第45次南極地域観測隊行動の一環として、南極昭和基地においてクライオジェニックサンプラー回収気球実験が実施された。実験は2回実施され、2003年12月26日と2004年1月5日にそれぞれ気球が放球され、高度10kmから30kmにおいて成層圏の大気サンプルを採取することに成功した。大気サンプルの採取が終了した後、観測器はパラシュートによって海氷上に着地し、無事にヘリコプターで回収された。日本に持帰った後にサンプル容器の内圧を計測したところ、採取された成層圏大気サンプルの量は、9〜18L(STP)であり、さまざまな大気成分の分析をするために十分な量のサンプルが得られていた。今後進められる分析の結果を、1998年の実験結果と比較することにより、南極成層圏における大気成分の長期変動などが明らかにされるものと期待される。, Balloon-borne cryogenic samplers were launched from Japanese Antarctic Station, Syowa, on December 26, 2003 and January 5, 2004 by the 45th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition team. Stratospheric air samples were successfully collected at 11 different altitudes from 10 to 30 km. After air sampling, the cryogenic samplers descended using a parachute and landed safely on sea ice near the station, and then they were recovered by using a helicopter. By measuring the pressures of air samples collected, it was found that their amounts were 9 to 18 L(sub STP), which are enough to analyze many atmospheric components.
