Cancer therapeutics cause various treatment-related changes that may impact patient follow-up and disease monitoring. Although atypical responses such as pseudoprogression may be misinterpreted as treatment nonresponse, other changes, such as hyperprogressive disease seen with immunotherapy, must be recognized early for timely management. Radiation necrosis in the brain is a known response to radiotherapy and must be distinguished from local tumor recurrence. Radiotherapy can also cause adverse effects such as pneumonitis and local tissue toxicity. Systemic therapies, like chemotherapy and targeted therapies, are known to cause long-term cardiovascular effects. Thus, there is a need for robust biomarkers to identify, distinguish, and predict cancer treatment-related changes. Radiomics, which refers to the high-throughput extraction of subvisual features from radiologic images, has been widely explored for disease classification, risk stratification, and treatment-response prediction. Lately, there has been much interest in investigating the role of radiomics to assess oncologic treatment-related changes. We review the utility and various applications of radiomics in identifying and distinguishing atypical responses to treatments, as well as in predicting adverse effects. Although artificial intelligence tools show promise, several challenges-including multi-institutional clinical validation, deployment in health care settings, and artificial-intelligence bias-must be addressed for seamless clinical translation of these tools.

The successful use of artificial intelligence (AI) for diagnostic purposes has prompted the application of AI-based cancer imaging analysis to address other, more complex, clinical needs. In this Perspective, we discuss the next generation of challenges in clinical decision-making that AI tools can solve using radiology images, such as prognostication of outcome across multiple cancers, prediction of response to various treatment modalities, discrimination of benign treatment confounders from true progression, identification of unusual response patterns and prediction of the mutational and molecular profile of tumours. We describe the evolution of and opportunities for AI in oncology imaging, focusing on hand-crafted radiomic approaches and deep learning-derived representations, with examples of their application for decision support. We also address the challenges faced on the path to clinical adoption, including data curation and annotation, interpretability, and regulatory and reimbursement issues. We hope to demystify AI in radiology for clinicians by helping them to understand its limitations and challenges, as well as the opportunities it provides as a decision-support tool in cancer management., (© 2021. Nanofluids are thermoelectric substance with a greater thermal transmission effectiveness than traditional thermal fluids. Nanofluid's specific heat capacity (SHC) is a crucial thermophysical parameter since it controls the fluid's heat transfer coefficient. Surprisingly few research investigations have been done on the prognostic modelling of the specific heat capacity of fusion nanofluids, despite the fact that numerous experiments have been conducted on the heat transfer capacitance of blended nanofluids. This study focuses on the use of algorithms based on machine learning procedures (MLP) to estimate the SHC of blended nanofluids. Numerous numbers of hybrid nanofluids are investigated in this investigation. Total of 984 samples of hybrid nanofluids for specific heat capacity has been collected from nine experimental research papers. Various MLP techniques were utilized in this analysis, including extreme boost gradient boost regression (XGB), support vector regression augmented with a genetic algorithm (support vector regression [SVR]‐genetic algorithm [GA]), grid search optimized based gradient boost regression algorithm (GBR) (GBR‐GSO), and voting ensemble procedure (VE). The obtained correlation coefficients of the SVR‐GA, XGB, VE and GBR‐GSO models for the testing dataset are 98.43%, 96.29%, 94.4% and 96.55% respectively. The SVR‐GA model showed a better predictive accuracy relative to other ML models. This SVR‐GA anticipated model could be used for quick and reliable prediction of the SHC of blended nanofluids which reduces the burden associated with experimental measurement possible future work includes applying a machine‐learning strategy to the problem of determining the diffusivity of hybrid nanofluids. Data Privacy has increasingly become a matter of concern in the era of large public digital respositories of data. This is particularly true in healthcare where data can be misused if traced back to patients, and brings with itself a myriad of possibilities. Bring custodians of data, as well as being at the helm of disigning studies and products that can potentially benefit products, healthcare professionals often find themselves unsure about ethical and legal constraints that undelie data sharing. Robotic surgery has changed the landscape of surgery and ushered in a new era of technology-assisted minimally invasive surgery. There is a paradigm shift from traditional open surgeries to minimal access surgery, with robotic surgery being the new standard of care in some surgical fields. This change comes with an unprecedented influx of innovations in technology related to minimal access surgery, robotics and artificial intelligence. Despite the exponential advances in technology, there is a lacuna in the training and credentialling of robotic surgeons. In India, no dedicated training curriculum exists for trainees in robotic surgery. Thus, as robotic surgery continues to develop in India, it is imperative that robust training and credentialing systems are in place to ensure that patient safety and surgical outcomes are not compromised. Although interest in artificial intelligence (AI) has exploded in recent years and led to the development of numerous commercial and noncommercial algorithms, the process of implementing such tools into day-to-day clinical practice is rarely described in the burgeoning AI literature. In this report, we describe our experience with the successful