Oberea acuta Gressitt, 1951 is redescribed, the diagnosis of O. notata Pic, 1936 and O. bisbipunctata Pic, 1916 were provided based on examination of type material and additional specimens. Illustrations of habitus and genitalia are provided, and a key to separate these three species is presented. Their distribution is critically examined, notably that of O. bisbipunctata, whose previous records in China are invalidated. Oberea shimomurai Kurihara & N. Ohbayashi, 2007 is considered a junior synonym of Oberea notata Pic, 1936.

Three new species of Megarthrus Curtis from mainland China belonging to the M. calcaratus species complex are described: M. bajie Liu & Cuccodoro sp. nov., M. wujing Liu & Cuccodoro sp. nov., and M. wukong Liu & Cuccodoro sp. nov.. Also pertaining to this lineage of Megarthus, the East Palaearctic M. zerchei Cuccodoro & Löbl is reported here to occur in China (new country record). These four species are diagnosed, illustrated, and keyed. Their distribution in mainland China is mapped, and their affinities are briefly discussed.

A new species, Megarthrus heise Zhang, Cuccodoro, Chen & Liu sp. nov., resembling Megarthrus nitidulus Kraatz, 1857 is described from Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi provinces and Beijing in China. The record of M. nitidulus in China was apparently based on a misidentification, and the species is thus removed from the list of Chinese Megarthrus. Phoresy of acari and teratological modification of the abdomen are also reported for the first time in the genus.

Megarthrus budai Liu and Cuccodoro sp. nov. from Sichuan province in China is described. It is the first record of the genus from Mount Emei, a temperate biodiversity-rich mountain to which this new species seems to be endemic. Megarthrus basicornis Fauvel, 1904, known so far only from India and Nepal, is reported from China for the first time.These two species have many features found mainly in members of the predominantly Holarctic and African M. depressus supergroup of species.

The monospecific clavigerite genus Archiclaviger Heller, 1936 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae), previously only known from Java, is reported to occur in China. A new species, A. gaofani sp. nov., was collected in nests of Nylanderia Emery, 1906 ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in Jiangsu Province, and is described here. The new species can be separated from A. overbecki Heller, 1936 by different proportions of the antennomeres, and much sparser setae at the apex of the elytra and base of the abdomen. A revised diagnosis of Archiclaviger is provided, and a lectotype is designated for A. overbecki.

Megarthrus chujiao Liu and Cuccodoro sp. nov., from Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in China is described and illustrated. It is the third record of the genus in the Hengduan Mountains, and the first endemic Megarthrus species from this temperate biodiversity hotspot. Megarthrus chujiao strongly resembles M. antennalis Cameron, 1941, from Nepal and North India, with which they form a new complex of species—the M. antennalis-complex within the predominantly Holactic and African M. depressus-supergroup of species.

The Achilia grandiceps, A. valdiviensis, and A. bicornis species groups sensu Jeannel (1962) of the species-rich genus AchiliaReitter, 1890 are revised. Of the eigth taxa placed in these three groups of species, two subspecies, i.e. A. grandiceps grandicepsJeannel, 1962 and A. grandiceps delamareiJeannel, 1962 are raised to species level – A. grandicepsJeannel, 1962stat. nov. and A. delamareiJeannel, 1962stat. nov. – while three names are placed in synonymy – A. alticolaJeannel, 1962 = A. grandicepsJeannel, 1962syn. nov., A. kuscheliJeannel, 1962 = A. valdiviensis (Blanchard, 1851) syn. nov., and A. chilotidesNewton, 2017 = A. excisa (Schaufuss, 1880) syn. nov. – The remaining five species are redescribed, and the new species A. franzin. sp., A. jeannelin. sp., and A. elguetain. sp., attributed to the A. grandiceps group, are described. A new synonymy A. simpsoniFranz, 1996 = A. bicornisJeannel, 1962syn. nov. is also established, and the lectotypes of A. delamareiJeannel, 1962 and A. valdiviensis (Blanchard, 1851) are designated. For all these species their distribution is detailed and mapped, and habitat/collecting data are summarized.

