The article describes the sensô kirokuga, or war record paintings, works produced by Japan's best artists to commemorate Japanese victories. Two volumes of the "Reports of General MacArthur" displayed the war record paintings to tell the Japanese side of the story. According to historian Edward Drea, the wartime works glorify combat or have a romantic hue of noble self-sacrifice.
