The trend of increasing demand creates a gap between generation and load in the field of electrical power systems. This is one of the significant problems for the science, where it require to add new generating units or use of novel automation technology for the better utilization of the existing generating units. The automation technology highly recommends the use of speedy and effective algorithms in optimal parameter adjustment for the system components. So newly developed nature inspired Bat Algorithm (BA) applied to discover the control parameters. In this scenario, this paper considers the minimization of real power generation cost with emission as an objective. Further, to improve the power system performance and reduction in the emission, two of the thermal plants were replaced with wind power plants. In addition, to boost the voltage profile, Static VAR Compensator (SVC) has been integrated. The proposed case study, i.e., considering wind plant and SVC with BA, is applied on the IEEE30 bus system. In this paper a method for the development of a static VAR compensator (SVC) control algorithm is presented. The proposed algorithm has been designed with the objective of eliminating the negative impact of electric arc furnaces on the power system. First, a mathematical model of the proposed SVC controller in the d-q synchronous rotating coordinate system is developed. An analysis under dynamic and steady state conditions is also carried out. The efficiency of the presented controller is demonstrated by means of computer simulations of an actual steel-factory network model. Memory bandwidth and on-chip memory requirements are critical issues in motion estimation (ME) implementations for video compression. The H.264/AVC scalable extension (SVC) provides variable frame rate and resolution video in a compressed digital sequence with interlayer prediction, which complicates the problems of limited memory bandwidth and on-chip memory size. In this paper, an ME algorithm is proposed for the hardware encoder design of SVC that meets memory bandwidth and on-chip memory requirements. Clustered motion estimation and coding sequence reordering at macroblock and frame level processing are proposed. Compared with existing algorithms, the proposed algorithm has a 49.20% lower external memory bandwidth and reduces the on-chip memory requirement by 80.45% with video quality enhancements of up to 0.087, 0.090, 0.078, and 0.070dB for four-layer (FullHD-HD-D1-CIF) spatial scalability, respectively. This paper presents an improved Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO) for optimal tuning of power system stabilizers (PSSs) and static VAR compensator (SVC)-based controllers. The original TLBO is characterized by easy implementation and is mainly free of control parameters. Unfortunately, TLBO may suffer from population diversity losses in some cases, leading to local optimum and premature convergence. In this study, three approaches are considered for improving the original TLBO (i) randomness improvement, (ii) three new mutation strategies (iii) hyperchaotic perturbation strategy. In the first approach, all random numbers in the original TLBO are substituted by the hyperchaotic map sequence to boost exploration capability. In the second approach, three mutations are carried out to explore a new promising search space. The obtained solution is further improved in the third strategy by implementing a new perturbation equation. The proposed HTLBO was evaluated with 26 test functions. The obtained results show that HTLBO outperforms the TBLO algorithm and some state-of-the-art algorithms in robustness and accuracy in almost all experiments. Moreover, the efficacy of the proposed HTLBO is justified by involving it in the power system stability problem. The results consist of the Integral of Absolute Error (ITAE) and eigenvalue analysis of electromechanical modes demonstrate the superiority and the potential of the proposed HTLBO based PSSs and SVC controllers over a wide range of operating conditions. This paper presents a control scheme of a wide-area controlled static VAr compensator (WAC-SVC) and its real-time implementation in a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation scheme with three control objectives: (1) to increase the critical clearing time, (2) to damp the power oscillations, and (3) to minimize the maximum line current. The proposed control scheme considers a correction strategy to compensate the delays up to 200 ms. In addition to this, a generator tripping scheme based on synchrophasor measurements to determine the proximity to the loss of synchronism is proposed. A delay compensation algorithm based on polynomial approximations is also developed. The proposed WAC-SVC is experimentally validated using a Real-Time Digital Simulator platform (RTDS), industrial communication protocols, a commercial device for PMU-based control implementations, and digital relays with PMU capability. The real-time simulation results confirm its effectiveness and feasibility in real industrial applications. Furthermore, practical guidelines to implement this kind of control schemes are provided.
