A new oxygen bridged [Cu‐O‐Ba] bimetallic catalyst is synthesized. The novel catalyst is used for Csp2‐O cross‐coupling reactions of phenols with haloarenes. Iodo‐, bromo‐, and unactivated chloro‐arenes could be coupled with aryl phenols efficiently in high yield. Moreover, functional groups were well tolerated using this protocol. Transition metal catalysed formation of Csp2‐S bond through cross‐coupling reaction stands important and powerful tools in synthetic organic chemistry. The reaction constitutes an important strategy for the synthesis of thioethers that possess diverse biological activities in medicine and agriculture. Nonetheless, maintaining reaction temperature during Csp2‐S cross‐coupling reaction decides fate of desired product along with possibility of by‐product and disulfides. The economy of process, safety and environmental issue demands thioether synthesis at mild condition and room temperature. Only very few reactions were successful under mild condition using Pd, Cu, Ni, Ni−Ir and Ir catalyst. Most non-palladium catalysts employed in Sonogashira cross-coupling work at high temperatures of 120–140 °C and with well-defined ligands. Palladium-based catalysts with bulky and electron-rich phosphine ligands generally show the best performance for the above-mentioned cross-coupling procedure. Herein, we report a new protocol for Csp–Csp2 Sonogashira cross-coupling between a terminal alkyne and aryl halide using the cheap and commercially available catalyst CuSeO3·2H2O. The title reaction proceeds using a variety of terminal alkynes, affording diaryl or aryl–alkyl acetylenes in high yields under mild conditions in the absence of ligands. Alkyl acetylenes, ethynylsilanes, and alkynols are efficiently coupled with aryl iodides and aryl bromides. The mechanism of the reaction was evaluated using computational DFT studies. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of the use of an oxygen-bridged copper-based bimetallic catalyst for Csp–Csp2 Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions under mild conditions. Aryl selenium, tellurium, arsenic and antimony compounds represent the privileged structural scaffolds in synthetic chemistry for the construction of complex molecules from simple substrates. Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions provide a powerful synthetic tool for the construction of C-Se, C-Te, C-As and C-Sb bonds with functional group diversities. These reactions generally utilize aryl/vinyl halides and arylboronic acids as the aryl/vinyl coupling partner. Recently, considerable efforts have been made on the use of (hetero)arenes as the aryl source in place of the aryl halides (boronic acids) via the C H functionalization for the regioselective C-Se and C-Te bond formations using directing group in the presence of Pd, Cu, Rh and Ru-based catalysis. Few studies are focused on the use of recyclable catalysts and alcohol/ water/ ionic liquid as the reaction medium for the C-Se and C-Te cross-couplings, which are important developments in view of the demand for the sustainable organic synthesis. We disclosed new bimetallic BaMoO4 nanoparticles for the C–S cross-coupling reaction. The C–S cross-coupling reaction of alkyl/aryl thiols with haloarenes was accomplished with high yields. The reaction has good functional group tolerance and selectivity. This is an efficient protocol for synthesizing the building blocks of pharmaceuticals containing C–S bonds. The catalyst is recyclable. The unactivated bromo- and 4-acetyl fluoro-arenes can well couple to afford thioethers in high yields. CuII catalyst is less efficient at room temperature for C−S cross‐coupling. C−S cross‐coupling by CuII catalyst at room temperature is not reported; however, doping of copper with molybdenum metal has been realized here to be more efficient for C−S cross‐coupling in comparison to general CuII catalyst. The doped catalyst CuMoO4 nanoparticle is found to be more efficient than copper. The catalyst works under mild conditions without any ligand at room temperature and is recyclable and effective for a wide range of thiols and haloarenes (ArI, ArBr, ArF) from milligram to gram scale. These reactions are considerably explored for the borylation and phosphorylation of reactive aryl halides using Pd, Ni and Cu-based catalysis. Efforts are made on the utilization of Ru, Rh, Ir, Mn, Co, Fe and Ag based systems to expand the substrate scope to carboxylic acid derivatives and functionalization of C-F and C–H bonds. This comprehensive review covers the developments of the transition-metal-mediated C sp2 -B and C sp2 -P cross-couplings for the period of 2011 to 2020.
