs. Therefore, this paper proposes an efficient method for visual image transmission from USVs based on semantic communication. A self-encoder network for semantic encoding which compresses the image into low-dimensional latent semantics through the encoding end, thereby preserving semantic information while greatly reducing the amount of data transmitted, is designed. On the other hand, a generative adversarial network is designed for semantic decoding. The decoding end decodes and reconstructs high-quality images from the semantic information transmitted through the channel, thereby improving the efficiency of image transmission. The experimental results show that the performance of the algorithm is significantly superior to traditional image transmission methods, achieving the best image quality while transmitting the minimum amount of data. Compared with the typical BPG algorithm, when the compression ratio of the proposed algorithm is 51.6% of that of the BPG algorithm, the PSNR and SSIM values are 7.6% and 5.7% higher than the BPG algorithm, respectively. The detection of road damage is highly important for traffic safety and road maintenance. Conventional detection approaches frequently require significant time and expenditure, the accuracy of detection cannot be guaranteed, and they are prone to misdetection or omission problems. Therefore, this paper introduces an enhanced version of the You Only Look Once version 8 (YOLOv8) road damage detection algorithm called RDD-YOLO. First, the simple attention mechanism (SimAM) is integrated into the backbone, which successfully improves the model's focus on crucial details within the input image, enabling the model to capture features of road damage more accurately, thus enhancing the model's precision. Second, the neck structure is optimized by replacing traditional convolution modules with GhostConv. This reduces redundant information, lowers the number of parameters, and decreases computational complexity while maintaining the model's excellent performance in damage recognition. Last, the upsampling algorithm in the neck is improved by replacing the nearest interpolation with more accurate bilinear interpolation. This enhances the model's capacity to maintain visual details, providing clearer and more accurate outputs for road damage detection tasks. Experimental findings on the RDD2022 dataset show that the proposed RDD-YOLO model achieves an mAP50 and mAP50-95 of 62.5% and 36.4% on the validation set, respectively. Compared to baseline, this represents an improvement of 2.5% and 5.2%. The F1 score on the test set reaches 69.6%, a 2.8% improvement over the baseline. The YOLO series of algorithms have made substantial contributions to the detection of insulator defects in power transmission line operations. However, existing target detection algorithms for the small target detection and low‐quality insulator images encounter difficulties in effectively capturing relevant features, resulting in a higher probability of target loss. To identify and classify defects in the operational state of insulators, an improved YOLOv8 target identification algorithm called DGW‐YOLOv8 is proposed in this paper. The deformable attention backbone of the DGW‐YOLOv8 target identification algorithm is designed by adding the deformable ConvNets v2 module and the global attention mechanism. This addition reduces the feature loss caused by the network feature processing, enhances the sensitivity of the algorithm to small‐scale targets, and reduces the impact caused by the different global positions of the targets. Additionally, to address the problem of low quality of captured images, WIoU v3 is used to replace CIoU in the original YOLOv8 target identification algorithm to optimize the loss function, reduce the degrees of freedom, and improve the network robustness. In substation lightning rod meter reading data taking, the classical object detection model is not suitable for deployment in substation monitoring hardware devices due to its large size, large number of parameters, and slow detection speed, while is difficult to balance detection accuracy and real-time requirements with the existing lightweight object detection model. To address this problem, this paper constructs a lightweight object detection algorithm, YOLOv5-Meter Reading Lighting (YOLOv5-MRL), based on the improved YOLOv5 model's speed while maintaining accuracy. Then, the YOLOv5s are pruned based on the convolutional kernel channel soft pruning algorithm, which greatly reduces the number of parameters in the YOLOv5-MRL model while maintaining a certain accuracy loss. Finally, in order to facilitate the dial reading, the dial external circle fitting method is proposed to calculate the dial reading using the circular angle algorithm. The experimental results on the self-built dataset show that the YOLOv5-MRL object detection model achieves a mean average precision of 96.9%, a detection speed of 5 ms/frame, and a model weight size of 5.5 MB, making it better than other advanced dial reading models. Deep neural network models have become powerful tools of machine learning and artificial intelligence. They can approximate functions and dynamics by learning from examples. This paper reviews the state-of-art of deep learning-based object detection frameworks that are used for fruit detection in general and for olive fruit in particular. A dataset of olive fruit on the tree is built to train and evaluate deep models. The ultimate goal of this work is the capability of on-edge real-time olive fruit detection on the tree from digital videos. Recent work in deep neural networks has led to the development of a state-of-the-art object detector termed You Only Look Once version five (YOLOv5). This paper builds a dataset of 1.2 K source images of olive fruit on the tree and evaluates the latest object detection algorithms focusing on variants of YOLOv5 and YOLOR. The results of the YOLOv5 models show that the YOLOv5 new network models