Objective: The dimensional approach to psychopathy describes psychopathy dimensions in children as a continuum of different levels of callous-unemotional, narcissism and impulsivity traits. The predictive utility of psychopathy dimensions with respect to negative long-term outcomes in clinical samples remains poorly explored. We addressed this issue in a sample of children with Disruptive Behavior Diagnosis. Method: One-hundred and twenty children (8-9 years old) with a diagnosis of Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) or Conduct Disorder (CD), followed up into adolescence (14-15 years old). The Antisocial Process Screening Device (combined self- and parent-report version) was used to evaluate psychopathy dimensions in the current sample. Results: Callous-unemotional traits uniquely predicted the levels CD symptoms in adolescence; callous-unemotional and narcissistic traits independently predicted substance use in adolescence. Conclusions: In children with ODD or CD diagnosis, the assessment of different dimensions of psychopathic traits may help to predict different long-term outcomes. These findings could help clinicians to identify timely preventative interventions for children with ODD or CD diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
