En este estudio se proponen una serie de indicadores para la evaluación de la contaminación lumínica de ámbito estatal. Esta conclusión resulta del análisis de la emisión luminosa al espacio procedente de Europa occidental. Para ello se han analizado con técnicas astronómicas las imágenes del NOAA (Satélites DMSP, banda OLS "VIS" band 0.40 - 1.10 um). Dicha propuesta incluye aspectos demográficos no tratados en otros estudios de la misma temática. Como contraste, se incluye una compilación de diversos indicadores de contaminación lumínica elaborados con información oficial de medios estatales y de la EU. También se trata la evolución del gasto en alumbrado público de España y su relación con las imágenes de satélite. Caso peculiar dentro de la muestra de países.

The 2014 LoNNe (Loss of the Night Network) intercomparison campaign is the second of four campaigns planned during EU COST Action ES1204. The goal of these campaigns is to understand systematic uncertainty inherent in observations of skyglow (light pollution). An innovation of this year’s campaign was to take measurements with many of the nstruments at two sites: an urban location and a location far from artificial lights. This report summarizes the eeting, and also provides three recommendations for obtaining and analyzing handheld SQM observations. The UCM group of Astronomical Instrumentation and Extragalactic Astronomy (GUAIX) hosted the meeting at the Physics building of Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). A meeting room at Departamento de Astrofísica y CC. de la Atmósfera and the astronomical observatory (Observatorio UCM) were prepared in advance. In particular, a tailor made station to set the SQM and other photometer devices was installed on the roof of the Physics building. The Laboratorio de Investigación Científica Avanzada (LICA) was used to test and characterize a number of devices and filters.

Spectra of the lamps that are used for public lighting and ornamental purposes have been obtained with a portable spectrograph around Madrid city. The database is presented in this report along with a description of the procedures. The database has interest for Light Pollution research.

The NixNox procedure to build all-sky maps of the nocturnal night sky brightness using SQM photometers is described. Astronomers belonging to amateur associations in Spain are using this observational method to obtain data of their preferred sites of observation to characterize the astronomical quality of the sky and the sources of light pollution.

La ciencia ciudadana es algo novedoso en otras ciencias, no en astronomía. Sin embargo, la generalización de esta práctica, ha hecho que se potencien las iniciativas de astronomía amateur. Ahora para hacer astronomía amateur no es necesario disponer de un costoso equipamiento. Solo los ojos del voluntario e internet.

Right now there are around 1.800.000 images at the Johnson Space Center database (TheGateway of the Astronauts) and around of 1.200.000 images came from the ISS (date20/02/2014). Although, the classified images are a number much smaller and there no archiveof georeferenced images. There is a project to classify the day time images (Image detective). But, the techniques that are used in this project are not use full for the classification of nighttime images. The reason is that the patterns on earth are not the same during the day andnight. That’s why it’s need it other technique to classify night time images.

Our main objective is to determine what kind of galaxies dominate the cosmic SFR density at z~2. Our sample consists of 24 galaxies in Chandra Deep Field South, a unique field for the study of galaxy evolution (12 observed with GNIRS/GEMINI and 12 with ISAAC/VLT). We use H alpha together with the already merged X-ray, ultraviolet, optical, near and mid-infrared imaging data to obtain estimations of SFRs, metallicities, stellar and dynamical masses, AGN activity, and extinction properties. We have obtained 15 Hα detections, 4 rotation curves, and SFR relationship for 7 galaxies. The metallicities obtained for 8 galaxies of the sample are compatible with the metallicities of local galaxies.

Preliminary results of a study of the night sky background brightness around the city of Madrid using Sky Quality Meter (SQM) photometers are presented. Data-retrieval methodology includes an automatic procedure to measure from a moving vehicle which allows to speed up the data gathering. The night sky brightness, an astronomical quality parameter that accounts for luminous flux from the sky, is closely related with the light pollution. The map with the spatial distribution of the night sky brightness around Madrid has been compared to the light pollution as measured with calibrated satellite imagery and nocturnal images taken by astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

The evolution of electric power consumption on public lighting in Spain is obtained from DMSP-OLS satellite data and compared with official data. We provide trends for each Spanish province. Radiance calibrated images for the Iberian peninsula for 1996 and 2006 are shown. We are using pictures taken from the International Space Station (ISS) for Light Pollution studies.

The potential of the pictures of the Earth taken at night from the International Space Station (ISS) with a Nikon D3s digital camera to fight against light pollution is shown. We show that RAW pictures should be used to obtain fluxes. We have developed a method to perform absolute photometric calibration measuring fluxes of the stars recorded in the pictures and also calibrated sources at earth.

NIXNOX es un proyecto propuesto y apoyado por la Sociedad Española de Astronomía (SEA) con el fin de localizar lugares en España donde se pueda disfrutar del cielo nocturno oscuro y estrellado. Se pretende crear una plataforma que anime a la sociedad a contemplar el cielo nocturno y a las administraciones locales a cuidarlo. La recopilación de los datos de brillo de fondo de cielo y otra información relevante se está realizando con la colaboración de las asociaciones de astrónomos aficionados.

The potential of the night pictures taken from the International Space Station (ISS) with a Nikon D3s digital camera to fight against light pollution is shown. A scientific analysis of ISS026-E-26493 RAW image of Madrid at night with techniques used by astronomers and cartographers is performed. We suggest an observational setup to obtain useful scientific information from the pictures including series of exposures and calibration frames.

A partir de imágenes nocturnas entre 1992 y 2007 de los satélites DMPS se ha obtenido una evolución por provincia del aumento de la emisión al luz espacio causante de la contaminación lumínica en España. El crecimiento medio nacional es del 54% en el periodo de estudio. Con los datos de INE y MITyC estimamos que el consumo nacional en alumbrado público es de 5.4 ±0.1 Twh/año a fecha de 2007. El objetivo nacional de consumo en alumbrado público anual es de 75 kwh por habitante. Sin embargo a partir de los datos oficiales calculamos que la media nacional está en 118 kwh por habitante en el año 2007 y crece.

We present spectroscopy of 48 galaxies selected using narrow-band filter centred at Hα restframe z=0.84. This work also provide data about physical properties of this galaxies as metallicity, star formation rate relation with mass and other properties. We also study the efects of selection criteria in metallicity results publish in the literature at the moment.

Using DMPS satellite night images taken in 2000 we have estimated the saturated surface in many European countries. The objective of this study is to compare the illumination conditions and its effects in light pollution. We have measured the surface of the saturated zone. We compare this parameter with the ratio of population density of the country. To avoid bias, normalize by dividing the area built in each country prior to the comparison. In this way only takes into account the surface that really makes sense to illuminate. We have gathered the official data on energy consumption in public lighting in Spain. After plotting the evolution along the years we found changes in the way this value is obtained in different provinces of Spain and we made a more pessimistic prediction for the present energy consumption.

Se presenta el estado actual de la difusión de la astronomía española en Internet y algunos consejos sobre su difusión.

ASAAF-UCM (ASociación de Astrónomos AFicionados de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid), an amateur association with both, graduated and undergraduate students of Physics, is involved in PARTNeR. As a result of this work and several runs of obsevation, we present measurements related to the flux variations of SGR-A* at cm-wavelengths. The global educational research project of ASAAF-UCM also includes the development of a GPL sowtware to reduce and analyze the data.

Conjunto de actividades formativas realizadas desde la Asociación ASAAF-UCM con el radiotelescopio del Proyecto PARTNeR, entre las que se incluyen: Elaboración de un proyecto científico propio, creación de un software propio de reducción automática de datos, presentación de resultados en congresos temáticos y revistas de divulgación.
