Trace elements have a significant effect on biochemical reactions and therefore the presence of optimum levels of trace elements is essential for bioreactor performances. In this study, the effects of five trace elements on biomethane production have been investigated. Experimental studies have been carried out with multiple batch reactors at 15 day HRT and mesophilic temperatures. The optimum concentrations for each of the trace elements Fe, Cu, Ni, Co and Mg were found as 5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5 and 100 mg/L, respectively. Among tested trace elements, Cu was the one which provided the highest biomethane production. Cu addition was resulted in a 46 % increase in biomethane production followed by Co with 24 %. The biomethane production rate for these two trace elements was 191.70 and 110.77 ml CH4/g COD, respectively. Optimum levels for Ni, Fe and Mg increased biomethane production rate by approximately 14.3, 10 and 17 % compared to control groups, respectively. Because the exact amount of trace element requirement for each industry/reactor is different, specific case studies should be performed for each application. Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and Poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) are two of biodegradable plastics with the highest production capacities in 2021. Bioplastic waste management can be easily integrated with organic waste management, especially when bioplastics are used as food packaging material, since they are potentially biodegradable. The aim of this study was to assess the biodegradability of biodegradable polymer-coated paper (BPCP) and bioplastic bags made from PBAT/PLA blend during mesophilic and thermophilic anaerobic digestion (AD) and to reveal the changes in the physicochemical properties of the bioplastics. BPCP obtained 155 NmL-CH 4 /g VS and 307.3 NmL-CH 4 /g VS under mesophilic and thermophilic conditions, respectively, but left bioplastic film residues. The bioplastic bags did not exhibit significant biodegradation during the AD processes. 1H NMR results indicated that the ratio of PLA to PBAT decreased significantly after AD of the BPCP film and that PLA monomers were formed from the bioplastic bags, leading to a decrease in the hydrophobicity on the surfaces of the materials. Methanoculleus was found to be enriched on the bioplastic surface after mesophilic AD. From the perspective of coupling bioplastic waste management with the food waste management, the incorporation of BPCP into the AD reactor not only enhances system stability and methane production to a greater extent than biodegradable plastic bags but also raises concerns regarding the residual biofilm when utilizing the digestate for direct land applications. Paper crumb (PC) is a type of paper sludge residue from the wastepaper recycling industry. It is a by-product from the various fiber purification stages that is particularly composed of short cellulose fibers, lignin, organic compounds and inorganic filler residues. Despite representing a reject material for the paper recycling sector, this feedstock can be turned into a bioresource to enable cross-sector industrial symbiosis in the form of a more sustainable concrete, hence an opportunity for novel Net Zero supply chains. This study sought to valorise the PC by the sequential anaerobic digestion to produce methane (CH 4) from the organic compounds, followed by utilization of the digestate as a water replacement in concrete. The 21-day digestion of PC yielded 163 ml CH 4 per gram volatile solids and the resulting digestate improved concrete compressive strength up to 50% water replacement grade, meeting the requirements for structural grade (C32/40) applications with substitution grades up to 50% and 25%, with and without the addition of plasticiser respectively. In a minor capacity, the digestate reduced workability of the concrete mix, however we demonstrate this issue can be resolved by the addition of plasticiser or increased water to cement ratios. The admixture addition is important to facilitate pumpability on site and ensure satisfactory compaction. This study highlights the potential of anaerobic digestate as a concrete supplement (additive), which would improve the sustainability of both the construction and the paper sector. This paper investigates the influence of thermal pretreatment on kinetic parameters based on four kinetic models: Modified Gompertz, transference and logistic functions and first order equation. The kinetic modeling was applied on experimental results of previous study on producing methane from anaerobic digestion of Recycled Pulp and Paper Sludge (RPPS) under mesophilic conditions. We observed that the thermal pretreatment improve considerably improved the kinetic parameters mainly the methane production rate and the lag phase. Indeed, it can be noted that methane production rate μ increases significantly from a value of 4.72 to 16.27 Nml/h using logistic function for 1 g VS/L added load. Then the lag phase parameter λ has dramatically decreased from 5.46 to 1.04 h using logistic function for 1,5g VS/L added load. This means that the thermal pretreatment of RPPS accelerates the methane production process and saves time.

