Graphical abstract 3D porous nano/micro ZnFe 2 O 4 was successfully synthesized from the leach liquor of jarosite residue. Abstract 3D porous nano/micro ZnFe 2 O 4 has been prepared from the leach liquor of jarosite residue via a facile chemical coprecipitation method followed by sintering at 800 °C in air atmosphere. As anode material for lithium ion batteries, the prepared ZnFe 2 O 4 exhibits high specific capacity, excellent rate capability, and good cycling stability, which can be due to the beneficial effects of primary nanocrystals of ZnFe 2 O 4 , the unique 3D porous nano/micro structure, and the associated pseudo-capacitive behavior during discharge/charge processes. [Display omitted] Exploring new electrode materials with high capacity, good cyclability, and low cost is of great importance for the development of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, the lithium storage performance of Fe 2 (SO 4) 3 as an anode material for LIBs is investigated for the first time. The microstructure of the Fe 2 (SO 4) 3 sample is analyzed by XRD, SEM, TEM, and XPS measurements. The lithium storage performance of the Fe 2 (SO 4) 3 sample is characterized by discharge/charge, CV, EIS, and GITT tests. It demonstrates that the Fe 2 (SO 4) 3 has a high lithium storage capacity (delivering a stable reversible capacity of 610 mA h g−1 at 500 mA g−1), outstanding rate capability (maintaining a capacity of 400 mA h g−1 at 7000 mA g−1) and excellent cyclability (with a reversible capacity of ~540 mA h g−1 after 1000 cycles at 1000 mA g−1). The Fe 2 (SO 4) 3 electrode exhibits significant pseudocapacitive behavior during discharge/charge processes, which partially accounts for the superior high rate capability and cyclability. The lithium ions diffusion coefficient evaluated by galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT) ranges from 10−11 to 10−13 cm2 s−1. Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles with a diameter of 60–70 nm are uniformly grown on the surface of N-rGO sheets via a facile hydrothermal method to form two-dimensional hybrid nanostructures. When evaluated as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries, this Fe 2 O 3 /N-rGO composite exhibits outstanding lithium storage performance, with a high reversible capacity of 1398 mAh g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 after 200 cycles and 652 mAh g−1 at 15 A g−1. The excellent performance of the Fe 2 O 3 /N-rGO hybrid can be attributed to the N-rGO sheets that benefit the fast transport of both lithium ions and electrons during electrochemical reactions; besides, the well-dispersed Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles and the flexible N-rGO substrate could effectively release the volume effect of the Fe 2 O 3 during discharge/charge processes. Due to the unique two-dimensional hybrid nanostructure, Fe 2 O 3 /N-rGO composite shows significant pseudocapacitive behavior during discharge/charge processes, which partially accounts for the excellent lithium ion storage performance. A two-dimensional nanostructured Fe 2 O 3 /N-rGO composite has been fabricated by a facile one-step hydrothermal method, in which Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles uniformly anchored on the surface of N-rGO sheets. When evaluated as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries, this Fe 2 O 3 /N-rGO composite exhibits excellent cycling stability and outstanding high-rate capability. Interconnected α -Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles were prepared by a facile chemical precipitation method with the sulfuric acid leaching liquor of tin ore tailings as Fe source. The effect of different precipitants (sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, and ammonia) on the microstructure and lithium storage properties of the as-prepared α -Fe 2 O 3 was studied in detail. All the prepared samples are composed of interconnected α -Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles with particle sizes ranging from 30 to 60 nm. As anode material for lithium-ion batteries, the electrochemical performance of the α -Fe 2 O 3 sample prepared using sodium carbonate as precipitant (FE-1) exhibits the best electrochemical performance, followed by the α -Fe 2 O 3 sample prepared using sodium hydroxide as precipitant (FE-2), and the α -Fe 2 O 3 sample prepared using ammonia as the precipitant (FE-3). For example, the FE-1 electrode exhibits a reversible discharge capacity of 1146 mAh g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 after 300 cycles, higher than the corresponding values of 969 and 834 mAh g−1 for FE-2 and FE-3, respectively. At a high current density of 4 A g−1, the FE-1 electrode can still deliver a reversible discharge capacity of 377 mAh g−1, higher than that of FE-2 (254 mAh g−1) and FE-3 (86 mAh g−1) electrodes. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis reveals that the FE-1 electrode has the smallest electrochemical reaction resistance. Galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT) measurements demonstrate that the Li+ diffusion coefficients of the electrode range from 10−14 to 10−11 cm2 s−1. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) analysis proves that pseudocapacitive behavior significantly contributes to the lithium ion storage in the three α -Fe 2 O 3 sample samples. The results reported in this work provide clues for the high-value use of tin ore tailings, which has good social and economic benefits for the sustainable development of industries.
