Objective: We aimed to describe jaw function characteristics in patients with anterior disc displacement without reduction (ADDWoR) using the jaw function limitation scale (JFLS), and to investigate the effects of biopsychosocial risk factors on limited jaw function., Design: In this cross-sectional study of 636 patients with ADDWoR (females, 568; males, 68), we used the JFLS to assess jaw function. Behavioral, psychological, sociodemographic, and biomedical data were collected. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine risk factors affecting limited jaw function. A receiver operating characteristic curve was used to evaluate the predictive effect of these risk factors., Results: ADDWoR-associated limitations included restricted jaw mobility and mastication, which exceeded median global functional limitations scale scores, especially mouth opening to bite an apple and chewing tough food. Females had greater limitations in jaw mobility, verbal and emotional communication, and overall. Multivariate logistic regression analysis findings indicated that oral behaviors, anxiety, sex, pain intensity, and maximal mouth opening (MMO) were predictive of limited jaw function (area under the curve, 72 %)., Conclusion: Patients with ADDWoR reported mastication and jaw mobility restrictions, with females having more pronounced limitations, and specific risk factors identified as significant predictors of jaw function limitations. Background: Many healthcare professionals are experiencing psychological distress. Electronic mental health (e-mental health) interventions are convenient and multifunctional. This review aimed to examine the effectiveness of e-mental health interventions in enhancing the well-being of healthcare professionals and to identify moderating factors., Methods: A comprehensive and systematic retrieval of randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies was conducted across eight databases. Population, intervention, comparison, and outcome (PICO) were used to define eligibility criteria. Stress, anxiety, and depression were included as the main outcomes. The overall effect was calculated based on the random effect model, and the effect size was presented using the standardized mean difference. The characteristics of the research design, intervention object, and intervention design were further selected as potential moderating factors for subgroup analysis. Meta-regression analyses were finally performed, incorporating intervention duration and sample size as independent variables., Results: A total of 20 studies were included in the systematic review, and 17 were included in the meta-analysis. A large effect on relieving stress and anxiety and a small-to-medium effect on reducing depression were observed. Subgroup analyses showed that features including mindfulness approaches, online courses, computer use, group interventions, and professional guidance were more favorable in the design of services. Meta-regression revealed that intervention duration only affected anxiety symptoms. Caution should be exercised, as some subgroups had fewer studies and higher heterogeneity. For the secondary outcomes, a large effect on emotional exhaustion and a small-to-medium effect on well-being were observed., Conclusion: In general, e-mental health interventions significantly improve the psychological health of healthcare staff. Glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK3β) may play an important role in the brain of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD); therefore, we investigated whether the GSK3β gene is involved in the etiology of MDD and whether it affects MDD endophenotypes. Three single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs6438552, rs7633279, and rs334558) were genotyped in 559 MDD patients and 486 healthy controls. To explore quantitative traits of MDD, we analyzed the association of these SNPs with the factor scores of the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA). We also determined the effects of these SNPs on the measurement of the P300 wave. Although no significant association between GSK3β SNPs and MDD was found, some genotypes and haplotypes were associated with anxiety symptoms in MDD. The three SNPs were associated with the HAMA total score and with the HAMD anxiety and somatization factor score (p<0.05). Three-locus haplotype analysis showed the C-T-G carriers to have a strong association with the HAMA total score (p=0.032). Moreover, the P300 latency and amplitude were also associated with GSK3β genotypes. The individuals with the T allele genotype, both in rs6438552 and rs7633279, have a longer P300 latency than those carrying the C/C (p=0.04) and A/A genotype (p=0.013). The individuals with the G/G genotype in rs334558 have a lower amplitude than those carrying the A allele genotype (p=0.007). Our findings show, for the first time, that GSK3β polymorphisms may play an important role in MDD endophenotypes, especially in anxiety symptoms.

