We compared the total number of words generated, the raw number of clusters and switches and mean cluster size in verbal fluency with semantic and phonemic criteria, and the performance between these tasks in each group. We analyzed the correlations between these variables and sociodemographic data. The sample consisted of 43 adults after stroke (11 with right cerebral hemisphere lesion - RHL; 32 with left cerebral hemisphere lesion - LHL) and 40 neurologically healthy adults. The main results indicated better performance on the total number of words and the raw number of clusters and switches in both verbal fluency tasks of healthy adults compared to LHL, but similar performance to RHL. In the task with phonemic criteria, the RHL group had a higher total number of words, number of clusters and switches than LHE. The groups presented a better performance in semantic verbal fluency than phonemic verbal fluency. Qualitative analysis identified cognitive processes underlying the total number of words evoked in verbal fluency after unilateral stroke. Keywords: Stroke, verbal fluency, executive functions, neuropsychological assessment.

The objective was to provide evidences of construct validity of the NEUPSILIN Brief Neuropsychological Assessment Instrument. The participants were 1017 healthy Brazilian, 67.1% women, 12 to 90 years old (M = 36.72; SD = 23.90) and 1-27 years of education (M = 8.68; SD = 4.02). Participants answered the 32 tasks of NEUPSILIN that assess orientation, attention, perception, memory, arithmetic abilities, language, praxis and executive functions. Theoretical-hypothetical, adjusted and alternative models of language, memory, praxis and executive functions were analyzed with Generalized Least Square method of AMOS (18.0). The adjusted models of language and praxis, the hypothetical-theoretical model of verbal memory and the alternative model of executive functions showed better adjustment indicators than other models. Results indicate the validity of measures of language, memory, praxis and executive functions of NEUPSILIN.

APHASIA , *CRONBACH'S alpha , *STROKE , *BRAIN damage , *TEST validity , *NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL tests , *PSYCHOMETRICS , *LANGUAGE disorders , *REFERENCE values - Abstract
The preliminary psychometric properties of the Brief Neuropsycholinguistic Assessment Instrument NEUPSILIN-L were analyzed in patients with and without expressive aphasia. This study included 94 adults: 11 with brain damage in the right hemisphere (RHD), 38 with brain damage in the left hemisphere (LHD), and 45 neurologically healthy. The group with LHD presented lower scores than the other groups, mainly in the language tasks, as well as the sample with aphasia. Clinical groups performed better on the NEUPSILIN-L in tasks with motor response options, about oral responses. The NEUPSILIN-L items had a Cronbach's alpha of 0.931 and McDonald omega of 0.950. The results of the groups in the NEUPSILIN-L showed that the instrument presents evidence of validity based on the relationship with criteria and high internal consistency. Future studies intend to expand the evidence of validity of the instrument and provide normative data for the Brazilian population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