The only available specimen of Iniocyphus iheringi Raffray, 1912, type species of the type genus of the tribe Iniocyphini Inyocyphus Raffray, 1912, is redescribed and illustrated in detail. The original spelling of the species epithet iheringi is reinstated over jheringi, which was an incorrect subsequent spelling. The specimen examined is designate as the lectotype.

A new fossil genus and species of the subfamily Pselaphinae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae), †Cretobrachygluta laurasiensis gen. et sp. nov., is described based on an exquisitely preserved specimen in mid-Cretaceous amber from northern Myanmar. The new genus possesses a series of characters diagnostic of the extant Brachyglutini: Brachyglutina (supertribe Goniaceritae), but it also exhibits several plesiomorphic traits that suggest a basal position within the tribe. The discovery of the first and oldest brachyglutine beetle in Burmese amber considerably improves our understanding of the early morphological evolution of Pselaphinae during the Mesozoic Era.

In the current work, the following taxonomic changes of genus Oberea Dejean, 1835 are proposed: Oberea flavescens Breuning, 1947, rest. stat.; Oberea toi Gressitt, 1939, rest. stat.; Oberea sylvia Pascoe, 1858, rest. stat.; Oberea taiwana Matsushita, 1933 = Oberea taihokuensis Breuning, 1962, syn. n.; Oberea sumbana Breuning, 1961 = Oberea antennata Franz, 1972, syn. n.; Oberea brevithorax Gressitt, 1939 is newly recorded from Vietnam.

Oberea fuscipennis (Chevrolat, 1852) species group is revised based on morphology and DNA barcode data. Oberea diversipes Pic, 1919 and O. infratestacea Pic, 1936 are restored from synonymy. The following two new synonymies are proposed: Oberea fuscipennis ssp. fairmairei Breuning, 1962 = Oberea diversipes Pic, 1919; and Oberea hanoiensis Pic, 1923 = O . fuscipennis (Chevrolat, 1852)

The types of the species of theGoniacerinegenus of PselaphinaeParagoniastesComellini are revised.Paragoniastes parkiComellini, 1979, is synonymized withP. besuchetiComellini, 1979 (P. besucheti=P. parkisyn. nov.), andP. uesciCuccodoro & Kurbatov sp. nov. is described from the Brazilian state of Bahia. These taxa are described, illustrated, and keyed. Additional characters pertaining to the genus are given.

A taxonomic study ofMegarthrusCurtis in Korea is presented. The genus is represented in Korea by 10 species includingM. coreanusKim and Cuccodorosp. nov.Megarthrus corticalisSharp,M. fennicusLahtinen,M. incubiferCuccodoro,M. japonicusSharp,M. montanusSawada,M. sawadaiCuccodoro, andM. zercheiCuccodoro and Löbl are reported from Korea for the first time. A diagnosis of the genus and a key to the Korean species are provided. The new species is diagnosed, described, and illustrated and the other species are diagnosed and illustrated. Species distributions are presented, and the effect of these Korean findings on the level of endemism of theMegarthrusfauna of Japan and Far East Russia is discussed.

The genus Megarthrus Curtis 1829 is represented in New Guinea, New Caledonia and Fiji by 10 species, eight of which are described as new: M. alienus, M. anggiensis, M. baliemensis, M. fijianus, M. gressitti, M. kuscheli, M. peckorum and M. riedeli. A key to the species is provided, their diagnostic characters are illustrated, and the data available on natural history and ecology are presented. Based on a phylogenetic analysis two monophyletic species groups are recognised: one is endemic to New Guinea (auricola-group), the second to New Caledonia and Fiji (alienus-group). The alienus-group is likely Oriental in origin, while the auricola-group may be derived from a circumtropical lineage containing Neotropical and Afrotropical Megarthrus.