are able to extract rich olive features from images and detect the olive fruit with a high precision of higher than 0.75 mAP_0.5. The ridge beast is a beast placed on the ridge of the roof of ancient Chinese buildings, not only has a decorative function, and has a strict hierarchical meaning, the number and form of the ridge beast placed on different levels of buildings are strictly limited. The detection technology of ridge beast decorative parts has important application value in the fields of fine 3D reconstruction of ancient buildings, historical dating and cultural and tourism services. Aiming at the problem of poor detection performance of traditional detection algorithms due to high texture similarity and poor discrimination of ridge beast, this paper proposed an improved YOLOv3 based detection algorithm for ridge beast decorative pieces. In terms of basic network improvement, local features are aggregated to the deep separable convolution internal embedding summation layer, and point convolution is used to connect the channel information of original features and aggregated features, so as to expand the receptive field and learn more diverse features. The residual structure of the feature extraction network was constructed by using the convolution, and the extraction effect of the model on the fine-grained features of the ridge beast was optimized, so that the detection accuracy was improved. In the prediction head improvement of the model, the original linear structure was reconstructed, and the extrusion and excitation modules were introduced to model the channel relationship of multi-scale feature map, which suppressed the response of interference signals and made the feature more directivity. The parallel 1 × 1 and 3 × 3 convolution are used to construct a multi-size convolution structure, which enhances the semantic information extraction ability of the model and further improves the detection effect. Experiments were conducted on the constructed ridge-beast dataset, and the results showed that the mAP of the improved algorithm can reach 86.48%, which is 3.05% higher than YOLO-v3, and the model parameters are reduced by 70%, which has a better detection performance and can provide a reference for the automated detection of ancient building components. Traditional camera sensors rely on human eyes for observation. However, human eyes are prone to fatigue when observing objects of different sizes for a long time in complex scenes, and human cognition is limited, which often leads to judgment errors and greatly reduces efficiency. Object recognition technology is an important technology used to judge the object's category on a camera sensor. In order to solve this problem, a small-size object detection algorithm for special scenarios was proposed in this paper. The advantage of this algorithm is that it not only has higher precision for small-size object detection but also can ensure that the detection accuracy for each size is not lower than that of the existing algorithm. There are three main innovations in this paper, as follows: (1) A new downsampling method which could better preserve the context feature information is proposed. (2) The feature fusion network is improved to effectively combine shallow information and deep information. (3) A new network structure is proposed to effectively improve the detection accuracy of the model. From the point of view of detection accuracy, it is better than YOLOX, YOLOR, YOLOv3, scaled YOLOv5, YOLOv7-Tiny, and YOLOv8. Three authoritative public datasets are used in these experiments: (a) In the Visdron dataset (small-size objects), the map, precision, and recall ratios of DC-YOLOv8 are 2.5%, 1.9%, and 2.1% higher than those of YOLOv8s, respectively. This paper presents the performance analysis of object detection algorithms using phase and statistical texture features. Robust metrics like accuracy and precision are used to perform the evaluation. Feature extraction is one of the prime requirements to represent an object. This paper provides a comprehensive and broad framework to phase feature and statistical feature extraction techniques and compares their performance in terms of accuracy and precision. In phase-based approach of object detection group of phase features are used to model the background. Whereas we represented the statistics of object by calculating GLCM features of the block images in statistical feature extraction methods. Support Vector machine algorithm is used to classify object. This method is developed to achieve higher accuracy and speed. Performance analysis of these two methods shows that phase feature is robust to illumination variations. Also, the obtained accuracy is good, but the computational complexity is high. Chip contour detection aims to detect damaged chips in chip slots during IC packaging and testing using vision facilities. However, the operation speed of the new chip transportation machine is too fast, and the current chip contour detection models, such as Yolov5, M3-Yolov5, FGHSE-Yolov5, and GSEH-Yolov5, running on the embedded platform, Jetson Nano, cannot detect chip contours in a timely manner. Therefore, there must be a rapid response for chip contour detection. This paper introduces the DSGSE-Yolov5s algorithm, which can accelerate object detection and image recognition to resolve this problem. Additionally, this study makes a performance comparison between the different models. Compared with the traditional model Yolov5, the proposed DSGSE-Yolov5s algorithm can significantly promote the speed of object detection by 132.17% and slightly increase the precision by 0.85%. Visual sensors are widely deployed in many promising detection fields, such as precision measurement, visual object detection and search. Instance search is a special object search method based on visual sensor, which is of fundamental importance to many applications, including the area of civil and military. Although a quantity of instance search