The present study collected anaerobic sludge from a paper mill operating a UASB reactor on agro-based raw material (wheat straw) washings for biogas production. After determining the sludge profile and methanogenic activity of anaerobic sludge, it was further used to determine the anaerobic biodegradability of RCF-based kraft paper mill effluent. The sludge profile of collected anaerobic sludge was found w.r.t. Suspended Solids (SS) 60 g.L-1, Volatile Suspended Solids (VSS) 23 g.L-1, Inorganic content 62% & Organic content 38%. The presence of effective microbes in anaerobic sludge was confirmed by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). Degradation of organic matter present in effluent by anaerobic digestion leads to the production of biogas (methane & CO2), a renewable energy source. The sludge profile and methanogenic activity findings supported the anaerobic treatment of kraft paper mill effluent and were positive. The methanogenic activity of anaerobic sludge was determined as 0.832 gCOD.gVSS-1xDay, and the average anaerobic biodegradability of RCF-based kraft paper mill effluent was found to be 71.5%. The objective of this study was to characterise the anaerobic degradation of three paper mill waste water treatment residues in the shape of sludges and to correlate this anaerobic digestion to the physico-chemical characteristics of the paper sludges. After a deep characterisation of each paper sludge in their initial stage, several parameters were analysed on each paper sludge in mesophilic conditions for 40–50 days: pH, conductivity, chemical oxygen demand, total organic acids and organic fibres degradation. A special care was taken to identify and quantify the volatile fatty acids (VFAs) produced by the digestion using gas chromatography coupled with a mass spectrometer. The results showed that in paper sludges, cellulose mainly degrades over time while the degradation of the other fibres (hemicellulose and lignin) is limited. Consequently, the greater the cellulose content in a paper sludge, the greater the digestion and formation of VFAs. However, not all the cellulose degrades because of a shielding effect of lignin on cellulose, and a pH buffering effect of the calcium carbonate present in the paper sludges limits the hydrolysis-acidogenesis step of the anaerobic digestion. Finally, the gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) investigations showed that acetic acid is the main VFA produced by the anaerobic digestion of paper sludges. Food waste and waste paper are the two largest components of municipal solid waste, and many previous studies found that their co-digestion improved methane yield. This study investigated the anaerobic co-digestion of 0–100% food waste with paper food packages on lab-scale with feedstock-to-inoculum (F/I) ratios from 0.5 to 6 (based on volatile solids, VS) and total solids contents from 8% to 28%. In addition to methane yield, volumetric productivity and process economics were also used to evaluate the operating parameters. Results showed that the highest cumulative methane yield of around 530 L/kg-VS feed was obtained from 100% food waste at F/I ratios of 0.5, 1, and 2; the highest volumetric methane productivity of 44.2 L/L work was achieved with 25% food waste at an F/I ratio of 6; and the highest annual net profit was obtained from 75% food waste at an F/I ratio of 2, which also achieved the highest internal rate of return (20.7%) and the shortest payback period (5 years). Addition of waste paper packages to food waste could enhance the digester stability, and it is beneficial to allow certain amount of paper packages and tissues to be collected together with food waste during the initial source separation. Pulp and paper (P&P) mills are currently one of the largest industrial water consumers and effluent generators worldwide. As a consequence of the biological effluent treatment processes currently in use, a large volume of sludge is generated, which requires great efforts and high costs to manage. An interesting option for sludge management is anaerobic digestion, a means of reducing sludge volume while generating renewable energy that can be used in the industrial processes. However, anaerobic technology needs to be improved, mainly due to the 30- to 40-d retention time required to digest pulp mill sludge in conventional anaerobic bioreactors. This paper presents a review of the potential of anaerobic digestion for sludge treatment in P&P mills and the application of pretreatment methods to enhance methane production, decrease the retention time and, ultimately, decrease the volume of the digesters. A case study examining the potential of integrating pretreatment and anaerobic sludge digestion in a Brazilian kraft pulp mill is also presented. The literature review resulted in 52 matches in which 16 articles were related to anaerobic digestion or co-digestion of P&P sludge without pretreatment and 20 articles had to do with anaerobic digestion of P&P sludge after pretreatment. A large discrepancy among the results presented made it difficult to assess the suitability of anaerobic digestion and the actual impacts of the sludge pretreatment on the viability of the system. Aspects such as the type of pulping process, sludge moisture and organic (original COD) content, as well as the pretreatment and the anaerobic testing conditions, seem to influence the methane yield. Simulations were carried out using current data from a Brazilian kraft pulp mill and indicated the important role of sludge pretreatment in potential methane production. Pretreated sludge has a theoretical potential to produce 4.7 times more methane than raw sludge, due the increase in the initial BOD as a result of the solubilization provided by the pretreatment. In this study, effect of two chemical compounds (i.e., 1-octanol and hexanal) respectively from the alcohol and aldehyde groups on thermophilic (55±2 °C) anaerobic process digesting the waste produced at a paper industry was investigated. In this scope, possible inhibition was monitored by the cumulative methane (CH4) yields in the batch reactors digesting the paper waste as the feedstock at concentrations of 0.005%, 0.05%, and 0.5% for each compound. Comparing the effects of the two different groups with the control reactor having only the paper waste as the substrate, the results revealed that adding 1-octanol and hexanal up to 0.05% concentrations had some synergistic effect on biogas yield (i.e., from 3% to 12% enhancement). Accordingly, the highest methane yields were 550 and 567 mL/g-VSfed, respectively on average in the presence of 1-octanol and hexanal at a concentration of 0.05% while the cumulative methane yield was observed as 490 mL/g-VSfed for the control reactor. With the exception of 1-octanol at 0.5%, adding both compounds at each investigated concentration was beneficial for the digestion in the batch process. Therefore, the selected alcohol and aldehyde sources did not cause the expected detrimental effect on the methanogens even at the maximum amounts added in this study. Nevertheless, since the effect of the chemical compounds on methane generation has been generally concentration-dependent, the toxic effects of 1-octanol and hexanal would be better observed at higher concentrations (>0.5%), especially when their threshold levels are exceeded in anaerobic reactors digesting paper wastes. Having been generated with a tremendous amount annually, paper waste (PW) represents a large proportion in municipal solid waste (MSW) and also a potential source of renewable energy production through the application of anaerobic digestion (AD). However, the recalcitrant lignocellulosic structure poses obstacles to efficient utilization in this way. Recently, anaerobic and microaerobic pretreatment have attracted attention as approaches to overcome the obstacles of biogas production. This study was set out to present a systematic comparison and assessment of anaerobic and microaerobic pretreatment of PW with different oxygen loadings by five microbial agents: composting inoculum (CI), straw-decomposing inoculum (SI), cow manure (CM), sheep manure (SM), and digestate effluent (DE). The hints of microbial community evolution during the pretreatment and AD were tracked by 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing. The results demonstrated that PW pretreated by DE with an oxygen loading of 15 ml/gVS showed the highest cumulative methane yield (CMY) of 343.2 ml/gVS, with a BD of 79.3%. In addition to DE, SI and SM were also regarded as outstanding microbial agents for pretreatment because of the acceleration of methane production at the early stage of AD. The microbial community analysis showed that Clostridium sensu stricto 1 and Clostridium sensu stricto 10 possessed high relative abundance after anaerobic pretreatment by SI, while Bacteroides and Macellibacteroides were enriched after microaerobic pretreatment by SM, which were all contributable to the cellulose degradation. Besides, aerobic Bacillus in SI and Acinetobacter in SM and DE probably promoted lignin degradation only under microaerobic conditions. During AD, VadinBC27, Ruminococcaceae Incertae Sedis, Clostridium sensu stricto 1, Fastidiosipila, and Caldicoprobacter were the crucial bacteria that facilitated the biodegradation of PW. By comparing the groups with same microbial agent, it could be found that changing the oxygen loading might result in the alternation between hydrogenotrophic and acetoclastic methanogens, which possibly affected the methanogenesis stage. This study not only devised a promising tactic for making full use of PW but also provided a greater understanding of the evolution of microbial community in the pretreatment and AD processes, targeting the efficient utilization of lignocellulosic biomass in full-scale applications.

The process kinetics of an anaerobic digestion process for treating recycled paper mill effluent (RPME) was investigated. A laboratory-scale modified anaerobic hybrid baffled reactor (MAHB) was operated at hydraulic retention times of 1, 3, 5, and 7 days, and the results were analyzed for the kinetic models. A kinetic study was conducted by examining the phase kinetics of the anaerobic digestion process, which were divided into three main stages: hydrolysis kinetics, acetogenesis kinetics, and methane production kinetics. The study demonstrated that hydrolysis was the rate-limiting step. The applied Monod and Contois kinetic models showed satisfactory prediction with μmax values of 1.476 and 0.6796 L day−1, respectively.