Megarthrus from the Palaearctic region, Japan excluded, are revised to include 23 species, four of which are described as new: M. uhligi sp. n., M. wollastoni sp. n., M. zekorum sp. n. and M. zerchei sp. n.. Megarthrus franzi Scheerpeltz is a junior subjective synonym of M. stercorarius Mulsant and Rey. Megarthrus bellevoyei Saulcy replaces M. affinis Miller which is a junior primary homonym of M. affinis Stephens. Megarthrus depressus (Paykull) has been misinterpreted. Subsequent authors referred to this species as M. sinuatocollis (Lacordaire), while they referred to M. prosseni Schatzmayr as M. depressus (Paykull). A neotype is designated for M. denticollis (Beck), and lectotypes are designated for M. bellevoyei Saulcy, M. chobauti Fauvel, M. dentipes Bernhauer, M. depressus (Paykull), M. fennicus Lahtinen, M. franzi Scheerpeltz, M. nigrinus Sahlberg, M. nitiduloides (Lacordaire), M. nitidulus Kraatz, M. prosseni Schatzmayr, M. rufescens Stephens, M. sahlbergi Munster, M. serrula Wollaston, M. stercora...

The Papuan rove-beetles Megarthrus auricola sp. nov. and Megarthrus primus sp. nov. are described. Records of these species extend the known distributional range of the genus to the south beyond Wallace's line. Observations were made on M. auricola which appeared to load water on to the dorsum. Complex morphological structures are involved which are briefly described. Subsequently, this behaviour was also observed in five other species of Proteininae and one of Omaliinae.

A list of 153 infrasubspecific and therefore unavailable names originally introduced in Oberea Dejean, 1935, is given. All were so far considered by previous authors to have been made available by Breuning in his 1960’s global key of the genus. Two of them ( Oberea maculithorax v. pulla Matsushita, 1933 and Oberea suturalis v. flaveola Breuning 1960) refer to taxa in Obereopsis Chevrolat, 1855; and Leuconitocris Breuning, 1950, respectively.

The Sumatran genus Neodeuterus is revised, and the two included species are synonymized (i.e., N. admirandus = N. alter syn. n.). In addition, Borneodeuterus gen. n. is erected to accommodate B. sannio sp. n. from Borneo.

The taxonomy of the genus Ochicanthon Vaz-de-Mello of the Indian subcontinent is revised and an identification key to the species is provided. The number of Ochicanthon species from the region is increased to 15, eight of which are new: O. besucheti Cuccodoro sp. nov., O. ceylonicus Cuccodoro sp. nov., O. devagiriensis Sabu & Latha sp. nov., O. ernei Cuccodoro sp. nov., O. gauricola Cuccodoro sp. nov., O. murthyi Vinod & Sabu sp. nov., O. mussardi Cuccodoro sp. nov. and O. vazdemelloi Latha & Sabu sp. nov. Four species from the upper montane cloud forests are wingless, raising the number of wingless species of Ochicanthon to five. At least two groups of Ochicanthon exist in the Indian subcontinent: i) the O. tristis group with dorsum predominantly black-brown, with a distinct pattern of orange-yellow patches on the elytra and ii) the O. laetus group with dorsum entirely brown or black and with or without a faint orange patch. The distributions in the moist forests of the southwestern and northeastern regions of the Indian subcontinent, the possible origin of the genus in the Western Ghats in the southwest of the subcontinent and the flightlessness of montane species are discussed.

The Achilia cosmoptera species group sensu Jeannel (1962) of the species-rich genus Achilia Reitter, 1890 is revised. Of the twelve taxa placed so far in this informal group, four species – A. andinaFranz, 1996, A. maiopensisFranz, 1996, A. pseudangularisFranz, 1996, and A. quinteroiFranz, 1996 – belong to different genera and will be treated in forthcoming papers, and one name is placed in synonymy – A. piceaRaffray, 1904 = A. elfridaeRaffray, 1904syn. nov. The remaining seven species are redescribed, and three new species fitting the concept of the A. cosmoptera group are described – A. covidian. sp., A. pandemican. sp., and A. quarantenan. sp. The lectotypes of A. cosmoptera (Blanchard, 1851), A. blanchardiRaffray, 1904, A. elfridaeRaffray, 1904, A. bifronsJeannel, 1962, and A. nahuelbutaeFranz, 1996 are designated, and the new synonymies A. nahuelbutaeFranz, 1996 = A. angularisJeannel, 1962syn. nov., and A. caneloiFranz, 1996 = A. temporalisJeannel, 1962syn. nov. are also established. For all these species of the A. cosmoptera group their distribution is detailed and mapped, and habitat/collecting data are summarized.