solutions has been proposed, it remains a critical challenge to provide a real-time, lightweight labeling, easy to deploy and able to simultaneous-object-positioning-and-classification method. To address the challenge, a novel instance search method named Faster-FIIS-GMS is described in this paper. The improved Faster R-CNN with the MRFR (Multi-Receptive Field Residual module) and the APM (Adaptive Proposals Mechanism) is proposed to achieve more accurate and time-saving object detection and background information elimination simultaneously. Next, a novel image matching method named Fast Intensity Initial Screening Algorithm (FIIS) is introduced to filter foreground information in an image preliminarily and then combined with Grid-based Motion Statistics (GMS) to achieve the final searching. The performance of Faster-FIIS-GMS is analyzed and validated by experimental tests in a dataset annotated by manual, and the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method has great potential in instance search for real scene environment, as it achieves high accuracy and satisfactory real time performance using the general computer. In view of the existing traffic signal detection algorithms, which require a large amount of computation and model, are difficult to deploy at the embedded end, and are difficult to detect long-distance traffic signals with a high miss rate, this paper designs a lightweight traffic signal detection algorithm for the embedded end, which aims at lightweight and real-time requirements. GhostNet network Ghost module and Ghost bottleneck layer structure are adopted to reduce the number of model parameters and improve the detection speed. To solve the feature similarity problem, the weighted bidirectional feature pyramid network is used to make the algorithm more sensitive to the target. The dense void space pyramid pool is used to optimize the extraction of global context information. Aiming at the problem of small target recognition, the information extraction of small target is enhanced through the improvement of multi-scale detection. Finally, the learning ability of the model is improved through knowledge distillation, and the detection performance is improved. Experimental results show that the recognition accuracy and recall rate of traffic lights by this detection algorithm reach 97.0% and 99% respectively, 2.7 and 3 percentage points higher than that of YOLOv5s. The model size is reduced to 8.06 MB, 58% of that of YOLOv5s, and the recognition rate is increased from 51 frames per second to 56 frames per second. Rockfall intrusion detection is crucial for the safety management of railway operations, and video detection methods help reduce deployment costs and improve detection efficiency. Mainstream neural network-based video detection methods have rapidly evolved in recent years but struggle to adapt to complex scenarios such as existing railway slope constructions due to weak generalization ability, low accuracy, and limited information acquisition. Therefore, this paper introduces a dynamic neural network detection model and establishes a dataset for rockfall intrusions in existing railway slope scenarios. The model initially relies on the YOLOv5 neural network, adopting an activation function suitable for the target scenario and addressing overfitting to achieve precise target recognition. Based on the neural network, the model dynamically detects rolling rockfalls by integrating a background subtraction algorithm based on the Gaussian Mixture Model and captures target dimensions using monocular vision technology, thus broadening the dimensions of detection information. Trials conducted on a railway in Shandong, China, demonstrate that the model accurately identifies moving rockfalls along the railway slopes and acquires the dimensions of moving rockfalls, successfully filtering out low-risk targets in the scene. Visual SLAM algorithms can obtain a large amount of texture information from the environment and usually perform very well in static scenes, but there are a large number of irregular dynamic points when running in dynamic scenes, which can lead to increased error in SLAM feature point matching and loss of tracking localization. To address this challenge this paper proposes a SLAM system (YVG‐SLAM) that adapts to dynamic scenes. YVG‐SLAM is an improvement on the ORB‐SLAM3 algorithm, integrating the view geometry algorithm and the current powerful YOLOv5 algorithm, while proposing a dynamic feature removal strategy without a priori assumptions to reduce the influence of dynamic targets. In this paper, we first lighten the YOLOv5 algorithm, then process the image frame to get the bounding box, then use the view geometry algorithm to determine the dynamic feature points on the image frame, and finally remove the moving objects in the image frame according to the dynamic feature recognition strategy proposed in this paper. The performance of the algorithm is tested on the TUM RGB‐D and BONN RGB‐D datasets. Using a safety belt is crucial for preventing severe injuries and fatalities during vehicle accidents. In this paper, we propose a real-time vehicle occupant safety belt detection system based on the YOLOv7 (You Only Look Once version seven) object detection algorithm. The proposed approach aims to automatically detect whether the occupants of a vehicle have buckled their safety belts or not as soon as they are detected within the vehicle. A dataset for this purpose was collected and annotated for validation and testing. By leveraging the efficiency and accuracy of YOLOv7, we achieve near-instantaneous analysis of video streams, making our system suitable for deployment in various surveillance and automotive safety applications. This paper outlines a comprehensive methodology for training the YOLOv7 model using the labelImg tool to annotate the dataset with images showing vehicle occupants. It also discusses the challenges of detecting seat belts and evaluates the system's performance