This study presents an analysis of the use of bibliographic references by individual scientists in three different research areas. The number and type of references that scientists include in their papers are analyzed, the relationship between the number of references and different impact-based indicators is studied from a multivariable perspective, and the referencing patterns of scientists are related to individual factors such as their age and scientific performance. Our results show inter-area differences in the number, type, and age of references. Within each area, the number of references per document increases with journal impact factor and paper length. Top-performance scientists use in their papers a higher number of references, which are more recent and more frequently covered by the Web of Science. Veteran researchers tend to rely more on older literature and non- Web of Science sources. The longer reference lists of top scientists can be explained by their tendency to publish in high impact factor journals, with stricter reference and reviewing requirements. Long reference lists suggest a broader knowledge on the current literature in a field, which is important to become a top scientist. From the perspective of the 'handicap principle theory,' the sustained use of a high number of references in an author's oeuvre is a costly behavior that may indicate a serious, comprehensive, and solid research capacity, but that only the best researchers can afford. This study analyses the thematic and conceptual structure of the Spanish scientific production published in Emerging Sources Citation Index (Web of Science) journals. In this way, the aim is to identify the closest links between concepts and terms based on the co-occurrence of keywords used by the authors of the papers analysed, and also to point out the theoretical foundations that exist in the discipline through the co-citation relationships of articles in the bibliography of the documents in the sample. Finally, these results were compared with those obtained from the analysis of Spanish scientific production in Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). To achieve these objectives, a network analysis of the co-occurrence of keywords and co-citation of references in articles published in Communication journals between 2015 and 2021 in ESCI (N = 3,559) and SSCI (N = 1,738) with at least one author linked to a Spanish institution was carried out. The results point to similar structural cohesion values and to a thematic and methodological similarity between both sets observed. There is a marked tendency towards quantitative studies on new technologies. While in SSCI there is an almost absolute dominance of Journalism studies, in ESCI there is a greater diversity of other disciplines such as Audiovisual Communication or Advertising. This investigation is centered on two objectives: one is to determine whether in Tomelloso, which from 1950 onwards was characterised as being a city linked to literature, this activity is still relevant in the distribution of its spare time. The second objective is to verify whether this city is still a place from which new writers regularly emerge. In addition, this paper aims to provide a sociological explanation of this social phenomenon. Methodological triangulation was used, with qualitative exploratory interviews, surveys, and the management of the bibliography and documentary archives. It is confirmed that there is still a major link to literature in Tomelloso and that writers are still continuously emerging. The phenomenon is explained by relating it to the theories of symbolic interactionism and Robert K. Merton's concept of self-fulfilling prophecies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spain is one of the main truffle-producing countries in the world, and truffle (Tuber spp.) cultivation in this country is currently undergoing a considerable surge. This work describes the Spanish research history and we list the Spanish references. Until 1993 the Spanish bibliography on truffles was very limited (28 references). However in the last 12 years, Spanish research has produced 200 references on truffles, developed in 13 centres (6 doctoral theses, 67 papers in international scientific congresses, 49 papers in Spanish scientific congresses, 7 documents on websites, 51 published Spanish papers, 12 published articles, and 8 papers submitted to international journals listed in the Journal Citation Report). Moreover, a comparative analysis of truffle research production in Spain, France, and Italy has shown how truffle research in Spain is now on a par with that of France, although it is still lower than Italian truffle research. This article analyzes the role of women in communication research. It does so by studying their presence/absence in the bibliographies of the syllabus of 108 theoretical courses of journalism degrees taught in 36 colleges in Spain during the 2020-2021 academic year. The work investigates the roles and presences of women in the field of communication, measuring the degree of visibility of women scientists and their contributions in a statistical and comparative way to that of male researchers, quantifying the citation patterns according to the gender of the authors. The data were analyzed with the free statistical software R (version 4.0.3) and a descriptive and inferential analysis was performed. The main results regarding the citation patterns of the research are: 1) an under-citation of publications written by female scientists; 2) an over-citation of publications by male researchers; and 3) the nonexistence of gender homophily (researchers do not tend to cite more authors of their same gender), since female authors are little cited and this low visibility is due to both female and male faculty members. The most referenced author is Elizabeth Noelle-Neumann, one of the few "classics" present, indicating a Matilda effect regarding the historical erasure of female contributions. In conclusion, the paper argues for the need to transform not only citation practices, but an entire scientific culture that denies women as a source of reference and authority from the early stages of university education. Patent citations added by examiners are often used as indicators of technological impact and knowledge flows, despite various criticisms. In this study we analyze the distribution of examiner patent citations according to patent characteristics in order to show their limitations. According to our findings, the number of applicant citations included is dependent on the science-base of the technology. However, this gets masked by the citations added by patent examiners, who smooth the distribution of citations across technology classes and include the same number of citations regardless of whether applicants cite any references. Some researchers have called for the use of applicant rather than examiner patent citations as indicators of technology impact and knowledge flows. Nevertheless, we show that the former also have important caveats, because applicants may increase the number of citations in international patents and when there are coapplicants. Dyschiriini (Coleoptera Carabidae) is a tribe of