Wavelength selection is an important preprocessing issue in near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy analysis and modeling. Swarm optimization algorithms (such as genetic algorithm, bat algorithm, etc.) have been successfully applied to select the most effective wavelengths in previous studies. However, these algorithms suffer from the problem of unrobustness, which means that the selected wavelengths of each optimization are different. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a novel wavelength selection method based on the binary dragonfly algorithm (BDA), which includes three typical frameworks: single-BDA, multi-BDA, ensemble learning-based BDA settings. The experimental results for the public gasoline NIR spectroscopy dataset showed that: (1) By using the multi-BDA and ensemble learning-based BDA methods, the stability of wavelength selection can improve, (2) With respect to the generalized performance of the quantitative analysis model, the model established with the wavelengths selected by using the multi-BDA and the ensemble learning-based BDA methods outperformed the single-BDA method. The results also indicated that the proposed method is not limited to the dragonfly algorithm but can also be combined with other swarm optimization algorithms. In addition, the ensemble learning idea can be applied to other feature selection areas to obtain more robust results.

In this paper, a new prediction approach is proposed for ocean vessel heave compensation based on echo state network (ESN). To improve the prediction accuracy and enhance the robustness against noise and outliers, a generalized similarity measure called correntropy is introduced into ESN training, which is referred as corr-ESN. An iterative method based on half-quadratic minimization is derived to train corr-ESN. The proposed corr-ESN is used for the heave motion prediction. The experimental results verify its effectiveness.

In this paper, a new method is proposed for prediction of ship roll motion based on extreme learning machine (ELM). To improve the prediction accuracy and avoid over or under fitting, two techniques are adopted to select the appropriate structure of ELM. First, the inputs of the ELM are selected from the roll motion time series using Lipschitz quotient method. Second, the number of hidden layer nodes is determined via ℓ1 regularized technique. Finally, the ℓ1 regularized ELM is solved by least angle regression (LAR) algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by ship roll motion prediction experiments based on the real measured ship roll motion time series.

We have demonstrated adaptive correction of specimen-induced aberration during in vivo imaging of mouse bone marrow vasculature with confocal fluorescence microscopy. Adaptive optics system was completed with wavefront sensorless correction scheme based on stochastic parallel gradient descent algorithm. Using image sharpness as the optimization metric, aberration correction was performed based upon Zernike polynomial modes. The experimental results revealed the improved signal and resolution leading to a substantially enhanced image contrast with aberration correction. The image quality of vessels at 38- and 75-μm depth increased three times and two times, respectively. The corrections allowed us to detect clearer bone marrow vasculature structures at greater contrast and improve the signal-to-noise ratio.