on a real-world dataset. In the process of inspecting the self-exploding defects of power line insulators, traditional algorithms suffer from various issues such as long detection time, insufficient accuracy, and difficulties in effective detection under complex environments. To address these problems, we introduce an advanced one-stage object detection algorithm called YOLOv5s, which offers fast training and excellent detection performance. In this paper, we applied the YOLOv5s algorithm to improve the detection precision and classification accuracy of insulator self-explosions. To further enhance the YOLOv5s algorithm, we introduced a BiFPN (Bidirectional Feature Pyramid Network) module for feature fusion. This module improved the feature fusion process by learning the importance weights of different input features, considering their contributions. To tackle the challenge of detecting small objects in the self-exploding insulator dataset, we incorporated an SPD (spatial-to-depth convolution) module that focuses on capturing features in small regions and utilizes one-step convolution layers to avoid losing fine-grained information. To address the issue of high similarity between self-exploding insulator regions and intact insulator regions, we introduced an attention mechanism that concentrates attention on the defective insulator regions to gather more information about insulator defects. Experimental results validate that all three improvement methods significantly enhance detection precision. The final model achieves improvements of 2.0% in precision, 0.9% in recall, and 1.5% in average detection accuracy. The images captured using UAVs during inspection often contain a great deal of small targets related to transmission lines. These vulnerable elements are critical for ensuring the safe operation of these lines. However, due to various factors such as the small size of the targets, low resolution, complex background, and potential target aggregation, achieving accurate and real-time detection becomes challenging. To address these issues, this paper proposes a detection algorithm called P2-ECA-EIOU-YOLOv5 (P2E-YOLOv5). Firstly, to tackle the challenges posed by the issues of complex background and environmental interference impacting small targets, an ECA attention module is integrated into the network. The module effectively enhances the network's focus on small targets, while concurrently mitigating the influence of environmental interference. Secondly, considering the characteristics of small target size and low resolution, a new high-resolution detection head is introduced, making the network more sensitive to small targets. Lastly, the network utilizes the EIOU_Loss as the regression loss function to improve the positioning accuracy of small targets, especially when they tend to aggregate. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed P2E-YOLOv5 detection algorithm achieves an accuracy P (precision) of 96.0% and an average accuracy (mAP) of 97.0% for small-target detection in transmission lines. Accurately identifying and locating water-crossing objects is of utmost importance for environmental protection. However, traditional detection algorithms often exhibit poor anti-interference performance and low detection accuracy in complex environments. To address these issues, this paper proposes a YOLOW algorithm based on a one-stage object detection algorithm for the automatic identification of water objects. The proposed algorithm incorporates two new modules, namely the SPDCS module and the SPPAUG module, to improve the model's performance. Specifically, the SPDCS module retains all information in the channel dimension, thereby enhancing the model's detection accuracy and recognition ability for water-crossing objects. The SPPAUG module performs multiscale feature fusion, which further improves the model's detection accuracy and recognition ability. Moreover, the C2f module is introduced from YOLOv8 to increase the detection speed. Due to the challenges of small detection targets, dense target distribution, and complex backgrounds in aerial images, existing object detection algorithms perform poorly in aerial image detection tasks. To address these issues, this paper proposes an improved algorithm called YOLOv5s-DSD based on YOLOv5s. Specifically, the SPDA-C3 structure is proposed and used to reduce information loss while focusing on useful features, effectively tackling the challenges of small detection targets and complex backgrounds. The novel decoupled head structure, Res-DHead, is introduced, along with an additional small object detection head, further improving the network's performance in detecting small objects. The original NMS is replaced by Soft-NMS-CIOU to address the issue of neighboring box suppression caused by dense object distribution. Finally, extensive ablation experiments and comparative tests are conducted on the VisDrone2019 dataset, and the results demonstrate that YOLOv5s-DSD outperforms current state-of-the-art object detection models in aerial image detection tasks. This paper presents a practical contamination detection system for camera lenses using image analysis with deep learning. The proposed system can detect contamination in camera digital images through contamination learning utilizing deep learning, and it aims to prevent performance degradation of intelligent vision systems due to lens contamination in cameras. This system is based on the object detection algorithm YOLO (v5n, v5s, v5m, v5l, and v5x), which is trained with 4000 images captured under different lighting and background conditions. The trained models showed that the average precision improves as the algorithm size increases, especially for YOLOv5x, which showed excellent efficiency in detecting droplet contamination within 23 ms. They also achieved an average precision (mAP@0.5) of 87.46%, recall (mAP@0.5:0.95) of 51.90%, precision of 90.28%, recall of 81.47%, and F1 score of 85.64%. As a proof of