Aim: The present study was conducted with an aim to assess the awareness about existence of dental stem cells among dental professionals., Materials and Methods: A total sample size of 100 dental professionals in the age group of 22-32 years, comprising of 28 interns, 46 postgraduate students, and 26 senior residents from various specialties was selected. A self-administered, hand-delivered, 10-point questionnaire was used to assess the awareness, knowledge, and attitude of dental professionals towards dental stem cells. Results were documented and statistically analyzed using chi-square test., Results: A total of 72% dental professionals were aware about dental stem cells with dental curriculum books being the main source of information. Note that 81% of positive respondents were aware about the different types and a total of 28% were aware about the procedure to procure dental stem cells. Only 33.3% of positive respondents were aware about existence of dental stem cell banks in India., Conclusion: A high level of awareness about dental stem cells and its applications was noted during the course of this study. A significant association of age and type of practice with awareness of dental stem cells and knowledge regarding their use in developing nondental tissues was observed. Background: Removal of the microbial organisms from the root canal system is a prerequisite for the successful outcome of any root canal treatment. Use of an effective intracanal medicament will assist in the disinfection of the root canal system. Intracanal medicaments have been used to disinfect root canals between appointments and reduce interappointment pain., Materials and Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and awareness about the principal choice of intracanal medicaments among general dental practitioners and nonendodontic specialists. The questionnaire consisted of 11 questions related to intracanal medicaments in Endodontics. It was distributed to 75 general dental practitioners and 75 other specialists (nonendodontists)., Results: In the present study, the authors observed that the knowledge level among the study participants was moderately satisfying. However, the need for more education of the dentists with regard to the intracanal medicaments was perceived., Discussion: Correct knowledge of intracanal medicaments would help the practitioners to decide the apt material of choice as intracanal medicaments in different clinical situations., Conclusion: The present study highlighted the need for more continuing dental education programs with active participation of general practitioners and nonendodontic specialists to update themselves., Competing Interests: None

Introduction: Physiotherapy as a profession has come a long way over the years. As the treatment of injuries and illness has developed over the decades, the practice has evolved and grown from general forms of physical therapies to specialized physiotherapy services in healthcare settings. Despite the recognition and advances gained worldwide in physiotherapy, yet there is lack of research study in Nepal to evaluate the awareness of physiotherapy among clinical doctors of Nepal. Objective of this study is to investigate the awareness of physiotherapy among clinical doctors working in various hospitals of Nepal. Methods: A cross sectional survey was conducted among the clinical doctors working in various hospitals of Nepal. A questionnaire was randomly distributed among 200 doctors. It comprised of 13 questions related to physiotherapy awareness. Data were collected and statistically analyzed. Results: Among 115 respondents, 98.3% were aware of physiotherapy and 87.8 % of the doctors reported to have physiotherapy services in their hospital. Referral to physiotherapy was found to be 94.8 %. With respect to referrals to physiotherapy in preoperative cases, it was found that 63% of the clinical doctors agreed to refer their patients to physiotherapists. The study also found that 93% of the clinical doctors agreed to refer their patients to physiotherapy post-operatively. Referrals to ICU were agreed by 88% of the doctors involved in this study. Among the clinical doctors surveyed physiotherapy in orthopedic conditions has the maximum awareness (94.8%). The study found that a very small percent of the clinical doctors knew about physiotherapy education in Nepal (39.1%) and Nepal Physiotherapy Association (NEPTA) (33%). Conclusions: The study concluded that the clinical doctors had a good awareness about physiotherapy profession. But awareness needs to be accelerated in terms of referrals and specialized services provided by the physiotherapists for potential benefits of the patients. Physiotherapists as a part of the health care team plays an essential role in reducing the hospital stay, quick recovery and in rehabilitation for a better quality life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
