[ Objective] The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of light duration on the morphology and structure of ovary and fallopian tube and the main reproductive hormones of Guizhouhuang chickens. [ Method] The serum levels of follicle stimulating hormone ( FSH), luteinizing hormone ( LH) and estradiol ( E2) in Guizhouhuang chickens were measured at 140, 200 and 480 days of age, respec tively, under the condition of Half-housed breeding ( house feeding + sports field) and with natural light as the control, and the develop ment of main reproductive organs and the histological characteristics of reproductive organs were observed. [Result] At 140 days of age, ovi duct weight under increased light treatment was significantly lower than that under natural light treatment, and the maximum follicle diameter under light treatment was significantly higher than that under natural light treatment. There were no significant differences in ovary weight, o viduct length, the number of large yellow follicles and the number of small yellow follicles between the two treatments. At 200 days of age, there was no significant difference in ovarian weight and maximum follicle diameter between the two treatments. All the other indexes were significantly higher under increased light than those under natural light. At 480 days of age, the tubal weight of increased light treatment was significantly lower than that of natural light treatment, but there were no significant differences among other indexes. Increasing light had no significant effect on the ovarian tissue structure. The contents of FSH and E2 under increased light treatment were significantly higher than those under natural light treatment at 140 and 200 days of age. FSH, LH and E2 at 480 days of age had no significant differences among treatments. [Conclusion] Appropriate increase of light can improve the production performance of Guizhouhuang chicken.