concept, we demonstrated the identification and removal of contamination on camera lenses by integrating a contamination detection system and a transparent heater-based cleaning system. The traditional pointer instrument recognition scheme is implemented in three steps, which is cumbersome and inefficient. So it is difficult to apply to the industrial production of real-time monitoring. Based on the improvement of the CSL coding method and the setting of the pre-cache mechanism, an intelligent reading recognition technology of the YOLOv5 pointer instrument is proposed in this paper, which realizes the rapid positioning and reading recognition of the pointer instrument. The problem of angle interaction in rotating target detection is eliminated, the complexity of image preprocessing is avoided, and the problems of poor adaptability of Hough detection are solved in this strategy. The detection of obstacles of intelligent driving vehicles becomes a primary condition to ensure safe driving. LiDAR and camera are the main sensors for intelligent vehicles to obtain information about their surroundings, and they each have their own benefits in terms of object detection. LiDAR can obtain the position and geometric structure of the object, and camera is very suitable for object recognition, but the reliance on environmental perception by a single-type sensor can no longer meet the detection requirements in complex traffic scenes. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved AVOD fusion algorithm for LiDAR and machine vision sensors. The traditional NMS (non-maximum suppression) algorithm is optimized using a Gaussian weighting method, while the 3D-IoU pose estimation loss function is introduced into the target frame screening module to upgrade the 2D loss function to 3D and design the 3D-IoU criterion. By comparing the detection accuracy of the algorithm proposed in this paper with that of the traditional method, it has been found that the improved AVOD fusion algorithm significantly improved the detection efficiency and the detection accuracy reached 96.3%. This paper presents a real-time object-based 3D change detection method that is built around the concept of semantic object maps. The algorithm is able to maintain an object-oriented metric-semantic map of the environment and can detect object-level changes between consecutive patrol routes. The proposed 3D change detection method exploits the capabilities of the novel ZED 2 stereo camera, which integrates stereo vision and artificial intelligence (AI) to enable the development of spatial AI applications. To design the change detection algorithm and set its parameters, an extensive evaluation of the ZED 2 camera was carried out with respect to depth accuracy and consistency, visual tracking and relocalization accuracy and object detection performance. The casting process involves pouring molten metal into a mold cavity. Currently, traditional object detection algorithms exhibit a low accuracy and are rarely used. An object detection model based on deep learning requires a large amount of memory and poses challenges in the deployment and resource allocation for resource limited pouring robots. To address the accurate identification and localization of pouring holes with limited resources, this paper designs a lightweight pouring robot hole detection algorithm named LPO-YOLOv5s, based on YOLOv5s. First, the MobileNetv3 network is introduced as a feature extraction network, to reduce model complexity and the number of parameters. Second, a depthwise separable information fusion module (DSIFM) is designed, and a lightweight operator called CARAFE is employed for feature upsampling, to enhance the feature extraction capability of the network. Finally, a dynamic head (DyHead) is adopted during the network prediction stage, to improve the detection performance. Extensive experiments were conducted on a pouring hole dataset, to evaluate the proposed method. Compared to YOLOv5s, our LPO-YOLOv5s algorithm reduces the parameter size by 45% and decreases computational costs by 55%, while sacrificing only 0.1% of mean average precision (mAP). Smart security based on object detection is one of the important applications of edge computing in IoT. Anchors in object detection refer to points on the feature map, which can be used to generate anchor boxes and serve as training samples. Current object detection models do not consider the aspect ratio of the ground-truth boxes in anchor assignment and are not well-adapted to objects with very different shapes. Therefore, this paper proposes the Lightweight Anchor Dynamic Assignment algorithm (LADA) for object detection. LADA does not change the structure of the original detection model; first, it selects an equal proportional center region based on the aspect ratio of the ground-truth box, then calculates the combined loss of anchors, and finally divides the positive and negative samples more efficiently by dynamic loss threshold without additional models. The algorithm solves the problems of poor adaptability and difficulty in the selection of the best positive samples based on IoU assignment, and the sample assignment for eccentric objects and objects with different aspect ratios was more reasonable. Compared with existing sample assignment algorithms, the LADA algorithm outperforms the MS COCO dataset by 1.66% over the AP of the baseline FCOS, and 0.76% and 0.24% over the AP of the ATSS algorithm and the PAA algorithm, respectively, with the same model structure, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the LADA algorithm. There are a lot of flammable materials in the textile workshop, and once a fire occurs, it will cause property damage and casualties. At present, smoke detection in textile workshops mainly relies on temperature‐sensing smoke sensors with low detection rate and poor real‐time performance, which cannot meet the task of smoke detection in complex environments. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved mixed Gaussian and YOLOv5 smoke detection algorithm for textile workshops. In order to reduce the interference of static background in smoke detection, an improved gaussian mixture algorithm is used to extract suspected smoke areas in video by using the dynamic characteristics of smoke. Then, an adaptive attention module is added to the feature pyramid infrastructure of the YOLOv5 target detection network to improve the multi‐scale target recognition ability. In addition, the focal loss function is used to reduce the impact of background and foreground class imbalances on the detection results. The experimental results show that the detection accuracy of the proposed method is 94.7%, and the average detection speed is 66.7 FPS. By comparing with the existing state‐of‐the‐art algorithms, the detection capability of this method has been significantly improved. Multi-object tracking (MOT) is an important problem in computer vision that has a wide range of applications. Currently, object occlusion detecting is still a serious challenge in multi-object tracking tasks. In this paper, we propose a method to simultaneously improve occluded object detection and occluded object tracking, as well as propose a tracking method for when the object is completely occluded. First, motion track prediction is utilized to improve the upper limit of occluded object detection. Then, the spatio-temporal feature information between the object and the surrounding environment is used for multi-object tracking. Finally, we use the hypothesis frame to continuously track the completely occluded object. Our study shows that we achieve competitive performances compared to the current state-of-the-art methods on popular multi-object tracking benchmarks such as MOT16, MOT17, and MOT20. As deep learning continues to advance, object detection technology holds potential and promising prospects in the recognition of cylindrical objects' quantity, such as in industries like timber processing, construction, and pipeline engineering. The traditional manual counting methods have lower efficiency, a higher error rate, and demand a greater amount of manpower. The introduction of object detection technology can effectively address these issues, enhance work efficiency, and reduce labor costs. Therefore, this research paper introduces a novel variant of the YOLOv5s algorithm, called YOLOv5-COC, specifically designed to tackle the task of counting cylindrical objects. This paper makes the following significant contributions: Firstly, introducing the utilization of data augmentation techniques to augment the dataset, thereby enhancing the generalization ability of the model. Secondly, the K-means + ⁣ + algorithm is employed as an alternative to the conventional K-means algorithm in order to enhance the initialization of anchor boxes. Thirdly, introduce distinct methodologies, including the incorporation of a coordinated attention mechanism, the amalgamation of the Bidirectional Feature Pyramid Network (BiFPN), and the substitution of the loss function, in order to further refine the model and enhance its recognition precision. Finally, employ ablation experiments to assess the optimization outcomes of the aforementioned methodologies. The experimental results reveal that the YOLOv5-COC model proposed in this study attains an mAP of 98.7%, operates at a frame rate of 60 FPS, attains a Precision of 98.3%, and boasts a Recall of 99.1%. The mAP@0.5:0.95 stands at 72.4%. In comparison to the original YOLOv5s model, the mAP value exhibits an improvement of 1.3%, the FPS experiences a remarkable surge of 27.7%, detection accuracy elevates by 1%, the recall rate advances by 1%, and the mAP@0.5:0.95 escalates by 3.5%. In summary, the YOLOv5-COC model demonstrates a sufficiently high level of accuracy in object detection tasks, mitigating instances of both false negatives and false positives. Target detection in optical remote sensing images using deep-learning technologies has a wide range of applications in urban building detection, road extraction, crop monitoring, and forest fire monitoring, which provides strong support for environmental monitoring, urban planning, and agricultural management. This paper reviews the research progress of the YOLO series, SSD series, candidate region series, and Transformer algorithm. It summarizes the object detection algorithms based on standard improvement methods such as supervision, attention mechanism, and multi-scale. The performance of different algorithms is also compared and analyzed with the common remote sensing image data sets. The environmental perception of intelligent vehicles is an important part of achieving autonomous driving, and object detection is one of the crucial functions of the environmental perception systems. Accurate and rapid detection of targets nearby is essentail for the smart vehicles. The faster and more accurately the detection algorithm can detect surrounding targets, the better. However, the detection speed and accuracy of existing perception algorithms still need improving. The distance information between the surrounding objects and the vehicle itself during its operation should also be obtained. The widely used YOLO series of algorithms, as representatives of one-stage object detection methods, have achieved a satisfactory balance between speed and detection accuracy, but there is stiil great potential for further improvement. This paper proposes an end-to-end object detection algorithm based on YOLO algorithm improvement-dual YOLO, which detects and measures the major participants in road traffic ( cars, pedestrians, cyclists) . The attention mechanism acts in the same way as humans observe things, focusing on more important information. The basic idea of combining attention mechanism with convolutional neural networks is to allow the network to concentrate on effective feature information in the image and ignore invalid information, thus improving the overall detection precision. Its