ground beetles that has never received specific attention in the Ibero-Balearic region, resulting in a general lack of taxonomic, ecological and distributional knowledge. In this work, we revise the available bibliography and published data, analyse the origins of the study on each taxon and its progression through time (with emphasis on chorology) and assess the precise known distribution of all the species in the territory. A total of 117 works treating Ibero-Balearic Dyschiriini was found, published from 1825 to 2021. Among them, the most common works appeared as local journal articles, and the most common scope was faunistic (including catalogues and/or collection material lists). The accumulation in time of published Dyschiriini records has been closely related to historical events that both obstructed and promoted the scientific activity in Spain and Portugal. A tendency of publishing repeated records was noticed in the catalogues edited in the last decades. Precise distribution maps were made combining bibliographic records with occurrences available in GBIF. Distribution patterns could be identified in the case of some species, whereas others remain poorly recorded in the study area. In 1915 the Women’s Group of the Residencia de Estudiantes, better known as Residencia de Señoritas, opened its doors in Madrid, dependent on the Board for Expansion of Studies and Scientific Research. The Residencia de Señoritas, located in several buildings in Fortuny Street, is presented as a place of accommodation for women who came to Madrid to study in the multiple centers of the capital or to expand their culture and as a means of intellectual and moral formation. The success of the Residencia, run by María de Maeztu, is immediate, and since 1919 it establishes contacts with the International Institute for Girls in Spain, an American missionary institution dedicated to the education of women. This relationship will give rise to an interesting flow of exchanges which draws a model of women student relations between Spain and the United States profoundly original and unparalleled. The aim of this contribution is to show the pioneering exchanges of university women between the Residencia de Señoritas and the most relevant women colleges of United States. In the study it has been used primary documentation of the Archive of the Residencia de Señoritas, deposited in the Ortega y Gasset-Marañón Foundation, hemerographic sources and complementary bibliography. The main conclusion is that since 1919 there was an innovative policy of exchanges of university women from Spain to United States and vice versa, very enriching intellectually and humanly, which will not be repeated until the most advanced post Francoism. The aim of this research was to identify the impact factor of three iberian-american journals on several spanish journals, through a bibliometric study. The study considered 20 journals that were multidisciplinary or represented any area of Psychology. The chosen journals were edited in Spanish, registered in Spain or in the Journal of Citation Reports, are currently edited and started their publication at least in 2001, the last issue of the year was edited before the deadline, had ISSN, were edited in paper and were available at a established date. The data showed the high impact of IJCHP and an absence of reciprocal interactions among the chosen journals. The literature on financial sustainability is scattered in such a way that a synthesis is indispensable. The present study on an annotated bibliography of financial sustainability seeks to fill this particular gap by presenting a collation of published literature in the sphere. The sectorial analysis depicted that ability to cover the costs from its own resources and ability to pay debt were the key dimensions to measure financial sustainability. The majority of the studies were found in the public sector covering local governments and central governments particularly in such European countries as Spain, Italy and England. Earning enough resources, asset sustainability and the ability to repay obligations are the three dimensions to assess financial sustainability. The study also pointed out the key research areas, variables and analytical tools among other trends in the literature. Teaching students how to conduct bibliographic searches in health sciences' databases is essential training. One of the challenges librarians face is how to motivate students during classroom learning. In this article, two hospital libraries, in Spain, used Escape rooms as a method of bringing creativity, teamwork, communication and critical thinking into bibliographic search instruction. Escape rooms are a series of puzzles that must be solved to exit the game. This article explores the methods used for integrating escape rooms into training programmes and evaluates the results. Escape Rooms are a useful tool that can be integrated into residents' training to support their instruction on bibliographic searches. This kind of learning stablishes competences like logical thinking and deductive approaching. These aspects aid participants to make their own decision and to develop social and intellectual skills. The authors report on the existence of three hitherto unknown copies of Hebrew incunabula printed in Soncino, provide a full description and discussion of a copy of an incunabulum from Leiria, and fragments of an incunabulum from Híjar, which they had previously identified, and offer an updated list of all the Hebrew incunabula extant in Spanish libraries and archives. The study of life and living organisms and the way in which these interact and organize to form social communities have been central to my career. I have been fascinated by biology, neurology, and neuropathology, but also by history, sociology, and art. Certain current historical, political, and social events, some occurring proximally but others affecting people in apparently distant places, have had an impact on me. Epicurus, Seneca, and Camus shared their philosophical positions which I learned from. Many scientists from various disciplines have been exciting sources of knowledge as well. I have created a world of hypothesis and experiments but I have also got carried away by serendipity following unexpected observations. It has not been an easy path; errors and wanderings are not uncommon, and opponents close to home much more abundant than one might imagine. Ambition, imagination, resilience, and endurance have been useful in moving ahead in response to setbacks. In the end, I have enjoyed my dedication to science and I am grateful to have glimpsed beauty in it. These are brief memories of a Spanish neuropathologist born and raised in Barcelona, EU. Now that the European Space for Higher Education has granted full presence to social work in Spanish Universities, it becomes necessary to develop a series of strategies that allow its consolidation and equivalence with other Social Sciences. Although scientific publications count among the most adequate ways to achieve this purpose, there is no Spanish journal of social work in the main international databases. This article analyses the Spanish journals of social work published in Spain.