integration of an AI-enabled mobile x-ray scanner with an FDA-approved algorithm for detecting pneumothoraces into an end-to-end solution capable of extracting, delivering, and prioritizing positive studies within our thoracic radiology clinical workflow. We also detail several sample cases from our AI algorithm and associated PACS workflow in action to highlight key insights from our experience. Almost 25% of COVID-19 patients end up in ICU needing critical mechanical ventilation support. There is currently no validated objective way to predict which patients will end up needing ventilator support, when the disease is mild and not progressed. N = 869 patients from two sites (D1: N = 822, D2: N = 47) with baseline clinical characteristics and chest CT scans were considered for this study. The entire dataset was randomly divided into 70% training, D1train (N = 606) and 30% test-set (Dtest: D1test (N = 216) + D2 (N = 47)). An expert radiologist delineated ground-glass-opacities (GGOs) and consolidation regions on a subset of D1train, (D1train_sub, N = 88). These regions were automatically segmented and used along with their corresponding CT volumes to train an imaging AI predictor (AIP) on D1train to predict the need of mechanical ventilators for COVID-19 patients. Finally, top five prognostic clinical factors selected using univariate analysis were integrated with AIP to construct an integrated clinical and AI imaging nomogram (ClAIN). Univariate analysis identified lactate dehydrogenase, prothrombin time, aspartate aminotransferase, %lymphocytes, albumin as top five prognostic clinical features. AIP yielded an AUC of 0.81 on Dtest and was independently prognostic irrespective of other clinical parameters on multivariable analysis (p<0.001). ClAIN improved the performance over AIP yielding an AUC of 0.84 (p = 0.04) on Dtest. ClAIN outperformed AIP in predicting which COVID-19 patients ended up needing a ventilator. Our results across multiple sites suggest that ClAIN could help identify COVID-19 with severe disease more precisely and likely to end up on a life-saving mechanical ventilation. This paper focuses on developing empirical models for predicting surface roughness, tool wear and power required in turning operations. These response parameters are mainly dependent upon cutting velocity, feed and cutting time. Three competing data mining techniques, response surface methodology (RSM), artificial neural networks (ANN) and support vector regression (SVR), are applied in developing the empirical models. The data of 27 experiments have been used to generate, compare and evaluate the proposed models of tool wear, power required and surface roughness for the selected tool/material combination. Testing results demonstrate that the models developed in this research are suitable for predicting the response parameters with a satisfactory goodness of fit. It has been found that ANN and SVR models are much better than regression and RSM models for predicting the three response parameters. Finally, some future research directions are outlined. In this study, we aimed to predict mechanical ventilation requirement and mortality using computational modeling of chest radiographs (CXRs) for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. This two-center, retrospective study analyzed 530 deidentified CXRs from 515 COVID-19 patients treated at Stony Brook University Hospital and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center between March and August 2020. Linear discriminant analysis (LDA), quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA), and random forest (RF) machine learning classifiers to predict mechanical ventilation requirement and mortality were trained and evaluated using radiomic features extracted from patients' CXRs. Deep learning (DL) approaches were also explored for the clinical outcome prediction task and a novel radiomic embedding framework was introduced. All results are compared against radiologist grading of CXRs (zone-wise expert severity scores). Radiomic classification models had mean area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (mAUCs) of 0.78 ± 0.05 (sensitivity = 0.72 ± 0.07, specificity = 0.72 ± 0.06) and 0.78 ± 0.06 (sensitivity = 0.70 ± 0.09, specificity = 0.73 ± 0.09), compared with expert scores mAUCs of 0.75 ± 0.02 (sensitivity = 0.67 ± 0.08, specificity = 0.69 ± 0.07) and 0.79 ± 0.05 (sensitivity = 0.69 ± 0.08, specificity = 0.76 ± 0.08) for mechanical ventilation requirement and mortality prediction, respectively. Classifiers using both expert severity scores and radiomic features for mechanical ventilation (mAUC = 0.79 ± 0.04, sensitivity = 0.71 ± 0.06, specificity = 0.71 ± 0.08) and mortality (mAUC = 0.83 ± 0.04, sensitivity = 0.79 ± 0.07, specificity = 0.74 ± 0.09) demonstrated improvement over either artificial intelligence or radiologist interpretation alone. Our results also suggest instances in which the inclusion of radiomic features in DL improves model predictions over DL alone. The purpose of this study is to investigate the generalization power of a modified backpropagation training algorithm referred to as ‘weight decay’. In particular, we focus on the effect of the weight decay method on data sets with missing values. Three data sets with real missing values and three data sets with missing values created by randomly deleting attribute values are adopted as the test bank in this study. We first reconstruct missing values using four different methods, viz., standard backpropagation, iterative multiple regression, replacing by average, and replacing by zero. Then the standard backpropagation and the weight decay backpropagation are used to train networks for classification predictions. Experimental results show that the weight decay backpropagation can at least achieve a performance equivalent to the standard backpropagation. In addition, there is evidence that the standard backpropagation is a viable tool to reconstruct missing values. Experimental results also show that in the same data set, the higher the percentage of missing values, the higher the differential effects from reconstruction methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
