Abstract

The article discusses the management of left atrium appendage thrombosis in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation(AF) patients. Topics include how AF is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia and is associated with increased risk of systemic thromboembolism; and randomized trials which have demonstrated the efficacy of non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants to reduce rates of stroke and systemic thromboembolism.
