This paper presents a cost-effectiveness comparison of coupler designs for wireless power transfer (WPT), meant for electric vehicle (EV) dynamic charging. The design comparison of three common types of couplers is first based on the raw material cost, output power, transfer efficiency, tolerance of horizontal offset, and flux density. Then, the optimal cost-effectiveness combination is selected for EV dynamic charging. The corresponding performances of the proposed charging system are compared and analyzed by both simulation and experimentation. This paper presents a hybrid excited doubly salient (HEDS) machine, which can be used as the integrated starter-generator (ISG) for modern automobile and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). The key of the proposed machine is to incorporate both direct current (dc) field windings and permanent magnets (PMs) in the stator, hence, offering a compact arrangement of hybrid field excitations, while the rotor is simply composed of salient poles without windings or PMs. The air-gap flux can be strengthened or weakened with a reasonable dc field current so that the electromagnetic torque and induced electromotive force (EMF) can be effectively regulated. To predict the electromagnetic performances of the machine more accurately, a new transient cosimulation approach considering indirect field-circuit coupling is proposed. Experimental results on a prototype machine have been given to verify the technique. The method is not only more efficient and flexible, but also more accurate and stable, which can also be used in analyzing other electric machine and drive systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a new outer-rotor stator-doubly-fed doubly-salient permanent-magnet (SDF-DSPM) machine, which can be used as the integrated starter-generator for modern automobiles and mild hybrid electric vehicles. The key of the proposed machine is to incorporate both dc field windings and PMs in the inner stator, hence, offering a compact arrangement of hybrid field excitations. While armature windings are located in salient poles of the outer stator, the outer rotor is simply composed of salient poles without windings or PMs. In addition, an air bridge is purposely created in shunt with each PM in the inner stator, hence, providing an amplification effect for flux regulation. With this idea, the air-gap flux can be strengthened or weakened with a small dc field current so that the electromagnetic torque and induced electromotive force (EMF) can be effectively regulated. The newly designed SDF-DSPM machine is analyzed by using both the magnetic circuit model and finite element method, and assessed by performance simulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