The current disposal of biosludge generated in wastewater treatment has high costs and causes environmental problems, anaerobic digestion (AD) of solid waste is a promising alternative. Thermal hydrolysis (TH) is an accepted technology to enhance anaerobic biodegradability of sewage sludge, but this technology has not been developed to be used with biological sludge from industrial wastewater treatment. In this work, the improvements to the AD of biological sludge from cellulose industry when thermal pretreatment is carried out were experimentally determined. The experimental conditions for TH were 140 °C and 165 °C for 45 minutes. Batch tests were carried out to quantify methane production evaluated as biomethane potential (BMP), anaerobic biodegradability according to volatile solids (VS) consumption and kinetic adjustments. An innovative kinetic model based on the serial mechanism of fast and slow biodegradation fractions was tested for untreated waste, and parallel mechanism was also evaluated. Increases in BMP and biodegradability values according to VS consumption were determined with increasing TH temperature. The results of 241 NmL CH4 gVS substrate−1 for BMP and 65% biodegradability are reported for the 165 °C treatment. AD rate increased for the TH waste compared to the untreated biosludge. Improvements of up to 159% for BMP and 260% for biodegradability according to VS consumption were quantified for TH biosludge compared to untreated biosludge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recycled paper mill effluent (RPME) consists of various organic and inorganic compounds. In this study, modified anaerobic hybrid baffled (MAHB) bioreactor has been successfully used to anaerobically digest RPME. The anaerobic digestion was investigated in relation to methane production rate, lignin removal, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal, with respect to organic loading rate (OLR) and hydraulic retention time (HRT). The analysis using kinetic study was carried out under mesophilic conditions (37 ± 2 °C) and influent COD concentrations (1000–4000 mg L−1), to prove its practicability towards RPME treatment. First-order kinetic model was used to clarify the behavior of RPME anaerobic digestion under different OLRs (0.14–4.00 g COD L−1 d−1) and HRT (1–7 d). The result shows that the highest COD removal efficiency and methane production rate were recorded to be 98.07% and 2.2223 L CH4 d−1, respectively. This result was further validated by evaluating the biokinetic coefficients (reaction rate constant (k) and maximum biogas production (ym)), which gave values of k = 0.57 d−1 and ym = 0.331 L d−1. This kinetic data concludes that MAHB presented satisfactory performance towards COD removal with relatively high methane production, which can be further utilized as on-site energy supply. Paper wastes form the major biodegradable fraction of the municipal solid waste. One of the best ways to treat paper wastes is using them as a feedstock for biomethane production through anaerobic digestion (AD). However, the AD characteristics, kinetics, and energy potential of different types of paper wastes are not clear. In this study, four kinds of typical paper wastes including corrugated board (CB), office paper (OP), tissue paper (TP), and magazine paper (MP) were used as feedstocks to produce biomethane at different volatile solids (VS) organic loading (OL). TP had a high cellulose content and showed high biomethane potential, while the lowest was obtained by CB, possibly due to its high lignin content. Kinetic analysis showed that Cone and modified Gompertz model could fit the biomethane production process well. Energy potential analysis revealed that biomethane yield, electric generating efficiency, and electricity price were the principal factors accounting for the profitability of biomethane production project treating paper wastes. Biohydrogen and biomethane production via two stage sequencing system from paper mill effluent (PME) was evaluated to enhance its COD reduction. Heat-shock pretreatment of anaerobic sludge at 90 °C for 15 min was chosen to obtain a mixed microbial inoculum for dark fermentative hydrogen production. The effect of initial pH (5, 6 and 7) on the efficiency of hydrogen fermentation at different concentrations of substrate (3, 5 and 7 g-COD/L) was investigated, which the maximum hydrogen yield was obtained at initial pH 5. After that, the effects of substrate concentration (3, 5, 7, 10 and 15 g-COD/L) and fermentation temperature (37 and 55 °C) were investigated on the hydrogen production yield. The efficiency of dark hydrogen