Background: Risk factors for temporomandibular disorder (TMD) pain remain unclear. Objectives: This study aimed to identify risk factors for TMD pain using a biopsychosocial model and to investigate interactions between potential risk factors—oral behaviours (OBs), psychological factors and sleep quality—and their direct and indirect effects on TMD pain. Methods: This was a cross‐sectional study of 488 patients with TMDs (422 women; 30.8 ± 9.4 years). Pain was assessed using the Numerical Rating Scale. Demographic, behavioural, psychological and biomedical data were collected through clinical examination, face‐to‐face interviews and questionnaires. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with TMD pain. Mediation and moderation analysis were used to evaluate interactions between variables. Significant mediation ('0' not included in the 95% confidence interval (CI)) and moderation (p <.05) effects on TMD pain were identified. Results: Marital status, diagnosis subgroup, previous medication use, depression and sleep quality were significant risk factors for TMD pain (p <.05). Significant mediation effects were observed as follows: depression and sleep quality mediated the association between OBs and pain; sleep quality mediated the association between somatization, depression, anxiety and pain; and depression mediated the association between sleep quality and pain (all 95% CI did not contain '0'). Conclusions: (1) Marital status, diagnosis subgroup, previous medication use, depression and sleep quality were associated with TMD pain. Background: The mental health of patients with temporomandibular disorder or other jaw dysfunction is a primary concern in clinical practice, but the extent of these symptoms in this patient subset is not yet well understood. Objectives: This cross‐sectional study aimed to compare the mental health and jaw function between patients with anterior disc displacement with reduction (ADDWR) and healthy individuals. Methods: In total, 170 patients with ADDWR and 163 healthy participants enrolled in this study from March 2020 to December 2021. All participants completed a single assessment, including a pain rating and several questionnaires to assess jaw dysfunction, depression, and anxiety. All scores and the grade distribution of somatization, depression and anxiety were analysed between groups. Results: Significant differences were found in measures of pain, jaw function and somatization; the ADDWR group had significantly higher pain and functional jaw limitations than the healthy group. The grade distribution of somatic symptoms also differed between groups: the distribution of patients who reported mild and above scores in the ADDWR group was significantly higher than that of the healthy group. Depression and anxiety scores or grade distributions were not significantly different by group. Conclusion: The jaw function of patients seeking treatment for ADDWR was lower than that of non‐TMD individuals. Objective: To investigate mental health status and associated factors among caregivers of older adults during the COVID-19 epidemic in China.Methods: From March 1 to 31, 2020, 916 caregivers of older adults participated in an online cross-sectional survey on the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. The seven-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) was administered to measure anxiety symptoms, the two-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2) was used to assess depressive symptoms, and a self-developed questionnaire was used to assess sleep quality and duration. Six questions about COVID-19-related experiences were used to assess community-level infection contact and the level of exposure to media information. The prevalence rates of anxiety, depression and sleep problems were computed. The Wald χ2 were applied to compare the differences between subgroups. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed to investigate factors associated with anxiety, depression, sleep problems, and multimorbidity.Results: The prevalence rates of anxiety, depression, and sleep problems were 46.8%, 29.8%, and 10.8%, respectively. Approximately 263 participants (28.7%) presented with two or more mental health problems. Being female (OR, 2.254; 95% CI, 1.510-3.363), having community-level COVID-19 contact (OR, 1.856; 95% CI, 1.189-2.898), and having a mental disorder (OR, 3.610; 95% CI, 1.644-7.930) were associated with increased risk of multimorbidity among caregivers. Caregivers who preferred positive information (OR, 0.652; 95% CI, 0.472-0.899) had reduced risk of multimorbidity.Conclusion: Anxiety and depression were common among caregivers of older adults during the COVID-19 epidemic. Being female and having community-level COVID-19 contact were independent risk factors for experiencing multiple mental health problems. Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and sleep problems among caregivers of persons living with neurocognitive disorders (PLWND) during the COVID-19 pandemic in China and investigate whether the COVID-19-related experiences were associated with the presence of anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. Methods: From March 1 to 31, 2020, 160 caregivers of PLWND participated in an online cross-sectional survey on the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. The 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) was administered to measure anxiety symptoms, and the 2-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2) was used to assess depressive symptoms. Questions on sleep duration and sleep quality enquired about sleep problems. Six items were used to explore the COVID-19-related experiences, including community-level infection contact and the level of exposure to media information. We computed the prevalence rate of anxiety, depressive symptoms, and sleep problems. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to investigate factors associated with these mental health problems. Results: The prevalence rate of anxiety, depression, and sleep problems were 46.9%, 36.3%, and 9.4%. Approximately 55 participants (34.4%) presented with two or more mental health problems. Women had a higher risk of developing anxiety symptoms (OR, 5.284; 95% CI, 2.068–13.503; p = 0.001). Having a mental disorder (OR, 5.104; 95% CI, 1.522–17.114; p = 0.008) was associated with an increased risk of depressive symptoms. Caregivers who preferred to access positive information (OR, 0.215; 95% CI, 0.058–0.793; p = 0.021) was associated with decreased risk of sleep problems. Conclusion: Anxiety and depressive symptoms were common among caregivers of older adults with dementia or mild cognitive impairment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Being female was an independent risk factor for experiencing anxiety symptoms. Background: The symptom burden was tremendous and rates of psychological distress were high because of laryngectomy in Laryngeal carcinoma. Anxiety and depression as mainly psychological distress influenced their sleep, pain, and the quality of life (QOL). This study aimed to assess the effiacy of computer-assisted Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (cCBT) for psychological outcomes and QOL in patients with laryngectomy, in addition to overall experience with health care service, during the perioperative period.Methods: A cCBT program was be customized focused on improving anxiety and depressive symptoms among patients with laryngectomy, and then its effectiveness was assessed. Participants were randomly assigned to the TAU (treatment as usual) group (n=40) or CCBT group (cCBT+ TAU, n = 40). The primary outcome measures were the State Anxiety Inventory (SAI), Patients Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). The secondary outcome measures were the Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), Visual Analogue Scale-10 (VAS-10). The outcomes were obtained from patients before intervention (T1), 1 hour before surgery (T2), postoperative 3-day (T3), postoperative 7-day (T4), and postoperative 10-day(T5: after intervention completed). Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Head and Neck (FACT-H&N) and satisfaction for health care service were assessed before discharge.Results: A mixed linear model displayed significant improvement in symptoms of anxiety, depression, insomnia, and pain in the two groups (all p<0.001); and revealed a significant decreasing on the SAI, PHQ-9, AIS, and VAS-10 scores in the CCBT group compared to that of TAU group during the post-intervention periods (all p<0.05). Furthermore, the other QOL of patients were higher except for physical well-being (p=0.176) and the satisfaction scores were higher in the CCBT group than that of TAU group (all p<0.05).Conclusion: The new developed cCBT program has a positive effect on psychosomatic symptoms surgery-related among patients with laryngectomy,. And patients with cCBT program reported high levels of QOL and satisfaction during perioperative period.
