The article examines the process and history of identifying paintings and highlights Leonardo da Vinci scholar Martin Kemp who authenticates works of art. Kemp's discovery of an unknown drawing by da Vinci later titled "La Bella Principessa" or "The Beautiful Princess," forgeries, and deciphering the fingerprints of artists are explored. Forensic art expert Peter Paul Biro is discussed as are artist J.M.W. Turner and public perception of art.
