Potentilla species belong the family Rosaceae which have been used in precious medicinal, phytochemical and pharmacological studies. In current study, we aimed to determined antioxidant capacity, total secondary metabolites and phenolic composition of acetone and methanol extracts of Potentilla davisii. To evaluate antioxidant activity of extracts of P. davisii was used different five methods (P-carotene-linoleic acid assay, DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity, Phosphomolybdenum assay, CUPRAC assay). Total phenolic, flavonoid and tannin content were determined using Folin-Ciocalteau colorimetric method, Aliminum chlorid method and Sulphiric acid-vanillin method separately. Characterisation of methanol extract of P. davisii was analysed by HPLC method with 15 standards. The results showed that acetone extracts have highest total antioxidant activity, while methanol extracts have the highest radical scavenging activity and reducing power activity. Also, acetone extracts possess more total flavonoid and tannin amount. HPLC analysis indicated that caffeic acids is found as most common phenolic acid in methanol extract of P. davisii. According to these results, extracts of P. davisii could be natural product for medicinal, biological and industrial studies. © 2021 Parlar Scientific Publications. All rights reserved.

This work was designed to phenolic compound analysis with UPLC-ESI-MS/MS (Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry), antioxidant and larvicidal (against Musca domestica and Culex pipiens) activities of acetone, methanol and water extracts of different parts (fresh and underground) of G. bohémica extract. The antioxidant activities were determined using six complementary methods (DPPH, ABTS, Phosphomolybdenum, FRAP, CUPRAC assays and ß-Carotene-linoleic acid method). Among extracts, the lowest IC50 value in the DPPH test was obtained from the acetone extract of the underground part (0.652 ± 0.023 jj,g/mL, IC5 0).The determination of contents were evaluated using total phenolics, flavonoid and tannin contents and found maximum values in acetone extract of underground part 6.365 ± 0.064 (mgGAE/g extract), 27.634 ± 0.610 (mg CE/g extract), 22.968 ± 0.073 (mg CE/g extract) respectively. Phenolic compounds of water extracts were determined 32 phenolic compounds using UPLC-ESI-MS/MS, and caffeic acid for both parts was found as the major compound with a high amount. The fresh part is more toxic than the underground part with 60.212 ± 2.778 (1 mg/mL dose, %) against M. domestica, and with 0.190 (mg/mL, LC5 0) against Cx. pipiens. These results about G. bohemica was shown as a source of natural potential antioxidant, and have potential use of pharmaceutical, agricultural industry. © by PSP.

Plant derived products are widely used in cancer treatment. Gall species has been preferred for treatment various diseases in folk medicine, but there are few studies on the anticancer effects of gall species. The present study reports the antioxidant activity and total secondary metabolites of extracts ofA. tomentosusgalls. The antioxidant potency of galls was carried out using differentin-vitromodel systems. Their cytotoxic efficacy on Mia-Paca cell line was also explored. Gall extract was found to contain a large amount of phenolic acids. The extract potently scavenged free radicals including DPPH (IC(50)9.56 +/- 1.08 mu g/mL), ABTS (IC(50)18.51 +/- 0.25 mu g/mL). It can be seen as a potential source of antioxidants according to beta-carotene/linoleic acid method (%92.58 +/- 0.92) and Phosphomolybdenum assays (104.36 +/- 4.95 mgAE/g). Gall extract also posses ability of metal chelating (%40.07 +/- 2.30) and Fe3+(184.01 +/- 2.83 mgTE/g) and Cu2+(89.81 +/- 0.96 mgTE/g) reducing activity. According to total secondary metabolites tests, gall extract showed high total phenolic, total flavonoid and total tannin amount. HPLC analysis of the extract suggested it to contain caffeic acid (424.068.479 mu g/g), ellagic acid (187.696.132 mu g/g). XTT assay revealed gall extract to enhance percent survival of Mia-Paca2 cell line exposedA. tomentosusextracts. The best cytotoxic effect was determined in acetone extracts (IC50: 124.7 mu M). Expression of some genes (Bax, Bcl-2, FAS, BID, caspase-3, caspase-8, caspase-9, caspase-10, FADD, TRADD) in the apoptosis pathway was determined to invastigate apoptosis inducing activity. These results indicate thatA. tomentosusgalls possess potent antioxidant activity, when tested both in chemical as well as biological models. Verbascum L. species have been used since ancient times in traditional