fermentation for all substrate concentrations was higher at 55 °C. The hydrogen production was enhanced as substrate concentration increased up to 5 g-COD/L, but then it was reduced, and the optimum hydrogen yield of 38.8 mL H 2 /g-COD initial was obtained at substrate concentration of 5 g-COD/L at 55 °C. The highest hydrogen (35.1 mL H 2 /g-COD initial) was obtained at 5 g-COD/L and 55 °C and the highest methane (553.8 mL CH 4 /g-COD initial) was obtained at 3 g-COD/L and 37 °C. Recycling helps reduce organic matter and sulfur content in effluents from the paper industry, as well as minimize large volumes usually generated, making the anaerobic process a feasible alternative to treat such waste. The objective of this paper is to evaluate simultaneous sulfate and organic matter removal in a bench-scale horizontal-flow anaerobic immobilized biomass (HAIB) reactor continuously fed with diluted wastewater from a full paper recycling plant. The reactor was filled with wood charcoal matrices containing immobilized anaerobic sludge. The tested wastewater contained Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) of 1745 mg L −1 and concentrations of sulfate ranging from 220 (phase 1) to 585 mg L −1 (phase 2). The anaerobic process from paper recycling effluent was followed by partial oxidation of sulfide to elemental sulfur. Sulfate reduction, methanogenesis and effluent desulfurization occurred in the same reactor and were spatially segregated by the plug-flow regime. The investigated HAIB reactor anaerobically removed organic matter and sulfate at high removal efficiencies (>90%), converting about 30% of the inconvenient dissolved sulfide to elemental sulfur. [Display omitted] • Food delivery boxes are tested for aerobic disintegration and anaerobic degradation. • Boxes made of paper only or with coatings (including polylactic acid) are analysed. • Paper is highly suitable for biological treatments behaving similarly to food waste. • Aerobic disintegration of coated boxes is much slower than that of paper only boxes. • Undigested polylactic acid coating is found in anaerobic semi-continuous tests. This study evaluated the fate of food delivery boxes when subjected to biological treatments, reproducing at the lab-scale the conditions of full-scale plants. Four paper-based boxes were composted: two made of paper only, one coupled with polylactic acid (PLA), and one with a barrier coating. One paper only box and the box with PLA were also investigated for their anaerobic degradability with biochemical methane potential (BMP) and semi-continuous tests. During composting, the boxes were not recognisable inside the compost after four (paper only boxes), eight (box with PLA), and twelve (box with barrier coating) weeks. In BMP tests, the paper only box showed a degradability similar to that of food waste (92 %), while the box with PLA degraded only at 76 %. Furthermore, undigested pieces of PLA were found in semi-continuous tests. Anaerobic treatment of sedimented fibers collected from bottom of a bay that had been receiving pulp and paper mill wastewater for about 70 years were studied for the first time in semi-continuously fed continuously stirred tank reactors (CSTR). Anaerobic treatment of the fiber sediment was shown to be feasible, without dilution and with nitrogen and buffer supplement, at organic loading rates (OLR) up to 2.5 kg VS/m 3 d and hydraulic retention times (HRT) of 60 d resulting in methane yields of 201 ± 18 L CH 4 /kg VS. Co-digestion of sedimented fiber with sewage sludge at an OLR of 1.5 kg VS/m 3 d and HRT of 20 d resulted in a methane production of 246 ± 10 L CH 4 /kg VS. The techno-economic feasibility of mono and co-digestion process together with several case dependent factors such as maximum operable OLR, digestate utilization needs to be evaluated before making further conclusions for larger scale remediation applications. Anaerobic digestion is a well-established biological process for converting biomass in waste streams into a renewable energy source, and it also contributes to the treatment of these waste streams. In this introductory mini-review, some fundamental aspects of anaerobic digestion for use in the pulp and paper industry and other sectors are briefly summarized. The contents include the basics of anaerobic digestion, feedstocks, key process parameters, and typical anaerobic digesters/reactors and their representative manufactures. Fostering the more efficient and widespread commercial use of anaerobic digestion technologies would be a critical strategy to address the issues of energy, the environment, and sustainability.