mechanism of action is achieved by changing the weights of neurons in the network. This paper is based on the improvement of YOLOV5 algorithm, adding a channel attention mechanism to the backbone network to increase the learning weight of the neural network for effective features, thereby enhancing detection accuracy. In the meantime, a distance measurement module for binocular cameras is introduced to obtain target distance information. The basic principle of binocular camera ranging is triangulation, which employs the visual difference between two cameras to determine the distance of an object. Firstly, the camera is calibrated and distortion is corrected, and then stereo matching using the Semi Global Block Matching (SGBM) algorithm is performed to obtain disparity. Finally, the distance information of the target is calculated. The test results show the dual YOLO object detection algorithm achieves a detection speed of 60 fps and an average accuracy of 85. 99% in identifying the major participants in road traffic, which are far more superior to other algorithms in detecting cyclists and pedestrians. To provide reliable input for obstacle avoidance and decision-making, unmanned surface vehicles (USV) need to have the function of sensing the position of other USV targets in the process of cooperation and confrontation. Due to the small size of the target and the interference of the water and sky background, the current algorithms are prone to missed detection and drift problems when detecting and tracking USV. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a fusion algorithm of detection and tracking for USV targets. To solve the problem of vague features in the single-frame image, high-resolution and deep semantic information are obtained through a cross-stage partial network, and the anchor and convolution structure in the network has been improved given the characteristics of USV; besides, to meet the real-time requirements, the detected target is quickly tracked through correlation filtering, and the correlation characteristics of multi-frame images are obtained; then, the correlation characteristics are used to significantly reduce missed detection, and the tracking drift problems are corrected, combined with high-resolution semantic features of a single frame. Finally, the fusion algorithm is designed. In this paper, we constructed a picture dataset and a video dataset to test the effect of detection, tracking, and fusion algorithm separately, which proves the superiority of the fusion algorithm in this paper. Detecting banana pseudostems is an indispensable part of the intelligent management of banana cultivation, which can be used in settings such as counting banana pseudostems and smart fertilization. In complex environments, dense and occlusion banana pseudostems pose a significant challenge for detection. This paper proposes an improved YOLOV7 deep learning object detection algorithm, YOLOV7-FM, for detecting banana pseudostems with different growth conditions. In the loss optimization part of the YOLOV7 model, Focal loss is introduced, to optimize the problematic training for banana pseudostems that are dense and sheltered, so as to improve the recognition rate of challenging samples. In the data augmentation part of the YOLOV7 model, the Mixup data augmentation is used, to improve the model's generalization ability for banana pseudostems with similar features to complex environments. This paper compares the AP (average precision) and inference speed of the YOLOV7-FM algorithm with YOLOX, YOLOV5, YOLOV3, and Faster R-CNN algorithms. The results show that the AP and inference speed of the YOLOV7-FM algorithm is higher than those models that are compared, with an average inference time of 8.0 ms per image containing banana pseudostems and AP of 81.45%. Deep Learning (DL) has provided a significant breakthrough in many areas of research and industry. The development of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) has enabled the improvement of computer vision-based techniques, making the information gathered from cameras more useful. For this reason, recently, studies have been carried out on the use of image-based DL in some areas of people's daily life. In this paper, an object detection-based algorithm is proposed to modify and improve the user experience in relation to the use of cooking appliances. The algorithm can sense common kitchen objects and identify interesting situations for users. Some of these situations are the detection of utensils on lit hobs, recognition of boiling, smoking and oil in kitchenware, and determination of good cookware size adjustment, among others. In addition, the authors have achieved sensor fusion by using a cooker hob with Bluetooth connectivity, so it is possible to automatically interact with it via an external device such as a computer or a mobile phone. Our main contribution focuses on supporting people when they are cooking, controlling heaters, or alerting them with different types of alarms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time a YOLO algorithm has been used to control the cooktop by means of visual sensorization. Moreover, this research paper provides a comparison of the detection performance among different YOLO networks. Additionally, a dataset of more than 7500 images has been generated and multiple data augmentation techniques have been compared. The results show that YOLOv5s can successfully detect common kitchen objects with high accuracy and fast speed, and it can be employed for realistic cooking environment applications. Object detection in road scenes is a task that has recently become popular and it is also an important part of intelligent transportation systems. Due to the different locations of cameras in the road scenes, the size of the traffic objects captured varies greatly, which imposes a burden on the network optimization. In addition, in some dense traffic scenes, the size of the traffic objects captured