Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) has a global prevalence of around 4.1% and is associated with a low quality of life and increased healthcare costs. Current guidelines recommend that IBS is diagnosed using the symptom-based Rome IV criteria. Despite this, when patients seek medical attention, they are usually over-investigated. This issue might be resolved by novel technologies in medicine, such as the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this context, this paper aims to review AI applications in IBS. AI in colonoscopy proved to be useful in organic lesion detection and diagnosis and in objectively assessing the quality of the procedure. Only a recently published study talked about the potential of AI-colonoscopy in IBS. AI was also used to study biofilm characteristics in the large bowel and establish a potential relationship with IBS. Moreover, an AI algorithm was developed in order to correlate specific bowel sounds with IBS. In addition to that, AI-based smartphone applications have been developed to facilitate the monitoring of IBS symptoms. From a therapeutic standpoint, an AI system was created to recommend specific diets based on an individual's microbiota. In conclusion, future IBS diagnosis and treatment may benefit from AI. Simple Summary: Colorectal cancer is one of the most frequent cancers worldwide, with a high incidence and mortality. Although many treatment options are available for metastatic disease, patient survival is still limited. The molecular classification of colorectal cancer proposed in 2015 has helped us to better understand colorectal cancer and realize a more effective implementation of therapeutic sequences. It has also been observed that the existing mutational landscape is closely correlated with the epigenetics of colorectal cancer. The identification of prognostic and predictive biomarkers in this context becomes a necessity closely related to therapeutics, and artificial intelligence can be used to discover new biomarkers. Colorectal cancer is a major cause of cancer-related death worldwide and is correlated with genetic and epigenetic alterations in the colonic epithelium. Genetic changes play a major role in the pathophysiology of colorectal cancer through the development of gene mutations, but recent research has shown an important role for epigenetic alterations. In this review, we try to describe the current knowledge about epigenetic alterations, including DNA methylation and histone modifications, as well as the role of non-coding RNAs as epigenetic regulators and the prognostic and predictive biomarkers in metastatic colorectal disease that can allow increases in the effectiveness of treatments. Additionally, the intestinal microbiota's composition can be an important biomarker for the response to strategies based on the immunotherapy of CRC. The identification of biomarkers in mCRC can be enhanced by developing artificial intelligence programs. We present the actual models that implement AI technology as a bridge connecting ncRNAs with tumors and conducted some experiments to improve the quality of the model used as well as the speed of the model that provides answers to users. In order to carry out this task, we implemented six algorithms: the naive Bayes classifier, the random forest classifier, the decision tree classifier, gradient boosted trees, logistic regression and SVM. Simple Summary: The need for predictive and prognostic biomarkers in colorectal carcinoma (CRC) brought us to an era where the use of artificial intelligence (AI) models is increasing. We investigated the expression of Claudin-7, a tight junction component, which plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of normal epithelial mucosa, and its potential prognostic role in advanced CRCs by drawing a parallel between statistical and AI algorithms. Claudin-7 immunohistochemical expression was evaluated in the tumor core and invasion front of CRCs and correlated with clinicopathological parameters and survival using statistical and AI algorithms. The Kaplan–Meier univariate survival analysis showed that the immunohistochemical overexpression of Claudin-7 in the tumor invasive front may represent a poor prognostic factor in advanced stages of CRCs. On the contrary, AI models could not predict the same outcome, probably because of the small number of patients included in our cohort. Conclusion: The study showed through statistical means that the immunohistochemical overexpression of Claudin-7 in the tumor invasive front may represent a poor prognostic factor in advanced stages of CRCs, contrary to AI models which could not predict the same outcome, probably because of the small number of patients included in our cohort. Artificial intelligence, a computer-based concept that tries to mimic human thinking, is slowly becoming part of the endoscopy lab. It has developed considerably since the first attempt at developing an automated medical diagnostic tool, today being adopted in almost all medical fields, digestive endoscopy included. The detection rate of preneoplastic lesions (i.e., polyps) during colonoscopy may be increased with artificial intelligence assistance. It has also proven useful in detecting signs of ulcerative colitis activity. In upper digestive endoscopy, deep learning models may prove to be useful in the diagnosis and management of upper digestive tract diseases, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett's esophagus, and gastric cancer. As is the case with all new medical devices, there are challenges in the implementation in daily medical practice. The regulatory, economic, organizational culture, and language barriers between humans and machines are a few of them. Even so, many devices have been approved for use by their respective regulators. Future studies are currently striving to develop deep learning models that can replicate a growing amount of human brain activity.