Thermophilic methane fermentation was a valid approach for handling the stillage eluted from ethanol fermentation of waste paper and kitchen waste. The wide organic loading rate (OLR) range (2–14 g VTS/(L d)) for stable performance and relatively high energy recovery efficiency (79.0%) were achieved, and OLR of 8 g VTS/(L d) was optimum for achievement of highest biogas evolution and VTS removal efficiency. In this work, the feasibility of the anaerobic digestion of paper sludge as a co-substrate in anaerobic digestion mechanical–biological treatment (MBT) plants is investigated. In the first phase, the biochemical properties, biomethane potential (BMP), and pollutant contents of 20 different industrial paper sludges are determined. Following the general evaluation in the BMP tests, the second phase of the project involves the semi-continuous co-digestion of six paper sludges in continuous stirred reactors (CSTR). Paper sludges are categorized according to their origin within the pulp and paper mills: Deinking Sludge (DS), Primary Sludge (PS) and Biological Sludge (BS). The analysis of potentially inhibiting elements shows that the concentrations of chlororganic compounds, mineral oil and some heavy metals are highest in DS, while the mean heavy metal loads in all paper sludges are relatively low compared to other industrial sludges. Large differences in total solids (TS) and volatile solids (VS) contents are observed among the different paper sludges investigated, with DS having the highest TS due to the high inorganic contents. The BMP of the investigated sludges ranges from 90 to 355 NL CH 4 kg−1 VS. In subsequent semi-continuous co-digestion experiments simulating MBT conditions, three DS and two fiber sludges (a mixture of PS and BS) show good methane generation rates, while one fiber sludge causes inhibition and indicates an increase in viscosity. In general, co-digestion of paper sludge in anaerobic digestion MBT plants can be a viable option for energy production and also facilitates a safe disposal of the paper sludge digestates. In the anaerobic digestion of lignocellulosic materials such as waste paper, the accessibility of microorganisms to the fermentable sugars is restricted by their complex structure. A mechanical pretreatment with a Hollander beater was assessed in order to reduce the biomass particle size and to increase the feedstock’ specific surface area available to the microorganisms, and therefore improve the biogas yield. Pretreatment of paper waste for 60 min improves the methane yield by 21%, from a value of 210 ml/gVS corresponding to untreated paper waste to 254 ml/gVS. 30 min pretreatment have no significant effect on the methane yield. A response surface methodology was used to evaluate the effect of the beating time and feedstock/inoculum ratio on the methane yield. An optimum methane yield of 253 ml/gVS was achieved at 55 min of beating pretreatment and a F/I ratio of 0.3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In general, paper mill wastewater contains complex organic substances which could not be treated completely using conventional treatment processes, e.g. aerobic processes. As a result, anaerobic technology is a promising alternative for paper mill wastewater treatment due to its ability to degrade hard organic compounds. In the present study, treatment of paper mill wastewater using a stage anaerobic reactor was investigated. The more specific objectives of this study were to confirm whether paper mill wastewater can be tolerated by methanogenic sludge and to assess the stability of reactor for measured parameters (e.g. COD removal, and methane composition). Results showed up to 98% COD removal efficiency in the anaerobic reactor when the reactor was operated at an OLR of 1.560 kg COD/m3.d. Anaerobic digestion can provide high treatment efficiency for recalcitrant substrates, which generates robust microorganism (acidogenesis and methanogenesis), for the degradation of recalcitrant compounds such as in the paper mill wastewater.

Anaerobic co-digestion of sludge from recycled pulp and paper industry (RPPS) with vinasse effluent from alcohol distilleries (VW) was performed under mesophilic conditions (37 °C) at laboratory scale, using one-liter continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs). The physicochemical parameters were monitored during the process. The average pH and alkalinity were 7.7 and 1000 mg CaCO3 Kg−1, respectively, indicating that the process is working well without the risk of acidification. The methane yield and biodegradability of this mixture were determined. The methane yield was about 112 (NmL CH4 g−1 VS added) and biodegradability reached 73%. Nevertheless, in monodigestion of RPPS, the methane yield was 94 (NmL CH4 g−1 VS added) and biodegradability 65%. The anaerobic co-digestion of (RPPS) with (VW) at a proportion of (70:30) improved methane production by 16% and biodegradability by 11%. Bioenergy recovery from industrial (RPPS) is promoted by co-digestion with (VW), and the removal efficiency of 73% indicates the performance of the process adopted. A kinetic study was performed using five models Richards, modified Gompertz, Logistic, Cone, and first order.
