Abstract

Giriş: Bu çalışmanın amacı geriatrik bireylerde kinezyofobi ile denge, düşme korkusu ve mobilite arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Gereç-Yöntem: Çalışmaya 65-88 yaş arası 41 geriatrik birey dahil edildi. Bireylerin sosyo-demografik bilgileri ve mini mental test skorları kaydedildikten sonra kinezyofobi, denge, düşme korkusu ve mobilite düzeyleri anketler ile değerlendirildi. Kinezyofobi, Tampa Kinezyofobi Ölçeği (TKÖ); denge, Berg Denge Ölçeği (BDÖ); düşme korkusu, Tinetti Düşme Etkinlik Ölçeği (TDEÖ) ve mobilite düzeyleri Zamanlı Kalk Yürü Testi (ZKYT) ile belirlendi. Bulgular: Katılımcıların 33’ünde (%70.5) kinezyofobi varlığı tespit edildi. Değerlendirme sonucunda kinezyofobi ile düşme korkusu (p=0.001, r=0.514) ve mobilite (p=0.002, r=0.468) arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı, pozitif yönlü orta şiddette; kinezyofobi ile denge arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı, negatif yönlü yüksek şiddette ilişki saptanmıştır (p

Abstract

Kinesiophobia is defined as the fear of movement and activity resulting from a feeling of vulnerability to painful injury or re-injury. This study aimed to determine the effect of kinesiophobia on physical activity, balance, and fear of falling in patients with Parkinson's disease. The study, which was designed as a cross-sectional type, was conducted with 86 patients with Parkinson's disease (age 61.25 SD [9.72] years old) by face-to-face interviews with the patients. The Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia, International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form, Berg Balance Scale, Falls Efficacy Scale, Visual Analog Scale – Fear of Falling, Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale – motor score, and the Hoehn and Yahr scale were used to evaluate the patients. Patients with Parkinson's disease who had high levels of kinesiophobia had lower levels of physical activity, worse balance, and higher disease severity and fear of falling. A correlation was found between the Tampa Scale score and physical activity, balance, fear of falling, falls efficacy, and disease motor score (p <.001; r = −0.38, −0.54, 0.67, 0.57, and 0.37, respectively). According to multiple linear regression analysis, kinesiophobia explained the dependent variables to varying degrees ranging from 13% to 44% (p <.001). Patients with Parkinson's disease may have kinesiophobia. Rehabilitation programs to support functional capacity for these patients should be developed considering the presence of kinesiophobia. © 2022 Archives of Health Science and Research. All rights reserved.Objective: The visual system is one of the 3 most essential systems for maintaining balance. However, the evaluation of refractive error such as myopia has always been neglected in balance studies. This paper aimed to examine the differences in balance and proprioception measurements between individuals with myopia and their healthy peers. Materials and Methods: Fifteen subjects with myopic eye defects and 15 healthy peers were included in the study. Balance evaluations consisted of the tandem walk test (TWT), the limits of stability test (LOS), and the modified clinical test of sensory interaction and balance (mCTSIB). These evaluations were performed with a computer-aided NeuroCom Balance Master device. Additionally, proprioception was measured with the Biodex System 3 isokinetic dynamometer. Results: Individuals with myopic defects had higher step widths (P= .001), and end-sway (P = .007) than their healthy peers. The reaction time, maximum excursion, and directional control values of the myopia group were lower than those of the healthy peer group, but there was no difference between the results of the LOS and the m-CTSIB tests (P > .05 for all parameters). Moreover, the 60° proprioception evaluation deviation was higher in the myopia group for both dominant and non-dominant extremities. However, this deviation was not statistically significant (P > .05). Conclusion: This study showed some differences in the measured values for balance in myopic individuals compared to healthy peers. We think that the evaluation of the participants with the orthoses they use will provide more accurate results from the measurements in future studies evaluating balance and proprioception.
