A wearable C-shaped antenna based on a fabric material operating at 2.4 GHz frequency is proposed for use in flexible/wearable IoT medical systems. The wearable IoT device plays a key role in medical applications, and the antenna is a key part of it. Loading the presented antenna on the body models showed a frequency detuned with the gain and efficiency reduced from 1. 28 to −9 dB and 90% to 10%. In addition, the SAR did not meet the safety health requirement defined by the FCC or ICNIRP standards. Therefore, an "Artificial Magnetic Conductor" structure (AMC) is added to the C-shaped antenna to overcome these problems. The AMC acts as shielding material between the human skin and the presented antenna because of its 0° reflection phase, which mimics the action of the Perfect Magnetic Conductor (PMC). The overall size of the proposed design was 54 × 54 × 3.9 mm3. Numerical and experimental findings indicated that integrating the AMC structures with a C-shaped antenna was robust for body deformation and load. The C-shaped antenna worked equally well with the AMC, whether positioned in free space or on the chest or the arm of the human body. The integrated antenna with AMC structures has excellent performances. The gain and efficiency without loading on the chest were 6.49 dB and 84%, respectively. While for loaded on the chest were 6.21 dB and 81%, respectively. It also decreased the back radiation and raised the Front to Back Ration (FBR) by 13.8 dB. SAR levels have been reduced by more than 90% between the FCC and ICNIRP standards compared to the C-shaped antenna alone, which does not comply with the standards. A compact fabric antenna structure integrated with electromagnetic bandgap structures (EBGs) covering the desired frequency spectrum between 2.36 GHz and 2.40 GHz for Medical Body-Area Networks (MBANs), is introduced. The needs of flexible system applications, the antenna is preferably low-profile, compact, directive, and robust to the human body's loading effect have to be satisfied. The EBGs are attractive solutions for such requirements and provide efficient performance. In contrast to earlier documented EBG backed antenna designs, the proposed EBG behaved as shielding from the antenna to the human body, reduced the size, and acted as a radiator. The EBGs reduce the frequency detuning due to the human body and decrease the back radiation, improving the antenna efficiency. The proposed antenna system has an overall dimension of 46×46×2.4 mm3. The computed and experimental results achieved a gain of 7.2 dBi, a Front to Back Ratio (FBR) of 12.2 dB, and an efficiency of 74.8%, respectively. The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) demonstrates a reduction of more than 95% compared to the antenna without EBGs. Moreover, the antenna performance robustness to human body loading and bending is also studied experimentally. This paper describes the development of a Fractal printed Yagi-Uda antenna for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications operating at 2.4 GHz frequency. In miniaturizing the dimensions of an antenna, fractal method is applied where the first iteration and second iteration is implemented. The Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software is used as the platform to design and simulate the antenna. The substrate material used is the FR-4 board which has a dielectric constant of 5.4, the thickness of 1.6 mm and tangent loss of 0.019. The antenna performance interm of the reflection coefficient, radiation pattern and gain are compared and analyzed. A dual band to wideband reconfigurable pentagon-shaped antenna with EBG unit cell is proposed. A minimal number of two EBG unit cell is deployed to realize frequency reconfigurable mechanism. By varying the state of the EBG the antenna is capable to change its dual band operation to wideband alternately. There are three cases that have been analysed, first case is the EBG incorporated antenna with ideal and second is with the active EBG. Subsequently, the third cases is the fabricated ideal EBG incorporated antenna. The dual band operation is at 1.8 GHz and 5.2 GHz while the wide band from 1.6 GHz to 2.37 GHz (770 MHz). This paper discusses the development of an indoor monitoring system based on passive radio frequency identification (RFID) system and Raspberry Pi 3. There are two algorithms designed for this project where the first is to link the RFID module to the Raspberry Pi 3, and the other one is to send the data obtained to a database over wireless network via UDOO Quad as a secondary router. The result is then displayed on a localhost generated using XAMPP. The objective of this project is to realize a monitoring system that incorporates different systems such as Raspberry Pi 3, UDOO Quad, and also RFID module by designing algorithms using Python and C programming language. Plus, the performance of the system is also analyzed using different type of antennas such as the Raspberry Pi 3 Antenna, monopole antenna, and a Yagi Uda antenna in terms of power received versus distance in both line of sight position and non-line of sight position. Finally, antenna that produces the best performance for line-of-sight (LOS) propagation is Yagi Uda antenna while monopole antenna is better when it comes to nonline-of-sight (NLOS) propagation. A metamaterial of electromagnetic band gap (EBG) is incorporated to an antenna for frequency reconfigurability is proposed. The EBG consists of two identical unit cells that provide multiple band gaps at 1.88-1.94, 2.25-2.44, 2.67-2.94, 3.52-3.54, and 5.04-5.70 GHz with different EBG configurations. Subsequently, the antenna is incorporated with EBG. The corresponding incorporated structure successfully achieves various reconfigurable frequencies at 1.60, 1.91, 2.41, 3.26, 2.87, 5.21, and 5.54 GHz. In this paper, a single rectangular patch antenna incorporated with an array of electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures is proposed. The proposed antenna features radiation pattern agility by means of connecting the shorting pin vias to the EBG unit cells. The proposed design consists of 32 mm × 35.5 mm rectangular patch antenna and 10.4-mm-square mushroom-like EBG unit cells. The EBGs are placed at both sides of the antenna radiating patch and located on the thicker substrate of thickness, h. The copper tape which represents the PIN diode is used to control the connection between the EBG's via and the ground plane as reconfigurable mechanism of the antenna. The simulated result shows by switching the ON and OFF EBG structures in either sides or both, the directional radiation pattern can be tilted from 0 to +14°. In this paper, frequency reconfigurable electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure that integrates with a wideband antenna is proposed. The EBG structure consists of a circular patch shorted to the ground plane and a secondary circular patch connected to the circular patch. Switches are positioned between the via and the ground plane and by controlling the state of the switch, the band-stop operation of the EBG can be activated or deactivated. In order to control the single and dual band-stop operation, another switch is place between the circular patch and the secondary circular patch. The EBG structure is then placed underneath the feed line of a wideband antenna. The antenna is capable of reconfiguring to three different frequency bands. A novel frequency and pattern reconfigurable Yagi antenna is proposed. The antenna is formed by a driver, a reflector and two directors. The introduction of switches using a PIN diode at the arms of the driver element produces three switchable frequencies at 1.25 GHz, 1.85 GHz and 2.45 GHz. By controlling the switches at the directors and reflector, the radiation pattern can be configured to near omni-directional pattern or directional pattern at those three frequencies. Simulated and measured results are used to demonstrate the performance of the antenna. The simulated and measured return losses and the radiation patterns, are presented and compared. It was found that the gain of the antenna increases from 3.3 dB to 5 dB in a directional pattern, when compared to the near omni-directional pattern. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An innovative technique involving the usage of a mushroom Electromagnetic Band Gap (mEBG) structure with an ultra wideband (UWB) antenna is reported in this work. A single unit of mEBG lattice is incorporated within a novel UWB antenna to perform the band rejection operation. The antenna can be fixed to reject or reduce the transmit power for any band within the UWB spectrums of frequencies through a careful design of this mEBG structure, thus solving the problems concerning interference and reducing the requirements for complex filtering electronics within the UWB devices.