medicine thanks to their bioactive compounds. In this study, we evaluated the antioxidant activity and phenolic contents of ethanolic and acetonic extract of Verbascum glomeratum that collected from Denizli, Turkey. The antioxidant activity were evaluated by using various methods (beta-carotene/linoleic acid, ferric reducing power assays (FRAP), radical scavenging assays of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2'-azino-bis-3-ethyl benzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS), phoshomolibdenum methods) and total phenolic, flavonoid and tannin contents in the extracts were determined. Antioxidant activity was determined as beta-carotene/linoleic acid (%58.5 +/- 0.021), DPPH (IC50: 1.220 +/- 0.025) and ABTS (IC50:1.552 +/- 0.021), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) (4.151 +/- 0.056 mgTE/g), phoshomolibdenum assay (8.218 +/- 0.015 mgAE/g) total phenolic, total flavonoid and tannin contents was found as (4.41 +/- 0.007 mgGAE/mL), (87.142 +/- 0.009 mu QE/g), and (30.178 +/- 0.008 mgCEs/g) respectively, and then 14 different phenolic compounds in ethanol extracts was carried out by HPLC. Epicatechin (2742.09 mu g/g) and 2,5dihidroksi (2544.96 mu g/g) were the most abundant phenolic constituents in the extracts. According the results, the extract of V. glomeratum may be considered as a potential source of biological agents. This work was designed to evaluate the phenolic, flavonoid content and biological activities (antioxidant and cytotoxic) of E. tournefortii extracts (methanol, acetone and water) as well as to determined proximate parameters (ash, fat, protein and carbohydrate). Among the three different extracts of E. tournefortii evaluated, the methanol extract, showed the highest amount of antioxidant activities (beta-carotene, 88.62%). There were statistical differences among the radical scavenging (DPPH and ABTS) and antioxidant (phosphomolybdenum) activities of the different extracts of E. tournefortii. In the metal chelating and reducing power activities, the water extract exhibited the highest chelating and reducing capacity (29.88% and 0.206mg/mL respectively). All extracts of E. tournefortii exhibited cytotoxic activities and this plant possesses nutrients. These findings will provide addition information for the further investigation of this plant, for understanding the efficacy of E. tournefortii as a food ingredient, as well as for preventing oxidative stress mediated disorders. Lamiaceae plants are widely used in traditional medicine as a cure for various disorders. Nepeta italica L. subsp. cadmea (Boiss.) A.L. Budantsev and Teucrium sandrasicum O. Schwarz are medicinal species belonging to the Lamiaceae family and are endemic to Turkey. The present study was designed to investigate the biological activities (antioxidant and toxicity) and phenolic content of these plants' extracts as well as to determine their mineral elements. The antioxidant properties of these plants were determined using the scavenging methods (DPPH and ABTS), total antioxidant test systems (beta-carotene/linoleic acid and phosphomolybdenum), metal chelating and reducing power assays. The phenolics were identified using HPLC and the brine shrimp lethality test was used to screen for possible toxicity. In addition, an evaluation was made of some mineral elements (P, Mg, K, Fe and Cu). The hydroethanolic extract of N. italica subsp. cadmea, showed the highest amount of antioxidant activity (beta-carotene, similar to 93%) among the extracts that were investigated. All the extracts exhibited chelating and reducing activities. There were statistical differences among the scavenging activities of the N. cadmea and T. sandrasicum extracts. The total antioxidant capacity of the extracts evaluated with the phosphomolybdenum test was in the range of 61.54-143.97 mu g/mg and that these plants possess mineral elements. These types of investigations are important for gainingmore information about the potential natural antioxidants from various Lamiaceae plants. The findings of the present study will provide additional information for understanding the efficacy of these medicinal plants as a food ingredient, as well as for use in medicinal applications. Dried bulbs and leaves of Allium reuterianum were extracted with different solvents and evaluated for antioxidant, antibacterial, insecticidal, in vitro cytotoxic activities. The obtained results indicated that the highest compound 3, 4-dihidroksi benzoic acid with 166.2 mu g/g in extracts. The ethanolic extracts had the highest phenolic content and acetone extracts had the