The article offers information about the Centers of Excellence Awards in the U.S. The Business and Finance (B&F) Division of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) launched a group of awards collectively known as the SLA Business and Finance Division Centers of Excellence Awards geared in establishing quality as a priority for the successful management and delivery of business information and for disseminating best practices in business information community. These are given to institutions who are recognized for their excellence as information centers and management.

The article focuses on the announcement of Business & Finance Division of the Special Association on the winner of the sixth annual Centers of Excellence Awards at the SLA Annual Conference. In July 1992, the Local Activities Board (LAB) of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) established the Professional Chapter Excellence Program to encourage quality and recognize the accomplishments of its professional chapters, i.e., its general interest and local SIG chapters. Quality is demonstrated by the service a chapter provides to its community and its members and by its contribution to the missions of ACM. There are two types of award, Chapter Excellence Awards and Innovative Idea of the Year Awards. To date, there have been five Quality Chapters and two Chapters of Excellence. In order to be eligible for application to the program, a professional chapter must be chartered by the LAB, have no less than three ACM members, have elected officers who are voting members of ACM and have filed the chapter activity and financial reports with ACM Headquarters by August 30th of the award year. This year, the official award year is October 1, 1994 through June 30th, 1995. Reports must have been filed by August, 1994.

Microsoft's Corp. Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 features tighter integration with Microsoft applications, and nowhere is this more apparent than when using Microsoft Office OneNote 2003. Microsoft plans to introduce OneNote Service Pack 1 shortly after the release of Microsoft Office 2003 SP1, expected this summer. "eWEEK Labs" reviewed a preview release of OneNote 2003 SP1, which is available for download at www.microsoft. com/office/onenote/sp1. OneNote 2003, which won an "eWEEK" Excellence Award in the Personal Productivity category this year combines the familiarity of handwriting with the efficacy of digital media. The application, which must be purchased separately from Microsoft Office, allows users to capture, organize and share notes on computers. "eWEEK Labs" has installed the OneNote SP1 preview on an M275 Tablet PC from Gateway Inc. after loading the Office 2003 suite. OneNote automatically recognized the hardware as a Tablet PC and highlight text and objects using the tablet's pen.
