The article discusses the evaluation of the RESIST ACINETO immunochromatographic assay for the rapid detection of carbapenemase-producing organisms (CPOs) in positive blood cultures. CPOs, such as Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii, are challenging resistant pathogens with limited treatment options. The study found that the RESIST ACINETO assay showed positive results for specific carbapenemases in both spiked blood cultures and prospectively collected positive blood cultures. The assay is cost-effective, easy to use, and does not require specialized equipment. However, it is important to note that simultaneous bacterial identification is necessary for accurate results.