is extremely small and it is easy to miss detection and to encounter false detection. In this paper, we propose an improved multi-scale YOLOv5s algorithm based on the YOLOv5s algorithm. In detail, we add a detection head for extremely small objects to the original YOLOv5s model, which significantly improves the accuracy in detecting extremely small traffic objects. A content-aware reassembly of features (CARAFE) module is introduced in the feature fusion part to enhance the feature fusion. A new SPD-Conv CNN Module is introduced instead of the original convolutional structure to enhance the overall computational efficiency of the model. Finally, the normalization-based attention module (NAM) is introduced, allowing the model to focus on more useful information during training and significantly improving detection accuracy. The experimental results demonstrate that compared with the original YOLOv5s algorithm, the detection accuracy of the multi-scale YOLOv5s model proposed in this paper is improved by 7.1% on the constructed diverse traffic scene datasets. Imaging is one of the main tools of modern astronomy—many images are collected each day, and they must be processed. Processing such a large amount of images can be complex, time-consuming, and may require advanced tools. One of the techniques that may be employed is artificial intelligence (AI)-based image detection and classification. In this paper, the research is focused on developing such a system for the problem of the Magellan dataset, which contains 134 satellite images of Venus's surface with individual volcanoes marked with circular labels. Volcanoes are classified into four classes depending on their features. In this paper, the authors apply the You-Only-Look-Once (YOLO) algorithm, which is based on a convolutional neural network (CNN). To apply this technique, the original labels are first converted into a suitable YOLO format. Then, due to the relatively small number of images in the dataset, deterministic augmentation techniques are applied. Hyperparameters of the YOLO network are tuned to achieve the best results, which are evaluated as mean average precision (mAP@0.5) for localization accuracy and F1 score for classification accuracy. The experimental results using cross-vallidation indicate that the proposed method achieved 0.835 mAP@0.5 and 0.826 F1 scores, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To solve the low detection accuracy of SSD for the small size object, this paper proposed an improved algorithm of SSD object detection based on the feature pyramid (FP-SSD). In the deep convolutional neural network, the high-level features contain well semantic information but are not sensitive to the translations. The low-level features have high resolutions but could not represent the features well. The feature pyramid structure contains multi-scale features. To combine the high and low-level features of the pyramid, the algorithm of this paper applied the deconvolution network to the high-level features of the feature pyramid to get the semantic information, dilated convolution network to learn the position information of the low-level features and used convolution for the middle level features to reduce the feature channels, then used convolution to fuse the features. After using the algorithm, a multi-scale detection structure is constructed. FP-SSD achieves a mean accuracy of 79% on PASCAL VOC2007, and 47% on MSCOCO, which has a great improve compared with SSD. We compared the detection accuracy and results with all kinds of scales by experiments, compared with SSD, the accuracy of FP-SSD is higher, which has more accurate location and higher recognition confidence. The road is the most commonly used means of transportation and serves as a country's arteries, so it is extremely important to keep the roads in good condition. Potholes that happen to appear in the road must be repaired to keep the road in good condition. Spotting potholes on the road is difficult, especially in a country like India where roads stretch millions of kilometres across the country. Therefore, there is a need to automate the identification of potholes with high speed and real-time precision. YOLOX is an object detection algorithm and our main goal of this article is to train and analyse the YOLOX model for pothole detection. The YOLOX model is trained with a pothole dataset and the results obtained are analysed by calculating the accuracy, recall and size of the model which is then compared to other YOLO algorithms. The experimental results in this article show that the YOLOX-Nano model predicts potholes with higher accuracy compared to other models while having low computational costs. We were able to achieve an Average Precision (AP) value of 85.6% from training the model and the total size of the model is 7.22 MB. The pothole detection capabilities of the newly developed YOLOX algorithm have never been tested before and this paper is one of the first to detect potholes using the YOLOX object detection algorithm. One of the most critical issues that the marine surveillance system has to address is the accuracy of its ship detection. Since it is responsible for identifying potential pirate threats, it has to be able to perform its duties efficiently. In this paper, we present a novel deep learning approach that combines the capabilities of a Graph Neural Network (GNN) and a You Only Look Once (YOLOv7) deep learning framework. The main idea of this method is to provide a better understanding of the ship's presence in harbor areas. The three hyperparameters that are used in the development of this system are the learning rate, batch sizes, and optimization selection. The results of the experiments show that the Adam optimization achieves a 93.4% success rate when compared to the previous generation of the YOLOv7 algorithm. The High-Resolution Satellite Image Dataset (HRSID), which is a high-resolution image of a synthetic aperture radar, was used for the test.