lowest fenolic content. In the beta-carotene-linoleic acid test system, bulb methanol (ABM) and leaf methanol (ALM) extracts showed the highest antioxidant activity. The mean antioxidant activity of ABM and ALM were 75.76 +/- 1.22% and 73.42 +/- 1.03%, respectively. The highest ferric-reducing power of extract (ABM) was determined 12.75 +/- 0.010 trolox equivalent (mg/g). Methanolic extract (ALM) exhibited a dose-dependent scavenging of DPPH and ABTS radicals with IC50 values of 0.512 +/- 0.003 mg/mL and 0.378 +/- 0.002 mg/mL respectively. Very strong reduction of gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus growth were observed during incubation of bacteria in bulb extracts (MIC was 20 +/- 1.01 mu g/mL). The brine shrimp lethality assay of bulb extract has showed good toxic to brine shrimp nauplii, with LC50 of 3.987 mu g/mL. The bulb extract of A. reuterianum showed highest larvicidal activity against Cx. pipiens with value LC50 (6.4129 mu g/mL). The results suggest that these plants could be used as a source of natural antioxidant and antibacterial agents. The brine shrimp lethality test was used to determine the cytotoxic activity of E. kotschyanum extracts and also, antibacterial potential of extracts obtained. Antioxidant activity was determined as 13-carotene/linoleic acid (%80.47 +/- 1.83), DPPH (IC50: 0.29 +/- 0.03) and ABTS (IC50: 47.15 +/- 0.74), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) (IC50: 18.79 +/- 0.15), total phenolic and total flavonoid contents was found as (4.883 +/- 0.47 mgGAE/g) and (93.322 +/- 1.57 mgQE/g), respectively ,and then 9 different phenolic compounds in ethanol extracts was carried out by HPLC. Also, ethanol extract's antimicrobial activity (17 +/- 1 zone diameter) and cytotoxic activity (Brine Shrimp LC50: 315.48) of extracts was calculated. According the results, the extract of E. kotschyanum may be considered as a potential source of biological agents.

In this study, the antioxidant, antimicrobial effects and phenolic content of Sternbergia clusiana were investigated. Antimicrobial activity was determined by agar-well diffusion method. The total phenolic content of extracts was determined using to the Folin-Ciocalteu method. Total antioxidant activity was evaluated by beta-carotene-linoleic acid method. The highest phenolic content was found in bulb-methanol extract. Results showed that the highest antioxidant activity was in the bulb-ethanol solution and the least antioxidant activity was in the bulb-benzene solution. According to free radical scavenging, the values of bulb-methanol, bulb-benzene and leaf-acetone were found to be higher than the values of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). Sternbergia bulb ethanol (SBE), sternbergia bulb acetone (SBA), sternbergia leaf ethanol (SLE) and sternbergia bulb benzene (SBB) extracts have showed mostly effect on G(+) bacteria. Sternbergia bulb ethanol and sternbergia bulb acetone extracts have showed mostly effect on G(-) bacteria. Extracts of S. clusiana are quite effective on Candida albicans ATCC 10239 except for sternbergia leaf methanol (SLM). In this study, extracts of S. clusiana have showed antioxidant and antimicrobial activity.

In this study, we examined the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of Colchicum balansae Planchon (CB). The solvent extracts were prepared from CB tubers and leaves. In addition, free radical scavenging activities were also determined. Result of this study show that leaves extracts of CB exhibited higher antioxidant activity than tuber extracts with all types of solvent. The highest antioxidant activity efficiency was determined in extract leaf-ethanol (64%) and the least efficiency in extract tuber-benzine (14.5%). All extracts of CB tubers and leaves have effective free radical scavenging and reducing power. The highest free radical scavenging activity was determined in extract leaf-benzine (68.35%), this activity was followed by acetone (61.23%), methanol (58.67%) and ethanol extracts (54.74%) respectively. The highest radical scavenging activity was determined in extract tuber-benzine (61.28%), and the least efficiency in extract tuber-ethanol (20.48%). In addition, all extracts of CB tubers and leaves were determined as pyrocatechol equivalents. The results showed that Colchicum ethanol extract had a weak inhibitory effect against tested bacteria. S. aureus ATCC 25923 was more sensitive against ethanol extract (10 mm inhibition zone). When comparing the antimicrobial activity of the control antibiotics, the ethanol extract exhibited lower antimicrobial activity.
